  • In Tightropes and Teeter-totters by Lisa Pennington, this is one of my favorite lines: “Finding balance is not a onetime action; it requires repeatedly stepping back and looking at how we react and respond to the things that throw us off.”

  • Tightropes and Teeter-Totters is a delightful read for any woman looking to find a bit more balance in her life. This book is written in such a unique style as the author is simply hilarious! She is right there with you, discovering how to find balance in her own life, so you feel like your on a journey with your best friend. This book covers areas like marriage, self-care, your spiritual walk and more. I love the practical action steps listed with an easy to remember acronym. This book provides so many helpful strategies for thriving as a wife and Mama. I highly recommend this book!

  • Tightropes and Teeter-Totters provides great reminders about how to more effectively keep your life in balance. Written from a Christian perspective, Pennington’s book is as an easy read that supplies plenty to think about and reflect upon long after reading it.

  • Lisa offers much-needed encouragement to the worn out and weary woman trying to juggle a million things and wearing many hats. And she even offers a laugh or two! Each chapter contains personal story, scriptural focus, a laugh, and practical application. Because I’m a list maker, I appreciated how much of Lisa’s information was organized into easy to remember “lists”. This book is well worth the time it takes to read through it. It is practical and much needed!

  • Are you all ready to laugh? Ready for Pennington to share stories with you? Ready to get Balance in your life? You have got to read this book.

  • Tightropes and Teeter-Totters made me laugh and cry, as I discovered how to stay balanced during the storms life throws at me. Using honest, real-life situations,  Lisa Pennington leads women in pursuit of the equilibrium that enables us to serve the Lord and our families with joy.

  • This was my first book by this author and I am glad that I was able to read this book. I learned a lot in this book and had some laughs as well. This is a good book for every woman to read. It will help you through your hard times. I read this book on a day I was feeling bumbed and it lifted my spirits after reading this.

The author did a great job on writing this book. She did a very good job on writing realistic every day life struggles. I also loved how there were stories about every chapter that were personal, scriptures. A job well done.

Recommend for every woman who needs to find balance in there life. You will love this book.

  • Perfection and control wreck my world. Actually not being able to obtain them is the problem. It is a relief to find out those things, as well as what is working for someone else, do not need to affect me negatively any longer. Reading the book shown below with a sincere prayer to God has helped me to let go of these deceptions.

The author’s definition of balance involves seven steps … one for each letter of the word B-A-L-A-N-C-E. The ones I struggle with are beginning, accounting and enduring. (No, there’s no math required in balancing. If so, I’d ace it! LOL) The easiest one for me is learning – which is the one I spend way to much time on! What are the other three steps? You’ll have to read the book to find out.

  • The author’s conversational tone and examples really make the book. The author is the mother of 9 children so you definitely feel she has the experience to help you try to find your personal balance. She is encouraging and offers realistic expectations of what those changes can mean to your life.

  • Lisa Pennington helps us find balance in Tightropes and Tetter-Totters. As moms we juggle (and struggle) with so many responsibilities, it’s easy to lose the balance in life. Lisa Pennington takes a look at many specific areas of life including parenting, marriage, self-care, home and more and shows us how to restore and claim the balance in each area.

I especially liked the chapter on self-care. Frequently, we feel like self-care is selfish. When we take time for self-care to rejuvenate and recharge it benefits you and your family because you will be better prepared to care for them.

If you struggle with balance in life and feel overwhelmed, Tightropes and Tetter-Totters will help you refocus and find your balance.

  • One of my favorite parts of Tightropes and Teeter-Totters was how Lisa uses so much humor to impart wisdom. I loved reading stories about her mishaps, foibles, and embarrassing moments because I could relate so much to her life! The transparency and honesty in this book was so refreshing. Lisa never pretends to be perfect. In fact, she painstakingly communicates how she’s coming along beside you to change and find balance, because she struggles with it too!

  • The author did a fantastic job of relating the things I need to work on to balance everyday life within my household.

  • SK Bell says:

Tightropes and Teeter-Totters was a pretty good book that focuses on finding balance in marriage and motherhood. Nobody is perfect and nobody can achieve it all–and especially not all at once–which is sometimes hard to remember! There were also tips for finding balance when you’re just in a bad mood kinda funk.

  • Mothers will appreciate Lisa Pennington’s insight and experience from raising  and homeschooling nine children. All readers will love the author’s humor which will cause them (if they are anything like me) to laugh aloud! This is just a well-balanced reminder to view life through an eternal perspective and to glorify God with every day!

I recommend this book for mothers and even girls interested in learning more about the heart of wifehood/motherhood.

  • Moments says:

I really enjoyed reading “Tightropes and Teeter-Totters: finding balance in the ups and downs of life,” as I felt like it was something I really needed to “hear” (read) at this time.  Lisa begins the book by opening her heart and sharing some struggles in her life.  This made me feel as if I knew her, but also made me ready to dive into reading thinking hey this woman understands struggles and will be easy to relate to and I was not disappointed.

  • Heartfelt and insightful, Tightropes and Teeter-Totters is a great resource for women! From marriage and motherhood to money and more, the author addresses key areas of life in which women often struggle to find their footing. Sharing her own experiences, as well as biblical inspiration, Pennington offers practical suggestions and strategies for finding balance in the up and down struggles of life. Everyone needs encouragement, and Lisa Pennington offers that and more!

  • Buzz4Mommies says:

I think finding balance in your life is something that everyone struggles with from time to time. I can only speak as a woman and mother, but I know I struggle with it often. Lisa Pennington guides us through different parts of our lives in this devotional and helps to give us strategies for balance. I am in love with her whole writing style. She is so funny and candid yet gracious. Her personal stories really make this book. The fact that she is so honest with her own struggles with balance helps me to feel like I am not in this alone. We really aren’t with God on our side!

  • I very much enjoyed this book! The author does a wonderful job of making the reader feel like this is a chat between friends. She is hilarious as she shares about discovering balance in your life. I love that she is in the same journey as well, which makes it even easier to relate to her and enjoy this book. Whether you are looking to balance your life in the area of finances, being a wife or mom, or friendships, along with a myriad of other topics, this book is an excellent one to pick up.

  • Lisa Pennington is funny, charismatic and her writing style is like talking to a friend. I love her humor, seriously I can totally see myself being friends with her. As she shares her personal stories and struggles she incorporates ways for us to work through the parts of life that can sometimes cause us to feel overwhelmed or “out of balance”. I especially enjoyed the chapters on Motherhood, Marriage, and Home.

  • Balance is something that is nearly sacred for me. I love and crave stability, order, and balance almost (maybe not almost) that it sets me into a downward spiral when I don’t have balance. You guys, it’s bad. I seriously cannot think sometimes when things get too out of control. And it makes me very cranky – not good.

Tightropes and Teeter-Totters was a great read for me, in that it helped me learn some new tactics for finding balance as well as how to walk through situations that may not be so balanced.

  • Tightropes and Teeter-Totters is Lisa Pennington’s recent book for women but to me it was like a real chat with a dear friend. Lisa’s writing was very down to earth, humorous (tears rolling down my face laughing), uplifting, and helpful. At times it was like she was holding up a mirror to my life and I could see how very much I was out of balance. That is what I really liked about this book. We as women tend to want to be in control and we strive for perfection which neither one are an attainable goal. What is attainable is balance in our lives. Not without hard work, or falling down sometimes, but a worthy goal that is possible.

  • Every mother I have ever met, no matter what walk of life she is from, struggles with balance in her life. This book offers very helpful ways of finding where your life is out of balance and how to bring it back into balance. I loved the author’s humor sprinkled throughout. This is a very helpful and encouraging resource for mothers everywhere.

  • What a book for this mom. I certainly have felt the struggle of balancing my life. This book gave some great ideas and has become a tool for my living.

  • In this book, the author understands that we are all on this “see-saw” of life, trying to balance everything between work, family, being the perfect spouse, being the perfect parent, feeling guilt over what we do, feeling guilt over what we don’t do,etc. etc. She talks about balance and how it looks different for everyone. She uses an acronym for balance that will help you go through situations and: begin, assess, learn, account, notify, change, and endure. As the reader goes through the book, Pennington will help the reader apply all of these things to personal growth, spiritual growth, marriage, parenting, maintaining the household, finances, mood swings, friendships – basically every single tenet in life that we probably feel we’re out of balance in and failing at!

  • Most women are looking for a way to get it done and find a little balance in their lives and have probably felt they were walking a ‘tight rope’ or holding on to a ‘teeter-totter’ at one time or another. Lisa Pennington shares a delightful resource with strategies and steps to follow to overcome stress, find balance and inspiration.

  • I wasn’t prepared for the ouch that accompanied some of Lisa’s chapters. She writes truthfully, like the good friend who will tell you something negative that you need to hear, but softens it with a hug and genuine encouragement.

Lisa has developed an acronym from the word Balance that she uses to address many aspects of a woman’s life: her home, her marriage, her children, her job, her ministry, and her friendships. Using these steps to examine each area that is out of balance, she provides a framework for getting life back in balance.

Yes, if you read Tightropes and Teeter-Totters, you might say ouch a time or two. But you will also be encouraged to re-prioritize, take steps to change, and to persevere.

  • Kcreatives says:

I love how Lisa weaves in personal stories and laughter in her books. We as women do like to appear we have it altogether, but there is no trick to having it perfect. This will engage you wherever you are and give you some tips and verses to keep going.

  • Pray Species says:

Pennington introduces BALANCE as an acronym that can help you make positive changes in your life.

Her personal stories are entertaining and relevant, her discussion passionate as she conveys a true desire to empower you to build a relationship with God and find balance in your life.

The result is that while you walk away with more to work to do to achieve balance, you are often much clearer on what areas of your life need the most help and focus.

Tightropes and Teeter-Totters might just be the jump start you need to start picking up the pieces in a broken part of your life.

  • EmpowerMoms says:

The author starts off by describing the old teeter totters on the playgrounds (I loved them!) and how falling is a part of life and that life is about balance. “Falling, getting up, trying again, over and over, is how we learn.”

Balance is NOT about perfection, control, comfort, or the exact formula (because one specific thing doesn’t work for everyone). Balance is our intentional reaction to something and looking at areas in our lives that aren’t working and making specific actions to change them.

  • This is a fun and lighthearted book about balance that will make you smile. Most will likely relate to the author and her attempt to find the balance in her own life as she shares her stories and humor on the page. Life is not always smooth and sometimes it can get quite bumpy, but this book will encourage the reader with the Word of God and inspire them to live life fully balanced, even when it seems like you are on a tightrope. Definitely a hope-filled read!

  • As mothers, we take a lot upon our shoulders and if we’re not careful we will find ourselves off balance, cranky and quite honestly, no fun to be around. ‘Tightropes and Teeter Totters’ can help us find that balance with practical and entertaining tips, as well as biblical truths. It will also serve as a great reminder that no matter how put together and balanced all the other moms seem to have it, we truly are not alone in feeling like we’re high on that rope and one tiny breath could knock us right over.

  • Lisa Pennington was truly inspired when she wrote her book Tightropes and Teeter-Totters: Finding Balance in the Ups and Downs of Life. As the title indicates, this book discusses how to find balance in life. Whether it is during the good times or the bad times. Pennington discusses different ways to find Balance by using acronyms—Begin; Assess; Learn; Account; Notify; Change; and Endure. These can be used in all aspects of life, including finding time for oneself, finding time as a couple, finding time as a mother, etc.

  • I loved this book that really speaks to the Mommy’s soul from one who has experienced a lot (having 9 kids would do that to you!). This book helps one navigate the ups and downs of being a Mom and ways to center your days so you can face whatever comes your way. This book really strengthened and encouraged me,helping reminding me that I am not alone in this delightfully exhausting journey called Motherhood.

  • It is a funny & down to earth book about motherhood & everything in between. Her advice is flawless This is a book I highly recommend that all women read.

  • Fruitbearers says:

I can relate to her pretty well since she is an introvert, list-maker, and homeschooling mom like me :). I appreciate her transparency, humor, insights, and Biblically-based advice. Live intentionally; find balance and beauty in your lives. Check out this encouraging read!

  • Ever wonder how some Christian women seem to stay calm & steady regardless of the situation, and others sway in the wind? No matter where you fall within that spectrum, Pennington’s book is a fantastic one for helping you seek or further establish balance in your life. Multitasking our roles as wives, moms, careers & managing a household can be overwhelming; finding ways to seek balance, embracing self-affirmation, identifying our weak areas, and relying in Christ are critical components to living the life God has planned for us. Tightropes and Teeter-Totters: Finding Balance in the Ups and Downs of Life is a great and authentic resource!

  • For any woman struggling with balancing work, home, family, children, friends, finances, diet, exercise or any other area, Lisa Pennington’s candidly written Tightropes & Teeter-Totters offers practical, easy to follow suggestions on how to manage even the toughest of circumstances.

  • Life is crazy and chaotic at times, and I myself have trouble finding the balance between my life roles. This book is well written and easy to follow, and gets to the root of most problems. It wasn’t a boring and dry read, and I often found myself nodding in agreement.

  • The Mama Den says:

Great book for women from all walks of life. Finding balance in all that we do is tough and I love how Lisa breaks it down into east steps with real life examples.

This was an easy read and made me feel like I was chatting with a friend and sipping tea.

    I highly recommend!

  • Lisa drew me in from the first pages of Tightropes and Teeter-Totters. She has a great sense of humour, and left me laughing while feeling like she understood my life. She’s honest about the fact that what she shares is stuff she’s learned from experience.
