This was a wonderfully refreshing book of encouragement that was not only relatable but easy to understand and read, great for any generation and either sex needing good solid and sound advise. Anyone dealing with verbal abuse or feeling attacked by someones words will find solace in this book. Betel Arnold makes her book easy to read as well as easy to relate, especially from a females standpoint with helping others through challenging and dark times by telling her own story of dark times and using God’s Word to finding herself and happiness.

Okay guys. I’m a nurse. I’ve worked as a mental health nurse. I have worked with abused women who believe they are nothing and deserve to be abused for the rest of their life. I want this book to reach them. This book has the potential to heal these women and help them to become the women they have always wanted to be. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever faced a wall of negativity, to anyone who needs that boost, that voice saying Yes You Can!

I think this is a good book. Arnold has good things to say. I don’t think the book is incredibly well-written or edited, but I think it is very honest. The author includes pages to journal in the book as well as snippets called “Mind Overhaul” that I enjoyed.

  • {{BOOK REVIEW}} BURIED BENEATH THE WORDS BY BETEL ARNOLD

I’m sure you’ve heard that old saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” It’s a lie! Words DO hurt, and can crush a person more than you think.

I’ve noticed that just about everyone in my life use words to hurt each other at some point in time. When I was growing up I had very low self-esteem, and still struggle with it some as an adult. I was only in public school from kindergarten until almost a few months into the 2nd grade, but I knew the power that words could have on me.

  • BOOK REVIEW: BURIED BENEATH THE WORDS, BY BETEL ARNOLD

This book focuses on words. The overall, overused words from our everyday lives. The words we use, the words we expel, and moreover, the words we feel. After hearing those words over and over again, we begin to feel the weight of them threatening to crush the very life out of us. Buried Beneath the Words shares the authors personal experience, a true life story about the different ways someone can end up buried beneath the weight of harsh, soul-stripping effects of the negative words we all endure. The book then gives the read a sense of preparation, as it outlines a plan, a Christian course for how God’s word can revive us, by redirecting these words, into a sense of personal, and community betterment, in real-life examples. By putting the advice given within these pages into practice, you will experience an awakening of the real you—the you that has been buried way too long.

  • BURIED BENEATH THE WORD

This book was very encouraging and really struck a chord with me. It really talks about the significance of words which is something that one doesn’t think of often enough. I really enjoyed this book and found it to really hit home several times. This world is full of so much negativity and too often it does weigh us down and we let ourselves be defined by it. This book is a great reminder about focusing on the Lord and not letting words get us down.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

  • Buried Beneath the Words is conversationally written, which makes it enjoyable to read. It offered me a new perspective on how powerful God’s words are. He spoke and our world was created. The words we hear from family and friends have a tremendous impact on our lives as well, either for positive or negative.

If you struggle with the negative impact words have had on your life, this will be a helpful resource. Also included in the book are study questions, which can be used on your own, or as a group study.

In twelve chapters Ms. Arnold delves into the situations that we find ourselves in because of the words that were spoken and gives us tools to help us get over them. At the end of each chapter there is a Mind Overhaul that will help focus you on what God has to say. It really is quite good. You will want to give this book to family and friends.

  • BURIED BENEATH THE WORDS BY BETEL ARNOLD

This is a good book of encouragement for women who are bearing the weight of hurtful words. Arnold shares her own journey of using confession to come out from underneath the lies to believing truth from God. I like that she has included confessions that were meaningful to her. The book is not scholarly nor comprehensive. It is personal motivation to believe the truth about ourselves.

  • A GREAT BOOK FOR WOMEN OF ALL AGES

This was a good and interesting book to read. I like how the author wrote it and makes you feel as if you do matter. The way she uses stories, scriptures and other things to let you know that what others think should not matter to you. You need to remember that what you and God think are all that matters in life. Yes words do hurt but by reading this book you will learn they don’t have to. If you have not had words hurt you this book will still work for you, because it will make you think about how you talk to others so your words don’t hurt someone else. Betal’s questions that she uses at the end of chapter makes you stop and think, they are very thought provoking. I think this would be a good book for women of all ages to read over and over again.

  • SHOWS THE POWER OF WORDS

Buried Beneath the Words is a very easy read, but it powerfully shows the way words can affect us. Arnold uses examples from her own life to show how people can get beaten down by the words spoken about them (both by others and by themselves), and she also shows the freedom that can be found in Christ.

I think this book could be a great resource for someone who has been abused or bullied or simply has low self esteem. A notes section follows most chapters, complete with questions to help the reader think through the way words are impacting them, and I think this could be used very effectively as a small group study.

  • BURIED BENEATH THE WORDS

There is a very valuable lesson in BURIED BENEATH THE WORDS and it’s one that everybody should read. We all had negative things said about us. “Fat.” “Ugly.” “Stupid.” “The weak link.” Substitute your own adjective. We need to learn to control our tongues. To not spew out poison when (insert name) gets on your last nerve and you snap. Supported with scripture and with questions to think about, this is a book to study and to learn from either individually or as a group.

  • WEEKLY BOOK REVIEWS

Buried Beneath The Words was a very interesting read this past week. We don’t always realize how powerful words are, or how we’ve come to accept the words other people have used to describe us. Think about that for a second, how would people in your life describe you? Accusing, blaming, and degrading words are the worst! After hearing negative opinions over and over again, we begin to feel the weight of them threatening to crush the very personality. Buried Beneath the Words cleverly shares a true life story about the different ways someone can end up buried beneath the weight of negative words. Then it shares a Christian course for how God’s word can revive us. How should you speak onto others? How should you feel about others?

Oh my gosh! When this book came up for review I initially decided to read it because I talk (OFTEN) about how words can be so damaging and I thought it would be a fabulous book for finding ways through, around, or over that damage. Instead I found SO much more.

This book is incredible. I have pages bookmarked, dog-eared and highlighted. There are notes in the columns and notes scribbled out on scrap pieces of paper throughout my copy, stark and not so stark reminders of things I never want to forget, ever again.

Reminders that “what will others think” are not as important and “what will I think” or better yet “what will God think”. Reminders that “be kind” does not mean “be walked on”. Reminders that all it takes is a confession (maybe repeated 1000 times) to remember who you are and

UPS: Buried Beneath the Words is a really great devotional that is good for women of all ages who are constantly spoken negatively over. Betel uses Scripture to back up everything she says, as well as some personal stories. The book is small so you can zip right through reading it (and the cover is so “yummy”!!! Earth-shattering it’s not, but there are some good points to be made in Buried Beneath the Words. The reflection pages after each chapter encourage the reader to interact with the lessons. In Arnold’s point of view, we can free ourselves from the weight of the words and unearth our own identity in Christ. Although it’s not the most exciting self-help book I’ve read, it’s a good start for someone who needs a springboard for positive action.

I think we all have had word hurled at us – whether they be from well meaning parents or not so well meaning parents, friends, bullies and others around us – that still torment us today. I know I have. I was told to let the words roll away, part of the whole sticks and stones will break your bones but words will never hurt – there were days I almost wished that I’d have a broken bone versus the words that weren’t supposed to hurt. Words wound even more than a broken bone – a bone can mend and heal but it takes more than plaster and water to heal an emotional wound. That is what Betel’s book sets out to do to help heal those wounds caused by words by using God’s Word so that we can know and love ourselves as He loves us.
