  • GOOD SERIES FOR A HORSE-LOVING YOUNG GIRL

They sent me all 4 books for this review so the stories are fresh in my mind. Number 3 is my favorite, and this one [number 4] is my second favorite. When I read the first one, I thought it was ok for a children’s book. After the second one I was wishing I didn’t have to read the others due to the attitude of the main character. I kept reading and was glad I did because I enjoyed the third one. The fourth one is probably the best as far as content goes. The last 2 are reminiscent of a young Nancy Drew or Trixie Belden with consistent horse content. I think the addition of the mysteries made them more interesting. The Blue Ribbon Trail Ride has some happy and sad times, as well as some good life and spiritual lessons.

  • LITFUSE BOOK REVIEW: ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ BY MIRALEE FERRELL

I read through this series with my younger sister, reading each one in order. While these books were entertaining, clean, and did keep my sister interested, there were some things that I am very concerned about which I will discuss below.

Each book had similar plot-lines, but I think that for their age group and for horse-loving readers, they are good. I’m afraid I am not an extreme horse-lover (or in that age group of 12-15), but for those who are, these are interesting reads. My favourite character would have to be Tori. She was very sweet, kind, and a great role-model.

The things I wish were different were that there could’ve been a stronger thread of faith and influence of godly character… -continued on blog

  • EXCELLENT HORSE SERIES FOR GIRLS! BY MIRALEE FERRELL

When I saw this blog tour, I knew I had to sign up. My younger sister has actually read the first two in the series and loved them. So while I did not personally read this one, M, who is 14, read them all. And here are her thoughts on Blue Ribbon Trail Ride.

Blue Ribbon Trail Ride tells the story of Kate and her friends raising money by doing a scavenger hunt to send her her younger brother who is autistic and others to attend a summer camp! Kate and her friends keep the entry fees in her mother’s antique jewelry box when the box with the money in it is stolen, they have to solve the mystery of the Blue Ribbon Trail Ride.”

  • A GREAT BOOK (AND SERIES) FOR PRE-TEENS! ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ BY MIRALEE FERRELL

Recently, the “Horses and Friends” series arrived at our house, and my eldest daughter instantly snatched them up and within days had devoured the entire series, emphatically declaring that she loves each and every book! But definitely one of her favourites was Blue Ribbon Trail Ride, as she enjoyed watching Kate, Tori, Colt and Melissa solve the particular mystery in the book. My daughter and I liked the humorous moments sprinkled throughout the pages, and also the fact that the characters make mistakes, just like kids in the real world. As a parent, I can heartily recommend this book, knowing that it will not only entertain children but instil good, clean values in them along the way.

  • REVIEW OF ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ BY MIRALEE FERRELL {TWEEN FICTION}

Blue Ribbon Trail Ride is the first book by Miralee Ferrell that I have read, but this certainly will not be our family’s last. It is the fourth book in Ferrell’s ‘Horses and Friends’ series, and it is a great book for tween readers (although I enjoyed it, too!). My 11 year old daughter is beginning with the first book in the series (A Horse For Kate), and I believe this will really enhance her experience & enjoyment of the characters by reading all four books. That said, Blue Ribbon Trail Ride can be read independently from the other books. Ferrell’s descriptions of the main characters are extremely well-developed and easy to follow.

  • FOR YOUR HORSE-LOVING GAL

My daughter could completely relate to the main character, Kate, having herself a desire to have a horse. This is the first of four in a series the chairs the joy of horses and friendship. I love the strong characters within these books, how they show the value of true friendship. It also models beautifully the ideal sibling relationships. There is so much more to this story though and horses and friends. There are lessons to be learned like truth telling, serving others and of the joy of showing kindness to one another. These are not only stories that are joyful to read and that can be enjoyed by the whole family but these are also excellent way to learn together how to have a good character.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’

This book is billed as juvenile fiction. I’m far from being a juvenile, but I really enjoyed getting to know Kate and her friends. These young people have all the normal ups and downs of young teens. They also keep ending up with mysteries on their hands.

This is a good stand alone read, but it’s better if you read the three previous books in this Horses and Friends series. Each book shows us how these young teens meet and eventually become close friends.

Thank you, Ms Ferrell, for introducing us to Kate and her friends. Please continue with this series. You have us invested in this friendship.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’

Blue Ribbon Trail Ride is such a sweet book and I’m glad that I was able to get to review it. The main character (which are four teenagers) impressed me. They were so mature for their age and all loved God. I truly wish that all teenagers were like these four. They were hard workers and loved helping others. They definitely acted older then they really are. These teenagers know what true friendship is.

Miralee Ferrell definitely knows how to write a good story to capture your attention. I believe anyone of any age would enjoy reading this book as well as the series. I sure did!

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ (HORSES AND FRIENDS #4) BY MIRALEE FERRELL

(review from my 14 year old son)

I think that the book is best suited for girls ages 8-11 because its about horses and it’s written from Kate’s standpoint who is a girl.

Overall it was a good book and I thought the plot was excellent. I liked the mystery part of the story.

The story keeps moving. It doesn’t stop. I think a girl who likes horses may enjoy this book, though I don’t know if she would love it. Me, I probably won’t read this series over and over. I never was a horse lover, but I do like horses. This story really sounded like it was written by a person who has been around horses a lot.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’

What an absolutely delightful book! This sweet little series is perfect for the young reader filled to the brim with great characters who are challenged to do the right thing, a lot of talk about Jesus which I was happy with and it involves horses and what young girl does not love horses? It was fun to see each character develop and grow. I feel like this is a perfect book for young adults and is one that I would want my daughter reading. I received a copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ SERIES

Miralee Ferrell has a great combo in these stories. These are family stories. The children are not perfect, they struggle, but they love one another. Kate’s brother has autism, they deal with a unfriendly people at school, and learn the consequences of real life in a level appropriate for ages 8-12. Some younger readers will enjoy the stories as well as older. I mean, obviously, I enjoyed them as an adult! I often think that a well written YA or middle school age book should interest adults as well.

If your boys or girls enjoy stories about horses with a little mystery in them, pick these up. They will be some that the whole family will enjoy!

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ BY MIRALEE FERRELL

It seems nearly every girl goes through a horse crazy phase. When I was a teen, I remember dreaming about having my own horse with several of my friends. My dad called horses “hay burners,” though, so I knew it would never happen. I satisfied my horse desires by devouring books like The Black Stallion and The Saddle Club. So I thought it was cool to see that a Christian author I like is now writing horse books for tween girls.

I liked the way Kate and her friends work together in Blue Ribbon Trail Ride. Each has unique strengths and it was fun to see how they used those talents to put together the scavenger hunt. They also make a new friend in the novel and learn that its worth overcoming first impressions to get to know someone.

  • CHILDREN’S BOOK REVIEW: ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ BY MIRALEE FERRELL

Girls love horses. Period. So I was not surprised to hear a squeal of glee when my daughter opened up the box for me, that contained this book! She was in the middle of another book, and eagerly finished it in 2 days, so she could start reading this one! It is so funny to me still, that this was the kid who had decided she HATED reading and barely stayed on the honor roll last year, and this year it’s all A’s in reading and she can finish a book in 3-4 days, when properly motivated! This one took her a bit longer, as it was one of the longest books she’s read at 210 pages. But she was SO glued to it, that she wanted to NOT be disturbed at ALL while reading! SO cute! Add a scavenger hunt to horses and helping friends, and you have the start of a promising mystery for the 8-14 yr old set!

An amazing series of novels for young adults. The novel is well written and thought out with characters that young adults (and even adults!) can relate to.I love how her faith is lightly woven into the novel to help guide and how easily young adults can relate this to their own lives.

This novel (and the whole series) will be a great addition to the young adults in your life personal library. They are well written and funny while teaching valuable moral and faith-based lessons.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ BY MIRALEE FERRELL

The main character in this book (and series), Kate, has several faults, which is good because it makes her more relatable and realistic. She’s hasty to judge others and often needs to backtrack on her verbal actions to apologize and make amends. This flaw is great to tie-in to middle grade novels because we all need practice with choosing words. The horses are also a highlight of this book (and series). Most of the riders ride English (dressage, flatwork, and jumping), but mention is made of Western riding, as well. The connection between horse and rider is described well and very enjoyable to read. We also see the most variety in character personalities and backgrounds in this book of the series.

Blue Ribbon Trail Ride is a fun, quick read, which can be enjoyed by all, but especially your middle-school girl. If she (or you!) enjoy horses, and a mystery, I am sure you will enjoy this book.

I like that at the end of each book are some bonus things, such as “secrets for your diary,” instructions for setting up a horse-themed scavenger hunt, or directions for making a fun horse-shaped cake.

After my mom, daughter and I have finished reading them, I know a young lady I will probably pass the whole set on to for her July birthday.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ BY MIRALEE FERRELL

I love when a book shocks me with it’s greatness, and that’s exactly what happened with Blue Ribbon Trail Ride. It’s a quality mystery story for tween kids. I love that it contains age-appropriate drama and suspense activity but doesn’t shy away from current events. The world isn’t perfect, and Ferrell doesn’t portray it that way – but she attacks the plot with sensitivity and tact. Drug abuse, hoarding, stealing, and lying are all a part of the story, but so are forgiveness, second chances, and true friendship.

Blue Ribbon Trail Ride is the kind of book I want my kids to read. The kids are flawed but kind. They work hard and aren’t afraid to try new things. They mess up and get into trouble but readily confess and try to make things right.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ — A WONDERFUL MYSTERY FOR HORSE LOVERS!

I particularly enjoyed getting to know Kate and her friends, Tori, Melissa, Jake and Colt. Their camaraderie is full of fun and adventure and the teasing and laughter may remind you of friends of your own. Character lessons are cleverly scattered throughout the story- honesty, patience, tolerance, perserverance, etc. I appreciated how the teens took on the task or organizing a scavenger hunt in order to raise money to help Kate’s younger brother, Pete, go to camp. Pete is autistic and I loved how the author gave him a chance to shine in the story. The suspects in the mystery were wonderful! I had no idea who had stolen the antique jewel box filled with money and anxiously read to see the mystery solved. I wish this series was around when my daughters were younger!

My 12-year-old niece read this book and she said, “Blue Ribbon Trail Ride by Miralee Ferrell is an amazing story! I love how Kate, Tori and Colt are such good Christians and Melissa is learning a lot about God and how He cares for us. I think that my favorite character would have to be Kate. My daughter is horse crazy. Has been since birth. So I jumped at the change to review this book because I knew she would devour them. I wasn’t wrong. The moment the books arrived at our house she immediately started reading book one in the Horse And Friends series.

  • BOOK REVIEW | ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ BY MIRALEE FERRELL

This is so much more than just a book for girls who love horses. There’s mystery. There’s intrigue. There’s a group of young teens who are determined to help out their friends (and younger brother).

I never knew that Miralee Ferrell wrote young adult books – much less such entertaining ones. It is so very refreshing to find such wonderful family-friendly stories that are not only suitable for all ages, but appealing as well.

I also believe these stories will be a tremendous help to those young adults who don’t really understand things like autism. We could all use some positive reinforcement that shows us that just because someone is a little different . . . doesn’t mean there is something wrong with them…

I love this series! My nine year old also loves this series! Blue Ribbon Trail Ride continues the exploits of thirteen year old friends Kate, Tori, Colt, and Melissa. These kids continue to learn and grow with each story. They make mistakes and sometimes feelings get hurt. But there is always such a great lesson of kindness and forgiveness woven throughout each novel.

My nine year old’s thoughts: “I like that the trail ride is the first real thing they get to do to raise money other than boarding horses. I also really like that it is the first real book where Kate can trust that Melissa is her friend.”

What I didn’t like is some of the word choices that were used in the books. Things like ‘Hurl,’ ‘dweeb,’ and also referring to a boy as ‘hot,’. I think these words are inappropriate and should not be used in Christian juvenile fiction.

I have a horse loving 9 year old that devoured these books! Miralee has done a fantastic job or weaving in solid character traits and realistic life lessons in a manner that is fun and entertaining for kids.

BR Trail ride focuses on Kate’s little brother Pete who has autism. Not only do she and her friends create a plan to raise money for him to go to camp, but for other kids like him!

    {Side Note: Due to the character of Pete, daughter began asking questions about autism. It spurred great discussion as well as spurred me to find some books that were on her level to help her understand autism better.}

With great character traits such as patience, forgiveness, problem-solving,& compassion this is a great book for kids to read, and for you to know they are receiving a positive message!

  • GREAT, CLEAN READ FOR TWEENS

I would recommend this book and series for readers age 8-12 years old. While the story does include horses, it would be interesting for kids who are not especially drawn to horse stories. For anyone who is a horse enthusiast, this book will be a hit! All of the main characters come from different backgrounds (homeschooled/public school, single parent family, brother with autism) and provide a diverse group for different readers to connect with. The language used in the book is clean and the children are very good examples of respectful and obedient children. They model consequences for both positive and negative choices. Mystery, adventure, and horses make this book a great read for any tween!

  • HORSE-LOVING YOUNG GIRLS WILL ENJOY! SOME SLANG THAT MAMA DIDN’T . . .

As a girl, I would have thoroughly enjoyed these books.

As a mother, I have cautiously ok’d this series for my daughter. The themes of loyalty, true friendship, forgiveness, and hard work are great, though a child will most likely be interested in the slight mysteries involved in each book.

What concerned me most is some of the slang used in the stories. ‘Hurl,’ ‘dweeb,’ ‘sissy,’ ‘dissed,’ and referring to a boy as ‘hot,’ were some of the words I found inappropriate. I also didn’t enjoy the many pop-culture references that occurred in book 4 by Jake. These references were of movies, songs, whatever that we have not watched in our home.

Aside from that, any horse-loving, reading girl will enjoy Kate’s adventures.

Honestly, novels about horses have never appealed to me. I only signed up to review the Horses and Friends series as I thought my little cousins might like them. As it turns out, I actually liked reading the series. While the first novel is about a girl who is determined to get a horse, the other books are more about friendship with a little mystery tossed about. Overall, Blue Ribbon Trail Ride is an entertaining, well-written book that both kids and adults will enjoy reading.

  • GOING HOME

This book has a lot of good lessons for all, and the fact that they all could be real is heart warming. Blue Ribbon Trail Ride is the fourth book in this series, and they are all amazing and full of good life lessons.

This book focuses on Kate’s younger brother’s autism, and how he won’t be able to go to a special camp, because of financial reasons. Of course, these loving young teens come up with a wonderful idea to earn money not only for Pete but others with the same condition. They plan an awesome scavenger hunt, along with a trail ride, what fun. The community seems to rally around them, but then they become devastated, and Pete probably won’t be going to camp.
Some cute and some funny situations arise when they put their sleuthing heads together.

  • 5 STARS FOR MIRALEE FERRELL AND ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’

This was an easy read. I would love to share these books with my grand children when they are a little older.
I think these would be excellent books to read together as a family.

This series would be a great addition to a school library.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ REVIEW!

….When I was younger if a book didn’t grab me and start right off I would get bored quickly and not want to finish so jumping right in is always a plus to me…..Some of these scenes are HILARIOUS!…

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’

I read this book aloud to my children and at first my boys were afraid this story would be too girly. Of course my horse loving daughter was thrilled and excited to listen to a fun horse story that she could enjoy. Interestingly enough, as soon as my boys realized though that there was a mystery involved in the story, they were on the edge of their seats. There were even a few days they would beg me to read another chapter because the cliff hanger at the end of the chapter was bugging them like crazy! They just had to know what was going to happen next.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’

What can be more exciting to a preteen than a book about horses and friends and exciting adventure? Not much — unless you add a mystery into the mix. Love the dynamics between Kate, Melissa, Tori and Colt. They make an intrepid team that can’t be beat. Especially when it comes to cracking a case.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’

Overall, a fun read, great middle grade fiction, and perfect for the young horse lovers in your life. The book that I am reviewing here is actually book four in a series, so I would definitely recommend reading the other books first so that you have more of an idea of who the characters are. Entertaining and fun read!

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ BY MIRALEE FERRELL

As always, Miralee job well done! This was my favorite out of all four books! I couldn’t wait to figure out what happened to the box. Thank you for instilling such awesome messages in this series and in this book. I don’t believe these messages are even in adult books. All ages can enjoy this series, but this was the best out of all four. Thank you for the life lessons given here!

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’

These books are fun to read. But this is not just a fluff series. It tackles some hard issues like racism and autism, and has some subtler themes like delayed gratification and personal safety. Challenges that the 8-12 year olds they’re aimed at are beginning to think about. I look forward to Hannah being able to enjoy these books soon, and I’m glad I got the chance to read them so that I will be able to discuss them with her.

  • GREAT FOR RELUCTANT READERS

Problem-solving, friendship, and compassion for others are all elements of this tale. The characters are as realistic as a group of kids playing in your backyard. They learn about personal responsibility and forgiveness as important life lessons. This is a charming book to read as a family, and a great option for reluctant readers.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’

Blue Ribbon Trail Ride is the fourth book in this series, but it easily stands alone. I loved the first three books in this series (especially Mystery Rider) so I had high hopes for this one. And I wasn’t disappointed. The main focus is forgiveness and patience. It was very discreet mystery. I didn’t guess who did it until it was revealed. The brother Pete has autism and he’s getting better because of the dog helping him relate better. I liked that. It was a very good book. (Reviewed by my daughter, Jenna)

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ REVIEW

I loved that it was an easy read but it also has some very challenging vocabulary. I actually passed this book to my 6-year old daughter to read when I was done with it. It is great for building vocabulary and reading in context. Also, I loved that you can read this book without reading the rest of the series – but I am actually starting with book 1 in the series so that I can read all of them chronologically. Another thing about this book is that the family in this book lives out their faith but isn’t overbearing or too cheesy. The parents in the book are great about teaching their kids responsibility and leadership as well as forgiveness and prayer.

  • AN ENJOYABLE BOOK FOR YOUNG ADULTS

First of all I have to thank the publisher for not only allowing me to read this book but sending me the entire series to read. This was a fun series of books and I like how each one has activies and/or recipes in the back included for your child’s enjoyment. In this book we get to go on a horse scavenger hunt which I must say was fun to do. I like how there was a bit of a mystery that you had to try and solve as some stole the antique jewelry box with the entry fees. This book along with the whole series is great for a child/young adult who is in love with horses. The characters were fun to read about and you felt as if you were along on the adventure with them. The way it is written you feel as if you were watching your own young adult with her friends. I am going to share my books with my niece and there is no doubt in my mind that she will love them as much as I did.

  • SCAVENGER HUNT FOR A JEWELRY BOX

The kids do all the work on the project and there are some pitfalls like loosing the entry fees and a family heirloom jewelry box. It is a great story telling kids that they can do anything. At the end, the person who stole the jewelry box comes back to return it expecting that he will be taken by the police but the family takes another path. I might not agree with the message that this decision sends to the kids. I understand that it is still a positive message but I think that parents should read this with the kids or before so that you can discuss the different values in this book. The only bad thing that I can say is that all of the other books had recipes at the end and this book had directions on doing a scavenger hunt…which I makes sense but I was looking for snickerdooles.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ BY MIRALEE FERRELL BOOK TOUR AND BOOK REVIEW

This is one of the best series that I have read for young adults in a long time. It is a beautiful story about family, love and loyalty. Kate Ferris is only thirteen years old but she wants to help her parents. She finds out that they cannot afford to send her autistic brother to camp.

  • ‘BLUE RIBBON TRAIL RIDE’ BY MIRALEE FERRELL

This latest book in the Horses and Friends series is another winner. I really like the characters, especially the new one, Jake. The kids have exciting adventures and learn moral lessons in the process. In this one, they learn it is best to always be open and honest with their parents. I love how they do good deeds to others too. Great adventures, lots of horses, good friendships, I recommend this series to girls aged 8-12.
