Buzz

4 stars | Thompson keeps readers hooked and entertained until the end with a fast-paced, action-packed romance. The memorable characters want something more out of their difficult lives, and the results will surprise you as well as them.

~ Romantic Times

“I absolutely loved this novel. Janice Thompson captures the true heart of the voyage and makes us feel as if we are a part of the Titanic. She also makes sure God’s love shines through this tragedy and shows that He has better things in store!”

~ Cathy Peeling, great-niece of Edward Smith, captain of the Titanic

“Janice Thompson has concocted a tale I couldn’t put down. Queen of the Waves is a deft weaving of deceit confronted by truth, shame confounded by love, and guilt swallowed in forgiveness. Beautifully written, this is a very different take on many stories-one you won’t want to miss, one you won’t forget.”

  • LITFUSE PUBLICITY: AMERICAN TAPESTRIES: QUEEN OF THE WAVES BY JANICE THOMPSON

I’ve always been intrigued by the Titanic so when I saw this book from the American Tapestries series I jumped on it to review. I enjoy reading what I can and having a book that is fictional but also weaves in non-fiction accounts is a rare gem, because most authors can’t really pull it off – but Janice Thompson has! Having seen the Titanic exhibit twice makes it easy to picture the characters, both fictional and real, aboard the ship as she sails towards America on her maiden and final voyage.

  • HIGHLY ENJOYABLE

I’ve always had a sort of love/hate relationship with Titanic books, but Queen of the Waves is definitely one that I love!

The plot was well put together and I thought that the characters were especially well-crafted, and likable from the start. There were things that Tessa struggled with, and it was easy to see why she had the reaction that she did because of the way she had been brought up, and I just really loved watching this story play out.

The time aboard the Titanic was my favorite part of the whole book. It’s such a tragic story, and Janice really showcased some of the more personable tidbits about passengers aboard the ship. As Iris and Tessa met many of the other passengers, it just added to my enjoyment of the book.

  • A STORY FROM THE TITANIC

The imagery woven into this story is simply beautiful. Through the eyes of the characters, we are taken back to those first breath taking views of the magestic Titanic in all her splendour. The first days onboard are delightful, love blossoms and at moments it is so enjoyable to read that you almost forget what is about to happen.

  • QUEEN OF THE WAVES

In a year of hundreds of books commemorating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic I must say that I haven’t been all that impressed by the books that I’ve read…until now. Queen of the Waves by Janice Thompson is a mix of The Prince and the Pauper and Downton Abbey that caught my interest from the very first page. There’s a dash of mystery, a touch of romance and of course all the sadness that surrounded the sinking of the ship a century ago. What a truly talented storyteller! Queen of the Waves is a terrific way for Summerside Press to start off their new line.

  • I LIKED JANICE THOMPSON’S TAKE ON THE LAUNCHING OF THIS SPECTACULAR SHIP AS BACKGROUND FOR HER NOVEL!

In Queen of the Waves we discover yet again the hand of the Almighty in all things! Standing on Titanic’s deck and seeing the expanse of water ahead, a passenger ponders the only word that come to mind:

“The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

    Fitting wouldn’t you say?

She has a very descriptive pen and I felt as if I was there with the characters. I felt as if I could eat at the tables on the Titanic and feel the material of the dresses. The characters were well developed and full of true emotions. The sinking of the big ship was well written and devastating, as one would expect. The course of true love is sometimes not straight and this writer shows that with a deft hand. This was another very satisfying American Tapestry read.

  • BOOK REVIEW: QUEEN OF THE WAVES

In Queen of the Waves, author Janice Thompson has composed a tale of tragedy and redemption in this retelling of the devastating fate of the Titanic. Tessa’s story is one that is sure to resonate with readers, as she begins to learn to embrace the idea of a new life, all while struggling to forgive her father for the abuse he committed against her in the past. For lovers of historical fiction, this story is a must-read.

  • QUEEN OF THE WAVES – JANICE THOMPSON

The title of this book should be scheming aboard the Titanic! GRIN! I loved the pig named Countess, I was rolling with laughter reading in the opening chapter, Tess wrestling with the huge pig. Jacgueline is being “forced” to marry a man who will help her father’s business, she is not interested to say the least. Her mother isn’t happy about it at all. Together they come up with a scheme . . . Jacqueline will board the Titanic and go and live with her Grandmother in New York. For Jacquie this is the perfect answer, although her mother has no idea what she has up her decadent sleeve. Jacquie is in love with the gardener, Peter, and has no intentions of going to New York. Peter’s younger sister, Tess has suffered at the hands of their father and he is worried about her, so when Peter comes up with the idea of his sister taking Jacquie’s place, the plan is born.

Aboard the Titanic you feel as if you are one of the passengers. The ship comes alive through Janice’s pen. You can hear the music, smell the food, feel the air on the deck. When tragedy strikes, you sense every bit of it like it’s 1912 all over again. I absolutely adored this book!

  • QUEEN OF THE WAVES BY JANICE THOMPSON

I’m a huge fan of books that involve the Titanic and Queen of the Waves is no exception. What makes this book unique are the two young ladies the book is centered around- they are both desperate to change their lives. It’s a delightful reversal of roles but there is no guarantee that things will end well. I loved reading about the plight of Jacqueline (being forced to marry a man she doesn’t love) but the lady I really longed to get to know was Tessa Bowen. Tessa lives a life of poverty and abuse and I was so anxious for her to get her happy ending.

Queen of the Waves is an interesting narrative look at the lives of some who survived the Titanic disaster. The author has created fictional characters to weave among real life historical figures and created a new story to tell against the backdrop of this tragedy. There are three narrators to this story- Jaqueline Abington is in love with her family’s gardener and deceives her family into thinking she has gotten on the Titanic to escape an arranged marriage. Her sections in this novel are brief and only give a hint into the couple’s relationship and history. The second narrator introduced into this story was Tessa. Tessa is the younger sister of Jaqueline’s gardener and takes her place on the Titanic to escape and abusive father. She assumes Jaqueline’s identity- which is not always

Queen of the Waves is the third novel about the Titanic that I’ve had the pleasure of reading this year, and it is unquestionably my favorite. Author Janice Thompson does a fantastic job of putting the reader on the Titanic. As I viewed the opulence through the character’s eyes, I could truly imagine what it looked like.

I found myself not just reading the novel, but envisioning the various parts of the story in my imagination. With how the author describes the setting, sights, and sounds aboard the Titanic, it isn’t hard to picture yourself there. The details and historic points are extraordinary and the characters realistic. I really enjoyed this novel, even more so with it’s unpredictable ending. Highly recommend!

  • QUEEN OF THE WAVES

Janice Thompson has taken a well known event in history and brought it to life with captivating characters that grabbed my attention. I was amused and very curious about how this story would unfold.

  • BOOK REVIEW: “QUEEN OF THE WAVES” BY JANICE THOMPSON

Any story about the Titanic’s maiden voyage is going to be highly emotional due to the tragedy involved. This great ship is going to sink and most of the passengers and crew will be lost. That is history. Now Ms. Thompson has given us a story that

Of course this book is only fiction, and these things didn’t happen aboard the ship, but I loved imagining what it was like, with all of the rich and famous, and even imagining what it was like to be there during the horrific tragedy.

  • QUEEN OF THE WAVES

Queen of the Waves is not the typical retelling of the tragic fate of the Titanic. While it does tell the story of the Titanic that we all know, it is the story told from the perspective of the working class and focuses more on the lives of these two women and less on the actual sinking of the Titanic. What a fresh perspective!

…the main character was actually of the working class… she is standing in for the high society lady I expected. That gave an interesting twist to the story. It was well-written and not too melodramatic or sappy.

First off I love the dress on the girl on this cover, it’s so cute!

This book takes you back to the era of the infamous Titanic voyage. My sister is obsessed with all things Titanic so I will be passing this book on to her to read too.

Janice has a very descriptive writing style which compels you to really dive into this story.

  • NEW TAKE ON TITANIC

Janice Thompson, clever and witty, has concocted a tale I couldn’t put down. “Queen of the Waves” is a deft weaving of deceit confronted by truth, shame confounded by love, and guilt swallowed in forgiveness. This is a very different take on Titanic’s many stories—one you won’t want to miss, one you won’t forget.

  • MORE ENJOYABLE THAN JAMES CAMERON

I remember viewing the movie Titanic back in the mid-1990’s, and the images I watched on the screen did not impact me as much as Thompson’s written descriptions of the ocean disaster.

  • A STORY ABOUT FINDING GOD’S LOVE AND FORGIVENESS.

While the story revolves around Tessa and Jacquie and the ill fated ride aboard the Titanic the story isn’t really them. It’s about realizing that no matter what you’ve done God’s forgiveness is there for you.

  • QUEEN OF THE WAVES

Sure this is a love story, and I enjoyed the relationships that developed between the characters, but honestly it was the historical flavor along with the setting made this a must read for me. The faith based messages woven into the story was just an added bonus for me. I highly recommend “Queen of the Waves” to anyone who enjoys historical romance that will take the reader back to the days of the Titanic.

  • QUICK, FUN READ

This was another quick read. Of course we know that since they are traveling on the Titanic, there is going to be a sinking ship along the way. However, I found that it was quite fun, and interesting, and quite unpredictable.

  • BOOK REVIEW – QUEEN OF THE WAVES

I loved how the author brought into some of the historical facts of the “Titanic” into the story and also the story of faith was a main theme, which I enjoyed.

All in all, this was a very good book that I’m sure you’ll enjoy. There’s enough mystery and wanting to know what happens to these two girls to keep you on the edge of your seat. Yes, we know what happened to the “Titanic” but the story of the characters is what keeps us turning the pages of this good book.

This is another one of those novels that is heavy with History. We all know the story of the Titanic. This deals more with Tessa and Jacqueline’s story leading up to the Titanic disaster and only a little bit of the actual sinking. I LOVED THAT!
