Imperfect Justice

Imperfect Justice

Imperfect Justice (Thomas Nelson, December 2017)

The police say the woman was a murderer. Emilie Wesley knows they can’t be talking about her client . . . can they?

To the world it seems obvious: Kaylene Adams killed her daughter and then was shot by police. Attorney Emilie Wesley knows a different story: Kaylene would never hurt anyone and was looking for a way out of a controlling, abusive relationship. Her death shakes Emilie’s belief that she can make a difference for women in violent marriages. Self-doubt plagues her as she struggles to continue her work in the wake of the tragedy.

Reid Billings thought he knew his sister—right up until he learned how she died. He discovers a letter from Kaylene begging him to fight for custody of her daughters if anything should happen to her. No attorney in her right mind would support an uncle instead of the father in a custody case, but Kaylene’s letter claims Emilie Wesley will help him.

Thrown together in a race to save Kaylene’s surviving daughter, Emily and Reid pursue the constantly evasive truth. If they can hang on to hope together, can they save a young girl—and find a future for themselves in the process?

  • The description of the book says it all… I just loved the book. Some tense moments, some mysteries and plots… Great read for those who like the strong and full of justice women in the advocate, lawyer office.

I just like Emilie Wesley, the way she hold herself and every case she ever handled… But the last case came to dead end with some lives lost to shootings. She needs to proove that her client is not a murderer, and there are more dangerous subject lurking around the corner in the shadows.

  • This is a good legal procedure novel about helping women and children escape domestic abuse. There is also a sort of sub plot about wealth management and another side plot about stalking. Putnam’s writing style include much thinking by the characters. The novel does not have much suspense but does include some romance. I recommend this novel to readers who like characters ruminating.

  • Imperfect Justice was a 5 star read and I was so impatient waiting for this second book in the Hidden Justice series. It was so worth the wait. I loved the romance and the legal thriller combination of this book.
You are going to love Emilee and Reid. I can’t wait for you all to read this one.

  • I couldn’t put IMPERFECT JUSTICE down. Despite deadlines of my own, I inhaled every page of this book. If you like romantic suspense don’t let the word “legal” scare you off, because Ms. took the fear of that word out of the story while keeping the tension high in the suspense. While I did figure out early on who Emilie’s stalker was, I didn’t know how either situation would get to the climax and HEA ending. An engaging read.

  • Best Reads says:

Honestly, I’m surprised at how much I’m enjoying this Hidden Justice series by Cara Putman. I just read the first book a month ago and am definitely on the legal suspense bandwagon now. It’s a totally different kind of mystery and investigation but just as riveting. And while I don’t know a lot about the legal system, I feel like the author writes for readers like me. Which means the legal lingo and court scenes don’t get so technical that she loses me.

  • Author Cara Putman did a good job of keeping the legal-ese to a minimum, making the plot fairly simple to understand. It wasn’t a mindless read, meaning that I had to pay a bit of attention to the storyline, but the plot wasn’t overly complex either.

  • Get ready for a roller coaster ride as you read this action packed story. The author does an amazing job of keeping readers guessing as the story has intrigue and surprises . I loved the storyline about advocating for women in domestic situations. The story takes readers behind the scenes where lawyers fight to protect their clients through the court system. Domestic violence is a hard subject to read about, and the author does a very good job of showing readers the impact it has on families.

  • I like a good romantic suspense book. There’s something nice and dramatic about the hero who saves the heroine from death. Imperfect Justice by Cara Putman is suspense with a little romance and some legal thriller all rolled into one.

  • In all, Imperfect Justice is compelling from the start, giving readers more than one mystery that leads to a suspense plot, behind the scene of some legal procedures, as well as some high stakes drama! You won’t want to put this down until you finish the last page.

  • Imperfect Justice by Cara Putman was a great book. The first thing I want to say is that if you don’t like to read books that have domestic violence in them than I would skip this book because that is a big theme in the book. I have read several other books by this author in the past, and I have liked the ones that I have read. I really enjoy books like this one, and I rarely find one that I don’t want.

  • I want to thank Cara Putman for telling a very heart-tugging and touching story that in the end was excellent! For me, I won’t soon forget this book and look forward to whatever Cara brings next in the Justice series!

  • Imperfect Justice is a suspense-packed legal thriller about a contemporary social issue. Cara highlights some of the issues faced by women living in abusive relationships. It was easy to understand Emilie’s emotional struggles following her client’s tragic death. Emilie’s own experience with an abusive relationship and a stalker give her personal insight into her clients’ struggles.

  • This author keeps your attention even if you’ve already decided you know who the shooter actually was. Be prepared for some surprises.

  • This is the very first Cara Putman novel that I have read, but it most definitely will not be the last. Imperfect Justice is a phenomenally written story. I was hooked from page one and could not put it down. In fact, there were a few times I realized I was getting lightheaded because I was holding my breath! This story is SO intense. If you are looking for a fantastically written legal thriller to curl up to this December, then this book is absolutely for you!

  • Cara Putman delivers engaging legal suspense with a sweet romantic flair! I was transfixed by each page of Imperfect Justice from start to finish!

This story exudes authenticity with a well-balanced combination of heavy elements (crime, grief, danger) and encouragement (faith, love, hope). I highly recommend this series and eagerly anticipate future installments!!!

  • In summary, Imperfect Justice is a romantic suspenseful novel. It also has danger with a bit of mystery. The book ends with a tense custody battle where deep secrets are finally revealed and the truth comes out in a courtroom confession. The story and the characters are so life like and the belief in faith is felt throughout the beginning to the very end. I enjoyed reading this immensely.

  • I thought this story was well thought out and serves to bring us all to awareness, that in some families, all is not what it seems. The characters are very believable, as is the story line.

  • I have read and enjoyed a number of books by Cara Putman during her career as an author that include both historical and contemporary suspense. Although each one has been very good, I believe that this author has excelled with her latest legal suspense series entitled Hidden Justice. “Imperfect Justice” is the second installment of the series and may be the very best one yet.

“Imperfect Justice” offers the reader not one, but two mysteries to help solve (you know we all get that involved with our books).

  • As a person who has been through some of these topics covered in the book it hit home for me. It was almost real life playing out and the author does a great job of really pointing out some harsher moments. This would be recommend for anyone not suffering with PTSD and who enjoys a great bit of suspense.

  • C Jane Read says:

This is a legal thriller, with suspense and romance thrown in. The story moves slowly really focusing on the battle women experiencing domestic abuse face and Reid’s financial job. This allows readers to really get to know Reid and Emilie, understanding their approach to life and what Emilie deals with while fighting for abused women. I really enjoyed these characters and the story kept me intrigued the whole way through.

  • I loved this book! It would of helped to read the first book in the series by Cara, since the story is referenced, but it does stand alone decently, since it’s about a different character than the first book. I like that it is a legal mystery, without being burdened with too much legalese. I like that there are two mysteries going on with the story, which really helps the tale move quickly. There is also a lot of depth to it, with dealing with an abusive marriage. Cara handles the story well. I highly recommend this one!

  • The story builds, layer upon layer, toward a pretty tense climax. In a story like this, it’s a relief when the romance follows a gentle and natural trajectory without adding further angst to the mix, which is exactly how things progress between Reid and Emilie. All in all, a great read for those who enjoy legal suspense with a side of romance.

  • Cara Putnam is a talented author, but she has topped all of her previous offerings with this gripping suspense. Imperfect Justice held me captive from the opening pages, and I was loath to set it aside until the final page was turned. Putnam creates a multi-faceted story with perfectly paced, heart-pounding moments that repeatedly begged for “one more chapter” as each page urged me forward. Authenticity informed by her legal expertise combines with skillfully drawn characters, and chilling scenes ensured all the lights stayed on as I read.

  • IMPERFECT JUSTICE is a story of a woman’s fight to save women in abusive relationships and the one loss that deeply impacts her while also opening up a new direction for her life. The romance is sweet and develops slowly while the suspense steadily grows to a climatic end. Recommended to those who enjoy inspirational romantic suspense and legal thrillers.

What I enjoyed most about this story was Emilie and Reid’s fight to protect his niece and to find out what really happened to Kaylene. I also loved how their friendship developed and then grew to something more. I also adored the ending!

  • This  is the second book in the Hidden Justice series, but it stands well on its own. I didn’t feel like I was missing back story or character development. Putman has a raw talent for drawing readers in and bringing them to the edge. The characters are well developed and relatable. The storyline was believable and easy to follow. I couldn’t put this book down! I finished it in record time because I just couldn’t put it down. Emilie is such a powerful and moving character. I love how well developed she is and my heart ached for her. It’s a great book that I highly recommend.

  • This is one of those stories that kept me up late at night reading it because I just had to know how it ended. I really enjoyed the romance between Reid and Emilie as well as the suspense of them trying to prove that Reid’s sister did not commit the crime everyone thought she did. Throw in a stalker and a little girl in trouble and I was hooked.

  • Imperfect Justice is the second book in Putman’s Hidden Justice series. The first was Beyond Justice. I appreciate the spotlight Putman put on domestic violence in this story.

  • Overall, it’s an interesting book, but it just wasn’t for me.

  • This is a legal thriller that deals with an issue that will grab at your heart – an abusive marriage, a murder including children, and an uncle trying to save his niece from the same fate. I enjoyed the intense way this book was written and the light romance that gives you a little bit of relief from the mystery of everything else going on.

  • If you’ve read other Cara Putnam books and liked them, then I am sure you will like this addition by a best-selling legal thriller author.

  • Hold on to your seat belts, because this story is going to take you on a very bumpy but exciting ride. From the very start of the book, you will be thrown into a most intriguing mystery. Throw in a hint of romance and a dash of danger and what you have is a very interesting book.

  • Imperfect Justice is a thrilling, suspenseful novel that leaves you hopeful and yet angry at the same time. The novel itself is well written and keeps you on your toes. You want nothing more than for Emilie to put away Kaylene’s ex-husband away for life and for him to get what he deserves. But the plot constantly thickens as she unravels the truth and then there is a second layer of mystery with someone trying to harm Emilie herself. This is an excellent story from start to finish.

  • I really enjoyed how this starts. I work with victims of domestic abuse, and I think the author did a great job introducing the subject and how it can be when a victim is trying to get help. You can really see the internal struggles one can face when working in this field and how they internalize themselves failing when something goes wrong. It also immediately caught my attention and I did not want to put it down. Be prepared to shed a tear or two as well.

  • Moments says:

Cara does an incredible job with bringing the characters to life and really developing the story and holding the reader’s attention. This is the second book in the series, and reading book #1 isn’t a must, but I recommend you do; and excited to read book #3 when it comes out!
