If I Run

If I Run

If I Run (Zondervan, February 2016)

Casey knows the truth. But it won’t set her free.

Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to police; they have failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore.

But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren’t adding up. Casey Cox doesn’t fit the profile of a killer. But are Dylan’s skewed perceptions keeping him from being objective? If she isn’t guilty, why did she run?

Unraveling her past and the evidence that condemns her will take more time than he has, but as Dylan’s damaged soul intersects with hers, he is faced with two choices. The girl who occupies his every thought is a psychopathic killer . . . or a selfless hero. And the truth could be the most deadly weapon yet.

  • Terry Blackstock’s latest book, If I Run, excites and inspires.

Terri Blackstock is my all time Christian-suspense author, and she did not let me down this time. If I Run is tightly written and keeps the reader on the edge of her seat with each turn of the page.

  • Page one grabbed me by the collar and wouldn’t let go until my eyes gave out from exhaustion. The twists and turns leave you feeling like you’ve been on a roller coaster without leaving your seat. I was glued to the pages and couldn’t read fast enough–the action was THAT intense!

Part of me wonders if I could have even lasted as long as the main character, or if I would have just given up and hoped for the best with the police. I’d like to think I have the street smarts to last and follow in her footsteps, but in reality, I would have just curled up in a little ball and cried until someone found me.

If you’re looking for high action and suspense around every corner, you need to pick up this book! Seriously–it’s amazing!

  • I love a novel that’s a great story with suspense and Blackstock has given us a winner. The characters are great, flawed but growing. Even the secondary characters are done well. I like how the history behind the current murder is revealed as the investigation develops. And we are left after the novel ending suspense, waiting for the sequel. I’m ready for it now!

  • If I Run is fascinating, fast-paced suspense. It is written in first-person, present tense, alternating between Casey’s and Dylan’s point of view. While this perspective took a bit to get used to, once I did, I felt like I was right there with Casey and Dylan, experiencing the action as they did.

I’ve never before read a book quite like If I Run, which is suspenseful without being grisly. I highly recommend it!

  • If I Run by Terri Blackstock was another great suspense/thriller novel. This is the 4th book I have read by this author, and I am starting to think that she can’t write a bad book. I always get sucked into the books from the first chapter right up through the end of the book.

  • Wow, wow, wow! Terri Blackstock does it again! A superb thriller that literally had my heart racing and my pulse rising.
Terri Blackstock tackles PTSD with sensitivity. She reveals that God shaped hole that needs filling.
Casey battles pure evil. Terri Blackstock shows that life is so much more than what we can see. Life is a spiritual battle for our souls.
Exciting, thrilling, nail biting action that will keep you guessing, and a good dose of faith.
Terri Blackstock is an amazing writer.

  • Exciting! Terrifying! Spellbinding!

  • Terri Blackstock is one of the premiere Christian suspense authors, and If I Run is yet another reason why. Blackstock wastes no time in plunging the reader into the story with a chilling and pulse-pounding opening, and the tension remains high throughout the book. . . .Complex characters populate this action-packed suspense that is impossible to put down.

  • Moments says:

Terri’s latest book is a must-read for suspense fans! Seriously, I did not want to stop reading once I started! Casey is on the run and fleeing from a crime scene, one that she stumbled upon, but is being accused of and by running she is making herself look even more guilty.

  • I’m a long time reader of Terri Blackstock’s work and IF I RUN takes a new direction. Written in first person present tense, it’s high on suspense and full of twist and turns. The point of view takes a little getting used to, but it truly builds the suspense.

If you like a true thrill ride where you can’t figure out the ending, give IF I RUN a try. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Terri Blackstock shares her thoughts about IF I RUN. Watch it here.

  • Tima Murrell says:

The book started off with a gripping scene that pulled you right into the story. It’s suspenseful, high drama, and a little bit of faith woven together to create an outstanding plot that will keep you reading. The characters are well developed and the writer has you rooting for the flawed, but likable runaway. I was unaware that this was the first book in a series. So I was completely shocked at the ending. It definitely leaves room for the sequel to pick up and run with the rest of the story. If you like suspense with a Christian element then you’ll love the newest book by this famous author.

  • I love Terri Blackstock’s books, and If I Run is no exception, although the ending did leave me with hope of another book.
What would you do if you entered your friend’s home and saw him covered in blood? A knife protruding from him? Probably the same as Casey did, she tried to give him CPR, checked his pulse, pulled out the knife, and tracked her shoe prints all over the crime scene. Of course, she left her DNA there, and took the knife with her.
Once you pick this book up you won’t want to put it down until the last page is turned, and then you will be looking and hoping soon for another book, don’t miss this, you won’t regret it!

  • This was my first Terri Blackstock novel but it won’t be my last!

    This was an amazing read!

  • : I love a good mystery, and this one was just that! The story starts off at a fast pace, with Casey on the run for a crime the reader doesn’t totally comprehend. As she outsmarts the cops and the story of how her best friend wound up dead comes out, the reader is sucked in all the more. While this book is the first in a series and Casey’s story is not concluded (which, is really just cruel!), I like that some loose ends are tied together by the end. Just enough to satisfy and leave me wishing the next book would just be out already.;)
If you are looking for an interesting mystery, then I highly recommend this one!
I received this book from Lit Fuse in exchange for my honest review.

  • Fans of TV shows like Alias (one of my favorites!) and CSI will devour If I Run. It has that scientific, analytical brain with the heart of a Lifetime channel movie. The main character, Casey, charms and puzzles at the same time. The best part of this book was the fact that it’s so convoluted, you can’t help but be sucked in. One crisis after another just makes it fascinating. You know those games that show you a close-up view of some random picture, then gradually spans out bigger and bigger until you finally see the whole image? If I Run plays that type of mind game, and it’s thrilling.

  • “If I Run”. Terri Blackstock’s latest novel is scheduled to release on February 14. Fans of action-packed Christian suspense will want to grab a copy as soon as possible, especially if they are already familiar with this author’s previous work. I personally found the story to be fairly unique and engaging. It definitely held my attention throughout and I was actually surprised when I reached its end so quickly.

  • Just when you think you’ve got Terri Blackstock “pegged,” she’ll pull the rug right out from underneath ya!

The writing style and format of IF I RUN is unlike anything I’ve come across . . .but it works! As the story “weaves” its way back and forth between the two main characters, you will find yourself “woven in” as well. And putting the book down after you’ve started reading?

    Good luck with that.

  • There is one thing you can always count on in a Terri Blackstock book — page-turning suspense from beginning to end. And that is just what I found in If I Run! It was a story that I definitely hated to put down when I finally had to give up and go to bed.

The story grabs you from the very beginning at the scene of a murder, inside the mind of the obvious suspect. First person is sometimes a little tricky, but Terri does a great job of developing the story and the all-important back stories from the perspectives of Casey and Dylan, the military veteran who has been hired to find her.

In other words, this is just what you would expect from Terri Blackstock — a five-star story of suspense with a rich undercurrent of faith!

  • This is Book One of a trilogy. It has a bit of a cliff-hanger ending, which left me a little frustrated, as I want to know what happens next! I guess I’ll have to be patient and wait for the next two books to come out.

You sort of come into the middle of the story, with the author giving you the center point (Brent’s murder) first, and then filling in the backstory (Casey’s father’s suspicious death years ago, and it’s impact on their family) as you go along. It’s well done, though, so it feels seamless.

  • I’ve always enjoyed any book written by Terri Blackstock, and If I Run is no different. Blackstock has a way of writing that drags you right into the story and invests you in the lives of the characters. If I Run is one of those stories, captivating and full of action with a mystery that you will be second guessing yourself to the very end.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this story and cannot wait to see the characters return in the next book, the only thing that was a negative for me in this book was how easily things seemed to fall together. This book comes off as a bit too simple and easy with how quickly answers came together. Otherwise, I highly recommend this book, and cannot wait for the continuation of the story.

  • “If I Run” is a Christian suspense novel that opens at the scene of a murder and grabs you right there. Kept me reading through all the twists that I loved. Terri Blackstock knows how to write a “glued to it” book!

  • Best Reads says:

Riveting from the very fist sentence: “There’s blood on the bottom of my shoes.” And I was hooked — totally engaged in Casey’s story. I mean reading If I Run made me so tense I had to consciously unclench my jaw. A lot. I became so absorbed in Casey’s plight that it ceased to be a story.

  • If I Run was an AWESOME read. I was totally glued to this book all the way till the end. And the ending was just as epic. I love, love, love this book and this author. Terri Blackstock knows how to write a mystery and keep you completely entranced.

  • Wow, what a great suspense read!! I love Terri Blackstocks’ writing, she is truly gifted in creating suspense stories that are realistic and intense. The characters in this particular book I really liked and they had such depth but as a reader you weren’t given all the info right away. I like it when authors make it so you don’t have it all figured out. Casey is on the run and we find her right after someone has been murdered. Dylan comes in later in the story and I found him to be smart, but I want to know more about him. It is very fast paced and I’m not sure I set it down once. This book is not tied to any other books she has written so if you are new to this author this is a great book to start on! I will warn you there is a major cliff hanger at the end!!

  • Book by Book says:

Terri Blackstock’s If I Run begins a thrilling new series, as Casey Cox must run from the life she’s known in order to save herself from being accused of a crime she didn’t commit, and Dylan Roberts must track her down. From the very start, this novel offers action and suspense and kept me reading as more and more details became uncovered. I definitely can’t wait to find out what Blackstock has in store for Casey and Dylan and, in the meantime, would have absolutely no problem recommending If I Run to interested readers.

  • Upon reading the very first chapter, I couldn’t put it down.

Blackstock is a master with words; weaving a suspenseful tale of emotional and physical intrigue. I was sympathetic to the plight of Casey from the very first paragraph, my heart yearning for her to find healing–grieving for her tragic past. As the story unfolded, getting to know her more deeply in the layers of her character, I grew to love her more and more…

The story had a perfect pace–fairly, but lingering just enough to be able to take in and ponder the full weight of the true evil facing Dylan and Casey.

  • Have you ever read a book without knowing it was the start of the series? That was me reading If I Run. The ending was so unsatisfying I had to hope it was just a cliffhanger and that there was more to come, because this isn’t a story that’s wrapped up by the final page. This is Terri Blackstock’s new series, about a young woman named Casey who discovers the body of her best friend and just knows the local police will never accept that she’s innocent.

It’s a book I couldn’t put down, which is why I was disappointed it ended how it did. I love that there will be two more books. Will the bad guys catch Casey or can she be exonerated? Will Dylan continue to track her or will he become another target? I can’t wait to find out.

  • Heart-pounding and nail-biting, If I Run is a fast-paced suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat. The first person point of view heightened the drama and sense of urgency, thrusting me into the action of the story. I can’t wait to read the next installment of this exciting series!

  • Terri Blackstock shares a fantastic tale with her readers. Before I share my view of that, I would like to share how her Author’s Note really spoke to my heart. Sometimes we forget that what hurts, bothers, thrills, brings joy to us readers also does the same for authors. I needed a word of encouragement, but not necessarily for the same reasons Terri shares her own need for God’s reminders. However, I needed it none the less. The encouragement she shares says a lot, but for me it was a reminder that what we are going through is temporary, and this isn’t the believer’s home. We as Christians must stand up for what is wrong even knowing there will be backlash; we go through trials that turn our lives every which way but loose.

  • The IE Mommy says:

How could you do this to me Terri Blackstock? I’m on the edge of the cliff just hanging! AHHHHH I didn’t know this was going to be a book that was to be continued! I consumed If I Run in a day and then was left with no resolution. Oh the torture! I’m hoping there is a sequel coming soon and that this isn’t one of those open ended choose your own ending type books!

I read this book in a day because that’s how good it was. It had me hooked from page one. There is nothing more satisfying to me than opening a book and just knowing instantly that it’s going to be great!

  • Terri Blackstock has long been one of my favorite mystery/suspense authors, so I was excited for the opportunity to review the first book in her new series, If I Run. This book grabbed my attention right from the first paragraph, when Casey Cox discovers the body of her murdered friend and immediately goes on the run. You aren’t sure why at first. It sucked me right in….

Note: I received a copy of this book for free from Litfuse Publicity Group. This is my honest opinion.

  • EmpowerMoms says:

The chapters alternate between the two main characters Casey and Dylan sharing the events which I really liked. I felt like it gave the story more depth and insight into the characters and their personal struggles.

This story was very fast paced, thrilling, and suspenseful. I read it in one day because I couldn’t put it down! I had to know what was going to happen to Casey! The story was truly riveting and very well written!

  • Ok, if you read here at my blog, you know I love LOVE mystery and suspense and well. WOWSERS, Terri Blackstock did not disappoint with this story. The flow of the book is great, the suspense will keep you biting your nails, and there are more twists than the knife Casey found twisted into her friend. This was a book you won’t want to put down. So I know it is only the beginning of February, but this is definitely a book to read in 2016. Great suspense and mystery. 5 stars from this reviewer. This book was provided for review purposes only no payment was received for this review.

  • This book is perhaps the best suspense novel I’ve ever read. And I don’t say that lightly. I’ve read a lot of suspense novels. I’ve loved a lot of suspense novels. I will love a lot of suspense novels in the future. But If I Run… there’s just something really special about this one.

If I Run is a stunning thriller that needs to be at the top of your to-read list. Part The Fugitive, part its own identity, it is a masterfully-crafted book that will leave you breathless… and frantically stalking the Googles for any word on a sequel. To quote Dylan Roberts himself, “Casey Cox is smarter than the average fugitive.” And you’re invited to tag along.

  • I can’t believe it! An electrifying suspense thriller that will have you turning the pages before you read the last word! It took me just one evening, and I just had to finish it. I feel extremely sheltered, knowing that If I Run is the very first novel I’ve read of Terri Blackstock. I know, shocking! For this, I must give a shout-out to the cover design team of If I Run. I love it, and it really was the cover that grabbed my attention first.

  • “Accelerating suspense” are two very accurate words that describe this book. From the opening pages you are thrown into the action and challenged to hang on as the story unfolds. The characters are phenomenally developed and the plot line is well designed and well written.

There were a few spots in the middle that could have had the tension increased a little bit because it began to lose my interest, but it recovered quickly and the ending was very well done! This was my first Terri Blackstock novel, although I can almost promise that it will not be my last!

    4 out of 5 stars!

  • This is possibly the best suspense novel I have read in a very long time. From the very first chapter I knew I was hooked and it was going to be a great story. I ended up reading this entire book in one sitting because I could not make myself put it down.

  • Terri Blackstock has written a winning novel, “If I Run”. It is full of suspense and secrets that snare you from the very first chapter. Casey Cox is wanted as a person of interest in the murder of her good friend Brian. Dylan Roberts has been hired by Brian’s parents to find her and bring her to justice. Dylan is not so certain that Casey had anything to do with the murder other than drawing Brian into her own investigation of the supposed suicide of her policeman father a few years back. Tension heats up as you read because you don’t know the good guys from the bad guys. Up until the last page, you are wondering where all this will lead. I was a little disappointed that the story ended as it did, but then again, I am hoping for a sequel.

  • The intertwined narratives of these two characters is unique, and interesting. I have never read a Terri Blackstock novel before, but I am happy that I read If I Run, because it was heart racing, action packed, and intense.

  • Ms. Blackstock has provided us a first-rate mystery. “If I Run” is a wonderful way to begin a series and don’t you just love the title? I think this is Ms. Blackstocks best work yet and Casey and Dylan are the best defined characters ever. Don’t start this book late at night because it will be very difficult to put it down or stop thinking about it. I recommend this book highly and am greatly looking forward to the next book in the series.

  • This is an amazing, fast paced story that is topping many of the suspense books like this I enjoy! I’ve read one other book by Ms. Blackstock and oh my – all fans of suspense gather here and buy If I Run – you will not be disappointed!

  • I absolutely LOVE Terri! Her books always thrill, chill and keep me guessing. If I Run was sooo good I could not stop reading! I LOVED the way this story is told. I love how Terri melds together the lives of the two characters. Can you imagine being wanted for the death of your BF? Wow! This story kept me trying to figure out who was on the side of truth and who was trying to keep the truth from being revealed. If you love well-written suspense, do not miss this! Run to the store and get your copy today!

  • Told through two points of view – Casey Cox and Dylan Roberts, this book is a chase and the pacing keeps up with the feeling of a chase to the end. Casey Cox finds herself at a murder scene and she knows that she will be suspected as the killer, so she runs and fast. Dylan Roberts is hired by the police to go and find her, he has recently left the military and is battling PTSD.

Between these two we get the full story of what really happened and who really murdered their mutual friend and how they can release the truth and have the real killer or killers get punished for their crimes. The thing I liked about the book was its pacing, I was able to read this book in one evening from start to finish because it kept moving along.

  • I absolutely love mystery/suspense/thriller type books This was my first time reading anything from Terri Blackstock, and I will say that I’m glad I read it. The first thing that I noticed is that this book is told in the first person, also it is written in the present tense.

  • I started reading this novel tabula rasa, without any knowledge of the author or even the summary of this book. I wanted to experience it immediately. After four hours of straight reading – interrupted only by my four-month-old child’s cry for milk and diaper changes – I was able to finish it but hungry for more details and looking forward to the sequel.

  • A gripping, thrill-inducing read that will captivate you with brilliant writing and twist upon twist.

A definite recommend from me. I already know it’s going on my top books of 2016. If you love suspense, mystery, intrigue, and just a good story–get this book.

  • The story was so suspenseful. I was reading along and before I knew it I was at 90% already and I silently screamed “Noooo I don’t want it to end!!!” That’s how attached I was to Casey! It was definitely un-put-down-able!

  • Huge Fan of Blackstock!
This was by far Blackstocks best book to date. I love a great mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat and one that is not predictable well that’s is If I run for sure.

Casey and Dylan were great well rounded characters, you are going to want to get to know them.

I can’t wait for the next book in this series, she should not make us wait because the ending of If I Run was oh my goodness, Fantastic. You don’t want to miss this one.

I gave this book 5 stars and I HIGLY recommend this book. I was left breathless!

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher for my honest review.

  • For Starters, this book is completely white knuckling, page gripping, unsolved mystery, suspense included like never before. You’ll just love this book and will stay up WAY to late to finish it trying to solve the mystery. Readers of all genres will loves this story.

  • Wow! If I Run is a book you won’t want to put down. I don’t read a lot of suspense, but I absolutely loved Terri Blackstock’s new book. It had me eagerly flipping pages and then sad when I finished it. I can’t wait for the next one in the series. I highly recommend this book.

  • I must be honest and say I had a really hard time getting into this book. It was slow in the beginning but finally it became intriguing and the pace quickened. I was majorly disappointed that the ending is not an ending but a cliffhanger. Terri Blackstock is known for her cliffhangers but this one was very unsatisfying. I felt really cheated. Obviously, one will have to read the following books in this series to find out what the final analysis is.

Although the story is interesting, I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars because there were too many things that left me wanting in this book.

  • I’ve been reading Terri Blackstock’s edge of the seat novels since the 1990’s and I must say that IF I RUN, her latest tops everything that precedes.

  • IF I RUN has so much going on between a murder, a suicide, a missing teen, and lets not forget a group of dirty cops! All of this and one girl who has lived through the pain of losing her Father at the young age of 12. Casey never believed what they said about her father…not even for a minute. She learned at that young age that sometimes police will fail you and all you thought was true!
As she gets older she is more determined to find the truth. But it’s not just black and white, and as Casey learns, finding that truth could cause serious and maybe deadly harm to those she loves!! Will she Run??
I devoured this book in just hours!

  • I have to say that I have read other books by Blackstock and have just not been able to connect well with them. With that said, I was highly intrigued by the synopsis of this book and wanted to give Blackstock’s writing another chance. I am so very glad I did! If I Run is such a well written book with an intricately woven plot that will run throughout the series of three books.
Blackstock literally drops the reader in the middle of Casey’s life. I was immediately drawn to her character. Blackstock does an exceptional job of giving bits of Casey’s backstory along the way which helps explain some of Casey’s actions and helps readers to understand some of what she is feeling along the way.

  • If I Run is different from most of her novels. As far as I can remember, all or most of her books have been written in the third person point of view. This book is written in the first point of view, bouncing back and forth between the two main characters. That would be my only complaint about the book. I am not a fan of that writing style, and though she pulls it off well; I think the book could have been even better written in her normal writing point of view.

  • By The Book says:

Terri Blackstock is one of my all time favorite authors of suspense fiction. I have been reading her books for years. If I Run is a prime example of why she is a go-to author for me. Wow! Just wow! This book has it all. The action takes off from page one with fresh and intriguing characters taking center stage with a unique first person, present tense voice. I found myself turning the pages faster and faster as I held my breath. The exhale finally came, and I can honestly say this is a 5-star book! Highly recommended!

  • It has been awhile since I’ve read a book by Terri Blackstock whether it’s been awhile or not, she doesn’t miss a beat with suspense, keeping the reader not only on the edge of their seat but also turning pages as fast as they can. Fear and trust led Casey to run, learning to trust will save her life.

The characters were ones you cheered for, and cried with. A great read!

    Highly recommended!

  • If I Run was one of my favorite novels by Terri Blackstock that I have read so far. The story pulled you in from the very beginning and held your attention until the cliffhanger at the end. I was drawn into Casey’s dilemma and her race to stay safe from an unknown killer. The plot was filled with danger, suspense, mystery, but still a touch of hope, love, and trust in God. I liked both of the main characters, Casey and Dylan. I was very impressed by Casey’s determination and street smarts as she attempted to stay off the police’s radar. I was intrigued as I learned more about her character and her desire to both learn more about her father’s death and still help the hurting people that she encountered while on the run….

  • This time I think the author has out done herself. I loved, “If I Run”. I think it’s her best yet. Not only do I think this is her best but, the style of writing is completely different than any of her other books she has written.

Terri thank you for an amazing story-you have outdid yourself. I can’t wait for the next story in this sequel. This book is due to be released on February 18, 2016

  • WORD Up! says:

“If I Run” by Terri Blackstock is a fast-paced suspense read that really drew me in. First, the book got me thinking: “what would I do if this happened to me?” Second, the narrative was so meticulous and detailed and engaging, it actually put me in the place of the characters for every blood-pumping page!

“If I Run” is a wonderful book! Great for some armchair cardio over the weekend. Don’t try to begin the story during the week, because you’ll be too tempted to stay up too late into the night and you may wind up missing work.

  • Fic Gal says:

I really enjoyed the friendship she struck up with Miss Lucy that led her to a town that led to her making a decision that could land her in a world of trouble but do so much good for other people. The ending was done in a way that it could continue but I would be satisfied with this ending although I have to admit I want more and of course I want a proper meeting between Casey and Dylan.

  • If I Run is Terri Blackstock’s newest release and all I can say is WOW!! I have read some of Terri Blackstock’s other books and this one is by far the best! I love a good Suspense/mystery book so her books are right in my wheel house. From the first sentence to the last this book had me at the edge of my seat, guessing what would happen. Terri Blackstock writes with authority on police procedure, investigating, technology, traveling in the U.S. using various modes, and crimes. I found all of the characters well written and definitely having different layers to their personalities. I personally enjoyed Dylan Roberts and Casey Cox. Their characters are broken, trying to make sense of life after both seeing so much tragedy in their lives. I enjoyed the interactions they had with one another and other characters in the book.

  • I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait for the next one to come out. I thought the characters were solid and extremely likable. I enjoyed the plot & story line, I did not want to put this book down. I also appreciate that this is a book I can share with my young adult readers in my house!
Thank you to Terri for veering from her normal to write a superb suspense novel!!

  • When you consider that Terri Blackstock has written dozens of entertaining novels, you may think that I’m making an unreasonable claim that “If I Run” is simply the best Blackstock book I’ve ever read. But I compel you to pick up a copy and argue otherwise!

  • This is one of those books that sticks with ya when you go to bed at night! This is a psychological drama, and then some. Casey’s dad committed suicide when she was 12, or so they say. She never believed this and felt comfort in her best friend Brent, trusting him to tell him the truth of what happened to her father. She ultimately finds Brent dead, and his blood is everywhere. She knows she’s going to be framed for his murder, so she runs. PTSD affected investigator Dylan is charged with finding her, and the more he uncovers the more he begins to see her not as a killer, but as a strong woman incapable of murder. This book is written in first person, which adds to the suspense since we are able to “see” inside the character’s mind. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It was entertaining, active, and kept me turning the pages!

  • The novel starts off with a bang and we never stop moving. We first meet Casey as she is cleaning blood off her tennis shoes and packing up to skip town. We aren’t sure of her guilt or innocence and the pieces don’t fall together until a good ways into the story, which I actually enjoyed. It left me in suspense and eager to keep reading.

I also found the first person POV intriguing, from both Casey’s and Dylan’s perspective. Casey is, obviously, a murder suspect and on the run. She’s a smart girl who may know something worth getting herself killed over. Dylan is a private investigator hired by the deceased’s family to find Casey and bring her back home to be ‘questioned’.

4 stars. A must read if you enjoy fast paced thrillers, the beginning of what could be an awesome series.

  • I loved this book. It kept me on edge. I loved Casey’s character. She is wanted for murder and yet she just cannot help but get in situations where she is helping people and even putting her life on the line to help others. Both Casey and Dylan are incredibly smart and they make a great team – even though they technically aren’t supposed to be on the same side.

The end of the book really got me because it was a bit of a cliffhanger. Terri Blackstock, please tell me this is the first book in a series! I HAVE to find out what happens next!!

  • Terri Blackstock is one of my favorite suspense authors, and If I Run doesn’t disappoint. It features gradually revealed characters in dueling first person chapters with a plot that keeps the reader on her toes. It’s a compelling read that’s hard to put down, although much of the action takes place in the heads of the two main characters rather than through action or dialogue.

My only complaint is that it’s the first of a trilogy, which means I’ll have to wait way to long for the next installment.

  • Reading If I Run is like watching an episode of Person of Interest – it’s fast-paced, good-vs-evil, and things aren’t always what they seem.

Blackstock writes this newest book with her signature flair, but unlike her other work, Casey’s problem isn’t resolved by the time the final page is turned. While her situation is ever fluid and always changing, it’s never what it seems. Her case makes the story a real page-turner.

Terri Blackstock’s newest series is one I couldn’t put down. I read the entire story in one sitting, and with this cliffhanger ending, I can’t wait for the sequel. If you like suspenseful stories, If I Run should be your next read.

  • I’ve become a big fan of Terri Blackstock’s books so I was excited to read this brand new one.

If I Run is a mystery thriller that does not disappoint. I felt myself being afraid and stressed out while reading. Normally that’s not a good thing but it is when reading a thriller!

Casey finds her friend dead and believes she will be accused of the murder. In a desperate move, she runs.

The other character in the book is the man hired by her friend’s family to find her. He begins to learn about Casey, he starts to doubt her guilt.

A slimy police officer is part of the mix…..I won’t give that part away though!

I enjoyed this book but it’s obviously going to be part of a series because it kind of abruptly ended without the story quite wrapping up.

  • As always I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Ms. Blackstock, I have to say overall it wasn’t quite up to par with some of her previous works though. It was fast paced and I read it very quickly but the mystery was pretty predictable and there wasn’t as much of a build up. Still the story line was solid and the characters were likable which made it for an interesting read. Oh, and the villains were awful, the side mystery about the young girls abduction was sad.:( I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

  • “If I Run” is a non-stop, action packed, heart racing, page turner. This book is filled with suspense and will keep you guessing. Literally. I didn’t realize until the last couple of pages that Casey’s story wasn’t going to be concluded in this book. I was frustrated and disappointed, but in a good way. I’m so anxious to find out what happens, hopefully it won’t be too long.

The characters are very well developed and Casey is an angel. I love how she is so selfless and always willing to help others even though she’s on the run for her life.

My only complaint is what happened in the library. I’m proud that Casey did what was right and stopped that man from continuing, but I was disturbed just reading about it.

Suspense readers will absolutely love this book!

  • I love Terri Blackstock as an author and have read several of her works. I was excited to be receiving a copy of her newest book If I Run to read and review. I was not disappointed. It’s one of those books where if I didn’t have kids I would have locked myself in a room and not come out until I was done reading. Unfortunately, I do have kids and they do require attention and food so that wasn’t what happened. But the book did make me not want to put it down. At all. And I did stay up late one night finishing it. And then I was sad. Sad that it leaves me hanging! Come on! When does the next one come out? It’s got to have a sequel coming. You can’t just leave me on a cliff like that.

  • If you and I were sitting down on my sofa drinking tea and discussing new books that we each had read recently, this would be the one I would have to pick as the best yet. This is the third book I have read by Terri and just like the other two I found myself captivated from page one clear to the end. I was very much into the story that I was a little dismayed when I reached the end of the book and found that I will have to wait until the next book of this trilogy to see what happens to Casey and Dylan.

  • A couple times a year I come across a book that I absolutely cannot pull myself away from. Lucky for me, this happened early in the year, however, I have been experiencing such a bad “book hangover” since reading it, and I am anticipating the next book in the series to come out so I can devour it the same way I did with this one. While I was reading If I Run by Terri Blackstock, I MADE time to read because I could not stop. I finished the book in 3 sittings! Terri Blackstock weaves an absolutely enthralling story that keeps you hanging on to the very end. I can, and will, honestly recommend this book to anyone!

  • This book really is one of the best suspense novels I have ever read (not that I’ve actually read very many but I’m sure I’d still say that if I had) and I am so glad I had the chance to read and review it. Terri did a fabulous job of weaving together all the elements of this suspenseful mystery, and I cannot wait to read more about Casey as Terri comes out with another book in this series (whenever that will be). I have to give this novel all five bookshelves because it has a spot on my all-time favorites list, and has from almost the very first chapter of this story, so I can’t imagine giving it anything else. I highly recommend you read it, because I’m sure you’re going to love it!

  • Not only is this book suspenseful in every page, it has a depth to it that alludes a lot of suspense authors. I think it’s going to take a lot to surpass the love I have for this suspense!

  • Had it not been for my working on putting my bedroom furniture together and setting up mymaster bedroom, I’d have stayed in this book for the evening- It’s a thrill from the very first page!

  • If I Run by Terri Blackstock is full of suspense throughout the book. I was on the edge of my seat reading this one and could not put the book down. The pace of the book is fast so you need to make sure to follow along so you don’t miss any details. Even though the ending left me hanging, I know it will continue in the next book as this is the first book for the “If I Run Series”. Be sure to lookout for more books to come.

  • The best endorsement I can give for If I Run actually comes from my 15 year old daughter, Kaitlin. Kaitlin, who really hasn’t been interested in reading, saw my copy and asked to read it when I was done. She took it with her to school, in the car, and even went to bed early so she could read for a while! Kaitlin had it completed in a couple of days, and the first words out of her mouth were, “Ahh, I can’t believe it ended like that! This book is awesome….do you have the next one?”

I am thrilled to find a murder mystery that is full of depth, suspense, main plots and subplots that not only I enjoy, but that are appropriate for me to pass along to my teens to read!

  • Cara Putman says:

If I Run starts with Casey on the run trying to stay ahead of the police and her boyfriend’s murderer and simply doesn’t stop. Imagine you’ve been accused of a crime you didn’t commit, but going to the police to clear things up isn’t an option. You’re on the run, trying to stay one step ahead, while also trying to figure out what did happen. Then the victim’s family hires a private detective, so you have to stay ahead of two groups searching for you, all while solving the murder.

The pacing is fast, the intensity ratcheting up with each page.

This is a book that latches on to you and doesn’t stop. Perfect for all the Christian suspense lovers out there. Just a note that this is the first in a series, so not everything wraps up cleanly in this book. I don’t think you’ll mind though!

  • The heroine is a young lady that is well read and thoughtful. Casey is thoughtful in how she treats other people, and thoughtful with her actions. I was really rooting for her the entire story. I don’t know if I would have the strength to do what she did for herself and for her new friends.

She is so good with having all the multiple threads going and somehow coming together and [mostly] working out. The pacing in this story is nice in the way that parts are hold-your-breath-what’s-going-to-happen and other parts let the reader relax a bit. She even manages to work in some religious lessons through dialogue that kept me engaged and thinking.

I enjoyed If I Run (An If I Run Novel) – except for the fact that it doesn’t end!! I’m ready to read the next one!
