Only by chance did become employed as a costumer for one of the London theaters. Nate also by chance ended up working at the same theater and befriended Rosalyn. Their friendship slowly becomes more.

Imagine being a young lady in a rough London city. Where you were fearful and scared of even a shadow. Now imagine a knight in tarnished armor showing up to aide and love you. Sounds pretty good, right? This begins the love I found for this stunning novel.

Being a bookie (haha, is that a term?…you know, like a “foodie”), it’s easy to enjoy a lot of books you read. However, I think one of the big telling signs of a really engaging story is if the reader would want to read more books if it’s a series. This is book 1 of the London Beginnings series, and there is much left unanswered. I very much would read more of Jennifer’s novels!

Filled with well-rounded characters & vividly conveys the sights of Victorian London. Loved the historical detail, which included the theater world of Gilbert & Sullivan. Rosalyn and her two sisters were raised in George Muller’s orphanage. I’ve read a good bit about Muller’s devout trust in God to provide, and think this is a great foundation for the girls’ stories.

I like that the author added about Rosalyn and her sisters being from/at one of George Muller’s orphanages; I liked the descriptive scenes of places; and I liked that the ‘H’s were capital when referring to God. Had those unnecessary comments, the brothel scenes, and the player not been in this book, I most likely would have given in a 3.5 star to 4 star rating. But, unfortunately, those parts were there and I won’t be able to give it a rating higher than “it was okay.”

Victorian England comes to life on the pages of The Captain’s Daughter. I loved that the focus is not on the upper class but the everyday person, the working class, the soldier, even the theater. Warmth and humor surround the story, despite the fact that the setting walks through some seedier sides (and characters) of London. An absorbing story that keeps you intrigued until the last word and leaves you wanting more time with these new friends.

I enjoyed this book because of the time period it was set in, the dialogue was rich, and it was not overtly romantic. The setting was rich with details and the characters, though could’ve been a bit more developed were vibrant. The message was well played out and the series thread seems well in place. What I find “missing” has more to do with the pace which doesn’t seem to transition as well as I’ve liked for a smooth read. • ‘THE CAPTAIN’S DAUGHTER’ BY JENNIFER DELAMERE

I found The Captain’s Daughter difficult to put down. Yes, I was frustrated by the love triangle in it because I wanted Rosalyn to wake up but that just made me want to continue reading. It’s a great start to a new series and I’m looking forward to reading the next book when it comes out.

  • ‘THE CAPTAIN’S DAUGHTER’ BY JENNIFER DELAMERE

The Captain’s Daughter by author Jennifer Delamere is the kind of book that once you start reading it you really lose yourself in the story. Rosalyn Bernay is a young woman who in the year 1879 is in London when she finds herself in horrible circumstances. She is alone and she has to make tough decisions. How will she get on alone? I give this book a 5/5.

  • ‘THE CAPTAIN’S DAUGHTER’ BY JENNIFER DELAMERE

The Captain’s Daughter is the perfect story for fans of mysteries and musicals!  With an unusual combination of Gilbert and Sullivan, London theater life, and villains on every corner, this story is unexpectedly fun.

  • ‘THE CAPTAIN’S DAUGHTER’ BY JENNIFER DELAMERE

I thought this was a really interesting story and I loved the references to the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas that were so popular at this time. London seemed a dirty and dangerous place, especially for a young woman on her own. The rewarding part of this novel is the generous help Rosalyn had along the way. I know you will enjoy this story.
