  • I have alot of Focus on the Family books, magazines etc. First I love the title Lead your Family Like Jesus…that is onething that my husband and I are doing right now, being the parents of 6 kids, 5 boys ages 15, twins 13, 9 and 6, 1 girl 2. We are constantly leading them the right way, raising men of valor and a modest woman! Many parents want to be there kids friend, i am not I am there mama as God has appointed me. I must share with you the gospel of Christ, because I am accountable for 6 little lives, and I am going to lead you the right way! Since we love our kids with our entire well being, we have to lead them the way to serve, love, help, teach, pray etc!

  • The IE Mommy says:

This book was so incredibly helpful I literally felt a weight lifted after reading Lead Your Family Like Jesus. Three authors with different perspectives came together to create one cohesive book that is both inspirational and informative.

Lead Your Family Like Jesus is so helpful and simple yet profound at the same time. Every parent should read this amazing book!

  • One of my favorite items is TriciaGoyer’s method of praying for her children’s heads, shoulders, knees, and toes!

This book will be my gift of choice at all future baby showers!

  • Ken Blanchard, Tricia Goyer, and Phil Hodges collaborated on this book with each in their own right having families and enough years under their belts raising them to give us all a few pointers on how to get better at doing it ourselves. The authors go about giving us insights into what has worked for them and their families over the years. Putting God first will always, always always lead you down the best path for your family. The authors have also given pause and reflect tips at the end of each chapter. As well as Points to ponder and final thoughts.

  • I love that the authors of this book used personal language and personal examples to give this book a special touch. This authors of this book don’t “preach” at the reader. The authors use examples and personal stories to help show that we all have short comings that we have to overcome in order to lead like Jesus.

  • This little easy-to-read book offers wisdom, practical principles and personal stories that will help you become a transformed parent.
Of all of the parenting books in the bookstores today, this is definitely one you will want to have in your home library.

  • The one thing I have really taken from the book, with my oldest about to turn 18, is I am doing something right. From the teachings in the book, you learn sticking to your guns is a huge part of making sure your children learn. It has been something I had issues with initially, those cute faces got to me every time, but it has stopped and I learned to stick to my guns. Since that time, my kids are not so quick to lip off or behave in an un-approving manner. They know I will not step down from decision, and have taught them there is good and bad consequences to every choice. It helps them see the bigger picture in the end.
So I think not only new parents, but parents of older children can benefit from reading this book. Our kids don’t come with manuals, but books like this one sure help get through some of those tougher moments, and with our morality in tact.

  • This is a leadership book.

This is a child-training book. A book on parenting.

I cannot recommend this book enough – for everyone – parents, pastors, teachers – anyone who teaches or deals with children or leadership.

  • As a parent of eight children, I can honestly say I wish this book would have been written when my older children were still young. A few of my favorite chapters discussed knowing a bump in the road from a crisis, inspiring obedience and not rebellion, and turning mistakes into opportunities through forgiveness. If you have younger children, this book will position you to help your whole family succeed by teaching you early on how to lead your children. If you have older children, perhaps teenagers, know that this book is for you, too!

  • I’ve read books by Tricia Goyer in the past and knew that I liked her way of thinking, so that’s one of the reasons I was drawn to this book. Whether you’re a mom, dad, or serving as both while being a single parent, there are lessons to be learned from this book. It gives excellent “Points to Ponder” that urge the reader to take a look inside the heart. Reading this book is such an exercise in becoming the parent that God wants you to be. I highly recommend it!

  • Ken, Tricia, and Phil all include personal side stories for examples on how to create a better family atmosphere and often they list things that are important with bullet points.

This is a great book and I highly recommend to anyone who has kids or who is planning to have some!

“I received this book for free from Litfuse in exchange for an honest review”.

  • Ben and Me says:

I have often heard it said that children don’t come with a manual. Well, I disagree. Children do come with a manual — it’s called the Bible. But even those of us who know this as truth often struggle with how to lead our children according to the precepts of our “manual.” If you are one of these parents, then Lead Your Family like Jesus may be the perfect commentary for you.

  • Saved Sister says:

What I love about Lead Your Family Like Jesus is that it isn’t another “how to” book that you can use to check things off of a list to be a better parent. Instead it is a book that invites you to learn more about Jesus and implement those lessons in your home with a servant heart like His. Each author writes from their experience as parents and all they have learned along the way.

  • MIchelle says:

Ken, Tricia, and Phil wrote a great book that I wished I had read 23 years ago when I was a young mother. I highly suggest that parents of young adults read the last chapter and then read the whole book. The authors provide great insight on how to lead and to start leading your family like Jesus led his disciples.

  • Angie Webb says:

The book was well written and was easy to follow. It was not written for any specific age group of children but could be used for any age group from small toddlers to grown children.

My children are grown men now and I wish I had this book when I was a young mom of two small children. My kids are 22 years old and 28 years old. Hopefully, one day I can use this valuable book to help my grandkids grow into children and adults who love the Lord and who live their lives truly focused on serving HIM and one another.

  • This is a powerful book for FAMILIES…not just moms or dads…but for BOTH to read and gain insight from.

If you want to Lead Like Jesus…and teach your children to as well…this book is a must for your library!

  • Laura Hilton says:

LEAD YOUR FAMILY LIKE JESUS arrived when I struggled with my oldest son. I was ready to wash my hands of him. I read through this book and realized some of the things I did wrong. I responded to his anger with anger. I hope that by reading and rereading this book as well as a lot of prayer, I can lead my son, like Jesus, to the place where he’d serve the Lord willingly, and not be so arrogant and rebellious.

  • From page one I loved this book. Not only did I take copious notes, I find myself thinking about the principles on a daily basis: Am I leading toward obedience or satisfying my ego? Am I inspiring my children to have a heart for God or am I demanding obedience? Am I a servant leader?

I think no matter where a person is in their family life, this is a good book to keep on hand.

  • Parenting your children is a crucial job of a parent and yet guiding them the right way is even more difficult in which the world pulls at them, in every direction including ours as parents. We need to glorify our Father in heaven with how we raise our children, and how to approach how we raise them.

*just loved the book, made several markings in my book, because I knew how important it is.*

  • This book speaks to something I’ve been struggling with, intentional parenting.

Sometimes, I just get swept up in the busy nature of life. It’s funny how many days and months can pass before I stop and realize I need to re-evaluate. I need to constantly keep my kids before me in my heart and in prayer. Everyday.

I love the many stops in the book called Pause and Reflect.

I need to pause and reflect more often!

The book is less about changing your kids and more about changing your heart to reflect Jesus.

When I read the book I realized I might be inspiring disobedience. Ever have those moments, when you are so tired of the stubbornness that you don’t stand your ground.

  • If you want a book to help guide you through raising your family to be a Godly one. Then this is the book to help you do just that!

  • Although this book is written to parents, it has some great ideas that grandparents can use when the grandkids visit. Ideas like verbalizing values, picturing priorities and thumbs up/thumbs down (all found in Chapter Five). Also, grandparents will be encouraged to have an eternal perspective as they interact with their legacy. As I heard someone once say, grandchildren are messengers to generations that we will never see.

  • While I found that all 3 authors points were things that I could resonate with, I felt like, as a mother, Trisha Goyer’s sections of the book spoke to me the most. I like that there was both a male and female point of view, making this a great book for both moms and dads alike. I have been applying principles from the book with my three little ones since I began reading it and I can definitely feel a huge difference in our house. Where things were once tense a lot of the time (with my very spirited 5 year old) things are now a lot calmer. I have a long way to go, but I am so happy to have such a good guide book to help me a long the way as a mom. I know I will be reaching for this book often and for years to come.

  • I don’t have kids of my own, but after twenty-five years of observing family dynamics from behind my teacher’s desk, I’d have to say that parenting is the hardest job in the world. At our Christian high school, we dedicate ourselves to coming alongside parents as they seek to lead their children to Christ, guide their character development, and prepare them for life. So I’ll be sharing my copy of Lead Your Family Like Jesus with as many parents as possible.

***Thanks to Tricia and Tyndale House for sending me a copy of Lead Your Family Like Jesus to review. Please, don’t miss picking up a copy of the book! Both parents and parents-to-be will appreciate this book. And if you are a grandparent, one of the nicest things you can do for your grandkids is to share this book with their par

  • Although I’ve only had this book for a few weeks now, I can already feel a difference in myself and subsequently our household. It is so true that Mom can really set the tone for the family. I can’t stress enough what a wonderful parenting book this is-be sure to order a copy for yourself, and let friends and family know about it! Lead Your Family Like Jesus would make a great gift for new parents too!

  • I love that there were many anecdotes and there was a lot of new material presented. Some of the information was things that I already knew but wished that I could share with other parents (like not allowing your child to control you!) and now I have a great way to share that information- by gifting a copy of this book!

  • This was really a great book. It was packed with tons of practical advice and was very applicable to our family. After having Hannah seven weeks ago, I have quickly realized what a big responsibility we have as her parents! We need to lead our family in every way, so I will take all the help and support I can get.

  • Buzz4Mommies says:

Lead Your Family Like Jesus is such a powerful little book. It is a very effective tool in raising your children for God’s Will. I love that this book is a collaborative effort so that you get several perspectives. I also really enjoyed how they used quotes from real parents facing real life situations. It made everything seem more personable and less lecture like.I love the open ended nature of the discussions. You have to teach your children what is expected of them and not just assume that they know.

  • Oh were to begin to share how much this book has changed me, challenged me and encouraged me as a Mom After God’s Own Heart! As a member of the Launch Team for this book release, I knew going in that I would enjoy it because Tricia Goyer is one of my favorite authors. However, I had no idea the true impact this book would make on me!

  • Lead Your Family Like Jesus is the kind of parenting book that dads will appreciate as well; Tricia Goyer brings in the Momma’s perspective that keeps it balanced and relatable to both Mom and Dad. It is also a book that doesn’t just tell you to, “do this and your kids will turn out great!” You can’t just look up a behavioral issue that you are facing with your child and find the answers to fix the isolated problem. However, the book does encourage you to keep up a self and family evaluation in order not to stray too far from your main desires and priorities for your family and its individuals.

  • The book would be an excellent study guide for a church parenting class, especially for parents of elementary/tweens, who may have lost their way on a steady influence on their kids in a positive manner, and become more reactionary to their kids’ actions.Additional resources are available to go with the book, including daily devotions, study guides, student resources, and interactive programs, to assist in making a program from the book for your church.

It is an interesting and informative book, and one Christian parents should read.

  • This is a great book for any parent. I liked all the stories and quotes that were shared within the book and the different authors ideas. I will definitely need to read through this book again to glean more great ideas.

If you are looking for a book to encourage you on your journey as a parent from someone who has been there then this book is for you. I found it to be encouraging, reassuring and convicting at times. But convicting in a good way to help me change for the better.

  • Let me tell y’all…this book is AWESOME!!! (And, I am so not just saying that either!) The authors put in a lot of great advice, personal testimonies, principles to follow, and Scriptures to encourage and help in being a “servant leader”. So many times, I have been guilty of being a “self-serving” leader and not a “servant-hearted” one. I want to be the best that I can be (play the army music

  • Lead Your Family Like Jesus by Ken Blanchard, Phil Hodges and Tricia Goyer is a collection of stories and advice on how to let Jesus guide your attitudes, actions and behaviors, when parenting your children. This book is filled with practical advice for leading your family like Jesus – as a servant-leader. A servant leader is one that seeks to influence the thinking, behavior or development of another person, through the giving of themselves – their time, talent and treasures, rather than taking from someone else. Jesus personified this concept, and as such is the perfect role model for us, as parents, to emulate.

  • I really wish I would have had this book in my possession when my son’s were little. What an amazing book this truly is! The great thing is, though, this book has so much that I was able to apply to, not only my family and my adult sons, but in my relationships with others!

This book is written from the perspective of the three different authors, which I really like. Each one shared personal stories from their life and they wrote from different perspectives. This book is really like sitting with these amazing, godly people and learning from them.

  • In truth, this is a book you want to keep handy and re-read. As your children grow and change, and your relationship with them grows and changes, the principles in the book will have greater and different meaning. This is an excellent parenting tool, and parents of ALL AGES would benefit from its contents! I am happy to recommend this book to EVERYONE!

  • Cummins Life says:

While we all have strengths and weaknesses this book has allowed me to realize that I really struggle with my habits. It is much easier to stay on track of goals and missions if you are staying close to Him and meeting challenges face on by meeting with Him. Now, this doesn’t exactly mean – meet with Him and everything in your life will run smoothly. I admittedly have let my time with God dwindle lately and have not been having consistent times with just Him and I. And I know that this has played its part, making things more difficult for myself and those around me. This book has served as a good reminder for me to press in to all that God has for me and my family! Aligning my heart, head, hands and habits will truly free me up to lead with joy!

  • Fruitbearers says:

I love and appreciate the Christ-centered principles, Biblical insights, and practical wisdom/advice that these three authors offer. This book will make you think about your life purpose and your family’s vision, values, and goals.

  • There are lots of parenting books out there that are written from a Christian perspective, but this one is unique. It is a parent leadership book which provides a tremendous resource for parents of young children as well as teenagers. This one is a game changer!

  • These three authors share four important steps that will help us not only love Jesus, but live for Him and teach our children to love him using our heart, head, hands and habits. Drawing from the parenting experiences, their struggles, their faith they share these important steps and how to implement them in our own families.

Using Jesus as a role model (and what better role model is there), we learn how important it is to focus on the eternal, to be aligned with Jesus and his love for us.

  • I would recommend this magnificent Focus on the Family book to all parents and people who are wanting to have children at some point in their lives. This book is for men and women and it will be a great resource to read together as a couple. This book will outstandingly influence you and your family in your parenting tactics. I immensely enjoyed reading and learning firsthand about some of the issues the parents have to face and deal with. This book has helped me to see other parent’s success and failures in parenting and how to handle managing a family. This book has changed my life and cause me to discover my values and my vision for my family. I know I will be rereading this book before I have children and making my wife join me in the process. If you’re looking for a wonderful parenting book, then this book will massively change your life and your family life will be forever improved and impacted for the Kingdom of God!

  • I haven’t read many parenting books, but I get the feeling they deal with a lot of the individual behaviors or specific ideas to train your children (think “Super Nanny”) – but that’s not this book. “Lead Your Family Like Jesus” is more about the vision and missions statements that define who and what your family is. It’s the bigger perspective of the culture that you are creating in your home. This “seeing the forest” perspective is refreshing. Take a step back from the crazy and the busy of family life and set your course.

  • It seems in the endless mounds of laundry and “Mom!” being the only word I hear all day, it can be difficult to see the eternal purpose in this thing called motherhood. The day to day business can take over the impact I need to be making in their souls.

  • The book has 3 authors–I am not usually a fan of books written by more than one author, but Lead Your Family Like Jesus is able to miss many of the multi-author pitfalls by being very clear about which author is writing each section. The three authors come from different points of view–or, to be more accurate, one of these writers is not like the others. While Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges are both “seasoned” fathers, Tricia Goyer comes from the mother’s, and younger, point of view. I found her sections to be the most enjoyable, not only because I could relate most closely with her but also because of her “looser” style. There are also many little vignettes throughout the book from “real” parents that bring the points home.

  • I highly recommend Lead Your Family Like Jesus to parents who are searching for answers or just need a bit of guidance along the way. The chapters are short and easy to read. They are jam packed with thought provoking questions, wonderful and reassuring advice, tips for staying on track, personal stories and shared comments from parents. Tricia Goyer mentions that she reads the Bible every day at 6:00 AM. She states, “It’s like getting a pep talk from a coach before you head into the football game.” God is the ultimate coach, is He not? I felt that Lead Your Family Like Jesus was God’s way of giving me a pep talk. One that I didn’t even know I needed.:)

  • Parenting is the most important job you will have and yet too often it seems like it can all become too much to handle. But it doesn’t have to become overwhelming. There are ways to lead your family in the right direction that will mean less stress and more joy for everyone. It can all be done through a Christ-centred family.

  • I enjoyed this book! While the ideas are deep and insightful, I was able to read this book rather quickly. I think it would be a great tool for parents with children beyond pre-school, lots of ways to include children in the steering of the family.

  • The advice and wisdom of the authors along with the insight of many different parents interjected throughout the book have really encouraged me to use the thoughts presented in order to better myself as a mother. It has been a great starting point for me to move forward in creating a more focused, intentional role as a servant-leader called Mom.

  • Lead Your Family Like Jesus is a practical book by three different authors: Ken Blanchard, Phil Hodges, and Tricia Goyer. This book is very thought provoking and truly spoke to my heart about leading my family like Jesus. This book is divided into four main sections: Hearts, Head, Hands, and Habits. From there it breaks down further with unique insight from each of the authors.

  • Happy Four says:

When reading the book I could relate to the examples provided and the practical tools are applicable and positive for the family. I was convicted in many areas of my parenting and am thankful for this tool that doesn’t judge, but rather points us to what the Bible says and gives us the tools to implement being leaders in our home.

  • I found this book very interesting to be able to have all three authors giving their opinions together so I could compare what they said. They all believe same thing, just say it in a different way. This book is easy to read and understand, is full of practical advise and ideas, and is also full of scripture backing up what is taught.

  • I was so eager to read this book and while eager doesn’t mean that I quickly read through it, I’m still only half way through, because I’m trying to take my time as I read through it and highlight the important parts I want to remember. Oftentimes, I find myself losing patience with my children – and I resort to yelling, like my parents often did when I was growing up. I’ve been working on that and that is why I was so grateful to receive an e-book copy of Lead Your Family Like Jesus because I want to be more of Jesus-type of parent. When I think of how I feel when my children demonstrate my behavior by yelling at one another or saying mean things – I cringe because they’ve learned that behavior from my husband and I.

  • Who doesn’t want to lead their family like Jesus would? I know that we do, as parents. I loved this book! And look at the authors!! They are definitely leaders and people who I can learn alot from. Of course, there were bigger issues that the book dealt with, but I think my favorite parts were when they discussed the little issues, that turn into big issues. I really learned alot from this book and plan to read it over several more times. It is definitely a great book for every single parent to read, whether you are Christian or not. Every idea is great for every parent and does not all have to be taken from a religious point of view. Excellent book for every parent!

  • In Wonder says:

Take a moment to think about the person who has impacted your life the most?

What is it about them that is different?

I remember as a child visiting a church and having an “oldish” man shake his finger in my face and say “make sure you are a good girl. Your parents are doing the important work of God”. It is hard to erase some things. Some of those people literally “scared the hell” out of children. I also never forgot the recently widowed woman who approached my parents (to this day, I don’t know if I ever really heard her name) to ask if she could take the four of us (energetic kids) miniature golfing. We went and it rained. She bought us ice cream. When it stopped raining we were able to play not one, but two games. I always knew that woman loved Jesus because she let us be what we were…

    children. ☺

It’s the little things. Lead Your Family Like Jesus is a reminder to return to the basics of serving in love and forgiveness. Being generous with time. Blessing with words. Looking to Jesus.

  • This book is typical to Focus on the Family’s style, it is full of hands on material you can put to good use with your family! Looking for advice and wisdom from others who have been in the same situation? Blanchard, Hodges, & Goyer have years of experience to share! I loved the layout of the book…the principle is stated, a real-life story is shared, thoughts/knowledge are backed up by biblical points, and then a pause and reflect time at the end!

  • Lead Your Family Like Jesus is the kind of Biblically-based parenting book that I’ve wanted to read for a while. It was written by the team of Ken Blanchard, Phil Hodges, and Tricia Goyer. Their combined education and firsthand experience makes this a book worth reading. The title says it all – this book provides practical application and encouragement to look to Jesus as our example for leading our family and being the light of Christ to our children so that they will see faith in action.

  • I was really excited when I was approached with the opportunity to review this book. My husband had gone through Lead Like Jesus a few years ago with the leadership team of our church and I had heard great things about it. I never had the time to read the book that he read but it was on my books to read list for the future. So when this opportunity crossed my path as a blogger, I jumped on it knowing that I could take good information from it. It took quite some time to receive the book mainly because I am in Canada and the postal service was slower than usual.

Lead Your Family Like Jesus is what I consider the parenting book to read in 2013. It will encourage you and help you to become a better parent. …..

  • I do love Tricia Goyer he has such a wonderful and sweet way of sharing the how’s and the why’s of it all. Especially those things that make us a bit uncomfortable, might go against what we beieve or what we do. She gently shares HIs truth within this book that we may remember that we are steward of these little ones, we are missionaries in our homes (to our unsaved family members, to friends and neighbors..we need not travel that far to share HIs message if we are living it). There are so many powerful truths in here that I know I need. I was never raised in a Christ centered home; this is practical and inspiring and powerful. I mean, ome of it make me go “duh” but for the most part even those thing – the lightbulb goe on. And it gets brighter!

  • This book is filled with thought provoking questions and requires a lot of self-reflection.

This book is not so much about individual behavioural issues or specific parenting advice. Rather it focuses on the bigger picture – what your vision for your family is and what steps you need to take to make that vision a reality. It encourages the parents, as the family unit leaders, to first set personal goals for themselves, and then to determine a mission statement and vision for the entire family. It also focuses on reaching our children’s hearts and character, instead of just their behaviour. It’s so easy to get caught up in the day to day mundane tasks of child rearing that it’s easy to miss the forest for the trees when it comes to parenting.

  • An insightful book with practical, Biblical principals to “lead your family like Jesus”. Each section has a great review to let you know what that section is about. Written from the prospective of three great authors who tell of their own experiences to give you practical knowledge of how to lead your family in a Godly, Christian way. There are “Pause and Reflect” passages in each chapter that help you to do just that, pause and reflect on how to make your family better.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review.

  • Review~ I have been reading this book for a few days now and i must say if i had read this about 13 years ago my family would be on a much better track, however it is still not too late to nudge in some of the tips and advice i have been learning from reading Lead like Jesus; since my kids are 121/2 and 8yrs!! 😉 😉 Pamela Black~MomCEO est.1998

  • Cara Putman says:

Being a parent is hard. The challenges are never ending and ever developing. It’s also one of the most rewarding roles many of us have. The delight of a child’s hugs or the joy in her laughter makes changing one more diaper worth it. But even on the best of days, I know I need help and inspiration. That’s why I’m always on the lookout for books like Lead Your Family Like Jesus.

In Lead Your Family Like Jesus, Tricia Goyer, Ken Blanchard, and Phil Hodges combine to give us strategies on how to parent and lead our families like Jesus, the Creator of families. They focus on four main areas: Heart, Head, Hands and Habits. Each chapter has opporutnities to pause and reflect on the principles and how to apply them to your family. There are also multiple opportunites to interact with the ideas

  • Powerfully practical and jam packed with information to lead your family like Jesus. Oh how I wish that I had this book earlier in my life as a young mom. The great thing is that it is never too late to learn to make a change for the better.

…As the Kids Ministry Director at my church I can’t wait to share this book with the families that come into the ministry. This is a must read for families of all ages/stages.

  • Lead Your Family Like Jesus: Powerful Parenting Principles from the Creator of FamiliesLead Your Family Like Jesus: Powerful Parenting Principles from the Creator of Families by Kenneth H. Blanchard

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I have to admit I was expecting a lot from this book. I am familiar with one of the co-writers, Tricia Goyer–she is always an amazing author. I was expecting a lot of Christian principles and Bible verses, and I will say that there was a lot of that. Plenty of practical advice was included, and possibly if you have never read a Christian leadership/family book, this may be a good one for you.

My biggest problem with this book is that it was essentially a Christian version of so many books out there. Bible verses were there, but not included nearly as much as I would like. There were plenty of stories, but all too often I felt like I was reading a secular book with moral principles. I know that the premise was to lead your family like Jesus, but I didn’t see the Biblical correlation as much as I desired. For me, this was a well-written book, but it did not meet the needs that I had. You may have a different experience as mine is merely a personal opinion.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
