Destiny Defied | Book One in The Destiny series.

A dramatic shipwreck emancipates Riki Hammad, but the island where she finds refuge is compromised. Unless she finds a power truly great enough to defeat her dark past, she will choose death over returning to captivity. Lord Vétis, high priest of a cultic underground, will stop at nothing to reclaim their chosen one. Using black magic, he manipulates Riki and her four self-assigned bodyguards, triggering a battle that consumes the entire island. The underground will never allow Riki to live out her dreams of a normal life…something she has never known.

  • BOOK REVIEW: “DESTINY DEFIED” BY J. A. MARX

    Action, mystery and adventure are just part of the ingredients of “Destiny Defied”. The big theme of this tightly woven adventure is Spiritual warfare. This is one very exciting book that captures your attention and keeps you flipping pages as fast as you can read them.

  • SUPERNATURAL STORY

    Destiny Defied is a Christian Supernatural thriller that definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. I have not read anything from J.A. Marx so this book was my first experience and I am very glad I did. Destiny Defied is described as Frank Peretti meets a modern day Treasure Island, and that is a very accurate description. As a fan of Frank Peretti and other supernatural books this book really caught my attention. I found myself unable to put this book down for very long and J.A. Marx definitely kept me guessing until the end. As I read this book I really feel like it is appropriate for Teens and adults. I enjoyed the interactions of the four friends and their struggle to help Rikki, especially as they shared their faith with her and explained about God to her.

  • FRANK PERETTI MEETS A MODERN DAY TREASURE ISLAND! {AND KINDLE GIVEAWAY!}

    Destined Defied by J. A. Marx was quite the intriguing read. The premise is set around four boys out to have a good time, and one mysterious girl that will change their lives. Just like they will change her’s. Its a hardcore spiritual warfare, with an emphasis on faith even in the most trying situations. I had a hard time with the story at first. It was confusing, and I was pretty easily distracted. But with patience comes reward! I truly enjoyed the thrill ride that is Destiny Defied. Even if it was a touch scary. Just a touch. But then again, whats a good thriller without the scare factor? Sign me up for book two!!

  • DESTINY DEFIED

    I love how this was about spiritual warfare! The story of Riki is heartbreaking, but I like that it shows that hearts can be changed.

  • DESTINY DEFIED BY JA MARX

    I am a huge Frank Peretti fan, and I didn’t think this book was Frank Peretti meets Treasure Island. The thoughts an actions of the head demon felt forced which made it difficult to get into. The interaction between Hope and the boys was the best part of the book.
    This would be a good book for Christmas for a young adult.

  • BOOK REVIEW: DESTINY DEFIED BY J.A. MARX

    The story line was intriguing: five teenagers on a remote island battle the forces of spiritual darkness. I liked how the Christian young people in the book automatically knew to turn to God when frightening things started happening on the island. I liked the emphasis put on purity, loving others, and trusting Scripture.

  • DESTINY DEFIED BY J. A. MARX

    This first book in a teen series about spiritual warfare is off to a pretty good start. You’ll read much about the interaction of four guys as they are confronted with spiritual evil. The gospel is clearly presented and you’ll see its transforming power. The writing is somewhat intense, with choppy sentences, but that is probably something teens will like.

  • DESTINY DEFINED

    J.A Marx tells a great story in Destiny Defined. Its full of action, friendship, and fun. The characters are interested and sometimes even relatable. I found my self even laughing at some of there dialog from time to time. I really enjoyed this read and think its perfect for any avid reader you have in your house. I can’t wait to see what happens in the rest of her series!

  • LITFUSE PUBLICITY: DESTINY DEFIED (THE DESTINY SERIES – BOOK ONE) BY J.A. MARX

    There was plenty of intrigue and for those who are worried if you won’t be able to tell the bad from the good, and the good from the bad – J.A. Marx has done a wonderful job of keeping the two separate even when Sabio becomes tempted to believe the Lord Vetis and his ‘dark’ magic. With the three other young men who are his close friends, Sabio begins to realize that all his science and his falling into league with Vetis isn’t really the right thing to do – however I’m not going to give away all the spoilers in the book, because I’d like you to enjoy it as much as I did.

  • SURPRISED ME

    It actually really surprised me!! While the story line is far-fetched (um, that’s probably due to the genre, right?), the story-telling was good. The young men in the book were quite refreshing, and it was interesting seeing the unfolding of the lives and inner workings, not just of Riki, but of her rescuers as well. Overall, yes, I’d recommend!

  • DESTINY DEFIED – BOOK 1 IN A NEW SERIES

    Another wonderful YA series begins, and I can’t wait for book 2! The characters and story line are well written and drew me in quickly. The worst part of reading this book is waiting for the next one. Whether you are a YA or not, anyone who loves fantasy/sci-fi will really enjoy this book. It will draw you in, then leave you wanting to know more.

  • DESTINY DEFIED BY J.A. MARX #BOOKREVIEW AND #GIVEAWAY

    I liked the friendship of the foursome and how they didn’t really preach to each other or to Riki. I thought it was great how they used code words to help each other out, which to me is a great way to help someone without antigonizing them. If their attitude would have been ungodly and had treated Riki differently, it would most likely have an opposite effect causing Riki to not accept God’s love.

  • FRANK PERETTI MEETS A MODERN DAY TREASURE ISLAND! {AND KINDLE GIVEAWAY!}

    I love a good Christian thriller and this book is no different! I have to admit I had a hard time getting into it as first. There are several main characters and I had a hard time keeping track of them all. After getting a ways in though I became enthralled with all of the characters and the wonderful depth the author gives you. I felt as though I really knew these people, especially the boys. This is a story about struggling with your beliefs and acting on those beliefs. Showing love through God and believing are some big tests they face. I think even though this is a spiritual thriller a lot of the topics and themes can be related into your own life. I think we all struggle from time to time and have to hold fast to our faith to keep us strong.

  • DESTINY DEFIED REVIEW

    I do feel that the book touched on some good topics such as struggling with faith, struggling with temptation, pride, feeling disconnected from God, and showing Christian love in action.

  • EXCEPTIONAL NEW SUPERNATURAL SUSPENSE NOVEL

    While there is emphasis on spiritual warfare, “Destiny Defied” presents the gospel in an uncompromised manner. I believe that the way the “Fearsome Foursome” interacted with Riki had to be one of the best examples of living your faith that I have ever encountered in the many books I have read.
