Putting God back in the spotlight

Lisa Lloyd helps readers live the life they’ve always auditioned for

3/27/2017 || Seattle: Life can be compared to a series of auditions. Regardless of who we are, we are constantly auditioning for a part: to be the most loving spouse, attentive parent or amazing employee. It is human nature to want to be loved, affirmed and accepted. Whether it is conscious or not, all these desires focus inwardly. In Chasing Famous: Living the Life You’ve Always Auditioned For (New Hope Press/April 3, 2017/ISBN: 978-1-62591-517-7/$14.99), Lisa Lloyd helps readers shift the focus outwardly and back on God and His glory.

Lloyd, a professional actress who readily admits she is the most self-centered person she knows, provides practical and often-humorous examples of scriptural truth that will help readers discover the role God created for them. It’s a role they don’t have to audition for because it’s one in which they have already been cast.

“In an audition, I’m hoping to be enough — pretty, quirky, talented, funny and fashionable, enough — to be the one chosen,” Lloyd shares. “In life, I’m constantly walking around hoping the people making the decisions will like me, choose me, approve me, select me. I want to be enough for them. However it’s only when we realize we’ve already been selected by God that we find peace. Then we can live a life of security, knowing our job is not to be selected but to point people still seeking approval to the One who gives it unconditionally.”

Chasing Famous challenges readers to take an honest look at where they’re seeking fulfillment, examine their own self-seeking propensities and wrestle with the messy questions of Why am I here? What does God really want from me? Is there more to life than this? Once these issues have been mastered, readers will discover how turning the spotlight on God frees them to live their lives as God intended.

Written with the theme of the audition carried throughout, Chasing Famous uses terms from “the business” to relate to everyday circumstances. The unique structure adds richness and depth to Lloyd’s own testimony as she reveals why every person was created to make God famous. “The Bible is clear,” Lloyd offers. “God wants to use the story of our lives to radiate His fame. He doesn’t point His finger at our mistakes and screw-ups. Rather He points us to the stage so we can share with the world how truly glorious He is.”

Lloyd encourages readers to abandon the pain of comparison to leave their own unique stamp on the world and break free from the guilt and shame of the past to embrace God’s unconditional love. Ultimately she hopes to empower readers to step bravely into the role God has for them: to stand center stage and proclaim His renown to all who will listen.

Advance Praise

“After a speaking event, I asked two young girls what they dreamed of doing one day. They both said they dreamed of ‘being famous.’ My heart sank. This desire for fame is an ageless epidemic perpetuated by a deep desire to be valued, needed, important. Lisa speaks right to the heart of this epidemic in a creative and engaging way through both personal reflection and God’s Word. I am so thankful God made it clear to Lisa that this is her purpose . . . to use the story God has written in her life to bring Him fame.”

~ Jenn Sprinkle, cofounder of The Well Studio

“The overwhelming need for validation drives the performer in every single one of us! ‘See me, love me, affirm me,’ is our constant cry on social media, at church on Sundays, even as we send our Christmas cards out each sacred December. Whether you’re a stage actress or a stay-at-home-mom, Lisa Lloyd carries us all along on her journey in the spotlight so that we might learn to purposefully live our lives turning that same beam of light on Jesus. After all, He is the Light of the World . . . and all the world’s His stage! Packed full of Scripture truth and resonating examples of biblical characters who lived their unique stories for such a time as this, Chasing Famous inspires each reader to offer up their own personal narrative for God’s ultimate glory! Inspiring, challenging, and such an important read for each of us living in this digital age that lauds applause on Christian fame.”

This was another good book that addressed something most women struggle with, not ever feeling like enough and how that is such an elusive mirage. This book is a good reminder to take the focus off of ourselves and put it back on the Lord, that is the only way we are going to find contentment and peace. This book was well written and engaging to read and it was an excellent reminder of where my focus needs to be.

I have really enjoyed reading through this book. It was very interesting to read how Lisa has compared using our lives for God to being famous. I liked how she showed the parallels of these two things and how she showed that our ultimate goal is to serve Christ and be famous for him.

Lisa’s storytelling style is engaging. I thought it was quite clever and fitting that as a seasoned actress, she chose to use terms from her industry as the titles for each chapter

This book would be great for college aged women and up who are trying to discern their path and calling. That said, it was just as relevant for me as a stay at home mom who sometimes feels like part of my calling (besides the mom piece!) is buried beneath dishes and laundry somewhere. I can assure you that you’ll walk away feeling refreshed and with a little more confidence to lean into what you feel

I loved Lloyd’s honesty and how she articulated her stories and how they apply to life. Not only did she use her own stories, she filtered Bible stories throughout that help us see ourselves the way God sees us.

We lose focus on who we really should be trying to please when we are constantly rushing around and working to make everyone around us either like us or “applaud us” when we do the things in our daily lives. How crazy is it that we find ourselves “auditioning” for those around us when we should only seek His applause? We may not want to admit how often this can happen to us, but honestly, I can tell you that I definitely felt conviction on this one. That is truly what is important and I am grateful for this reminder to keep seeking to make God famous through my life and even through my blog. This book really did give just that push I needed to get back to what matters most. I highly encourage you to pick up a copy soon!

I feel Chasing Famous is unique, in that it is written by an actor who sees things from a different perspective than most of us, who are the audience. Lloyd uses this unique perspective to teach we are to live for Christ Jesus and not for the gain of men (people.)

Chasing Famous: Living the Life You’ve Always Auditioned For is an inspiring book about focusing on God and His glory instead of just ourselves. The author, Lisa Lloyd, is an actress, and she uses acting terms and analogies in the book.

This is a wonderful book! It inspires, refreshes and brings a whole new feeling into what we do in our lives. All the things we do matter – the little and the large – and as we do them, we need to do them for the glory of God and not focus on ourselves. I love this book (and intend to read it again!) and give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Chasing Famous is Lisa sharing her heart of getting back on track with chasing God and living life with God as the focus instead of herself.  Every day we are each trying to improve ourselves for a certain role, be the model wife, be the mom who has the perfect home and the perfect kids, be the woman who can juggle all the hats she has to wear.  However, it is not the life that God intended for each of us to live.

I was very interested in reading this book as a woman who has struggled with self-esteem and purpose in life. The subtitle of this book is ”Living the Life You’ve Always Auditioned For” and is sure to capture the curiosity of most people. The author is Lisa Lloyd, an actress who can speak from experience. I love the point she makes through all the chapters of the book: turn the spotlight on GOD! And then you will discover what it means to truly live.

Ever want to be famous? Okay, maybe not like a celebrity, but within your own world? I recently read a book that gave me a great perspective on my gifts and glorifying God in everyday life. It really resonated with me as she shared her own story along the way.

I was hesitant at first because how can my life as wife/mom/homemaker compare to this actress? But Lisa Lloyd removes all pretense immediately offering honest, heartfelt, and revealing guidance to live life in the Light of who God created each of us to be.

I loved Chasing Famous and feel so blessed by the faith-filled messages Lisa conveys throughout the book. It’s not about us, it’s all about Him and what He does through us to bring about His glory. Keeping the Lord as center stage keeps us centered on Him and the works He is fulfilling in us.

If you’re struggling with the need to constantly “audition” for others, you’ll find comfort and encouragement in Lisa’s personal experience and the Scripture she weaves throughout this book. You’ll be challenged to live boldly for the fame of the One who has called you by name. You’ll learn that you can stop auditioning every day for the approval of others and rest in the approval of your Heavenly Father.

CHASING FAMOUS is not simply a book about how Lisa makes God famous in her life (but her personal story is touching and you don’t want to miss it!). Lisa shows us how to “lengthen, elevate, and radiate” the fame of God’s Name in our personal stories, our talents, and in our everyday activities. When we are transparent and vulnerable, we let the world see the real us and how God is working in our lives–which encourages them to do the same. And He is glorified!

This book helps to remind readers that we were all created with and for a purpose. We are all meant to do something and be something. And I think that there are a great deal of people out there who could use this type of encouragement, especially when they might be feeling useless or are lacking direction. It is a reminder that we need that we need to fully trust in God’s plan for us in order to find our real purpose in life.

I adored this book. I found myself feeling the gamut of emotions. From awe to conviction. From inspired to deeply moved. It’s been a few days since I completed this book in it’s entirety but one sentence continues to haunt me…in a good way. In chapter 12, the author says, “May we not miss the opportunity to be used by God where we are because we are so consumed with a desire to be used by God where we’re not.” May I truly be excited about the opportunities right in front of me. And may they all be for His glory.
