Jody Hedlund is an award-winning and bestselling historical fiction author. She won the 2011 Inspirational Reader's Choice Award, the 2011 Award of Excellence from the Colorado Romance Writers and was a finalist for Best Debut Novel in the 2011 ACFW Carol Awards. Currently she makes her home in central Michigan, with her husband and five busy children. She loves hearing from readers on Facebook and on her blog.
Michigan, 1880
Annalisa Werner’s hope for a fairy tale love is over. Her husband failed her in every way and now his death has left her with few options to save the family farm. She needs a plentiful harvest. That, and a husband to help bring it in. Someone strong, dependable. That’ll be enough. A marriage for love…that’s something she’s given up on.
So her father sends a letter to his brother in the Old Country, asking him to find Annalisa a groom.
Then a man appears: Carl Richards, from their home country of Germany and a former schoolteacher–or so he says. He’s looking for work and will serve on the farm until her husband arrives.
With time running out, she accepts his help, but there’s more to this man than he’s admitting. He’s also gentle, kind, charming–unlike any man she’s ever known. But even as Carl is shining light into the darkness of her heart, she knows her true groom may arrive any day.

A Noble Groom
4I really enjoyed the character of Carl. I feel he wasn’t your typical noble, who wanted to oppress others. That once he saw how these people were living he bonded with them, and wished to make things better for them. He was a down to earth, basic good guy.. exactly the type we love for our hero in a novel!

Not My Favorite Jody Hedlund Novel, But Still Good
4.5So, I thought the first half or so was good, but loved the last 100+ pages! There was also a great twist in A Noble Groom that, while I did surprisingly guess it early on and wasn’t shocked at all by the reveal, I’m sure some readers will not see it coming.

Truly an Enjoyable Book
10This is the first book I have read written by Jody and she is now on my list for favorite authors!!!
What a story of the troubles and hardships that these people had to go through when coming to America in the 1800’s. But they are determined to make what they have been giving and with much hard work and trust God all things are possible!!!
I immediately could understand their story because my mother is from Germany and still has an accent at the age of 82! I felt like I was part of their family and right there with them in the barn and in the fields struggling to survive. Annalisa, Carl, Gretchen, and Uri with others in this story seem to be part of my ancestry…this was an added blessing in reading their story.
When we pray and God answers us there are sometimes when we do question HIS answers. But, if we trust HIM all things work out for His Glory and His Good….

A Noble Groom by Judy Hedlund
5I absolutely love reading book from authors that deal with their passions or their personal history of either their lives or their families. Their love for their own story/heritage shine out of the pages and you can’t help but be grasped by the story. This is the case with Judy Hedlund’s new book, A Noble Groom. It is about her father’s legacy as the German father who worked hard and is still yielding the crops he has sown. How beautiful of a dedication of a book is that?!

Litfuse Group: \"A Noble Groom\" by Jody Hedlund Book Review
5I have now officially discovered a new historical fiction author (new to me, that is), and I cannot recommend her highly enough! I was enthralled with this book from the very beginning, and it just seems that I read this book so fast. So much happened, and I connected with this story in the way I like to connect with historical fiction. Indeed Jody Hedlund is the kind of author that truly makes me love historical fiction. The story is well-researched, and even though liberties are taken, she can back up her story with evidence.

5I really like mail order brides, but this is the first book I’ve read that has a mail order husband and I loved it! The characters are uniquely created and develop well as the story unfolds. There are quite a few twists and turn in the story that kept be well interested! And I always enjoy Jody Hedlund’s humorous lines she weaves into the story to make us laugh.

#BOOK REVIEW A Noble Groom by Jody Hedlund | Kindle Fire Giveaway and Facebook Party! {5/8} @Litfuse
4.5A Noble Groom is Christian historical fiction at its best. Annalisa’s plight was a common one in that era, when women were thought to be second-class citizens and daughters were considered to be a burden. Many young women were married off to anyone who would have them in order for the family to have one less mouth to feed. When Annalisa is surprised to learn that love is possible within a marriage it is sad to realize that many women of that time would have been just as surprised.
I highly recommend this novel. The author clearly knows her subject well and has done her research. The setting, both time and place, is accurate and well-detailed. Containing romance, history, and mystery, this novel should appeal to many readers.

Noble Groom-Love the History!
4.5This is the first time I have read anything by Jody so I had no idea what to expect. She put a lot of research into this book and obviously is passionate about what she writes. I loved the German influence and the historical aspects that were a part of every detail. The characters were delightful to read and their struggles and longings were believable- I can’t imagine farming back in the 1800s! The ending was no surprise and I could have guessed the majority of the story but for a sweet romance it is a good read.

Excellent Historical Romance Read
5With A Noble Groom, I looked forward to another wonderful read . . . and I wasn’t disappointed. Jody Hedlund has once again created such believable characters that I keep thinking I want to meet them in real life. I wanted to continue reading about Annalisa and Carl and Gretchen, Sophie, Uri, and the rest of the characters in the book. Well, not Mr. Ward and his henchmen, but the rest. The story line and the characters enriched my appreciation for history. The author also created believable back stories for her characters and enriched them with good reasons to guard their secrets carefully.

Loved all the little nuggets of wisdom
4.5What I loved about A Nobel Groom is the choice little nuggets of spiritual wisdom that is added to the book and designed to encourage Annalisa (and thus the reader). Annalisa isn’t a fighter (at least not on the outside) and believes that men have the right to use her as a doormat and Carl opens her eyes to how God sees her and that she can be cherished, loved and blessed with a loving husband and a good life.

A Noble Groom
4I’ve never read a book by Jody Hedlund before and found A Noble Groom to be a very pleasant story. I was a little frustrated that she kept referring to Carl’s abilities as a teacher and a chemist, but she did very little with that information in the story. Aside from that, the book was very well-written. I especially enjoyed the portion that dealt with the historic fire that ravaged the land during that time.

Loved this story!
5This was a really enthralling story that kept me reading to the end. It held my interest for a number of reasons, and honestly, Carl was a pretty spectacular hero. I totally loved him because his personality was a big draw for me. Yeah, he was a bit snobbish at first, but that was pretty minor. Overall he was a nice guy pretty much from the beginning. I totally adored him.
The heroine was precious. The author made her likable and you couldn’t help feeling sorry for her many struggles. She wasn’t ridiculously stubborn like some heroines are made out to be. I loved that she didn’t believe in fairy tale love at all and thought marriage was mainly for practical reasons. But the more she got to know Carl and saw how he exemplified sacrificial love, the more she understood what God intended.

5There is something magically wonderful about this book! A love like Carl and Annalisa’s doesn’t come along too often in fiction and I quickly fell for this book and these characters. 5When I get a novel by Jody Hedlund I know I’m guaranteed an enjoyable reading adventure. Since bursting onto the scene a few years ago with The Preacher’s Bride, Hedlund hasn’t disappointed once. A Noble Groom, her fourth effort, is exactly what I’ve come to expect from this author.
This book was very hard to put down. It melted my heart to watch these two fall in love. The chemistry between them sizzled off of the pages.

Humorous Romance
5I just love a romance with a sense of humor weaved throughout it. In A Noble Groom the novel, Jody Hedlund ads just enough humor to this story to keep it from being just another tragic love story.
I fell in love with Carl von Reichart from the minute he came into the story. His Witt and sense of humor added much humor and romance to the story. Just when you expected him to behave as a snobby nobleman he reacted like a sarcastic man. He made the story so enjoyable.

A Noble Groom
5I cannot remember the last time I wished a character in a novel was real so that I could marry him. But Carl? Carl gives Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy a run for his money. While Carl is by no means perfect, he is wonderful (and a lot less uppity than that Darcy fellow).
I loved everything about this novel—the characters, the plot, the cover (isn’t it fantastic?), and especially the romance. I also found myself incredibly thankful that I live in an era that values women and allows us to choose our own occupations and husbands!
Jody Hedlund is quickly becoming a must-read author for me. A Noble Groom is easily the best historical romance I’ve read this year.

Heart-Warming Historical Romance
5Jody Hedlund is one of my favorite historical authors. I’ve learned I can trust her to write a novel filled with a hero and heroine I want to see win as well as a setting that is historically intersting. Noble Groom grabbed me as I longed for the heroine to discover what love could be like. And the hero was an absolute enigma. He intrigued me and left me wondering how on earth he would manage in the heroine’s world. The German immigrant culture was richly drawn, and the author did a great job planting the story in the setting in such a way I can’t imagine it taking place anywhere else. The hero’s journey gave me thoughts of Joseph in places. And I think most of us can relate to the heroine’s desire to be seen and loved for who she was. Happy sigh at the end.

Terrific Read!
5The characters were well developed and very likable, I was definitely cheering for both Carl and Annalisa the whole way through
I liked how this book showed the ups and downs of life, but it was well balanced so that it wasn’t too heavy or too lightweight, but perfectly in the middle right where I like it. There were cute moments and poignant ones, all blending together into a memorable journey for both Annalisa and Carl.

A Noble Groom
5I pretty much loved everything about “A Noble Groom”. The characters were so well described they could have stepped right off the pages – even the villainous Ward. Both Annalisa and Carl were such strong and determined people but each of them needed to depend on the Lord a bit more for their guidance. The story had a little of everything, humor, drama, suspense, action, and disaster with a healthy dose of romance in all the right places.

A Noble Groom, by Jody Hedlund (With Giveaway!)
4.5Is it better to have an irresponsible husband or no husband at all? That’s the question Annalisa has to ask herself when she finds herself a widow. Her husband’s gambling addiction meant the family was almost penniless, but now she needs someone to maintain the family farm. Her father is determined she’ll marry a German and requests that his brother find someone suitable. When Carl shows up, everyone believes he’s the man Annalisa’s uncle has chosen and the pastor is summoned. But Carl makes it clear he’s only a temporary help, and plans to travel on to Chicago once the real groom arrives. He doesn’t appear to be any kind of farmer, but he can at least stand up to the businessman who wants to build a lumber mill on Annalisa’s land.

5I loved this book! I’ve been in somewhat of a reading slump lately. I’ve been reading but not really getting fully involved in the story. But this book grabbed me and drew me in until the end!
I loved watching as Carl and Annalisa’s story unfolded. Carl transformed from a self-proclaimed weakling into a strong farmer who could handle anything thrown at him. Annalisa transformed from a down-trodden shell of a woman into someone who believed that love was possible.

I found this book to be rather interesting. I liked the study of the pull between tradition and family and Annalisa’s wants and needs. She really wanted a love story for herself, but she was willing to pass on this to please her family. She only begins to see that she can have happiness when it is basically thrown at her in the form of Carl.

This was a great romantic novel. The cover of this book definitely draws me in-who doesn’t want to figure out who that dashing man is? Surviving with no husband in the 1800s was so very hard and Annalisa’s goal is to find a new husband in order to survive (enter the cover man?). The historical content of this book is intriguing and begs you to read more. There is just the right amount of historical content, romance and drama. I will definitely be reading more of Jody’s books and I recommend them to everyone who loves a great historical romance!!

A Noble Groom
5A NOBLE GROOM will be one that goes on my keeper shelf for me to reread and enjoy again and again. I loved Carl. I loved Annalisa, I loved Greta, and other secondary characters all came to life on the page. Set in my home state of Michigan, it also talks about some of the history of that state, the German immigrants that settled it, and the lengths they were willing to go to save their land. Awesome book.

A Noble Groom by Jody Hedlund
5The plot itself was really cool and I really liked how everything played out. Annalisa’s character was great and I enjoyed her but my favorite was definitely Carl. I loved how despite the fact that he hadn’t really worked a day in his life, he didn’t shy away from the work that was given him. No matter how hard it was he stumbled through until he figured it out. And then add to that how kind, caring, and considerate he was with Annalisa, Gretchen, and even the dog. There were many twists that I didn’t see coming and I laughed, cried , and sighed my way through this amazingly awesome book. I can’t say enough how amazing this author is and I HIGHLY recommend buying and reading all four of her fantastic novels!

Easily a 5-star book
5After reading A Noble Groom, I am setting out to find a list of Jody Hedlund books and send them to my Kindle. It was fantastic! I loved every minute of it.
This story about an escaped prisoner who ends up as an almost-mail-order husband. He ends up staying around to help until the family receives their real husband, which turns out to be quite a bit longer than he planned on.
The plot is well thought out and believable. The author had me rooting for him all along. This book is a must read, and I’ve already loaned it out to a friend. I absolutely recommend it.
This book was a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an objective review.

A Noble Groom by Jody Hedlund
4I really enjoyed Jody Hedlund’s A Noble Groom. It’s always nice when people can be redeemed, and in this novel, not only are Annalisa and her two daughter’s redeemed, but so is Carl Richards.

New: Noble Groom
5I love to read about the internal struggles the characters had when facing trials and temptations. The way tragedy can make some become stronger in their faith while others wrestle stubbornly, refusing to consider change. The example of love-filled marriages compared to those that weren’t and how it impacted others’ choices was an enlightening thread in the novel. I am thankful my parents were in a loving marriage, working their relationship during good and bad times. I am not sure I would have risked the depth in my heart had I not seen any loving marriages at all. Thank the Lord my husband and I will soon celebrate our 25th anniversary. Without Him, it never would have lasted or grown to the place it has. I trust Him for the future we have together.

A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups
5A Noble Groom is a fairy tale for grown-ups. It includes all the elements that I enjoyed as a little girl…from the prince and princess (Carl and Annalisa), to hardships, and evil overlords. I think that Carl and Annalisa’s story will wind itself around your heart and then find a home on your favorite book shelf.

Book Review: “A Noble Groom” by Jody Hedlund
5German immigrants came to the U.S. and started a farming community in Michigan. So, while Annalisa is alone concerning her ranch, she is not alone as part of the community. That lends itself to how women were treated back then and their rights. Her husband has died and she needs help to run the farm, male help, that she feels would work well in a new husband. Carl Richards has a past and will not share his secret however he is willing to work for Annalisa even though he really has no background in farming. Now these two must work together not only to save the farm but each other. This is a story about secrets and how they imprison people. It is a story about perception, how we perceive ourselves and how others perceive us and actual reality. Ms. Hedlund has given us a very interesting read.

\"A Nobel Groom\" by Jody Hedlund (Review & Giveaway)
5This was an interesting read giving insight into the plight of immigrants to the United States in 1880. Noble Groom specifically involves German immigrants seeking a new and better life free from the overlords and virtual enslavement of 1880 Germany and Europe. They initially came to work in the mines, but when that did not work out, they took advantage of the opportunity to establish farms on cheap land from which trees had been harvested. The land was filled with debris and tree stumps which made clearing the land and farming it formidable.
Determined to make this opportunity work and live as free men who owned their own land, they banded together into “communities.” In our story, the heroine is left by the death of her husband to make her land pay so the debt can be paid off…..

I Found Myself Cheering
4.5Hedlund brings vibrancy to her characters that draw the reader into their lives. I found myself cheering for Annalisa, hoping she would have the courage to stand against tradition and choose the man who would not only make an excellent father but would give Annalisa encouragement to be more than a household slave. Besides the authentic characterizations, the author describes the hardships the community faces in a way that makes the reader understand the difficulties. The desperate condition caused by a lack of food seems very real, begging the question how can a person work so hard without an adequate diet? And the devastation of a drought becomes a life and death situation. I do recommend this book.

Great History Piece & Romance Story
5I love a great story where there is so much going on than just the love story but a whole background of things going on also. It makes the story more interesting and keeps you up wanting to read more.
Alot happens to Carl and Annalisa in this story and some of it is not good, like the barn burning down and Carl getting hit on the back of the head. These are mysteries that they will work out together which in turn brings them closer together.
They don’t know it yet, but they have an enemy who will stop at nothing to get her land and Carl is the only one who can save them all. So, you see, it has alot of drama and suspense along with growing love and admiration for each other. That is the kind of book that anyone would want to read.

A Noble Groom by Jody Hedlund
5I admire how Jody Hedlund creates characters that are lovely, strong and endearing, yet they experience a bit of raw vulnerability, too. Annalisa and Carl’s story is not an easy one at times yet the strength they gain from each other is glorious. Their passion is palpable and I swooned over and over again! “Carl Richards” is at the top of my hero list- dashing, kind, brave, intelligent and very handsome.;)

\"A Noble Groom\" by Jody Hedlund
4.5Every Hedlund book gets better, and A Noble Groom is no exception to that rule. Jody Hedlund is a master at painting a scene. She fully immerses you in the drama that she has created until you’re positive that her characters are real and that you’re watching them live out their story.
It doesn’t hurt that A Noble Groom is set in the American pioneer era, one of my favorites in all of history, but I’m convinced I’d love it anyway. Hedlund’s mixture of historical reality and fictional drama are remarkably rare. Most authors excel at creating an unforgettable story or an amazing historical setting, but few can accurately portray the pain of a given era while still showcasing it as a romantic possibility as Hedlund.

Book Review--Noble Groom
3.5In A Noble Groom, author, Jody Hedlund sets out to tell Annalisa Werner’s story, one marked by a life of hardships and disappointments. Yet, things unseemingly take a turn after the death of her husband with the promise of new husband and the unexpected arrival of an interim helper, Carl Richards. Will this new husband be the solution to her problems or will his arrival prove disastrous?
From the onset, the characters and plot captivate you. Who is this forlorn woman who has had to face tragedy and adversity all the while still determined to fight to remain on her land? Who is this noble man accused of murder and sentenced to execution? And how will their lives intertwine?

Dreams Do Come True...
5I was instantly drawn into this intricate plot of love, sacrifice, and history. In Jody’s latest work we are transported to the 1800′s where we preview the life of the German immigrants in America. The author paints a vivid picture of the many harsh realities the immigrants face- language, lack of money /resources, sickness, and poverty were just a few. A common pattern I’ve seen after reading Jody’s last two works, is how she writes about the many struggles women faced throughout different periods in History. This book opened my eyes to see the harsh realities of what it meant to be born a girl back in the 1800′s. The books overall message was how God is in control even when we can not see it.

5.5I loved this story!! So detailed and sure, Carl learns what it is like to really live and to recognize the struggle the immigrants have coming to their New World. They are no longer under the barrenness of servitude in their Old Country. They bring their old customs and traditions with them; some very hard to bear. Both protagonists are strong in their beliefs. Hopefully, both will discover they have been watched over by the only One who can protect them.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

A Noble Groom...Review
4Carl was awesome. Bit too good to be true, but compared with Hans and the other men of the settlement, he’s a true saint. His interactions with Gretchen, especially, were delightful. Annalisa was a strong, spunky young woman determined to make the best of her life, regardless of her circumstances. While likely historically accurate, the treatment of women at the hands of their husbands really bothered me. These women had no say in their own lives, their husbands and fathers completely ruled their lives, even to the point of deciding when and whom they would marry. Perhaps that was a leftover from the class differences in Germany. At any rate, it really made me mad and I loved seeing Carl challenge it and treat Annalisa with the respect she deserved.

5My Review:
Well this was the first book from this author I have ever read. But, she is now going to be going on my fav author list! I loved this book from the beginning. I fell in love with the cover this noble groom looking like a historical superman! This book will leave you on the edge of your seat to find out what is going on!
Annalisa has a love of fairy tales that is pretty much murdered with her present life. But when her husband dies and her family sends for a groom from the old country the man who arrives is not her relative but a man named Carl who spins this tale on its head and will leave you begging for more!!

Book Review: A Noble Groom by Jody Hedlund
4With each smile, laugh and open direct conversation with Carl, Annalisa realizes that perhaps there is something more to life than how she had been living. What happens when loyalty to family, honoring traditions and doing what is expected of you collide with the possibility of love and A Noble Groom? Ms. Hedlund writes an engaging story that answers that question and gives you insight into real people and events from the 1880′s along the way.
