A Heart’s Obsession

A Heart’s Obsession

A Heart’s Obsession (Thomas Nelson, April 2015)

Will Sarah’s journey west lead her back into the arms of the one man she can trust?

When her father succumbs to a long illness, Sarah Montgomery is freed from duty to family. At last she can be with the love of her life, Rand Campbell, who has gone out west to Fort Laramie, Wyoming. Sarah and her younger brother Joel make the arduous journey filled with hope.

But at Fort Laramie, the reception Sarah meets isn’t what she had hoped for. Her friend Amelia is thrilled to have her, but Rand seems to be in the clutches of Jessica DuBois, the scheming daughter of the post commander.

Sarah resolves to remain at Fort Laramie and try to win Rand back. But things will get tougher before they get easier . . . especially when her ex-fiancé Ben Croftner arrives in Wyoming, obsessed with having her back in his arms.

  • (A HEART’S OBSESSION) I think this was a great book to make into a serial. I am not usually a huge fan of serials, but they can be fun if they’re done right. I can’t say I loved this installment, but that’s mainly because some of the characters are annoying me. However, I care enough about the characters, and they feel authentic enough TO annoy me, so that’s something.

This novella was pretty much nonstop action and drama like the first, as you would expect in a serial. I don’t want to say too much and give things away, but I am NOT a fan of Rand right now. Or certain other people. I’m not sure that there is a way to solve the issue they’re having that won’t bug me, but there are several installments left, so I guess we’ll see. I wish Sarah would stand up for herself with Rand a little bit more and be nicer to Jessica. I think her anger is misdirected in an unfair way. I’m excited to see what happens next!! Stay tuned for my review of A Heart’s Danger next month.

*I received an ARC of this title from LitFuse in exchange for an honest review.

  • (A HEART’S OBSESSION) This is the second book in the Journey of the Heart Series and makes one truly hunger for more. This is the first series, best selling author Colleen Coble wrote while dealing with the sudden death of her own brother’s death whom she immortalizes in the character of Rand. It is short enough to read in about a couple of hours at about 98 pages, but feels like a much bigger novel. Being a huge fan of Christian Westerns, this one fit right into my favorite genre! Well deserved 5 out of 5 stars!

  • (A HEART’S OBSESSION)…I LOVED this one more than the first book in the series…Twists and dangers abound in A Heart’s Obsession, and with all that’s going on I can’t help but wonder, what will our hero and heroine face next?

  • A Heart’s Obsession
I have mixed thoughts on this story. While I like the historical aspect, I have a harder time with the characters and how quickly they seem to move on when it comes to their relationships. That said, I think that I liked this part even better than the first, since it has a lot of adventure in it! The story ends at a cliff hanger.;)

  • A Heart’s Obsession

I am thoroughly enjoying this serial novella by Colleen Coble. Each month a new book is released, unfolding a bit more of the story. Brief enough to be read in an hour or so, A Heart’s Obsession begins some time after A Heart’s Disguise ends as the story continues and moves out west to Ft. Laramie, Wyoming. Coble continues to weave an intriguing story around Sarah and Rand. . . .

Book two of the Journey of the Heart series finds Sarah encouraged by her friend Amelia to travel with he and her new husband to Fort Laramie and make things right with Rand. Unfortunately Sarah finds that things are entirely different than what she expected. If she wants to regain Rand’s love, she may just have to fight for it. To make matters worse, Ben Croftner makes an appearance and it does not look like he will leave without causing trouble.

“A Heart’s Obsession” continues the story of Sarah and Rand with plenty of action, drama, and suspense. At this point in the story, I am not too happy with Rand and would like to see Sarah be a bit more assertive. I will be forced to wait until the next installment (or horrors, even later) to find out if their situation improves to my satisfaction. That is one aspect of serial novels that I do not like. I suppose I am just too impatient. Even full length series can try my patience!

Once again, this novella is a welcome look back at one of Colleen Coble’s earliest work that is a fine indicator of the talent that has made her one of my top favorite authors.

  • A Heart’s Obsession

As Sarah struggles to accept that Jessica makes Rand happy she finds herself being put to good use teaching the Native American children English and becoming quite fond of two of the girls. This blossoming friendship endangers one of the girls when Ben Croftner arrives in Wyoming intent on claiming Sarah as his. Despite her protests he finds another way to bring her pain and once again both Sarah and Rand are tangled up in Ben’s plot to claim Sarah for himself. As with Book 1, the novella ends leaving us wondering what will happen next.

This is the second book in this mini series and I enjoyed it more so than the first! With only eight chapters you only get a little more of the story and the ending is abrupt. I really like Rand’s character thus far and I look forward to seeing what he does with his career and romance situation. Sarah drives me crazy and her story hopefully will get better! This book adds a mix up to the romance side of the story-and an added threat to their safety. I look forward to the next book to see where this story line leads.

“I received this book from Litfuse for free in exchange for an honest review.”

A month is too long to wait for the next part of the story!

Sarah is not the only one being held captive! From the first page… to the last page, Colleen will hold your fingers to the pages and your eyes to the words!

The story will hold you in it’s grip and make you desperate for each new chapter.

Still difficult to believe that Colleen wrote this book at the beginning of her career. But then… I haven’t read a lot of her others yet.

    Clearly I need to!

    And you do too!

    WOW! Just WOW!

  • I thought Book 2 was as good as Book 1 in the Journey of the Heart series. I sailed through this installment and was just as frustrated as at the end of Book 2. Good frustrated. I think Colleen did a good job with this story. Anxiously awaiting Book 3.

  • I am enjoying this collection. In A Heart’s Obsession, I felt so sorry for Sarah and the situation she finds herself in. Heartbroken after the death of her father, she ends up finding more heartache when she travels with her friends to Fort Laramie. Rand is no help, and in fact is at the heart of the problem. He has made choices in both book one and two that frustrated me. But, I am looking forward to continuing on in this journey and seeing how everything builds in the storyline.

  • Moments says:

This book was so full of emotion and I was completely drawn into Sarah’s life and her interactions with the other characters at Fort Laramie. Sarah and Rand have both been hurt and are struggling to sort out their feelings in the midst of their commitments they have made to others and each other and their past together.

  • I waited and waited for “A Heart’s Obsession” {the second book in the Journey of the Heart series} to arrive. I thought I knew how the 2nd book was going to end, but I was WRONG! It did not go in the direction that I had thought it would. But, that’s ok. It kept me interested throughout the whole book. Having to wait a month in between releases is driving me insane. I want to know what happens already. I can’t wait for the next book to arrive in May!

  • A Heart’s Obsession is the second book in Colleen Coble’s Journey of the Heart series, and like the first we are left with a cliffhanger.
When we begin this book Rand has departed for Ft Laramie, Wyoming, Indian Territory. He has left Sarah Montgomery devastated. She is now dealing with the grief of loosing her Dad and the love of her life.
She begins her journey to Wyoming with her brother Joel and her best friend Amelia. We are about to experience what she finds when she gets there, and the long arm of evil. The evil appears to come in different forms, and we root for the defeat. Of course the Ben from the first book shows up again, and now there is another person.
Another quick read, and has me wanting more, I want to know what happens, and can hardly wait!

  • “A Heart’s Obsession” is book two of author Colleen Coble’s “Journey of the Heart” series. The reader may recall our introduction to the series. The first edition was set in the year 1865, in the pristine locality of Wabash, Indiana as America celebrated the end of the Civil War.
Author Colleen Coble begins book two during the Indian Wars of the late 15th Century. Colleen did an excellent job of describing the characters and their emotions, as well as the elaborate scenes.

  • (A HEART’S OBSESSION) I could not wait for the second book! I was so excited, I read this book immediately! It was awesome! I cannot wait till the third book. These books are wonderful! Will Rand continue to fight for Sarah’s heart?

  • “Obsession” was loads more enjoyable than the first installment. The story still progresses at lightening speed which is probably unavoidable with a series like this. It is almost like mini YouTube shows. Although the pace still is hectic, I felt that overall the events made more sense. The decisions the characters were making and the actions they took had more history, more basis than before.

“Obsession” has me much more excited for the next installment. I’m also more excited to get my hands on more Coble in general. Four stars for this one.

  • A Heart’s Obsession
A Heart’s Obsession is book two in the Journey of the Heart series. This book is a wonderful continuation of the first book. I’m definitely looking forward to book three.

  • How much did I want to chuck this book across the room? Let me count the ways.

Even after “the love of her life” rejects her and runs off to Wyoming in a bent out of shape snit because after thinking he was dead for a whole year, Sarah gave into pressure from her father and brother to marry the underhanded and sleazy Ben Croftner (even though she broke off the engagement the second she knew that Rand was alive), Sarah still follows him out to Fort Laramie, thinking she can just fall into his immature arms and live happily ever after, only to find out when she gets there that he’s engaged to marry another woman he just met after self-righteously declaring that love was “dead to him” less than two months after leaving Sarah in the dust.

For my full review, you’ll have to read my blog post.

  • A Heart’s Obsession might be titled A Heart’s Hope. It gave me hope that Sarah might just grow up a little bit after all. Her father’s absence is sure to be a difficulty that she’ll have to overcome, and I hope she learns to stand on her own. Sarah has a hard time knowing her own heart, and I hope that she does that sooner rather than later. I have hopes that Ben will meet his true match……someone he really deserves. Oh, the hopes I have for this series!

  • (A Heart’s Obsession) The second book of the Journey of the Heart series by Colleen Coble is out and it is as good as the first. It picks up where the first one left off with Sarah and her having to make some serious decisions, and it keeps you going throughout the whole short book, or better, novella. I really enjoy the way that Colleen can describe things with such vivid detail that you feel like you are right there with everyone.

I love that this, and all the books of the series, are short. You can sit down in one short afternoon and read the whole thing. It keeps you interested and caring about the characters, especially Sarah, the whole way through. I really enjoyed it and can hardly wait for the third installment!

  • (A Heart’s Obsession) This is the 2nd book in the series by Colleen Coble, it picks up right where the first one left off and we get to further dive into poor Sarah’s predicament, with an evil ex-fiance and her true love in the clutches of a scheming women, could things get worse? This is a quick and easy read, I got through it very quickly and overall enjoyed it, although at times it was a bit melodramatic. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

  • “A Heart’s Obsession” is book two in the Journey Of The Heart series. If you really want to know just what is going on you need to read book one, “A Heart’s Disguise”. Rand has gone to Wyoming while Sarah stays with her father. Then he dies freeing Sarah to go find Rand and marry him. And that is the set-up for this book. All the elements are there as Sarah arrives and Rand has messed everything up. Just when you think it cannot get any worse the ex-fiance of Sarah shows up. There is a whole lot going on in the ninety-eight pages of story that you are going to want to read for yourself. Sarah and Rand are such wonderful characters and we get so emotionally involved with them it seems as though we have been friends with them forever.

  • A Heart’s Obsession-The excitement continues in A Heart’s Obsession! This second installment to the Journey of the Heart series was another one I couldn’t put down. Thank goodness they are short books or I’m afraid my family would be missing me for a few days! In this book, Sarah arrives at the Fort, only to be very disappointed to find Rand involved with another woman. She decides to be strong and stay at the Fort anyway. I love Sarah’s character-she is feminine and dainty on the outside, but still strong and always trying to do what is right.

  • WV Stitcher says:

A Heart’s Obsession is the second installment of The Journey of the Heart series and while a short read really packs plenty of story into a few pages. With plenty of action and a non stop plot that really speeds by at a breakneck pace this book is one that I just couldn’t put down once I started reading it. Ms. Coble makes me feel as if I have stepped right into the lives of the characters, with descriptive writing the setting as well as the characters really come to life. If I had one complaint it’s that when I reached the end I was left wanting more!

  • EmpowerMoms says:

This short story picked up where book 1 left off. I don’t think they would make much sense if they aren’t read together and in order. I wouldn’t consider this Colleen Coble’s typical writing since it’s not suspenseful, but it’s still a good book.

Sarah leaves Indiana and travels out to Wyoming with her friends to start a new life. She tries to ignite the love that she and Rand had before the war, but is it too late?

  • A Heart’s Obsession is book two in the Journey of the Heart series by Colleen Coble (the very first series that she ever wrote) and I have really enjoyed the novella installments each month! A Heart’s Obsession picks up a few months later than where A Heart’s Disguise left off and was just as well written and engaging as the first book. It was nice to get to know the characters a little more and the story was well put together in addition to having a decent amount of intensity for a novella so I was overall pleased with this book.

  • The book can be read as a stand alone, but if you want the full impact of the story you will have to read the series in order. The characters are created to bring you closer and feel the heart tears and strengths. I would recommend this book more so for older adults as they would connect more.

  • Join Colleen Coble as she takes you to Fort Laramie, Wyoming in 1865. The Civil War has just came to an end and the West has yet to be “won”. She continues the story of Sarah Montgomery and Rand Campbell. Will they truly be together? Or will they each go separate ways?

I love an author that evokes emotions from you. If it is not tears that they cause you to shed, but just want to smack some of the characters or just want to shake them into seeing what is right in front of them. Colleen Coble does just that in this series. Your emotions are all across the board with these characters. You are mourning and wanting to smack someone at the same time. So, come take the journey and see what is in store for you with this series.

  • A Heart’s Obsession is book two in the Journey of the Heart series by Colleen Coble. The story takes places where where A Heart’s Disguise left off. Sarah and Rand’s story. Sarah is trying her best to win Rand back and out of the clutches of the commander’s daughter Jessica which will not be easy. Will then end up together. Or will Ben and Jessica stand in the way?
Again another great story by the author and this can be read as a stand alone but I would recommend reading the books in order. A great series.

  • A Heart’s Obsession, Book 2, Sarah realizes that all that tied her to her Indiana hometown is gone. With her family loyalties no longer in the way, Sarah wishes to reconnect with Rand. The problem is that Rand has already headed West. He’s been assigned to Fort Laramie in Wyoming. Hitching a ride with her younger brother and his bride, Sarah arrives at the Fort only to discover that Rand seems to have already forgotten her when he moved on to the lovely Jessica DuBois.

As a standalone book, A Heart’s Obsession is a much better story than Book 1. However, I just do not understand why this book is not one long novel. So while I’m enjoying the story, this 6-part series is still at this point a total publishing house fail.

  • I was super excited when this book arrived since I have been waiting to find out what will happened next with Rand and Sarah. Well, this time it is Sarah’s turn to feel jilted by her love, Rand in book two of the Journey of the Heart Series. When Sarah shows up to where Rand has been stationed thinking they will be reunited she is in for a big surprise.

  • After the last book, anyone else ready to smack Rand into some sense? I know I am!

I love this mini series of books that Collleen has written. Since I have been a book reviewer, I think Colleen’s books have always been my favorite. Her style of writing offers just enough history to keep you interested, a little sway of mystery — because you have to have someone who is trying to get over on someone — and always tons of romance.

In this 2nd book in this series, we find out what happens with Rand. I won’t say too much because I don’t want to give it away.

All I can say is that with each book, I could not put it down and could not wait to read the next installment.

If you want to read a series that is quick but extremely intriguing. . . then this series is for you.

  • This is the second volume in Colleen Coble’s Journey of the Heart series. We follow the tremendously likeable Sarah Montgomery west to Fort Laramie, Wyoming and the love of her life, Rand Campbell. The series takes place directly after the Civil War and it’s a great blend of romance and history. It’s not a period I am very familiar with and I very much enjoyed reading about Sarah’s life in Wyoming. I am glad that there are four more books in the series and delighted that the next book, “A Heart’s Danger” is waiting for me.

  • It seems that Fort Laramie is going to be an intriguing setting. We got an introduction to it, and there’s a lot that could develop between the soldiers, tensions with the Indians, and the women in the fort. I’m very intrigued and am interested to see how the story will move forward from here.

  • Memawsstuff says:

In Heart’s Obsession Each person must deal with things that others force on them also while dealing with their own heart’s obsessions! Coble gets you intrigued from the first words to the very last

  • Sarah’s father passes away, and she decides to leave home with her little brother. She travels to Fort Laramie where the love of her life lives. But, she doesn’t get the reception she anticipated. Will she stay or will she go back home?

I can’t wait until book number 3 arrives!

  • I really enjoyed reading A Heart’s Obsession. It is a very fast read and I read it in one afternoon. This is the second book in the Journey of The Heart Series and it is moving right along. Sarah travels West to Fort Laramie, Wyoming after her father dies. On the way she faces Indians and other complications. Once there her ex-fiance Ben tries to win her back but her heart is in love with someone else. I think you will like this installment in The Journey of the Heart Series. Can’t wait to start the next one!
