God’s mission has not changed. He wants not only Israel but also all His redeemed children to show the world what it looks like when God reigns, to seek the lost and to become His agents of redemption. I enjoyed watching the DVD and appreciated the information and insight in the Discovery Guide. Both gave me a fresh understanding of God’s Word. I highly recommend both! May we live passionately for God and boldly go out and make God known!

I love when I can pair a DVD study with a book and this one is awesome – since it takes the reader into the Middle East to see and try to experience what those patriarchs may have been experiencing and then relates it back to modern Christians in our mission to spread the Gospel. The DVD comes with a leader’s guide that will guide you in how long it should all take broken down into the separate segments such as watching the DVD, DVD discussion, small group study, faith lesson and closing so the leader will know how to plan their time. The total length of the DVD is 175 minutes split between the five episodes, and range from between 30 to 33 minutes a piece.

There is this great Bible study book and DVD called Israel’s Mission. I love Bible studies. Even if I don’t have as much time in them as I would like. This one is like a visit to Israel. Each DVD lesson is about 30 minutes in length, and very captivating too! Journey through Israel as you study the Bible. Talk about breathing life into scripture. To see the land; this really makes the lessons so much more powerful! Each lesson begins with “Opening Thoughts” from Ray and then the Discovery Guide which encourages you to think on what you learned and determine how it is to be applied in our lives. This is full of fascinating facts, photos and history!

Ray Vander Laan knows the culture, history, and the land of Israel. He brings out some amazing information that ties God’s word to life. We happened to watch this series before we went to Israel not long ago and I recalled many of the lessons from the other’s in this series when I was in the Land. The DVD really brings the word alive while you are digging into scripture and seeing the places.

I really didn’t know what to expect when I started this series – I’m not a huge history/geography buff – but I was blown away by the use of the historically significant sights in this series. It was fascinating to see where these events in the Bible took place, and it was neat to kind of take a tour along with the people in the video.

The teacher – Ray Vander Laan – was a dynamic speaker who did an excellent job of relating the messages of the lessons to everyday life. He was very passionate about the topic, and it was very easy to listen to him.

Each DVD lesson is about 30 minutes in length, and will hold you rapt, as you learn! Learning about the bible, while being shown where it occurred, helps to really cement the lessons in you mind. In each lesson there are Opening Thoughts from Ray and then the Discovery Guide allows you to pause and think about what you were told and how it applies.

The author and teacher of this video series gives you details based on cultural views, historical context and geography that has gotten lost in our modern day Western culture to help you understand what the biblical writers meant in a deeper, most eye-opening way. In this series, Mr. Vander Laan focuses on our mission – bringing others back into the family fold – and how this assignment was given to the Israelites in the desert and again to the followers of Jesus. The Discovery Guide gives you more details and focuses on other stories in the bible in greater detail that also support this idea of redemption. Maps, side bar notes and “Did You Know” sections help bring the reader to a deeper understanding of the passages covered.

In this informative DVD, Ray Vander Laan takes us through the some of the prominent cities discussed in the Bible. It is filmed on location as he shows the land, explains the culture, and describes how these tie together with the specific Bible story. This specific study focuses on our call to the lost and hurting people.

Each episode is a little over 30 minutes and is meant to be used with the “Discovery Guide”. It is not necessary, but helpful if you would like to dig deeper into the study. Ray has a solid grasp on the Bible and the environment, culture and history. It is very informative and enjoyable to watch. It can be used as a group study, or for individual use.

Thank you, Litfuse, for this great set! As always, this is my honest opinion. Here’s to many more!!

I feel like this study could definitely benefit old and new Christians alike. It easily kept my interest with all of the historical information provided. I love reading up on the backgrounds and histories of what I am learning about, so that was definitely a plus for me. There was a LOT of information packed into this book. It is a study that you will have to devote a lot of time into, but overall I feel like it is worth the effort!

I have enjoyed watching the video lessons on Israel’s Mission. The companion Israel’s Mission Discovery Guide is also available that will complete this Bible study. I like Ray Vander Laan’s teaching style in these videos. Since the video lessons are shot in Israel, there are amazing backdrops while he is teaching. The Israel’s Mission DVD features 5 video lessons that are each just over 30 minutes long. These are designed to watch as part of a group, or individually. The Israel’s Mission Discovery Guide has a lesson that corresponds to each video lesson to be completed after watching the video. There are then 5 daily readings with questions to do before you watch the next video. I liked Ray Vander Laan’s teaching styled in the video lessons. This is a great Bible study.

It’s very well done (except that I found the background sound often drowned out the speaker). I found the information Mr. Vander Laan shared to be fascinating, and brings in deeper understanding of the biblical culture. This series of videos, along with the study guides, would be excellent for small group study, family study, or even individually. I love the part of this book that teaches that lost sheep that have wandered away are to be looked for, found by, and restored back into the beth ab by their Shepherds/Patriarch. Sheep can become lost from spiritual/family homes due to becoming marginalized from oppression, poverty, being captured by enemies, making bad choices, etc. No matter what the reason is for the sheep wandering away, the Bible is pretty clear that their Shepherds are supposed to look for them, find them, celebrate that they have been found, and restore them back into the beth ab.

I also love the part of the book that teaches about a sulha meal, which is a meal of reconciliation to restore a person back to his/her place and, and the situation is forgotten at the end of the meal and not spoken about again.

The DVD sessions were about a half hour long each and the book really went more in depth using the DVD as a launching pad. The topic is such an important one and really made me think about my role in reflecting who God is to His lost children and what more I can do to bring them back to Him.

I confess that far too often when I study the Bible I don’t think about it in its historical context—I simply read it from my 21st century perspective. So I found this DVD from Ray Vander Laan to be completely captivating. Each session takes place in the Holy Land, and Vander Laan spends a lot of time explaining the context—what those living in Bible times (and shortly after) would have understood because of their culture that those of us living now would probably miss. I was especially fascinated by the context surrounding the parable of the prodigal son—there are so many nuances to that story that I would never consider but would have been readily apparent to the Jews at the time.

I was amazed at how much I learned from watching this video, and the companion guide aka book that comes along with it. It provides five lessons which goes right along with the video. After each lesson there are questions that really make you think about what you just learned, and gives you space to write your answers. There are also memory verses

The one lesson that really stood out for me was the story of Abraham and the father of the prodigal son. “The Lost Son.”
I had no idea about the importance of the patriarch’s role as head of the family. It’s the representation of how God is our head. There is A LOT detail about Jewish culture and how the family is set up.

The DVD is beautifully done, and the guide a great asset to compliment the book

My first thought in reading through the workbook, and watching the DVD lessons, is this is an excellent study to teach a new Christian, or a longtime Christian, the story of the whole Bible and how it blends and completes one another. It shows God’s Kingdom plan. It shows God’s big story of salvation.

I learned so much! There is a companion book that goes along with this DVD and it is like doing an in-depth Bible study. It would be excellent as a small group study or as a study at church. Of course, doing it on your own is a most excellent idea, too! As a former homeschool Mom, I would have definitely used this resource in our homeschooling. This series would make a great Bible study for your next small group study. Ray Vander Laan did an excellent job at filming and conveying the teachings found only in Israel’s land. I loved how he filmed and showed Israel and it helped me to imagine what it looked like since I haven’t ever personally seen the Holy Land. I loved the topics of reaching out to the lost sheep and the power that is found when Jesus touches their hearts and lives and they are transformed. I also loved that the book shared tons of scriptures and had a great number of questions where readers could ponder and discuss with a small group.

I greatly enjoyed this DVD series. It does seem a little drawn out (long) for today’s hurry-up mentality. However, his scholarship is outstanding. The theology is right on target. But most people probably won’t take the time that this study will require. There is a study guide, lesson one is over 58 pages, with the amount of time required for each portion of the study. Well worth it if they did.

This is kind of a travelogue and sermon, with very illuminating illustrations. One could learn a lot from the messages taught. He’s certainly passionate about the subject, and engaging.

The DVD sessions are completely FASCINATING! Don’t worry, you won’t be snoozing through this series, but instead will be excited as you learn about the life in the Middle East, getting an up close encounter of the Village of Qatzrin where Jesus did much of his teaching, learn about the prodigal son and learn about a lost son who is the model for how much God loves us even if we find ourselves far from him. This DVD series makes the Bible come to life with stories and the companion guide is brilliant for any small group looking to go deeper. The companion guide has five days for each session and there are a total of 5 sessions.

I think our mission is so simple, yet so important: BRING BACK the LOST sheep and Ray does a powerful job in illustrating this message when he takes us to different places in ISRAEL to make this message come to life!
