  • There is the theme of healing – both literal healing for those in the American civil war and mental healing today from the addiction of drugs and alcohol caused by a past event. God heals souls as we seek Him out. We can discover a God who loves us.

  • If you like Christian historical reads with strong women, beliefs about slavery and generations that melt together then try this series.
Oh yes, don’t forget that bit of romance!

  • I think what intrigued me most about this book (and series) was that it crossed several genres. It’s a Christian novel/historical novel/present-day novel/mystery/romance!

  • “My Daughter’s Legacy” by authors  Mindy Starns Clark and  Leslie Gould is a very enjoyable book.

  • I love how the two stories combined in one timeline… The authors have a great skills in storytelling, and there were no confusion on who is who, and what happens when. Two strong women in one bloodline, that’s a power of strong legacy and well-developed character. The details of the plot instantly transferred me into the story time… Amazing book.

  • This conclusional book is definitely worth 4 stars. The writing styles of these two authors are beautiful, and mysterious and historical elements are awesome. This book is filled with emotions, thought provoking story lines, family legacies, and Godly messages of faith, trust and hope. I definitely suggest you get this book if you’ve read the first two! It will steal you away to another place in time and keep you up long into the night.

  • I really enjoyed this one. I liked the back and forth between Civil War and modern time periods. I enjoyed both of the main characters and felt as if they were well-developed. I liked the way the story flowed between time periods. And the romance in the story- both of them- were sweet and touching.

  • Throughout My Daughter’s Legacy, there’s a deep connection between faith and actions. The characters suffered pain, yet some were able to acknowledge the blessings that came from those struggles.

  • Well written and a fun read.  Great book to read this summer by the pool.

  • The best way I can describe this book is to think of a needle and thread. You need both to create and finish a beautiful project. As the needle goes through the material, the thread connects the previous one until the end result is a woven piece of beauty. This story weaves past and present into an emotional and vivid account of the Civil War and brings it to the present in an intriguing way. I found myself at times wiping away tears as I read about the slaves. The inhumane way they were treated was so hard to imagine that I wept for their suffering.

  • These two authors did a remarkable job of collaborating and bringing together their stories which sprang from very different beginnings. The characters from both time periods are well developed, and their stories are compelling. They are masterfully weaved together to form a beautiful tale of strength, conviction, and faith.

  • GCC bookworm says:

A mix of history, geneology, faith and mystery made “My Daughter’s Legacy” a delightful read. I didn’t want to stop reading it till the mystery was solved and then I didn’t want the story to stop! Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould have out done themselves.

  • Nicole’s story takes place during present day and it shows her struggles of getting her life back on track after years of substance abuse. During summer break, she takes an internship as equine therapist to help ease her own demons. However, her boss can’t seem to tolerate her even if though she tries her best to get alone with him. While facing stress at work, the real reason she return home was to share a secret with her family that has been haunting her since she was a child. How are the two women connected? What secrets are the family hiding?

  • The switchback between 1864 and present was very well written and enjoyable to read. I loved the tie in with both story lines and the multiple characters all flowed nicely. There is a great suspense that goes along with the book that had me until the end. I learned a few history facts and truly enjoyed my time lost in the pages of My Daughter’s Legacy.

  • Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould have collaborated on a number of novels. “My Daughter’s Legacy” is the third book in their Cousins of the Dove series.

  • The emotion from one of our nation’s most painful times in history coupled with the contemporary story of recovery and restoration from addiction drew me into this story and wouldn’t let me go. While this book is the third book in the Cousins Of The Dove series, it can be read as a stand-alone. This one is keeper shelf material for sure!

  • This book is told from two different points of views, over a hundred years apart. Normally, that’s a  big no for me. However,  I fell in love with the unique writing styles, relatable characters, and the story.

  • The series is well versed and had very good flow. I really enjoyed learning more about this family and the difficult choices they had to face.

  • These characters are well written and seem so tangible. There are twists and turns and I could not wait to get to the next page. Kudos to the authors for a great book that kept me on the edge of my seat.

  • My Daughter’s Legacy is the third, and final, book in the Cousins of the Dove series by Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould. Each book follows two stories: one historical and one modern day. The historical story is new in each book, but the modern-day mystery is woven throughout all three books. Fans of the Cousins of the Dove series will appreciate this final book and the exciting way the past and present combine to solve a decades-old mystery…

  • The story in all three books are about strong Talbot woman, and this like the former books spans generations, with one being current time and the other during the Civil War.
As we span the centuries we are caught up quickly in each of the stories that come together and conclude over an artifact, but how it ends is amazing. I was quickly absorbed in Therese life and her beliefs against slavery, and how she played a part in fighting the injustice.

  • This is the first book I read by either of these authors, and I am for sure going to read the first two books in this series because I enjoyed this book that much. If you aren’t the biggest fan of historical fiction, I think that this book would be a good fit for you.

  • That being said, I went into the novel without any knowledge of the previous books, and I had no problems reading it. The novels has two different storylines, one in the present day one set during the Civil War, which the stories intertwines together. All the characters are interesting, the descriptions are very detailed, and the dialogue is believable.

Overall, I enjoyed reading My Daughter’s Legacy. It’s a well-written, emotional novel, and I recommend it to other readers.

  • An incredible story of two women born years apart who face similar struggles and are tied together not only by family but by the mysterious disappearance of an important family artifact.

  • I found both plots very intriguing, and I really loved how the story switched from present day to the Civil War and how they tied together with each other. It was really neat to follow a story set in two different eras, and the authors did an excellent job of the transitions between the two. I had no problem discerning between two and following the plot line.

  • My Daughter’s Legacy by Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould weaves together two tales about a family with a legacy of Christian values and courage in the face of insurmountable odds. With complex characters from both the era of the Civil War and the present day, readers learn about the Talbot women. My Daughter’s Legacy will keep readers turning the pages late into the night.

  • Centraleast2 says:

I really enjoyed how this book went back and forth between the past and present to tell the story. It gives you the background and lets you know the outcome. I did not find it hard to keep up with the story as it was written.

  • My Daughter’s Legacy has two interesting aspects related to how it is written. One is that the story during present day is told in first person. I feel that is not always easy to pull off. And the second aspect is the authors brilliantly parallel two stories from two different eras.

  • Overall, “My Daughter’s Legacy” was a satisfying tale of faith and redemption. I loved seeing the far-reaching effects our ancestors sometimes have on our current lives. I need to pick up the previous books in this series to learn the rest of the story!

  • For an intriguing look at history and mystery, this is a series that will fit the bill!

  • The book is worth reading just be prepared for awkward & repeated transitions from present to the past.

  • Moments says:

Leslie and Mindy prove that they are a great team as this has been a great series and I love how the two storylines are tied together.  At first, I was unsure how they were both going to meld together, but they do.  Both women are strong characters and easy to connect with.  I love the suspense tied in along with the family drama and personal issues.

  • I really like the format of this book and how they talk about history and present day characters. These two authors are phenomenal and I knew this book would be good and it was!

  • Fic Gal says:

This is the third book in a series and I was able to just jump right in. I would have preferred the story to not jump back and forth as much as it did. The past and the present are woven into the story but it kind of felt like two stories that were thrown together. They were connected but just as I was getting into one storyline I was pulled back to the other one.

  • By The Book says:

My Daughter’s Legacy is the outstanding conclusion to Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould’s 3-book series, Cousins of The Dove. All three combine history, mystery, romance, and a family saga that spans several centuries. This novel continues the present-day mystery for the four Talbot cousins and introduces the Civil War tale of courage, faith and conviction of their great+-grandparents.

  • Both timelines were complete stories in and of themselves. Putting them together with connections to the same family, showing how both present and past heroines must deal with what life throws at them: old loves, new loves, spies, counterfeiting, and murder. I enjoyed the back and forth between the timelines and stories and appreciated the extra art that was included with the heroine’s name to put us in the right mood for the time and story of that chapter.

  • I can’t recommend THE COUSINS OF THE DOVE series enough.

  • I loved this book. I thought the pull between the two characters from different centuries was intriguing. I did find myself more attached to one character more than the other. The storyline was a mixed of historical fiction with mystery. I didn’t feel like it was predictable at all, which was refreshing. I also liked that the book could stand alone since I have not read the other books in the series.

  • This is a wonderful story that any fan of historical fiction is sure to enjoy. Interweaving stories of two women in two different time periods, the authors build a unique tale, where we learn of the connections between past and present, and the importance of legacy. Both women are flawed, but they are women of faith, ready to tackle the obstacles they face with integrity and grit.

  • Iola Goulton says:

In the end, both stories delivered both in terms of suspense and in terms of romance. Recommended.

  • My Daughter’s Legacy frankly blew me out of the water. Another book that kept me guessing, routinely checking my watch in anticipation of my next bit of down time to sneak in a few more pages!

  • My Daughter’s Legacy is a unique book in my opinion because it is written in dueling time periods. The two female lead characters are distantly related and their stories are nicely woven together throughout the book. The authors use alternating chapters to tell each woman’s story. At first I wasn’t sure I would like that but in the end, I did enjoy the writing method and story. I found that the seemingly separate, yet intertwined, stories were very interesting and easy to follow.

  • More of Him says:

I really found myself invested in these characters and enjoyed each and every moment spent with them through these pages. I really think you’ll like this book and give it 5 out of 5 stars.

  • There was never a moment reading this novel that I ever got bored. This was a great detailed story, each scene evolving page after page until the very end. A worthy read for anyone!

  • Kudos to the writing team of Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould for crafting an engrossing novel that speaks with one voice. In My Daughter’s Legacy you get war, romance, mystery and murder, literally a story in which to immerse yourself. Pacing of these dual timelines was perfect because several chapters are spent with each character’s story, and both stories were intriguing in their own way. Therese and Nicole are connected by an invisible thread of convictions, courage, and faith … and of living by faith instead of being cowered by fear.

  • Book by Book says:

The third Cousins of the Dove novel, My Daughter’s Legacy, offers lovers of historical and contemporary fiction a story to enjoy. With two interconnected storylines, Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould tell their story of faith, family, and freedom in a way that excellently heightens all its suspense and romance.

  • My second most favorite era, the Civil War. I don’t generally care for books that switch back and forth between time periods, but this one transitions easily. This is the first book I’ve read by either of these authors, but surely won’t be my last.

  • Well written and researched meticulously. I loved how this series has a bit of mystery and intrigue as well.

  • You will be left slack-jawed at each woman’s discovery! Clark and Gould make a very effective writing duo, and I highly recommend this novel to everyone!!

  • This book was amazing with great writing and was compelling to read

  • I enjoyed reading this book, it had all the elements that I enjoy in the novel (most do), and it was a pleasure to read on a windy afternoon. I was a bit lost with the present story of Nicole and had only jumped into this series at this book. Though feeling like I was missing prior stories, it didn’t ruin the story or style for me. I really enjoyed Nicole and her personal struggle, I felt like she was a real person dealing with such issues of addiction. It isn’t easy, and the book didn’t sugar coat that, the author made her human with a flaw. A good reminder to us as readers that we have flaws and God can still love us.

  • This is a tale of two women, but my heart resonated most with Therese in 1864 Virginia where she eventually leads a life of service and danger.

  • Two separate stories yet intertwined. One current and one from years long ago but both of the women had a heart for Jesus and service. Look forward to reading more from these authors!! An inspiring read when circumstances challenge us.

  • Clark and Gould fascinate with My Daughter’s Legacy!  I loved the parallel stories happening in this one, and these authors are masters of this technique.  Intertwining the historical story with the modern-day component keeps the interest high and the pages turning.

  • For an intriguing look at history and mystery, this is a series that will fit the bill!

  • My Daughters Legacy is a book written by authors Mindy Starns Clark & Leslie Gould. Based in the Civil War Era, this book is sure to please if you are a fan of the time. It’s a fictional tale based on history, love & mystery that is intriguing to the reader.

It’s well written and I enjoyed each page. I was picturing each detail as described as it kept my attention throughout the book. It’s a captivating read with key points that leave you wanting more. I would recommend this book to anybody!

  • My Thoughts On The Book:  My Daughters Legacy, the third of a series, is a most interesting book with its flipping time periods.  I loved the way the story line switched back and forth from then until now.

  • Noveltea says:

Oh my lands, people. This book grabbed me by the second page and wow. I applaud the authors. If the book would have been shorter, its rather doubtful that I would have put it down, before finishing it.

  • My Daughter’s Legacy is book three in the Cousins of the Dove Series by Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould. This book is a wonderful piece of historical fiction. Take a visit back

  • I fell in love with this book from the opening page. As soon as the story began, I found myself not wanting to put it down.

  • I really liked this book because it tied together historical fiction (with romance and suspense) in with a present-day mystery (and romance). We know Nicole’s story and what she’s dealing with, but as we read the book, we realize how much Therese’s story ties in with Nicole’s – and we find out a lot of answers.

  • This one was wonderful! I love how the story was split between the present and the Civil War era. I look forward to going back and reading the previous books!

  • I really enjoyed this book. I liked reading about the life of a character’s ancestor and as well the characters. The trials of each person kept me hooked until the end of the book. The whole series was really interesting and definitely a must read.

  • My Daughter’s Legacy is the third novel in the Cousins of Dove trilogy, and it wraps up a truly intriguing mystery that has stretched across the three novels. I picked up this book without realizing it was the last book, but I still heartily enjoyed the mystery and suspense of Nicole’s past, along with the other three girls. I thought the authors did an excellent job creating both a good conclusion and an interesting stand alone novel. The novel delves into two women’s lives, one in modern day Virginia, and the other in a Civil War torn Richmond.

  • My Daughter’s Legacy by Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould is an excellent book! I loved the story, the characters, and the unique style of the writing. As the story went back and forth between the historical and contemporary settings, I couldn’t tell which author wrote what. This is truly a good writing duo. While moving back and forth between the two stories is confusing to some readers, I have always enjoyed the stories even more. This book did not disappoint. I highly recommend My Daughter’s Legacy.

  • I so enjoyed this final book in this interesting series!  The authors did a great job of blending the story between past and present to make it easy to read and follow each timeline.  The look at the past in each book was especially captivating.  I liked learning about Richmond near the end of the Civil War and what life was like in this southern city.  The romantic angle for both Therese and Nicole was also one that piqued my interest.  I do recommend reading these books in order.  For an intriguing look at history and mystery, this is a series that will fit the bill!

  • Even if your not a fan of Historical Romance or Suspense. Or of
Contemporary Romance and Suspense take a plunge and this series a try!
The set would make a great Christmas gift!

  • This was a wonderful story. I absolutely loved how it went between the past and present. The author did a good job on telling this story and giving you lots of background on it. This was my first book out of the series and I didn’t feel lost since there was enough for me to know. Loved the characters and the history it’s just one of these books I could read over and over. Looking forward to reading more.

  • I didn’t realize this was the third book in the series until after I read it. So I’m sure reading the first two in the series would have really helped with the back story and would have made this third book in a way easier to read/understand. I really like the dual story aspect to it. I hate being critical of any books, but if there was one thing I would say this didn’t quite grab my attention like some books, and the only thing I can figure is that it was just a little bit confusing to me because of the names and maybe it being the third book played into that too. It’s still a great book, just one to make sure your thinking cap is on as you read (and maybe that’s just me – I’ve read other reviews, and didn’t find that to be a theme).

  • Oh boy. Another book that makes me need/want to read the prior books. Not only to help make more sense of the story-line (my fault, I knew this signing up for this review) but because it was so good. I loved how the story went from historic 1864 Virginia to Virginia present day and how the two stories are connected through history and family that flow into one story. This story was full of action, mystery, and a few plot twists that I did not suspect. Yes, the story starts out a bit slow for my liking, but I am glad I hung on because it gets good. I admired Theresa and her values even though they contradicted the cultural norm of that time.I can’t wait to read the first two books in this series!

  • What a great story about genealogy. We all come from someone, and we never really know how much we intertwined with our ancestors.
