In this story you feel like you are right there with M.K., Chris, Jenny, Fern, Amos, etc. You feel like laughing crying with the character. It’s called “The Lesson” by Suzanne Woods Fisher whose other books have been great to read! This book was one that I could not put down! It reminded me that there is always something that happens in life and even when you aren’t expecting it there is something you can’t do to get away from it. 4.5Truthfully, at the beginning of the novel I found the character of M.K. to be too frivolous and excitable to be believable. But as the story progressed and the character matured, I became more interested in the story. The back story of Chris and Jenny was particularly compelling, as it is not a theme usually addressed in Amish fiction. I really appreciated the author’s commitment to a realistic ending, as it would have been easy for her to take another route.
Appropriate for adolescents and older.

5I got in a little late in this series as this is the third book and final book in this series. Now I find myself wanting to read the other two books in the series. How did I miss the other two books!
I have always enjoyed Suzanne Woods Fisher’s books. Even though I didn’t read the other books in the series I was able to jump right in the story as the story without missing too much.
This is not your typical Amish series. The characters are interesting, one of a kind, and just plain likable. M.K. is fun, witty, unique, and just an unforgettable character. She is so passionate once she gets her mind set on something.
Chris and Jenny you can’t help but to have some deep feelings for them. You just want everything to work out for them. You will just have to find read it for yourself to

Wonderful Conclusion to a Wonderful Series
5The Lesson By Suzanne Woods Fisher is the third and last book in her Stoney Ridge Seasons and I loved it. I had the privilege of reading the previous books in this series and The Lesson did not disappoint. The Lesson is centered around Mary Kate Lapp, known by all as M.K. 5It’s another hit novel from one of my favorite authors, Suzanne Woods Fisher. The Lesson is the perfect read for fans of her series, Stoney Ridge Seasons. It brings you right into the world of Amish living, and once again, brings you to a simpler way of living with each page written. I read the book very quickly as the pace was fast, the characters delightful, and I loved that there were several story lines, with even a few twists and turns that I was not expecting.

A Great Conclusion to the Series!
4Anyone, Amish fiction readers and young adult fiction readers, will enjoy this book. It’s so well written and even though it’s labeled as a romance it’s probably one of the most “real” fiction books that I’ve read. Without giving anything away I’ll just say that not everything works out perfectly and some people are still left with scars and situations that are difficult to deal with even after the last page is turned. I have to hand it to Suzanne for making the Stoney Ridge series and its characters so complex and yet easy to relate to. I’m going to miss the Lapps and their Amish community but hopefully her new series goes for the gut as these last two have.

The End of the Stoney Ridge Series, BUT what an ending!!
5Suzanne’s special and unique ability to develop her characters is evident throughout this story. She has built on the first book of the series by having them age and mature. I eagerly awaited MK”s appearance in this book and was thrilled to discover that she was the main character, the focus of the whole adventure! MK has remained precocious throughout the stories, from a wee one to a young lady and has the ability to make you laugh , cry and even feel some fear, all in the same chapter. You get to the point of feeling that she is part of your family or a very dear friend and you want to rescue her when she gets into her typical MK situations- quaint, funny, sometimes dangerous! All of the characters are appealing, each in their own way. They are ordinary people with ordinary problems and have to deal with the crisis of the day! The Amish faith and lifestyle shines through . Although they may have problems, the way in which they are dealt with, exhibit their faith and reassurance in God and His ability to see them through.

I loved M.K’s descriptions of Fern. Fern! So over involved! So meddlesome! So ever-present!

Excellent Story!
5I really liked how the story had her taking on the task of teaching school, when she really didn’t want to. It emphasized to me how these things happen in our lives and they end up being something the Lord has planned for us and we end up actually enjoying these things.
This story has the right balance of intrigue, romance, fun, and thoughtful lessons. It was one of those books I had a hard time putting down because it was so delightful! I highly recommend it!

The Lesson
5I was super excited to see how Suzanne would bring all this to a closure. It can be read as a stand alone but to really get to know the characters of Stoney Ridge, you will want to pick up the other two books. This is a delightful end to the most animated character in this series and one I could relate to quite a bit with my own version of M.K. in my youngest daughter. It has allowed me to see her a bit differently than I did before and like the ending of the book, it all comes full circle when you can see where it has all been going before. For fans of Christian Amish Romance with a bit of mystery attached, you will want to place this one on your must read list! I rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars!

5Oh~ what I love about Suzanne’s books is her ability to sweep you away into the Amish world as if you were riding in the horse and buggy yourself. This book is no exception. I felt like I was in Stoney Ridge myself eating pie and baking bread!

4.5The Lesson is another wonderful novel by Suzanne Woods Fisher, the 3rd book in the Stoney Ridge Seasons series. I had read the first two books, and the character Mary Kate Lapp was so much fun in the previous two! I was so glad when I saw this book was going to center around Mary Kate! I loved that there was so much going on in this story-Mary Kate Lapp is not your normal Amish young woman, she seems to attract trouble! Her personal journey overcoming her fear at being the local schoolteacher is inspiring, and the new character Chris Yoder was a great addition! The Lesson has characters that you feel like you know personally by the end of the story, and the story moves along at a perfect pace. Even if you haven’t read the first two in this series, you could easily read The Lesson by itself.

4.5M.K. is such a fun protagonist—her thought processes are so unusual, and Woods does a fantastic job of putting the reader inside M.K.’s head! I also appreciated how M.K. grew throughout the novel, and the lesson she learned about contentment is one I need to learn, as well.
The story is filled with love, heartache, misunderstandings, forgiveness, unexpected twists, and a healthy dose of humor. And the supporting characters—especially M.K.’s stepmother Fern, her pupil Jenny, and her UNCLE HANK (you’ll understand when you read the book)—are so fun to read about.
The Lesson is a fitting conclusion to a great series, and I highly recommend it!

Goodbye to Stoney Ridge in Style
4As always I did thoroughly enjoy Ms. Woods Fisher’s way around the Amish community. I do hold a place in my heart and reading schedule for Amish fiction and the books from this author are some of my favorites. The characters (with Mary Kate’s exception) are a delight and they remind me of places I visited when I was child living in Philadelphia and then New Jersey. The stories are wholesome and the romances sweet. A nice break from some of the darker, heavier books I read.
I will look forward to the next series and the next set of Amish stories from the pen of Ms. Woods Fisher.

Review - The Lesson
5The author does a wonderful job of adding suspense, humor and romance in the final Stoney Ridge Seasons book. The supporting characters are nicely written as well as the dialogue. The Lesson is fast paced sequel that I read in one sitting and I’m hoping that the author will write some sort of spin-off with M.K. in the near future.

5Overall, this is one of those books that you can just sit back and relax with. I couldn’t keep from smiling as I read. M.K. is such a fun character! An utterly enjoyable read!

5Another great Amish fiction book by Suzanne Woods Fisher. I’ve enjoyed reading her books for awhile now and appreciate that her stories are interesting and her characters are real.
Her stories aren’t “preachy” or “cheesy” so I always enjoy reading her latest book.

The Lesson - a Fitting End to the Stoney Ridge Seasons Series
4.5Suzanne Woods Fisher is quickly becoming one of my favorite Amish fiction authors and The Lesson did not disappoint. Fisher has a way of interweaving bits of intrigue and drama into her lighthearted romantic tales that make you not want to put the book down until you have read the very last page.
I was captivated by Mary Kate’s story in The Lesson. I think we can all relate to wanting something more out of life than what we have. I really enjoyed MK’s transformation throughout the story as she blossomed into the woman God wanted her to be.

I loved reading MK\'s story!
4.5I was so excited to pick The Lesson up and continue the story of MK, the younger and irresponsible sister!
I loved seeing how she has grown up but is still as silly and fun as before! But she is grown up and we get to watch her experience grown up things like a job and romance!
As always, this book is well written and had me excited to to see what was to come with every turn of the page!

M.K. has to be one of my favorite Suzanne Woods Fisher characters. She is spunky, bright and a tad impulsive. Longing to see the world, she is frustrated when the school board and her step-mother Fern push her into becoming a substitute teacher. When new student Jenny Yoder comes to class, M.K. is curious about her and her older brother Chris, new arrivals in Stoney Ridge.

4The title of this book, The Lesson, is titled this way on purpose. All the characters in this book all ‘learn lessons’. Some may be good, others not so good, but they ALL learn very worthwhile lessons about themselves and others. It was enjoyable.

Although Amish fiction is not my preferred genre, I always look forward to any new novel by Suzanne Woods Fisher. The Lesson is a very multi-layered story filled with a group of characters that will make you laugh and cry, and leave your heart forever changed. There are elements of this story that are unexpected and will cause you to reconsider how you relate to those around you – how you can make a difference in the lives of others if you can just let go of your own hurts and faults. The Lesson
5Suzanne Woods Fisher is one of my all time favorite authors, especially for Amish fiction. She keeps her characters true to form and doesn’t try to modernize them or make them what they would otherwise be as Amish people. Her characters are so down to earth, honest to goodness people that you feel like they could be the kid next door or the girl behind the counter at the bakery. She reels you in, hook like and sinker making you beg for more when you have read the final word on the final page. The Lesson is no exception. You will fall in love with MK and her free-spirited impulsive nature, which is completely out of character for what we perceive as Amish way of life. MK just goes to prove that stereotypes are to be thrown out the window!

5From the first book I ever read by Suzanne Woods Fisher, I was hooked! She writes about real life and real relationships and does so in a refreshing way. The Lesson is another wonderful book from this talented author. The third book in the Stoney Ridge Seasons series features youngest daughter Mary Kate Lapp or M.K. as she is known in her community. Impulsive and restless, Mary Kate embarks on yet another adventure — teaching the scholars of her Amish community. Through this she begins to really grow up. And because M.K. would love to be a detective if she were not Amish, mysteries abound. All in all, Fisher has written another winner!

5From the beginning paragraphs Ms. Fisher creates a story that’s filled with a bit of mystery along with plenty of excitement for nineteen year old M.K. Lapp who had been longing for a bit of adventure.
I have loved the entire Stoney Ridge Seasons series and couldn’t wait to read Mary Kate’s story who happened to be one of my favorite characters in the series. All I can say is that Suzanne saved the best story for last!

5You are going to LOVE the conclusion to the Stoney Ridge Seasons series. As with any of Suzanne’s books I could not put it down. I loved Mary Kate Lapp and Chris and his sister Jenny. I feel in love with all three of them right off the bat.
This is a must read series. Best book hands down in the series.
If you have not read Suzanne’s books before, this is fantastic series to start out with.
I give this book 5 stars

The Lesson
5I thoroughly enjoyed reading Mary Kate’s story. She was a fun character throughout the first two books in the series
because of her free spirit, and determination to find out everything! I am also a Susan Wood’s Fisher fan and I love
this entire series. The characters were enjoyable and realistic, drawing you into the story and keeping your attention.
And the interesting plot keeps you reading because so much is happening to the Lapp family you just want to find
out the outcome.

5I was so looking forward to this book! I’ve read the other two in the series, and M.K. was, by far, my favorite character from the series and I was so excited that this was her story. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. This book was so good, I couldn’t harldy put it down. M.K. is just as precoucious as and adult as she was as a child.

MK grows up
5The author has a great way of showing the Amish as real people, with quirks and issues just like everyone else. In the beginning of the book, I found myself a little annoyed with Mary Kate, but as the book progressed, I realized I was very much like her at that age, and I enjoyed watching her grow as she experienced the things life handed her. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Amish literature and coming of age books.

5How I have waited for the final book to the Stoney Ridge Seasons series! M.K. Lapp has been my favorite character since the beginning of the series and whose story I was most interested in reading.
I think that the plot of The Lesson was the best by far. All of the characters were well-developed and grew to be ones that the reader can relate to.

5Another great book by Suzanne Woods Fisher. This is Mary Kate Lapps story, a free spirit, as you know if you have read the other books in this series. She loves her brown bees, and her red scooter. Can just picture her riding down hill with her eyes closed on this scooter…when she collides with Chris Yoder. Another collision with the then teacher, ends up making her the teacher!
