  • `Sacred Rest` is a 30-day journey on resting the body, mind, and spirit. If we don’t rest our bodies we are sure to burn-out. Part one uses stories, research, reflection, and application as tools to understanding rest. Part two discusses the spiritual side of rest and part three is the Promises of Rest. I decided to review this book to learn about the spiritual side of rest.

  • We all need to try to rest, but it is so hard. This is a great reminder of that.

  • I found the book’s tone and applications approachable, implementable, and — frankly — convicting. It encourages interaction, suggesting that the reader start with a (provided) self-assessment prior to deep-diving. (Hence the convicting descriptor, as I found several areas I could stand to seriously rest!) An encouraging read for men and women alike. I believe everyone can find multiple takeaways to implement.

  • We need to be reminded that rest is a godly discipline. God designed us to need rest. I didn’t realize that there are several kinds of rest we need. And, sleep is not necessarily rest. Hiking in the mountains can be restful. Rest can be uncomfortable so we keep ourselves busy and distracted. I recommend this good book on a spiritual discipline we too often ignore.

  • I needed this book, to help me start off the new year feeling more energized. I have thought about the physical rest (and how I need more), but hadn’t considered the other ways one needs to rest. This book is excellent!

    This is a great book for each and every person to read! Life is so busy, the everyday life and responsibilities that go along with everything that it seems as if every second we are doing something or connected, as we are constantly checking e-mail, social media feeds, etc, when we are not interacting face to face with someone. “Sacred Rest” addresses why rest is so important and the benefits or gifts that come from rest.

  • There are so many great points in Sacred Rest. It is a journey, and I appreciated the author’s format and purpose in having shorter chapters. It’s a book to come back to. It’s a book that you can put down, but as easily, be able to pick it back up. A reminder of what we need, as well as what it represent, Sacred Rest touches on all aspect of our lives – from health to relationships to finding solace in God’s presence.

Saundra Dalton-Smith, MD combines research with experience, identifying seven areas of rest in which we are deficient and offering insightful solutions for these deficiencies. A wealth of information, Sacred Rest enlightens and encourages readers to embrace the gifts of rest in order to “recover your life, renew your energy, and restore your sanity.” What a wonderful and worthy challenge!
