Unsinkable Faith: God-Filled Strategies to Transform the Way You Think, Feel, and Live (David C. Cook, April 2017)

For many people, remaining optimistic and feeling positive about themselves and their lives is a constant battle — especially when circumstances are difficult and life is hard.

For others, negativity is something that only sneaks up from time to time, yet still wreaks havoc in their hearts. Regardless of the root causes, once pessimistic thoughts permeate our minds, our feelings and emotions begin to control us instead of us controlling them. Eventually it doesn’t seem possible to stay positive, happy, and full of joy, and negative thought patterns shake our faith, causing us to sink emotionally, mentally, and spiritually over time. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Despite what storms roll in, hearts anchored in God don’t sink. When we change the way we think, we can change the way we feel and live, even if our circumstances remain the same. Intentionally embracing the opportunity to experience a transformed heart and a renewed mind opens the door for a changed life, because a positive mind will always lead to a more positive life.

In Unsinkable Faith, author and Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker Tracie Miles offers hope for women who struggle with negativity. Each chapter explores Tracie’s and other women’s personal stories, showing how they rose above their circumstances by transforming and renewing their minds. Unsinkable Faith is a breath of fresh air for anyone longing for a heart full of joy, an unbreakable smile, and a new, more optimistic perspective on life. This book will equip you to:

—Replace pessimism with positive thinking by becoming the captain of your thoughts;
—Learn how true joy and happiness are based on choice, not circumstances;
—Overcome unhealthy habits of negative thinking by intentionally implementing three easy mind-renewing steps;
—Stop feeling hopeless and pitiful, and start feeling hope-filled and powerful instead; and
—Discover that when you change the way you think, you change the way feel, and in turn you can change your life completely.

I also love that this book teaches that it is not realistic to think we will never have these hard times and negative thoughts, but Tracie is simply offering some tools to use as we work through those thoughts. Great read!

  • I really enjoyed this book and loved the insight the author had about our negative thoughts. We all go through trials and sometimes it is hard to have a good attitude. No matter what our circumstances are, we can choose to have a positive attitude or choose to allow the enemy to take us further into despair. In this book the author gives us tools to help us overcome our fears and learn to have a great attitude.

  • Unsinkable Faith is a book enriched with God’s word on just about every page. It would be nearly impossible to read this book and not be overcome by the goodness of God’s truth.

  • Kcreatives says:

    Life doesn’t always go exactly like we plan. But, being grounded in the Word and in the truths of God, and in the character of God will help us stay the course when things don’t go well. And it will help us keep the focus off of ourselves when things are going right. We always need to be training our mind to believe God. This is a helpful book with good strategies!

  • Buzz4Mommies says:

    I love how in this book the author is so candid with her own personal struggles and some of the things that snapped her back. The book is filled with personal stories. Each chapter ends with strategies for transforming your thinking, mind renewing verses, and a chapter challenge. Each of these were such a gift to me to start working towards more peace and joy with God at my side.

  • I appreciated Miles’ willingness to share her own story – both the valleys and the plateaus. This lent great credence to the encouragement she provides the reader; she by no means has had an easy life, and speaks from her heart and her own experience.

  • Highly recommended for individual use, study as a group, discipleship/accountability partners, or for use in counseling others.

  • This review is for the book “Unsinkable Faith” by Tracie Miles. This is a great book, because it is so easy to have that strong, solid faith when things in your life are going well. Often, when a tragedy happens though, you start to sink. Your attitude goes south and you don’t feel peace or joy anymore. But the author sets out to show us how to get through those patches without getting bogged down with a pessimistic mind-set.

  • Moments says:

    “Unsinkable Faith” is one of the best women’s book that I have read!  Tracie Miles has written a book that really caught my attention and is filled with so many tidbits of wisdom.  It was as if Tracie was speaking right to me as she wrote in a conversational style and we were chatting over mugs of coffee.

  • I loved this little book that focuses on being positive. Now I will admit that I am not a negative person. I’m pretty positive and cheerful, but this book really spoke to me as it focused on choosing happiness. It also had a theme of self-forgiveness that ran through it (one of my favorite themes, if you know me!). Each chapter was very easy to read, with examples and stories, along with Bible verses and activities. My review copy was an e-book (thank you!), but I think it is a compact little book that you can leave lying around, just waiting to be discovered!

  • If you combat life everyday in the downside of dwelling this book can offer a lift up into the more positive side of life. If you find yourself dwindling in the spirit this is a great faith based book to jumpstart your mind and spirit. It is truly faith based.

  • Wow, what an awesome book! My entire life I have dealt with negativity, worry, anxiety, fear, and pessimism. From page one of this book, I immediately knew the truths inside would transform my life. Tracie’s honest sharing about the breakup of her marriage made her message all that more trustworthy – she’s just gone through one of the worst events a woman can go through, and she is still able to overcome those negative thoughts and feelings with the power of the word of God. What a testimony!

  • The tools that are laid out in the pages of Unsinkable Faith are priceless, they are changing my life. I am training my thoughts to be like Christ, I am viewing myself in a whole new way. I am viewing my relationships in a whole new light, I am looking at it from the other side and I like what I am seeing. God created our minds to be unique, not to criticize. There are very real truths laid out in the pages of this book, practical tips to tackle our thoughts and make them into the truths they are supposed to be.

  • Unsinkable Faith is a solid and encouraging study on changing our negative thinking into positive thinking; and by realizing and rejecting those negative thoughts, and replacing them with the positive nature of God’s Word.

  • Fic Gal says:

    I think this would be a great book to read at the start of the year when so many of us are making resolutions. I really enjoyed reading about other people because you’re bound to relate to someone in the book. Even though there are other people that feel the same way it can often feel like you’re the only one experiencing whatever it is you’re experiencing even if you know that isn’t true.

  • When Unsinkable Faith came up on my reading list, I had a feeling it was going to be good. Once I dove into it, I realized it is a fantastic tool for guarding one’s mind against those pesky negative thoughts that like to creep up in the worst of moments.

  • God is Love says:

    Unsinkable Faith is an unforgettable book that was skillfully written by Tracie Miles. I marked nearly every page from the start to finish.

  • Tracie shares her personal struggle and other stories in this book, and what she and others did to get out of the pit of despair, sadness, failure, negativity, or whatever it is that causes you to sink. She shares Biblical truths, encouragement, and wisdom so you can be the person God has made you to be and so that you will be able to stand strong in the midst of troubles. We were never promised an easy life, but God did promise He would be there for you.

  • “Unsinkable Faith” by Tracie Miles contains three easy mind-renewing steps to overcome your pessimistic mind-set. If you want to rise above your circumstances and not allow them to control your thoughts and actions, please read Miles’ “Unsinkable Faith”. She will inspire you to think healthy, positive thoughts that will lead you to experience more peace and joy. You won’t just be reading a how-to book. You will participate by using the mind-transforming reflections, mind-renewing memory verses and chapter challenges at the end of each chapter.

  • Life seems to come at us in waves, at least for me. There are periods of calm (the normal day to day routine), excitement (weddings, new babies, first homes, new jobs), and periods that are full of storms (cancer, lost jobs, … insert yours here). Unsinkable Faith is about “finding joy in the everyday.” It isn’t about avoiding the rollercoaster of emotions that come with life. It is about how we choose to react in those situations. Are we going to become bitter when life doesn’t go our way or are we going to rest and rejoice in the life we have?

  • I would recommend this book to anyone who is ready to change and transform their thoughts into more like Christ and they’re ready to grow your faith. It was very eye opening to read how many thoughts we think per day and how 80% are negative. I loved how real and transparent Tracie Miles was and how she shared her personal life story.

  • Take a look around you. Do you ever feel like there is nothing but negativity everywhere?

    Turn on the TV, its bad news. Scroll through your newsfeed- it’s complaining and fighting. Politics, motherhood, what’s to watch on TV or what’s in a drink at Starbucks… everywhere we look people are complaining about something. Seeing it all can really weigh us down… add in real life issues that actually aren’t going well… well, it really is truly very hard to stay positive!

    Today, I’m sharing a book that may just help, Unsinkinkable Faith…

  • This book is chock-full of great information about the effects negative thoughts can have on us. Tracie gives us examples from her own life about how negative thoughts affected her.

  • I really enjoyed this book because it reminds readers that everyone is struggling with something in their lives. The topics covered are important ones and I do believe that almost everyone can not only relate to this book, but would find it helpful. I truly believe if everyone learned to be more positive and hope filled, no matter their circumstances, that we could make this world a much better place.

  • What a great book for all believers. We all struggle with things that bring us down.
    Tracie Mils shares stories and insight to help you keep your’hearts anchored in God don’t sink.’ This is a delightful and easy read.

  • Unsinkable Faith is filled with practical ways to implement and change the way see our hardships. Pointing us straight to the Word and the God who has everything we need. “Live in the freedom within the light of God’s grace & sufficiency.”- Tracie Miles

  • More of Him says:

    This book has encouraged me so much and given me so many excellent tools to focus on the positive, rather than the negative, and to remember God’s promises regarding who I am.

  • If you have ever, or are currently, experiencing negative thinking this is a wonderful book to read. Tracie has written a beautifully crafted book that is easy to read and understand.

  • This book was just the things I needed to read, too often we allow feelings of acquaintances hold us back from the life that God intended us to lead and this book addresses how we can rise above self doubt and negativity and lead fulfilling, bold lives. Speaking from personal experience and stories of other women this book is such an encouraging and insightful read that really resonated with me. I highly recommend it!

  • I feel like a new woman because of this Christian Living book. A new woman because I feel like Tracie gets what I am going through without knowing me personally, she connected to me through this book, and I am forever thankful.

  • Miles’s book shows practical ways to deal with negative emotions. There are numerous stories, by the author as well as other women, which are likely to be very relatable to the reader.

    I really enjoyed how Miles discussed crushing ANTs — automatic negative thoughts. The process for doing so is to notice the negative thoughts, reject the negative thoughts, and replace the negative thoughts. She gives examples on doing this, as well.

  • Tracie suggests the reader use a journal to place your thoughts to questions asked in each chapter. It can be your own personal journal or you can purchase one at Tracie’s website. Tracie also lists positive memory verses for the reader to ruminate on while reading the book, and after.

  • This book came at a time in my life that I really needed it. I am currently dealing with a disability that I have only had for 3 years now and also a disease that is constantly changing so I have also been dealing with a mild case of depression. This book helped me to focus on the positive and not the negative. Great book.

  • Book by Book says:

    Reading through Unsinkable Faith was quite enjoyable for me—it’s an easy yet helpful and encouraging read with clear and thought-provoking application. I recommend it for readers in need of practical and faith-driven ways to overcome negativity.

  • Unfortunately, I was not a fan of this book. I felt it was the same stuff you see in so many other books. It could not hold my attention and I felt myself skimming through and skipping pages.

  • The last few years has brought some stuff that otherwise could have cause me to want to run for the hills, but this book reminded me that I have to cling to Him and He will guide me through as He has done so many other times before. Life is not always going to be good but God always will.
    I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!

  • Tracie Miles has grasped a profound truth in her book, Unsinkable Faith. That truth has set her free from her past, the lies she has believed when she has looked only at her circumstances, and the lies the enemy has whispered into her heart and mind that burden her with guilt and shame. What is this truth? The powerful truth of God’s word!

  • Did you know you have 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts a day? I was reminded of this recently while reading Unsinkable Faith by Tracie Miles (www.traciemiles.com). Reading her book reminded me how important my thought life is to my overall emotional and physical health.

  • It’s so easy to get caught up in all the negative in the world. This book helps combat that and helps the reader to cultivate a more optimistic attitude. It is so encouraging with the stories, particularly her own and how she got through the break up of her marriage with unsinkable faith. I highly recommend this encouraging book!
