Dancing with Fireflies

Dancing with Fireflies

A Chapel Springs Romance

Jade returns home to Chapel Springs after years of protecting her fragile heart. Then along comes Daniel, making her long to dance again.

Creative and complicated, Jade McKinley felt like a weed in a rose garden growing up in Chapel Springs. When she left, she thought she’d never look back. But now, pregnant, alone, and broke, she has no other choice but to return.

The mayor of Chapel Springs, Daniel Dawson, has been an honorary member of the McKinley family for years. While his own home life was almost non-existent, Daniel fit right into the boisterous McKinley family. He’s loved Jade for years, but she always saw him as a big brother. Now that she’s back, his feelings are stronger than ever.

As Jade attempts to settle in, nothing feels right. God seems far away, she’s hiding secrets from her family, and she’s strangely attracted to the man who’s always called her “squirt.” Finding her way home may prove more difficult than she imagined.

  • Denise Hunter has once again released a perfect performance in the writing of Dancing With Fireflies. As usual her characters and story line have won out and you will be captivated by Jade’s story.

  • Different from the first book, I wasn’t quite certain where this book would end and I loved it. I read this one quicker because I felt more invested in the story and really wanted to find out where Jade would end up. It was also easier to read as I had just finished the first book and knew the characters pretty well. I am hoping that there will be a few more books centered around this family.

  • It’s a really good thing I began this book on a slow day at home, because once I started it I had a very hard time setting it aside. Jade’s story is just that engaging. She’s a colorful, passionate person. She has big dreams and bright eyes that are so green “God must have invented the shade just for her.”

This novel is rich will memorable lines, it has many serious and sweet moments as people live this thing called Life, and sometimes it made me laugh out loud. Again, excellent book.
And….the Small Town is also presented here in all its zany glory, with its wild politics and the spare key to the county building not being hidden very well and the volunteer firemen being called away in the middle of a family dinner.

  • This is a really good book to read and if you are a true romantic at heart, this book will delight you. I am pleased that they showed that love does win out in the end if you just have enough faith and believe in what you have!

This started out to be a tragedy for Jade in more ways than one. She leaves one tragedy behind her thinking the new town will be good for her and all she does is go from the frying pan into the fire.

  • The author, Denise Hunter has once again written a heartwarming story that made me smile. Jade is a young woman who has come home again hoping and having faith that everything will be okay. Will she be able to trust what her heart is telling her?

  • Moments says:

I was so excited to finally have Denise Hunter’s latest novel, “Dancing With Fireflies” to read; it was such a long wait between “Barefoot Summer” and this one, but it was worth it! Denise dives right back into the lives of the McKinley family and back into the sweet town of Chapel Springs and I felt as if I had never left them! Denise does a fabulous job of reminding the readers of the previous story in the series by little comments in the first part of the book without backtracking too much which was great because it had been awhile since I had read “Barefoot Summer” and yet the story all came back to me once I began reading “Dancing With Fireflies.”

  • WORD Up! says:

“Dancing with Fireflies” by Denise Hunter is a thoughtful and touching romance that brings home the truth of God’s love and acceptance in spite of heart-wrenching circumstances.

This is a beautiful love story. I did get a bit frustrated with the characters as they denied their feelings and talked themselves out of being honest with each other, which is a fairly predictable way to create tension in a romance novel. But Denise Hunter has a way of writing a very satisfying romantic story in spite of those things. She takes the reader to the brink of that frustration and then rewards the reader for her persistence to turn pages with delicious moments. This is the second Chapel Springs romance, but “Dancing with Fireflies” reads well as a stand-alone novel.

  • Dancing with Fireflies is truly a story that brings beauty for ashes to both Jade and Daniel! I loved returning to Chapel Springs and spending time getting re-acquainted with the McKinley family, as well as getting to know the characters that I fell in love with in the first book of the series, Barefoot Summer better. I highly recommend this series, to fans of Denise Hunter, as well as anyone who enjoys true Christian Fiction.

  • Dancing with Fireflies by Denise Hunter is a story that shows the healing that love can deliver to those who are hurting, be it from God and or from the people that God has put into the lives of the hurting. Hunter has written a beautiful story that uses a dark and difficult subject as an obstacle that brings two people together with healing and redemption.

This is a story and subject that is much more common in today’s society than many want to believe. I feel that seeing this in books is an astounding opportunity and new ground for this tough issues to be talked about and shown that there is healing–and that is the love of God who gives it.

  • To put it quite simply, I adored this book! I always love Denise Hunter’s books but I’m pretty sure this is my all-time favorite! Several of my favorite story elements were included and the writing was just superb!
Daniel was an absolutely fantastic hero! He was sweet, kind, and considerate while also being brave, strong, and determined. So many of the things he did just absolutely made me melt! I’ll refrain from sharing them since it’s always more fun to discover those things on your own!
I loved Jade, too! I thought it was so amazing how though despite what she went through she was determined to what was best for her babies no matter what it cost her. I also loved her sweet and selfless nature!
It was such fun to visit with all the McKinley’s, and Beckett, again…

Super, Fantastic, Heartwarming, brilliant are just a few words to describe this book.
I am Denise’s number one fan, she does not know how to write anything but 5 star books.
Dancing with Fireflies was yet another one of those five star books, you can NOT put it down once you start reading it.
I fell in love with Jade and Daniel and cheered every step of the way for them.
This is the best romance book you will read all year.
I was so happy at how everything turned out in the end.
This just might be Denise’s best book by far!
I gave this book 5 stars of course.
I was given a copy if this book by the publisher for my honest review.

  • A new book by Denise Hunter! This was one of her best. I know I say that about all of them, but really, this one was probably my second favorite (right after A Convenient Groom) of her books. Denise has been writing for decades and she never fails to deliver the best romance–and they are always a clean read.

  • Richly drawn characters and a great story will have you enjoying this book from beginning to the end. I look forward to other installments in this series.

  • This book completely drew me in. I didn’t feel as if I knew the characters, I felt like I WAS a character. Right in the middle of the story I sat, acting it out along with Daniel, Jade, Madison and PJ. The scenes were just that real and the story came to life on the page. Daniel and Jade’s relationship, even though he loved her in secret, had a dream-like quality and it was so great to watch it develop. The passionate scenes were sizzling but not inappropriate. The perfect balance in a Christian novel. And the storyline was perfect from beginning to end. I loved that both Jade and Daniel played guitar and that Daniel wanted to play for the babies while Jade was pregnant. (Sigh!) This guy causes episodes of swooning so read with caution! This was my very first book by Denise Hunter and it’s left me asking where she has been all my life. It was just THAT GOOD! I enjoyed it so much and I was smiling long after I finished reading it. Dancing With Fireflies is book two in the Chapel Springs Romance series and it can definitely be read as a stand alone but, once you read it, you’ll want to go back and read book one. I know I do. If you love contemporary romance and love books by Anita Higman and Julie Lessman (sizzle!) you’ll love this book. I very highly recommend it!

  • By The Book says:

Dancing with Fireflies is the second book in Denise Hunter’s Chapel Springs Romance series. While it can be read as a standalone novel, characters from book 1, Barefoot Summer make a reprise appearance. It is again a sweet, contemporary romance with an endearing heroine and a very hunky hero. Difficult subjects are handled gently and the sparks fly in the relationship. A good pick for a lazy weekend, especially if you are going to spend it at the lake or beach.

  • Denise Hunter has once again created endearing characters and a captivating story that both delights and inspires… One of the best contemporary romance novels I’ve read this year, Dancing with Fireflies is a must for your spring reading list.

  • I’ve got a new favorite Denise Hunter book.

It’s those strong feelings that pave the way for a sweet, strong story. Hunter doesn’t focus on the pain of the past but the strength of the present to reach for future’s hope. It’s the acknowledgement of the pain that lends credence to the growth of the character and of the storyline, and therein lies the very best part of the story: the stretching of maturity, the sacrifice of love, and the melding of individuals into a couple – and a family.

Stories of healing and hope are among my favorites, but when the characters don’t just survive the trauma but grow through it, that’s the very best scenario ever – because in real life, isn’t that exactly what Jesus asks of us?

  • Denise’s writings bring the characters and settings to life through her vivid imagery. Concise, but fully developed plot keeps me reading and turning those pages rapidly.

  • I have to say that I was actually giddy reading this book. I was giggling like a little school girl in many places and clapping my hands as I cheered on the budding romance between Jade and Daniel. There were a few times that I wanted to smack them because they were not communicating with each other very well, but then I thought about my own life and how realistic their reactions really were in the story and decided to cut them a little slack. After all, moving from life-long friends to dating is a HUGE step!

I also liked the fact that Ms. Hunter did not shy away from the hard topics of date rape drugs, unplanned/unwanted pregnancies, homelessness, and single-parenting. While many stories do not have happy endings, I’m glad that everything worked out well for both characters. Love it!

  • Denise Hunter writes with such emotion and depth that you feel a part of the family as you read this book.
I highly recommend it and can’t wait to read the next book!

  • I like a variety of books from mysteries to romance to wacky dystopian stories depending on my mood. I really enjoy the characters and the romance in Dancing with Fireflies. Jade and Daniel were a sweet couple and it was nice to see them grow together. Their families were kind and it was a relaxing read. It is a mostly happy book but you will feel all the emotions that Jade and Daniel feel as their relationship evolves. The author is very skilled at weaving the whole story together.

  • Buzz4Mommies says:

Dancing with Fireflies not only had inspiring themes but was touchingly romantic. The chemistry was electric in this book you could almost feel a tingle. The way the author writes the romantic scenes is amazing. She has this way to make it sweet and full of chemistry at the same time! I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next, she really kept me on my toes. I stayed up quite late one night because I just had to finish it!

I think so may readers would enjoy this book and I highly recommend it!!

  • DENISE HUNTER has a singular talent. The opening chapter of Dancing With Fireflies shows an incredibly tragic scene and it does it so well.

I don’t know of another author who would have been able to do what Denise Hunter did with that scene. It was written exceptionally well.

And that alone makes this a wonderful book.

  • The author, Denise Hunter has once again written a story of faith and love that I could not put down until I finished reading every page until I finished it. It is a wonderful inspirational romance.

  • Such a brilliant title that really describes the main character, Jade. This a great romance novel. I would say it’s one of the best I’ve read this year. Main character Jade is a bit complicated and full of fears, especially the unknown. Even though my own personal experiences cannot relate to hers, I was able to relate to her emotions through her struggles, which only speaks volumes to Denise’s relatable and endearing characters in her writings. Dancing with Fireflies has an interesting and easy to read plot that is realistic and relatable.

  • If I were to sum this whole book into one sentence it would be:

What Satan intends for evil, God can use for good.

Jade McKinley is full of dreams. Dreams of singing her songs and playing her guitar for others. And, just as in reality, life doesn’t always turn out the way we plan, hope, or wish. Sometimes terrible things happen and we must trust that God knows what He’s doing and rely on Him to help us through those difficult times.

Watching Jade and Daniel grow together to learn and let go of the past and embrace their future was encouraging and uplifting.

  • I always enjoy Denise Hunter’s books and this one is no exception. She finds a way to tell Jade and Daniel’s story so anyone can relate even if you haven’t been in their exact shoes. People don’t often comment on the cover or title of the book but in this case I want to take the time to say how much I love both. If you’ve ever spent a summer night running around catching fireflies and taken a moment to appreciate how beautiful a night like that can be then you can’t help but love the title and cover chosen for this book. Then you read this amazing story and it’s impossible to find anything short of wonderful!

  • Draw me into a book whose characters I love, and I’ll be a fan forever. I will read every single book about those characters because I just can’t get enough!! Examples: Harry Potter, Anne of Green Gables, Twilight, Divergent, Hunger Games, and now the Chapel Springs Romance Series. There are some tough issues to tackle in Dancing with Fireflies. It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, but Denise Hunter doesn’t shirk away from her responsibility to bring these subjects to light. It’s a Christian novel but not overly so. The Christian undertones are gentle enough that they become part of the healing process, not a burden on the reader. THIS is the book you need to take to the beach on spring break. THIS is the book to give your secret pal. THIS is the book you need to read in 2014!!

  • 5 stars for this heartwarming beautiful light romance! Superbly written, certain romantic scenes handled well though this author goes further than most christian writers. Love the ending, these two characters are loveable and the storyline is one of sweet conflict.

  • An irresistible, endearing story!
I could hardly put this one down! What a lovely, lovely, story. Dancing with Fireflies greatly exceeded all my expectations. I loved it. Absolutely brilliant! Hunter’s characters jump off the page, feeling as real as you or me. This trait is important to me as a reader and Hunter executes it wonderfully. I thought I liked Barefoot Summer well enough, but Dancing with Fireflies takes number one slot for the series so far. It will be hard for me to like The Wishing Season (coming Winter ’14!) better than this one.

  • Because of its whimsical title and gorgeous cover art, the reader would probably expect “Dancing With Fireflies” to be just one more sweet and syrupy romance novel. Actually the story does include a sweet romance but there is much more substance to this book than its cover might suggest.

  • Denise Hunter has masterfully created a wonderful story of love, hope, faith and forgiveness. Her characters, Jade McKinley and Daniel Dawson, are so well written they practically walk right off the written page into the reader’s heart.

  • Denise has done a good job with bringing “real life” subjects into the lives of her characters that will touch the hearts of her readers. Her story will pull you in and keep you reading until the very end.

  • I absolutely loved this book! It was the perfect sequel to Barefoot Summer and even periodically mentions Madison and Beckett, which I love. This was one of those books that I had trouble putting down, because it was just that good! I read it in a matter of two nights! I have become a huge fan of Denise Hunter since reading the first book in the Chapel Springs series. I think of her as somewhat of a Christian Nicholas Sparks. She writes amazing, page-turning, glue-you-to-the-seat books but without a hint of inappropriate content.

  • Dancing With Fireflies by Denise Hunter was an amazing book. This book was hard for me to get into but I am glad that I stuck it out because after few chapters I didn’t want to put it down.

  • This was not an easy book to read, nor and easy review to write. Dancing with Fireflies carries a mature theme, with plenty of mixed emotions, with heart-wrenching choices, yet glimmers of hope shine through.
The characters are well developed, and I felt like I got to know them and what made them tick, as well as the fears that haunted them. There was good dialogue between Daniel and Jade, which I thought was done very realistically with texting, etc.
Overall, this was kind of a hard book to read, with all that was going on, nothing seemed to be going right. But I did end up enjoying the book, through it all. A great emotional read.

  • Dancing with Fireflies is in the running for my favorite book of 2014. I read it in one sitting, Jade and Daniel captivated me that deeply. Denise Hunter dealt so gracefully with tough topics. A physical assault resulting in a pregnancy. An unmarried woman expecting a child. Jade was well-developed and her fears were real. Even to trust someone as dependable as Daniel.

Daniel is a hero to swoon over. He cares about his community. He’s loyal. He’s always there. Romantic? Oh, so romantic. But he doesn’t feel safe telling Jade he’s loved her for years.

This is a beautiful romance wrought with conflict. Like I said, so well-crafted I kept turning the pages to learn what was next. I strongly encourage you to pick up Dancing with Fireflies.

  • Whenever I see the name Denise Hunter on a book, I get prepared for a great romance! Dancing with Fireflies was a perfect addition to her collection and it was a great read from start to finish!

I love that this book is a great reminder that God is always in control even when it doesn’t feel like anything is going right. HE has an amazing plan for our lives and we must trust him! That is what Jade learned in this book and that is what I was reminded of while reading!

I highly recommend if you love contemporary Christian & romance fiction!

  • I love this author. I have read all her other books, and have just devoured them! Hunter brings you right into the story, and makes you really connect with the characters! I love the character of Jade. She is so vibrant and real. This is a great story, and I can not wait to read more about the McKinley family!

  • I really liked the style in which the story was written. The focus on character development is around the two primary characters, with those around them developed mostly to help further define the main characters. The book jumps right into the story, using reflection and conversations to help the reader ‘catch up’ on the background, history and the different relationships.

I love how their relationship evolves. As an outsider, it certainly seems obvious how each feels and Daniel certainly knows what his feelings are but Jade slowly comes to realize the love is more than that of a sibling or friend. This helps make it feel more real and the story more believable.

I really enjoyed reading this book and was able to read it in a relatively short window.

  • Veronica's 'Views says:

I absolutely loved this book! The characters came alive and Daniel, especially, was wonderful. He had such an honorable way about him, but very human. The romance was wonderful, but does get a bit passionate, so it’s probably more appropriate for older teenagers and up.

  • As you can see from the plot, this is a romance novel, so you can expect a happily ever after at the end, but the fun is figuring out how the two main characters will get together. Which isn’t an easy thing, as Jade has been hurt in the past and isn’t exactly looking for love. Author Denise Hunter does a good job ignoring all the romantic cliches and creates and interesting story that will readers will enjoy.

  • I finished reading this book a week ago, but I wanted to wait to write the review. Why? Because I was afraid I would gush too much if I wrote the review right away. Well, I think I’m still going to gush, even with a week’s perspective …

Dancing with Fireflies is the second (sort of third, as there’s a novella about secondary characters) installment in Denise Hunter’s Chapel Springs series. It’s the story of Jade, the McKinley family free spirit, and Daniel, Chapel Springs mayor and honorary McKinley. These two characters are incredibly likable, and I actually thought at one point as I was reading, “Lord, I need a Daniel.”

As I got close to the end, I actually contemplated putting the book down for a while … simply because I wasn’t ready for the story to end!

  • This has to be one of Denise Hunters most potent stories that she has written as I found myself caught up in the life of her character, Jade McKinley, a strong but head strong woman who returns home with secrets, one that is growing and will soon be exposed in her small town life. In the process, Jade finds herself not only struggling to NOT fall in love but learning the power of forgiveness and redemption that she doesn’t think is possible.

It was the approach that Denise Hunter made to these themes that makes this a book that shows not only respect for an otherwise sensitive topic but also shows her skill in not making light of the topic that forms the background of Jades history.
All these combined have made for an impressive story that readers will find themselves still talking about

  • In this second book of the Chapel Springs series, Denise gives us a closer look at the McKinley family and the relationship between Daniel and Jade. Daniel makes Jade want to dance again.
Denise is one of my favorite romance authors. I don’t need to read the synopsis of the book to know that I am going to love it. While this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone, however I recommend that you read book one Barefoot Summer.

  • Denise Hunter has crafted a wonderfully memorable tale in Dancing With Fireflies!
Jade and Daniel are such unforgettable characters, their story will take your heart to the limits.
The author gracefully handles some very difficult topics here, in a way that draws the reader in.
To me, this is a story of coming home, a story of hope and of course, love.
One of my faves this year!!!

  • I’ve been enjoying The Chapel Springs Romance Series, and am looking forward to The Wishing Season. Thank you, Ms Hunter for taking us on a trip to Chapel Springs.

  • Up until the last couple of years, I will admit, I stuck solely to historical fiction. I don’t know why I never read any contemporary fiction, but I could just kick myself now for having waited so long to dive into this genre, but I’m glad I’m reading it now. Especially after reading Dancing with Fireflies by Denise Hunter. This was a story I couldn’t put down. In one evening, the book was consumed.

  • DANCING WITH FIREFLIES is the second book in the Chapel Springs Romance series, but it easily stands alone. Fans will want to read book one, Barefoot Summer to learn the story of Jade’s sister, and what caused Jade to run away, but if you don’t read it first, you won’t be lost.

  • I like how Denise Hunter doesn’t decorate her prose with anything fancy. Instead, she gets straight to the heart of the story–and in her hands, that’s a delightful place to be. Her characters are winsome, her settings charming. I find her dialogue to be particularly pitch-perfect: snappy and real and sometimes funny–but not too funny, enhancing without distracting. It doesn’t get in the way of the story. (There was one line, especially, that kept me smiling for days.)

  • I absolutely love Denise Hunter’s books and Dancing with Fireflies is at the top of the list!

  • Denise Hunter keeps writing these amazing stories that I am unable to set aside. It did not take me very long to read this book. It had heartache, trials and tribulation, reconciliation, blossoming love, and a family that loved beyond all expectation. It had me needing to grab a tissue one page and then laughing the next. I loved the fact that Jade’s family loved unconditional. Then on the other hand Daniel’s family was not nurturing at all except for his grandmother that raised him with love.

Keep the stories coming Denise I can’t wait to read what you have brewing in your head as it all comes together for us greedy readers to enjoy.

    I highly recommend this book.

  • Dancing with Fireflies by Denise Hunter is an engaging and heartwarming novel. The characters are well-developed and appealing. The storyline has plenty depth and the relationship between Jade and Daniel is believable. A lovely faith-based romance that I highly recommend.

  • I was hooked on this book from the very beginning. I hated the opening because I felt so bad for Jade. However, I love that this topic was written about in a fiction book. I think so may times fiction books are used to help minister to people, just as much as a nonfiction book on this topic.

I admired Jade and Daniel throughout this book. I even liked Jade’s parents and their gracious response to Jade’s life-changing news. I’m not certain I would have responded the same way as Jade did by keeping it secret, but it didn’t make me respect her any less.

  • I really enjoyed this sweet romance. My heart hurt for Jade, pregnant and feeling lost and alone. The story was hard to put down, and I enjoyed Denise Hunter’s style of writing. There was a general theme throughout the book of being lost and finding your way home, and letting God be in control.

  • All Meant To Shine says:

The cover and title of this book were so appealing to me. The beginning of the book also drags you in. It starts out with a sad, awful situation that makes you want to read more. The story line is wonderful and the characters are inspiring. This is the second book in Hunter’s Chapel Springs series. I have not read the first one, but now I might. You do not need to have read the first. I was not confused by anything that went on in this story. This is an enjoyable read and I definitely recommend it.

  • This book have several twists and turns that leave you really wanting to finish this in one sitting. I finished it in a day because I was so hook! I would recommend for an adult audience and someone who enjoys a love story because that is the underlying theme in this book.

  • Another wonderful story from Denise Hunter! I am totally loving the Chapel Springs series and I can’t tell you how much I liked this one. Jade is such a great heroine and Daniel is the sweetest guy. Only problem now is waiting for the next one:(

  • Dancing with Fireflies is truly wonderful. It has drama (the first chapter caught me off guard!), secrets, tragedy, romance, the dearest family, a handsome hero (my absolute fave!), an independent leading lady (who truly needs rescuing), lots of humor (the Lamaze class was classic!) and heartwarming flashbacks that have you rooting for Jade and Daniel all the way through the book. Jade is quirky in a delightfully disarming way. Whether it’s secretly living in her mom’s shop, getting accidentally locked in a closet all night with Daniel, or texting innocently (?) flirtatious messages to him- she is always memorable.:) The McKinley family is no stranger to tragedy but their faith in God is the glue that holds them together. I’m really anxious to see who Denise Hunter writes about next!

  • I’m a new reader to the Chapel Hill series, having not read the first one. This one was definitely able to stand alone, though I now want to go back and read the first one! This book had some depth to the characters and storyline that surprised me. Although faith is integral to the plot, it is not heavy-handed and I think all romance readers would enjoy this book. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

  • This book is an easy read, it is fun and it is uncomplicated.

  • The story line peaked my interest, so I was excited when my copy arrived. If you enjoy traditional Christian fiction that deals with “tough” topics, I think you would enjoy it too.

Back in her hometown after a series of disappointments, Jade find herself pregnant and homeless. Finding a way to survive by living inside her mothers business and taking on a coffee shop job, she learns to stand on her own. Yet, with her due date quickly approaching, she’s convinced she needs to find a husband and fast. The only problem? She has no desire to find true love.

So begins a riveting tale that deals with issues of date rape, forgiving others, and dealing with grief over the loss of loved ones. I highly recommend it!

  • I LOVED this book! Loved it!!! I couldn’t put it down. It pulled me right in from the beginning and never let me go!

…These are the books I always love and can re-read, the ones that pull these strong emotions from me, where I am 100% cheering on the characters and anticipating that happily-ever-after ending.

  • Genuine Jenn says:

There are some books that just hook you from the beginning and you can’t put it down until you are finished reading it, this was that kind of book. I was hooked from the beginning. This is the second book I have read by Denise Hunter and love her style. The characters are very easy to get to know and very likeable. I felt as through I was walking a long with Jade through her journey from a horrible experience to the love of her life.

You can read my full review on my blog Genuine Jenn

  • A great story! I really love the way Denise writes! She adds a humor that really brings her story to life!…Every time I thought there couldn’t possibly be more surprises she threw in another one!!!…Overall this is an awesome story of God taking horrific circumstances and making blessings spring forth! I highly recommend it!…

  • Again, another great book by Denise Hunter! This is a book that I will read again and again. I have already recommended it to several friends! Great book! Could not put it down! I think the hardest think about the whole book is waiting for the next book in this series! Well done, Denise! Great love story! The character development was wonderful! Loved Jade and Daniel! Great story line. Can’t wait to read the next one in the series..

  • If you are a woman who is about to embark on your first date with someone – always trust your gut. That’s the lesson that countless women – including Jade McKinley – have learned from personal experience.

Dancing With Fireflies by Denise Hunter is a remarkable book that revolves around some difficult themes, but addresses them with sensitivity and ease.

The book explores complex relationships and human frailties that exist and come to light under difficult circumstances.

I enjoyed how the story transpired – both the highs and the lows – and felt it was very true-to-life.

The plot of Dancing With Fireflies is filled with twists that will satisfy and characters you’ll love.

God is ever-present but never over-bearing in this book.

Highly recommended for fans of Christian romance!

  • Jade had a broken heart at a young age so she thought she could further protect herself by not allowing herself to love a man again. It can be very difficult to give someone your heart and then have it broken. This was a great story about how Jade’s faith was like seed planted on rocky ground, we all need to have a deep rooted faith to get us past life’s difficult times. I can relate to how Jade reacts because I tend to turn away from the people to protect myself due to issues in my past.

  • I REALLY enjoyed this book. It really pulled me in and made me feel a range of emotions.

Jade leaves home to make a new life after she loses the love of her life. She just needs a clean break… so she moves to the big city and gets a job and apartment with a friend. After only a short time in the city, she heads home broken, alone and pregnant.

Throughout the book, I hoped for a happy ending for Jade. She’s been through so much and deserves a happy ending, even if she doesn’t believe it herself. Can Mayor Daniel Dawson help her find that happy ending? Can he find the love he’s been looking for these many years standing on the sidelines of Jade’s life?

This book is a story of harsh reality, hope and love. It’s a wonderful read… a beautiful story.

  • More Of Him says:

I really enjoyed this book and I think you will, too. It’s a wonderful story that will allow you to escape and would make a great beach book! I had a hard time putting it down. I give it a 5 out of 5 stars.

  • I’ve read a couple of Hunter’s books before, and I like them because she knows how to keep the reader interested in the story throughout the book. But not in an infuriating, you-want-to-shake-the-main-characters kind of way, more in a I-have-to-keep-reading-to-see-what-happens type of way. This book was no exception, and I didn’t want to put it down! The characters were likable, and not too perfect, and the story was interesting. . .

Note: I received a copy of this book for free from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for this review – this is my honest opinion.

  • I am so addicted to the fictional town of Chapel Springs she has created as well as the small town feel you gain from the people that they interact with. Now on pins and needles to see just where the third novel will wind up but sooooo looking forward to it! Hands down it gains my Ahhh! romance factor and easily gets a 5 out of 5 stars!

  • If you’ve never read a book by Denise Hunter just know that when she writes romance and tension, she does it with a skill I am deeply in awe of. The stories have vibrant settings, interesting minor characters…. and they ALWAYS deliver in the edge-of-your-seat department concerning the emotional breakthroughs that the main characters go through.

  • A Book Lover says:

The plot was well written and interesting. The author also did a good job capturing the town. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. Recommended.

  • This story was about family ties. The ones that are important, how they play out, and how they can be broken and healed again. And family doesn’t always have to be blood relations, it’s more about how you care for the people in your life.

  • the ramblings of miss aimymichelle says:

Denise Hunter is one of my very favorite authors. her books are always so easy to read and have such a nice flow to them. this one wasn’t any different. i was excited to dive into this and see if the characters were the same or were different.

  • If you are looking for an inspirational journey, open this book, begin reading chapter one and your adventure will begin. Do NOT expect to be able to put this book down to eat, do daily tasks, or sleep!! Your world becomes the picturesque town of Chapel Spring and your family becomes the McKinley clan. This compelling tale will keep you so totally involved that the world will just go on around you.

  • Really, with such sensitive subjects within this book, I’m amazed that Hunter was still able to create such a lovely, sweet story. We get moments of darkness as Jade remembers past events or struggles through judgement. She’s left homeless and jobless at one point, but she pushes through it all.

  • Mommy Has to Work says:

Dancing with Fireflies by Denise Hunter was a wonderful read! It was a light romance with no mushy stuff, no mystery just a good old-fashioned novel. I really loved how the character were brought to life and interacted with each other. I could see this as a wonderful movie as well.

  • This is a well written and moving romance about being willing to love again.

  • An emotionally charged novel. Touched on so many topics that will leave you crying, laughing and moved by the end of the novel. A must read!

  • I have always enjoyed Denise Hunter’s writing, she writes a great story, and Dancing with Fireflies brought back memories of my own dancing with fireflies…only we called them lightening bugs!

  • “Dancing With Fireflies” is a sweet romance that has the best characters of Jade and Daniel in it. I liked it and look forward to the next visit with the McKinley family.

  • When Jade is a victim to a traumatic event at the opening of Dancing with Fireflies, it is quite the unexpected start to the novel; at least for this reader. What is even more unexpected is the way the issue is dealt with. Denise Hunter has the ability to take a dark and ugly issue and deal with it in a delicate yet poignant manner.

  • This is the first of Denise’s books that I’ve read – and from the standpoint of characterization, plot, writing, and romantic theme, I loved it. To put it simply, Denise knows how to write romance that captures the reader’s emotions and keeps you turning the pages. Maybe I’m reading more into this than Denise intended, but I even think the title alludes to the spiritual. Dancing with Fireflies made me look back to a time of innocence and joy that was Jade before difficult circumstances tore away that joy, and then look forward to the restoration that is possible for all of us through Christ.

  • HOLY MOLY!! To say this book is amazing is an understatement !! I LOVED this book and absolutely could NOT put it down!! I actually picked it up just to see what it was about and began reading just a little bit and before I knew it I was HOOKED! 🙂

  • For anyone looking to read a contemporary Christian novel, Denise Hunter is one of the go-to authors. She pens a strong cast of characters that pull you in with each new page and yet leaves you wanting more at the end.

  • It’s a really good thing I began this book on a slow day at home, because once I started it I had a very hard time setting it aside. Jade’s story is just that engaging. She’s a colorful, passionate person. She has big dreams and bright eyes that are so green “God must have invented the shade just for her.”
When people meet Jade, they remember her.

  • When I started reading this book, I was drawn in. I immediately liked Jade. She is a tough Christian girl and to deal with all that she has had to deal with in her life — well — let’s just say, she is a much stronger person that I think I ever could be.

As soon as we meet her, we find out a lot of things about her past and present. Because of these things, she decides to go home — and then we meet Daniel. Their story had me flipping page after page. I just could not put this book down.

I cheered for them. I cried for them. My heart ached, and then it rejoiced. To me, there is nothing like a long lost love.

Denise Hunter has always been a favorite author of mine. Her stories always leave me with hope and the feeling that love conquers all.

This story is amazing — from beginning to end —

  • This book was sooo romantic! The kind that gives you goosies from the roots of your hair to the tips of your toenails, and brings tears to your eyes at the same time. It was a very sweet story and more than a few times I think I said “awwww” out loud.

Absolutely wonderful and very likeable, believable characters. I loved Jade, what a sweet, afraid but brave young woman. And, Daniel – what a sweetheart he was, the perfect knight in shining armor! I loved how this relationship slowly developed. This story certainly had all the makings of a great romance.

  • WORD Up! says:

This is a beautiful love story. I did get a bit frustrated with the characters as they denied their feelings and talked themselves out of being honest with each other, which is a fairly predictable way to create tension in a romance novel. But Denise Hunter has a way of writing a very satisfying romantic story in spite of those things. She takes the reader to the brink of that frustration and then rewards the reader for her persistence to turn pages with delicious moments. This is the second Chapel Springs romance, but “Dancing with Fireflies” reads well as a stand-alone novel.

  • I loved that Daniel was such a good guy. Jade had so many problems and was trying so hard to just take care of everything herself that it was great to have Daniel there. Daniel was being groomed for other things but the fact that he’d been in love with Jade since they were younger was a good addition. I love that God was woven through the story and that the author handled some really delicate subjects with great care. I will absolutely be reading more from this author!

  • This book was definitely worth reading. You will wish you were a part of the McKinley family, attending the weekly family meal, having girl’s nights in or out with the McKinley sisters and enjoying life in beautiful, close knit Chapel Springs. The take-away for me is the importance of honest communication in relationships.

  • The IE Mommy says:

I was immediately captivated by this story, only this one had a darker plot than her last and I was drawn in for completely different reasons. Hunter is genius at creating characters that you immediately relate to and want to know more about.

Denise Hunter has quickly risen to the top of my favorite authors for her incredible writing, deep characters and original plots that have me quickly turning pages and investing in her story. I liked Dancing With Fireflies, the second in the Chapel Springs Romance, even more than Barefoot Summer and can’t wait to see what she tops it with next!

  • From the first couple pages my attention was snagged and from then on I didn’t want to stop reading – it was just SO good! Something major happens in the prologue of Dancing With Fireflies that made me feel for Jade and, as the story continued, I couldn’t help but start to feel for Daniel, too. He seemed like such a great guy, in spite of the things that slightly frustrated me (they just made him human and not so perfect). 😉

  • This is a super sweet read. And by sweet I do mean sweet. Dancing with Fireflies is such a wonderful little love story/coming of age/the love that was always there that you never really noticed before. It’s a quick read as well. One of those cuddle up on a comfy chair on a rainy day and just read away until you’re done type read. Will Jade learn to love and let go? Or will she forever feel alone and lost even around those that love her? Great read. Awesome author. Reminds you a bit of the prodigal story but with a twist of course. I’m going to have to look up some more by this author for more Chapel Springs books.

  • What is there to say about Dancing With Fireflies that isn’t trivial in comparison to Denise Hunter’s writing? Denise Hunter’s writing has always touched me, made me cry, laugh, get angry, and just really feel. Dancing With Fireflies brought me to new levels of feeling. A completely new depth of getting involved in a novel and living it right along with the characters. I was blown away in the best way possible.

  • If you are looking for a book that will have you up late into the night reading because you are cheering on the primary characters, this is the book for you! It is so well written and I LOVED every chapter and experience in it! Denise Hunter is one of my favorite authors of the last number of years and with each book of her’s that I read, I become more and more impressed! Dancing with Fireflies was no exception! It is a second book in a series but also works well as a stand-alone novel as well (although, I do prefer to read a series in its order). I was taken in from the first pages and this book will definitely be on my top books of 2014 for certain!!! It truly was that good.
I highly recommend this book and give it a thumbs up!

  • If you enjoy a good clean romantic book, then I highly recommend Dancing with Fireflies. Even though Jade saw Daniel as only a brother, his thoughts were different, and I enjoyed the twists and turns happening in this story to try and pull them together. These characters are so very good! As you follow these two characters, you will be drawn into the story with them, experiencing all of the tensions and difficulties as well.

  • Denise Hunter has created a great story that has you rooting for the main couple to get together. She has also written an amazing story about forgiveness and embracing the life handed to you. I will definitely be looking for more of the McKinley’s family stories.

  • I love it when I come across a book that I can’t put down. Such was the case with “Dancing with Fireflies” by Denise Hunter. I was a little wary when I found out it is part of a series, but trust me, that does not matter.

The story focuses on Jade McKinley, who returns home after she’s ventured out on her own, but she returns single and pregnant, which is not something she wants to share with her family. Enter Daniel Dawson, someone who has been more like a brother to Jade than anything else. Not from his end though – he’s always been in love with Jade.

  • I loved this book and had a really hard time putting it down. Hunter has done a superb job of crafting a story that gets you personally invested in the main character’s lives, rooting for the two to come together as a couple, hurting with them as they deal with different issues. The characters feel real, and to me that’s always the mark of a well-written story.

  • I loved the book, “Dancing with Fireflies” by Denise Hunter. The story begins with Jade McKinley in Chicago, where she has been for a year trying to make a go of her music and trying to forget the death of her one true love. She shares an apartment with a friend, but her dreams have not come true. After a disastrous date she finds herself back home in Indiana desperately needing help. She goes to the one person she trusts who isn’t part of her actual family.

I loved this story. It was a down home, sweet and tender. I had a feel-happy feeling after reading this novel and that always tells me that the book was really good.
