This is a pretty suspenseful novel. I liked Juliet as she is a strong character. It was good to see how her family and friends rally around her in her time of need. This novel really gives one pause to think how well we know another person, even being married to them. While this is part of a series, it novel can stand alone.

Since this is the second book in a series, the big question I always have is, “Do I have to read #1 first?” I do think this title mostly stands on its own, however there are at least a few things that wouldn’t make a lot of sense without knowing the previous story. Not enough to truly detract from the tale, but my recommendation would be to try to start with Truth Stained Lies.

I was impressed by the degree to which the author was willing to let her characters suffer (that’s harder for a writer than you might think), and this story does possess a satisfying, hopeful ending that is sure to please Terri Blackstock’s many fans.

The final 100+ pages are especially riveting, as discoveries are made and attacks are unleashed. It’s nearly impossible to discern the motives of several characters at this point, and Juliet needs to know who’s on her side.

For a mystery with plenty of action that features a unique trio of savvy ladies, head for The Moonlighter’s Series by Terri Blackstock.

Terri Blackstock’s name on a book is pretty much a guarantee of a great mystery topped off with a good dose of faith. And Distortion just provides more evidence for that guarantee. By the second page, the mystery is established, and the suspense continues to grow throughout the story.

The plot is fascinating, and I found it very interesting to read that Terri got the idea for the story when she and her husband returned a U-Haul truck in a scary part of town.

  • I liked the different perspectives we got to see and it was fun to see the whole family involved in trying to figure out the situation. I haven’t read book one and felt like I did miss out on something, but the story line wasn’t confusing because of it. I liked that Juliet had a deep faith, but still questioned why, and that her family had varying levels of faith due to a very hurtful incident in their childhood.

Many Christian book series have a completely different set of characters for each new book, but Distortion returns to the same characters that were introduced in Truth Stained Lies, but this time the focus is on stay-at-home mother, Juliet Cole, as she searches for her husband’s killer. It is a little bold, especially for a Christian novel, to kill off a character’s spouse in a sequel, but author Terri Blackstock cleverly used the death as a plot device; reuniting Juliet with her sisters and PI Michael Hogan to solve another mystery, but one that is more personal. Distortion is a tight, well-written mystery-thriller, page-turner that I highly recommend reading.

I knew right from page one of Distortion that something bad was about to go down. The foreshadowing was perfectly set and the suspense was there even without any obvious clues. That is the testament of a gifted writer of suspense!

This was a thriller from start to finish. I love when books hit the ground running and don’t wait several chapters in for the action to begin. This was action packed from the get go. Poor Juliet’s husband is murdered right in front of her. But the ensuing consequences and double life he’s been leading are even more heartbreaking than the death itself.

I loved Blackstock’s writing and the way she had me turning pages without figuring things out on my own. The action kept me into a long book and never really slowed down. It was perfectly paced and the anticipation was killing me!

Distortion was a great read and one of the best thrillers I’ve read in a while!

Action-packed and featuring Blackstock’s signature suspense, “Distortion” is a thrilling read from beginning to end…As with Blackstock’s other books, I love that she makes no hesitation in celebrating faith with a clear, accessible gospel message, even in the midst of hypocrisy. Deep themes of betrayal are woven into the story alongside of the power of forgiveness, confession, and accepting the consequences of ones actions. As such, not only will “Distortion” provide you with an entertaining read, but you will find yourself taking a look at your own faith and wondering if you would be able to respond to the hard-ache with the strength that these characters do.

Can I just say do NOT read this book if you are home alone or in the dark of night? Seriously. This author can write! And make you think someone is out to get you. This book has twists and turns and starts out with a murder. You know you’re in for a good mystery when someone is murdered right off the bat! I love a good mystery and this is no exception. I know I have heard of this author before but cannot place any of her writings. I’m seeing this is part of a series and so now I’m off to find more. . . .but I won’t read them in the dark of night when my husband is gone and I can’t sleep. . . . because then things might start going bump in the night. The plot of “Distortion” is one that could come from current news. It was easy to imagine the nightmare Juliet’s life became after witnessing the murder of her husband then finding her horror compounded by discovering the web of lies surrounding him. His death and subsequent discoveries and threats were additional heartbreaking events to previous tragedies in the lives of Juliet’s siblings and friends. I loved the way they all stuck together to help each other despite their own troubles and grief.

This is another thrilling, suspense-filled winner from Terri Blackstock! I began this book today and finished today; it was that good. The short chapters helped to keep the tension ratcheted up and kept the story moving at a quick pace. There is an interesting plot with some unexpected twists. Readers get to be reunited with characters from the first book in the series, Truth-Stained Lies. There are definitely struggles with faith as various characters are faced with deception, kidnapping, murder and much more. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I think Juliet’s protectiveness as a mother drew me completely in! It would be beyond horrible to watch your husband be murdered but to find out there were HUGE secrets and lies would just be terrible. The investigation by the police would be bad enough but being a PI, she and her sisters couldn’t leave it simply to the police. I didn’t know who the bad guy was until the book was close to over and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!
I rate this a 5/5. It is the second is the series but can be easily read as a stand alone book.

I was excited to get my hands on second book in the Moonlighters Series. I love the mystery and suspense within the pages of Terri Blackstock’s books. Not only do you get lots of fast page turning but, you know that it will be tasteful and Christ centered.

All the sisters come together again with the help of friends to figure out if Bob’s death was a random shooting or was the murder set up to look like it. This time the stakes are high with the threat of Juliet’s and Bob’s children are at stake.

I love that all the sister are so different from each other. Each person in this novel is on different ends with their relationship with the Lord and yet they put aside their differences to help one another.

This was a spellbinding book. While it was technically a murder mystery, it was really more of a suspense novel, getting to the bottom of her husband’s secret life & extricating her family from it. I was so swept from scene to scene that I never got around to trying to figure out what I didn’t know. Even if I had, I don’t think I could have guessed, and that is my favorite kind of book. It allows me to enjoy it without rushing to see if I’m right :).

As much as I would love to gloat about always figuring things out from the start, I will confess this one had me going. The plot line was such that it kept you thinking, “Ok, this couldn’t get much worse” and then it did. The strength of character that Ms. Blackstock pours into her characters is what always fascinates me, and this one doesn’t disappoint. Her main character, Juliet, has been through it all but continues to take more. And as she takes more, it appears that he character continues to build rather than weaken. The message to me on that is that when we lean on His strength, there isn’t anything that we can’t endure. That’s one of the traits of her characters that always connects with me, in all of her books. The outcome of this book is nowhere near predictable, but it is one that will melt your heart.

Blackstock has written a suspenseful and dramatic novel that grabs you from the very beginning. Full of twists and turns, Distortion is a story that clearly pictures how the consequences and effects of actions either right or wrong effect not only ourselves, but everyone around us as well.
While I appreciated the suspense in the book, there were parts that just seemed and little far-fetched and a bit unbelievable…like every spouse of the siblings involved being murdered. One thing I did appreciate about the book was Blackstock’s character development and how she accomplished this by adding significant details at significant points in the story.

I didn’t start getting a feel for who the real bad guy was until nearly the last fourth of the book. What a fantastic book!! I haven’t read anything by Terri Blackstock and this one was superb on every level. Fast moving suspense with every page. This is the second book in this series though it could be read alone. I am going to go back and read the first one because it has the same people in it and is talked about in Distortion. The characters are great, I love how the family pulls together when tragedy strikes. After the murder the story continues to spiral for Juliet and her kids. Right when you think things can’t get any worse, they do! Juliet and her sister become sleuths on trying to figure out exactly who her husband was, since apparently she had no idea!

If you love suspense this is a fantastic book. I highly recommend!

In this novel, I love how she paints a picture right off the bat of a husband and wife who seem to have it all together. They have the perfect family, perfect kids, perfect job — literally their life couldn’t get any more perfect.

As I am reading Juliet’s story and watching her life unravel, I can’t help but feel pain for her — to discover lies, deceit, and more. Just when you think you know someone . . .

I am telling you — if you love to read Christian suspense, you have GOT to read this book.

I was totally hooked from the first page to the last page this book kept me completely transfixed, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what was going to happen next.

Distortion is a thrill ride of pure suspense. Juliet and her sisters are so well-described that you can actually picture them in your head and you can feel the pain, desperation and determination to find out what really happened to Bob, Juliet’s husband.

Oh, how I always look forward to another Blackstock book! Such talent in bringing the reader into the characters lives and making you feel what they’re experiencing. Distortion is a well written suspense novel that you can get lost in… the best kind of book.

When I get a new book by Terri Blackstock it’s like the world comes to a stop for me. I anticipate these so much that I want to savor every bit of it. Distortion is the second book in her Moonlighters series. I read the first book earlier this year and couldn’t wait to continue on with the story and the family that its all centered around.
It did not disappoint. Fast action and easy to follow reading made this one that I didn’t want to put down, plus Terri is able to add a salvation message to her books in a way that doesn’t come across as preachy. She is a master storyteller and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

I’m glad I chose to review Distortion – it helped me to remember how much I love suspense and crime-solving – something I had kind of forgotten!

While the premise of the book may not be new – a widow left groping in the dark about her husband’s secret life – I absolutely enjoyed how well the author dealt with it. Juliet’s disbelief – her attempting to hold out hope that the upright, outstanding Christian surgeon she was married to had been wrong. Her moving from grief, to denial to anger, and then deciding to be a hero for her children – all have been captured really well by Blackstock.

Distortion wasn’t screaming “I’m a Christian novel!!” which makes it a perfect read for anyone who enjoys a great book. It’s the second in a series but if you missed the first book, you can easily put together the basics of what happened from the details given in Distortion. Juliet, the main character of the novel, really puts her faith into action in this book. I can’t believe how much was packed into this story. The secrets to the private investigators’ way of solving crimes was very interesting. Above all, the story seemed like something one could find in any urban newspaper or on a 20-20 episode. Scary because it could happen, intense because of Blackstock’s extraordinary writing style, Distortion is a must-read.

A thrilling read from start to finish! A shocking story line that can be related to everyday life. I felt so connected to Juliet and her boys – I had a hard time putting down the book because I was so worried and wanted to make sure they were okay. A definite must read!

Blackstock portrays the illegal drug trade in all of its ugliness. It is surrounded by vicious crimes that impact everyone. Juliet begins her journey towards truth in a numb fog, but soon becomes a determined mama-bear, set on protecting her children and bringing her husband’s killers to justice. The characters from book 1 are also heavily involved, especially Michael, the ex-cop turned PI, who employs Juliet and her sisters. The action is non-stop and takes some turns you will never expect.

Distortion is a great novel for all those who like fast-paced suspense. I am looking forward to more in this great series.

From beginning to end, Distortion is a thrill ride. As the novel unfolds, more questions than answers seem to crop up, making for a confusing and enthralling reading experience.

While the novel is incredibly suspenseful, the aspect I enjoyed the most was the focus on family. Distortion is the second book in Blackstock’s Moonlighters series about siblings Jay, Juliet, Cathy, and Holly. (You do not need to read the first novel to enjoy this one—I didn’t!) These siblings have each others’ backs no matter what, and their love for each other really comes through on the page.

Distortion is the first Terri Blackstock book I’ve read, and I don’t know what took me so long! I’m excited to read more of this series!

Location may make a real estate deal, but the details make or break a book – and they totally make Distortion. As I read this book, I could see Juliet Cole. I could see her wrinkles and determination and mom shoes. I could see just how devastated was and then how determined she became. I could see the difference in appearance and attitudes between Juliet and another woman character, and those differences in the physical put the emotional differences in the spotlight.

I haven’t met a Blackstock book yet that I haven’t liked, and Distortion is no exception. It’s fast-paced, suspenseful, and full of mysterious drama. This was definitely my kind of mystery.

Terri Blackstock can certainly tell a story! She drew me in from the beginning and I didn’t want to put the book down until the end. I found myself feeling Juliet’s suffering. I wanted to help her find the answers to all of her questions. If you enjoy books that pull you into them and ask you to help solve the puzzles, this book is for you. While it is the second book in Terri Blackstock’s “Moonlighters” series, it can be read alone. I can’t wait for the next book!

Terri Blackstock is famous for her chilling thrillers and Distortion is not to be missed!
This is the second book in the Moonlighters series, though it can be thoroughly enjoyed as a stand-alone.
Distortion is really one of those “edge of your seat” joyrides!
The characters are relatable and the suspense is thick.
I enjoyed being completely immersed in the action, and was able to experience everything Juliet experienced as the story unfolded.
If you want a chilling read that will keep you turning the pages, don’t miss Distortion!!!

Well Once again my not being a Suspense reader has not mattered a hoot when reviewing Suspense Novels. I love the way Terri Blackstock writes, her story flows smoothly and her plot is really good. I love the Action, the Romance and Perhaps I may pick up another book of hers in the future… Is Julies husband who she really believes him to be ? Will she get over his death ? Is he really the innocent one or the guilty one ? Will Julie find love again ? or will her whole world fall apart ? What will she do to protect her family ? You will have to get yourself a copy of this book for sure. If your a suspense reader it is a must read ! You will love the romance and the love of family portrayed in this story a lot. I will be recommending it to my friends who love a great mystery.

This was a hard one to put down! From start to finish, I loved how there were so many twists, turns, and surprises.

“Distortion” is book two in the Moonlighters series. “Distortion” can stand alone, though it’s obvious from characters’ conversations and memories that a lot of story happened beforehand. This in no way made the plot confusing or hard to follow. The story line and outcome were satisfying and believable.

Because “Distortion” is more about mystery and action than character development, the reader only grows to know the characters at a surface level. That, however, did not in any way hinder my enjoyment of the book. If you like mystery and suspense, I recommend this book even if you haven’t read book one.
