Seeds of Hope

Seeds of Hope (Gilead, November 2017)

A heartwarming tale of discovering love right in front of you

Miriam Troyer has had a secret crush on Mark Byler since she was a teenager, but she knows they can never have a relationship: Mark is a big-city attorney and an Englischer. Her Amish community is too far removed from all he knows–and she loves her quiet way of life.

Mark has always loved his visits to his grandfather’s farm, but he’s convinced the Amish life isn’t for him. There’s so much of the world to see and experience, and the excitement of his successful law practice can’t be matched by the slow pace of life found back home in the country.

But when things go wrong and his firm distances itself from him to try to save themselves, Mark finds himself back at his grandfather’s farm. Could life in this simple world be worth living after all? Especially when the teenager he remembers has grown into a woman that could be his future. Suddenly, these two people whose lives seem so far apart may get a chance to really see each other for the first time.

  • Ms. Cameron does a wonderful job of comparing the two life styles during the course of the novel.

  • I find it interesting when an Amish novel contains a blend of the Plain life and Englisch living. In Seeds of Hope, author Barbara Cameron set up a good contrast between the two. In the story, main character Miriam took time out of her day to deliver meals to an elderly neighbor. This is something I enjoy doing, too, so it made me relate to her.

  • “Seeds of Hope” is just what the title says, it is a book that holds the hope of a future between 2 very different people.  Mark is out of work and he decides to come to his family farm. They are Amish but he has never wanted to be like them. Mariam is Amish and she really feels a lot for him. Mark has finally seen Mariam as an adult and he might be having feelings for her. But, he still does not feel as if he wants to be Amish. What should they do?

  • Seeds of Hope is the beginning to a new series by Barbara Cameron called Harvest of Hope. I enjoyed Miriam and her interaction with Mark. And I liked the elements of faith and inspiration.
I thought Seed of Hope was, for the most part, a good read. There were some slow parts, but overall, I believe Amish Fiction fans would like the story. Definitely worth reading.

  • Seeds of Hope is a sweet story of deep and lasting love – between family, between friends, and between neighbors.  I love the way that Cameron portrays the relationships between this Amish community in Paradise, Pennsylvania.

Just like in real life, there’s a variety of relationships here, and I like the way that Cameron wove them together.  It made for a fun story, and bringing in these people serve not only as great examples of model behavior but also an avenue for introducing interesting subplots.

  • If you like Amish fiction and Barbara Cameron, you might want to read SEEDS OF HOPE.

  • I LOVE how the book really brings the 2 worlds together and although hesitant at first, doors open and hearts change for Mark who never imagined himself loving the Amish farmlife. I really enjoyed Seeds of Hope and seeing the twists and turns in the book. The book was a constant page turner, very hard to put down!

  • I appreciate when authors are able to bring two people together from different backgrounds and make their love story seem plausible. That is what the author did in Seeds of Hope. She created a scenario that placed Mark in a situation that he never envisioned for himself. It was more realistic than a typical fish out of water story, since Mark did grow up visiting his Amish grandfather and spent a good bit of time learning how the Amish lived when he was a teenager. I liked the fact that even though he was very comfortable in the city, Mark seemed to flow right back into the Amish community.

  • The story warms your heart and gives hope to those who seek answers to their future. I loved how the characters trusted God and turned to Him when they needed help. The scriptures throughout the book are perfect for the story. A farmer plants seeds with hope that it will grow and produce. What seeds have been planted in your life?

  • Growing up and moving on, a young Amish woman’s faith is put to the test in this book set in Paradise Pennsylvania. Miriam has grown up hoping to achieve her ultimate dream of being a wife and mother, but she set her sights on Mark Byler, the name suggests Amish, but his father left the faith, and he is now a defense attorney.

  • Kcreatives says:

I have gotten to like Amish fiction. And this one is a good one. Yes, I think all amish fiction is somewhat predictable, but there are twists and turns to this one that I like and I found the story compelling from the beginning.

  • I was intrigued by the author’s writing style after reading the first paragraph, which features the character Miriam glancing at the Amish landscape. The descriptions of the land is beautifully written, and I’m glad to say that the entire novel is written in the same manner. The main characters, Miriam and Mark, are very likeable, which is also a plus in my eyes when reading any book.

  • Seeds of Hope is a beautiful story of hope, faith and pushing past old beliefs. It is about following your heart and allowing God to speak to you freely with you listening to him. While our past will always be there to guide us, it does not have to determine our future as these two learned. We can build and create a new future based on hope and love. This is a well written, sweet novel that I truly enjoyed reading.

  • I find it so intriguing and engaging when an Amish novel contains a blend of the Plain life and English living, in fact, that seems to be the only Amish fiction I am drawn too!

In Seeds of Hope, author Barbara Cameron set up a good contrast between the two lifestyles, contrasting big city life with the Amish with things like air conditioning. The whole scene with Miriam and Mark and the “fancy Englisch car” was so well written. Oh how he started to realize all he took for granted in his big city life!

  • This is the first book in a new series by this author. I thought it was a good start and look forward to more in the series. The characters were well developed and made me think of them as real people that we may all know.

  • This is such an incredible novel that conveys the need for loyalty and love of family. It goes beyond what others might want especially in the big city of Philadelphia, who seemed to distance themselves from the negative publicity even his fiancè, Tiffany. It is a valuable lesson on what we define as important to us, and Mark soon realizes that money can’t buy everything he once thought it could and that the love of close family and friends is indeed priceless.

  • I love a good love story and this one really resonated with me. I love how Cameron brought two people from totally different backgrounds together with a love story that will tug at your heart strings. The book is well written and easy to follow. It offers a steady pace and well developed, relatable characters. It’s the first book in the Harvest of Hope series and I can’t wait to read the next one.

  • I can relate to John Byler’s desire for his nephew Mark, to carry on their families’s tradition of farming, while we don’t have a farm to pass on to our children I also hope that they will want to carry on with our own family traditions. Another great read by Barbara.

  • Moments says:

Barbara Cameron’s latest Amish fiction novel, “Seeds of Hope” is such a beautiful story and just a nice book to read that will leave you with a smile. Miriam and Mark spent time together when Mark would spend summers on his grandfather’s farm and Miriam found herself falling in love with him. However, that was years ago when they were teenagers and Mark is living such a different life than her that she knows there could never be a future, mostly due to the fact that he is not Amish or living an Amish life.

  • Seeds of Hope by Barbara Cameron is a sweet Amish fiction novel. I always enjoy books in this genre so I wasn’t shocked when I fell in love this this book. I have read several other books by this author so I hoped that I would enjoy this one like I did those books.

  • Hope. Everyone needs to Hope. Seeds of Hope is a story that makes you realize that you can Hope.

A super fast read. A page turner. The author does a great job
of bringing the Amish and the Englisch worlds together.

  • This is the first book that I have read by this author. I enjoyed the meshing of Plain life and English life. The two different ways of living are woven together in a delightful story. The characters are well developed and the story draws you in. I love Amish Fiction, and now am a huge fan of this author.

  • I really enjoyed Seeds of Hope, and read it quite quickly because I had to find out what happened! When two people from different worlds fall in love and being together seems impossible, of course everyone is rooting for them to end up together. Miriam and Mark had to learn to trust God to pave the way for them to have a future together.

  • I found the storyline to be real and the characters to be authentic. I love how the characters each struggle with different aspects of life and faith. I found this book to be enjoyable and was well written. Amish fans will truly enjoy this wonderful story!

  • There are a lot of ups and downs in this book but it is great!

  • It’s been sometime since I read a Barbara Cameron novel and I was glad to get the chance to read this book. Ms. Cameron’s writing style was a refreshing change in pace for me, and I was swept away in by Miriam and Mark and the Amish world.

  • There’s quite a bit of talk of faith, especially as Mark, Miriam and others try to figure out the right thing to do about some teenagers running a buggy off the road and causing injuries.

  • I have a soft spot for books about the Amish. Their way of life fascinates me. Although Seeds of Hope is a fiction book, it still resonates closely to Amish conduct.

  • This book reminds me although hardships and trails happen in every one’s life, in the end they can turn into something good. Barbara Cameron leaves us with a ending that doesn’t disappoint making Seeds of Hope a great read!

  • I haven’t read any of Barbara Cameron books prior to this review. I look forward to exploring more of her titles in the future.

  • This was a typical Amish and English falling in love story. I enjoyed it and will be looking forward to other in this series. I enjoy reading Amish book that are set in Lancaster County as I live in Lancaster County and like to see if I recognize any of the landmarks.

  • As I read this story, I was impressed at the respect the author gave towards the Amish culture. She also portrayed a realistic situation where two people with completely different backgrounds are able to develop a relationship. I fell in love with both characters; Miriam and Mark.

  • Barbara Cameron is a consistent writer, always delivering on appealing characters, realistic conflict, an emotional tug at the heart, and spiritual gems to reflect upon. Miriam and Mark’s story is a great beginning to the new Harvest of Hope series.

  • I love the cover of this book! I know you cannot judge a book by its cover, but the beauty of the outside matches the inside story as well. The word hope is the perfect word for this title, and its message is truly the theme running throughout the pages of this text. Hope and grace are reflected in the daily decisions of the Amish that live in this town, because they are in tune to the needs of others.

  • I can’t wait for y’all to read this excellent book by Barbara Cameron!!
Barbara is an excellent writer who can blend everything nicely in the best of both worlds.

  • There are times when a book really sticks out, and this is one of those books. Not for its style of writing or for its glamorous story, but simply for its relatability. It’s a good page turner and I would recommend anyone it to anybody to read.

  • This was an enjoyable read that was easy and quick. There wasn’t a ton going on in this book but it was enjoyable with enough going on to keep the reader engaged without being too overwhelming. The characters were engaging and the romance was sweet and I liked how it developed between two people with very different background. A sweet love story for anyone who likes Amish fiction.

  • Whenever I am looking for an Amish fiction book to devour, Barbara Cameron is one of the names that I look for on the shelves. When I saw she had a new book out, I was very excited to start a brand new series with her!

  • Great read. As most Amish fiction, this is a nice read. Not a fast read but a nice slow read that you are still drawn into and feel as if these characters are your friends.
