Fetching Sweetness (Harvest House, July 2016)

Standing between Stephanie and her dream is one hundred pounds of lovable trouble.

It should have been so simple for Stephanie Pink: Meet up with Agnes Wharton in a small town in California, retrieve the reclusive author’s valuable new manuscript, and be promoted to a full-fledged literary agent.

But Agnes’s canine companion, Sweetness, decides to make a break for it before Stephanie can claim her prize. Until Agnes has Sweetness safely back at home in Eagle Cliff, Washington, Stephanie will never set eyes on the manuscript she needs to make her dreams come true.

When Stephanie tracks the runaway mutt to a campground, she meets Rhett Hastings—a man also on the run from a different life and a costly mistake. Rhett agrees to help Stephanie search for the missing dog…thus launching a surprising string of adventures and misadventures.

Once Sweetness gets added to the mix, it’s a recipe for love and loss, merriment and mayhem, fun and faith in the backwoods of the Pacific Northwest.

The word that comes to mind when I think of the book Fetching Sweetness is fun. I really did laugh out loud a couple times while reading, and I know I smiled a whole lot. It’s a light read but there are underlying life lessons and parts that made me think.

Sweetness is an energetic dog that not only tends to find animals in need but he apparently can also spot people in need. Rhett and Stephanie but don’t realize it but this canine is about to take them on an exciting journey. As an animal lover, I found myself laughing and being thoroughly amused by this story.

This was a completely different type of book from what I usually read, which is historical and Amish fiction. It was enjoyable and a light-hearted read. Sometimes hard to believe that some one could run into so much trouble. But of course it is fiction.

A most interesting part was when Sweetness brought a feral cat to Stephanie. Sweetness was carrying the screaming cat by the scruff of its neck. Sweetness reminded me of when our cat brought a bird and a chipmunk into our house. Both live and at different times.

What I got was a good, solidly written story, with plenty of fun and adventure—-like the author’s romantic suspense and mystery books.

Dana Mentink writes with authority on dogs, running business, the United States especially California, Washington State, and the Pacific Northwest, medical issues, road trips, publishing, and being a writer. This book is full of FUN from the first page to the last page. This book has everything I love. A snarky, sassy bookworm heroine, a dog, and a road trip. I love books with animals and children in them because you can’t control their behavior, and Sweetness is a dog that makes a break for it the first chance he gets, which sets the tone for the rest of the book. It has a theme of faith that runs through it. It’s a very cute and fun read, perfect for a day when you need some laughter.

What an enjoyable story! I must admit, I think Sweetness stole the show, with his habit of finding and rescuing other creatures. I like the way Rhett is searching to serve God, and Stephanie reluctantly realizes she is following God’s plan for her life after all.

Stephanie Pink is all set to finally get what she has wanted for so long. All she has to do is meet author Agnes Wharton, and get her manuscript. When she gets that she will be a literary agent on her own. Sweetness is the name of Agnes Wharton’s dog and Sweetness has run away. Stephanie has to find the dog before Agnes will talk to her. She meets Rhett Hastings a man who is also running away and says that he will help find the dog. After that things will never be the same. Will Rhett become her friend or just her helper? Will they start to like each other? I give this book a 4/5. Anyone who loves dogs will like this story. I was given this book by Litfuse Publicity Group and all opinions are mine.

This was a fun, sweet story. The author used authentic, flawed characters and created a dramatic story that showcased love, forgiveness, and healing. But the humor was what made me love this book. If you mix a crazy dog, two misguided people, and and a very eccentric old woman together the result can only be humor. Faith and a kidnapping certainly didn’t hurt the plot either. Overall, this was a really entertaining story that taught some lessons as well. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christian romance with lots of humor.

Sweetness? Stephanie is on her way to a promotion as a literary agent. But before that could happen Sweetness enters her life.

Sweetness? That doesn’t fit with the author who drove off with Stephanie’s purse. SNow she’s stuck with a the help of a stranger to track down the dog and the author.

Sweetness? Were the surprises encountered when they caught up with the author sweet? Maybe it just all boils down to A Cup of Mud.

Thank you, Ms Mentink, for this very entertaining book. I enjoyed the smiles brought on by Sweetness.

Both of our characters are slightly flawed which makes them that much more loveable. They are honest, real and moving. They are struggling like many of us have in life and together with Sweetness they learn many life lessons. You will laugh, cry and be happy throughout this well written novel. You watch as they grow and learn that what they thought they wanted out of life was a dream that may not have been their own to begin with. A definite must read!

Fetching Sweetness by Dana Mentink was an adorable read. Just look at the face of that dog. This book had me in tears, good tears, like the laugh out loud, deep down belly laugh, that put me in a hilarious fit that made my husband sit up and take notice of what I was reading. This book is chock full of misadventures, lovable characters- both human kind and animal kind. Before I can even talk about this book, I have to talk about the Bible verse on the front – one of my favorites! “For I know the plansI have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11.

I knew it was going to be a great book just because of that in itself, and I wasn’t wrong at all! First I will say this isn’t the only book I’ve read of Dana Mentink’s! She really knows how to write some pretty cool pups in her stories and I really enjoyed it in the other book I read. Funny stuff here! While there are some amusing scenes, particularly with a dog, this book is not quite as engaging as the first one. Sweetness is a bit overshadowed by the human characters in this one, which was not the case with the canine star in book one. This book was even better then the first one which I also really enjoyed. I loved the crazy Stephanie Pink and her off the wall ideas. I was immediately ready to root for her since she started the book at the bottom of her luck…riding on a bus to get to a meeting because she lost her drivers license. There are so many things that go wrong in this book so quickly but it doesn’t end for Stephanie when she doesn’t get the manuscript that she is looking for after meeting with the reclusive author, Agnes Wharton. Stephanie is tasked with finding in the small town in California and returning Agnes’ dog, Sweetness to her in Washington. Without a license and without any purse (because she left it in Agnes’ car), she is without hope until she meets Rhett and the trouble doesn’t end there!!

From page one readers will be laughing at the mishaps and adventures of Stephanie Pink, as she gets entangled with a somewhat naughty but loveable dog, Sweetness, and a famous man, Rhett Hastings, that is running from his previous life. Readers will be pulled into the story from page one and enjoy it until the very end. I would recommend this novel to readers that enjoy sweet contemporary romance with a dog in the bargain.

Fetching Sweetness is a pure delight to read. I had so much fun following the adventures of Sweetness, a fun loving, trouble-causing, (innocently, mind you) huggable dog and a few other critters they pick up along the way. His care-taker and literary agent want-to-be, Stephanie, and Rhett—who is trying to sort out his life—are from two different realms which adds the perfect amount of friction and misunderstanding. Fetching Sweetness isn’t just a fun, fluffy read. There is heartbreak, humility, encouragement, joy, and growth in the spiritual journeys the characters follow. I highly recommend this sweet story. You’ll find lots of surprises and laugh out loud moments.

Sweetness steals the show. And a few kisses. And a whole lot of laughter. He may be a dog, but you get the treat when you sit down to read Fetching Sweetness! An absolute delight in every way!

Some books just catch you off guard. That is the case with Fetching Sweetness. See I’m not really a dog person so I wasn’t sure what to think about this book as I assumed it would be all doggy love all the time. However this book has a great story about redemption and finding God’s will for your life.

    I really enjoyed this!

Sweet, fun and light. I suggest you to follow in “Sweetness” paw-steps and dash right out to the bookstore, and grab yourself a copy of Fetching Sweetness. And while you’re out, and if you have not read Sit, Stay, Love, grab that one too. You’ll thank me.

Although I’m not a dog lover, I really enjoyed Dana Mentink’s first Love Unleashed novel, Sit, Stay, Love. I had a harder time warming up to this novel, not because of the dog, but because I just didn’t care for the characters in the early chapters. I don’t mind flawed characters but I couldn’t connect with either Stephanie or Rhett. Additionally, I found it quite a stretch, not to mention unsettling, that Stephanie would take off in an RV with a man she had just met to return a dog to the elusive owner-author. (Although I did laugh at the flour incident!) I warmed up to them in the second half of the novel as I got to know them better and as their development progressed with the story. Mentink weaves important truths into this tale, and I’m glad I stayed with it.

Dana Mentink’s novels always contain absolutely adorable dogs and also have God very much at the centre.

Her stories are highly amusing but will also make you think. If you absorb her writings, they may just help you abandon yourself to God’s plans for your life.

    A wonderful book.

Fetching Sweetness was full of laugh-out-loud hilarious mishaps and mayhem, some inspiring moments as the characters try to figure out their lives, and a little sweet romance. It was an enjoyable read from beginning to end and perfect for contemporary romance readers and dog-lovers alike.

This story is creatively written and just fun. I read it in a couple of days because I couldn’t put it down.

I caught myself reading funny sections to the Cowboy. I caught myself giggling.

Dana Mentink has done it again. I love her first novel of “Sit, Stay and Love” so, reading Fetching Sweetness was just as great, if not better! Again, this book is perfect for the dog lover in all of us. This book is super great and has a wonderful love story behind it. I found myself flying through the pages because I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen. Don’t miss this summer read!!

Fetching Sweetness is a lovable story that was laugh-out-loud funny. I absolutely adored Sweetness and I grew to love Stephanie and Rhett as well. Add in an eccentric writer and a much desired manuscript and the story goes on from there.

What a lovely book to read before school starts back. It was an awesome beach read on that last hurrah vacation. I loved it. The beginning of the book had me in stitches. It was so much fun to read. I actually found myself laughing out loud at times. The book is a sweet and tender read. I loved the hermit author character portrayal of Stephanie Pink, with a dog and interesting male thrown in for good measure. This is a light, easy reading can’t miss, must read, kind of book. Loved! Loved! Loved!

What a fun novel. There are plenty of crazy adventures yet some serious issues addressed. We find that God has a way of directing lives to get people where He wants them to be. We can’t be the CEO of our life or that of any one else. Those serious issues are surrounded with humor so this is a fun novel to savor.

Fetching Sweetness by Dana Mentink was a super sweet story. I read this book in about a day because it is a shorter book and it was also an easy read. I did find that I was able to predict what was going to happen throughout most of the book, but that didn’t bother me

The human main character, Stephanie, had me chuckling on several occasions. Author Dana Mentink wrote Stephanie’s part in such a way that I could almost hear her thinking aloud. Part of her charm was her reluctance to lean fully on God while making life choices. This book sends a strong message about the desire to follow a dream, but only when it lines up with God’s will. It’s a far-fetched story that has tender notes of hope, forgiveness, and acceptance of others.

The real beauty in Mrs. Mentink’s book is that Fetching Sweetness is not a cookie-cutter or formulaic story. The characters seem real, like people you would love to befriend, and in their times of need be there to encourage them and support them. This story is full of comedy and sweetness as the title implies, but it delves deeper and looks at heart issues and the complexity of loss and love.
