The novel seemed like it would be an interesting read with very lively characters. However, I found both Angela and Rose to be very annoying and over-the-top. They act very selfish and harsh towards each other but expect the other sister to love them back in return. I also wish the story between Juliana and Silvia was developed a bit more instead of being filled with fluff pieces of Rose and Angela going to the antique store and playing with horses.

This is not your typical Amish book in that the main characters are English but are visiting the Amish area and their aunt. I rather liked this twist as a change. I also liked that the sisters were so real and reflect the misunderstandings that sisters can often have.

High praise from me. This is a fascinating character study, rich and introspective, one that I wanted to take my time with and savor each page. A relationship drama in which deeper themes emerge beyond what appears on the surface. It’s not a fast-paced novel that you find hard to put down, although I did find it difficult to put down. It’s a meaty story, one that you can enjoy as you sink into its depths. I felt a sense of realism – and while I didn’t always like the behavior of Angela and Rose, I liked them. Spiritual themes are subtle in this story, but ever present. Kate Lloyd is an impressive, consummate writer and I look forward to the next book in this series.

There are aspects which I liked, but particularly Angela and Rose felt disjointed to me. Maybe it was the alternating perspectives that bothered me (unusual for me). Maybe it was their multiple emotional/relational/spiritual issues. Normally, I like dimension in a character but in this case each new ‘layer’ felt disconnected from the others. I can’t really pinpoint an exact reason for my lack of excitement over this story, which probably means it’s limited to me and most people will really enjoy it! So don’t let my ‘meh’ review keep you from trying it out for yourself!

A Letter from Lancaster County is a beautiful story of pain, regret, sister love, hope and faith. Even when we struggle and are in pain, we can always find a way to move forward if we have hope, faith and love in each other. It is a truly inspirational novel that you will love to read over and over again.

The story is told from the perspective of two very different sisters, Angela and Rose. The constant change in voice from one sister to the other is not only exhausting but also very difficult to keep up with. Readers are likely to find the need to flip the pages backward to see which character is doing the speaking.

A Letter from Lancaster County by Kate Lloyd is book one in the Lancaster Discoveries series. Love, faith, longing and sibling rivalry and so much more are found in this book. I have 3 sisters and we are all very different. I could relate to the sibling rivalry. The author has a good story line – and real feeling characters. It’s set in the heart of Amish Country – and the descriptions made me feel like I was there. I enjoyed reading this book. I am looking forward to the next installment.

The book is filled with life lessons and reminded me of how we think someone else’s life looks better than our own. As the sisters start to look at their life, they find that they need to work on making themselves happy and being thankful for what they have. I enjoyed the way A Letter from Lancaster County was written. It was written from both sisters’ points of view, both Angela and Rose. The chapters alternate between the two sisters. The girls are very different, and so it was interesting to hear each of their interpretation and feelings of the same event. The story moved along at a good pace, not losing my interest at any point.

Two sisters are on their way to visit with an aunt they haven’t seen in years after the death of their mother. Angela and Rose are as different as two sisters can be and unfortunately, they don’t currently enjoy a close relationship. What was really intriguing to read was their inner thoughts about how they really felt about each other among many other topics.

We are in Amish/Mennonite Lancaster, PA area, and become immersed in the local land, traveling by both car and buggy. Sylvia is a Mennonite and has invited her estranged sister’s daughters to come and spend time with her, and for them it is a stretch to be in each other’s company, but Rose and Angela agree.
