It’s a Battle of Wills … and Love Is on the Line!

Rural switchboard operator Georgie Gail is proud of her independence in a man’s world . . . which makes it twice as vexing when the telephone company sends a man to look over her shoulder.

Dashing Luke Palmer is more than he appears though. He’s a Texas Ranger working undercover to infiltrate a notorious gang of train robbers. Repairing telephones and tangling with this tempestuous woman is the last thing he wants to do. But when his stakeout puts Georgie in peril, he realizes more than his job is on the line.

“Gist does it again with a superb cast of characters. She is a master at weaving together her trademark independent heroine, entertaining action based on historical events and love that melts your heart. Her latest project [Love on the Line] will certainly keep her fans longing for more.” –Romantic Times

“The characters are imaginative and likeable, while the plot keeps the pages turning.” –CBA Retailers Magazine

Charlene at Quintessentially Quilly This was my first Deeanne Gist novel, but it won’t be my last. “Love on the Line” charmed me from beginning to end. The story’s authentic setting brings the entire town into the novel via the telephone “party line” and weaves breath-holding high tension and laugh-out-loud moments throughout the tale. However, what impressed me most about Deeanne Gist’s novel was her ability to create flesh-and-blood characters — real and believable people — from mere words and imagination.

Martha at Our Family’s Adventures Deanne Gist’s books are always fun!! This one is no exception! I love the history in this one on the telephone operators. This is a fun read, one to curl up in the winter with!

Mocha with Linda When I curl up with a book by Deeanne Gist, I know I’m in for a treat and Love on the Line may be her most charming novel yet!

Wendy at Wall-to-Wall Books I loved this book! The story line just flowed so nicely for me. I found it to be very interesting, intriguing, sweet, kind of suspenseful, and cute.

Lori at Love, Honor and Stick Together Once again I’m thankful for the opportunity to read another book that allowed me to get lost in the story and characters. There were several night when I pushed the clock to read just one more chapter.

Diana at Hanging By A Thread Gist has believable and very likeable characters.

Lena at A Christian Writer’s World Author Interview

Beckie at By The Book When I read an historical novel, I want to feel like I am actually living in the era that the story is set.  In Deeanne Gist’s newest novel, Love On The Line , I did!   Gist has written a fun and well-researched historical romance that will have you longing for the days of telephone party lines and strong, handsome lawmen not afraid to stand up for what is right.  Okay, maybe not party lines, but you will definitely enjoy the Texas Ranger Gist has brought to life.

Nise’ at Under the Boardwalk I know that when I pick up one of Deanne’s books I will be treated to a strong, spunky heroine, maybe a bit ahead of her time, with passion for a cause she believes in. This book was no exception!  A delightful cast of characters that I loved and rooted for with a couple of surprise twists.  Love the historical background of the book as well.

Debra at Inkwell Inspirations I’m deep in the pages of Love on the Line . Georgie and Luke are all you’ve come to expect with a Deeanne Gist book–characters with a Hepburn-Tracy appeal .

Brenda at WV Stitcher Historical fiction fans will certainly enjoy this one, but it would also easily appeal to anyone who enjoys humor, romance, mystery, and a bit of suspense. Highly recommended!

Renee at Black ‘n Gold Girl’s Book Spot Hold the ‘phone! We’ve got another real winner here from Deeanne Gist! If you’re like me a handsome hero with *sigh* curly hair and a badge will make you melt anytime and when you throw in just a tad bit of swagger things get out of hand. Let me just say that Luscious Lucious puts all romance heroes to shame with his ability to make overalls sexy.

Margaret at Creative Madness Mama In the first scene I immediately took a liking to Georgie and her personality. [Gist] always has such strong feminist (in a good way) characters and that is one of the things that always makes her reads unique.

Heide at Starts at Eight I was worried at first that this story would be all to predictable. Much to my delight, Deeanne threw in plenty of twists to keep the story moving along. With ladies of the town, bandits hiding amongst them, hidden identities, shooting contests, budding romance, and so much more, Deeanne’s book is sure to capture your attention and keep you guessing until the end!

Karla at Ramblin’ Roads It was a fun, light read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Mindy at A Room Without Books is Empty I would recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction and western themes.

Molly at Reviews By Molly

Diane at That’s What I’m Here For An excellent book from start to finish…. and I mean all the way to the end, baby!!!

Amber at Snidbits I enjoyed this book!

Books, Etc…by Bina This author has an amazing ability to describe settings and people so that you have a definite picture album going in your head. If you like romance…and westerns…and humor…and birds…(yes, these all go together…promise!!) this would be a great book for you.

Caroline at Happy Four This is a fun work of fiction set in the time when party lines were coming to play. The book has some laugh out loud moments, mystery and romance. The characters jump to life as you are taken back in time. Sit back and escape for a while as you learn about Luke and Georgie and smile along with way.

Casey at Writing for Christ “Love on the Line” is a masterfully written tale with excellent wordsmithing, characters that I just fell in love with and sizzling moments of romantic tension. The writing of a Deeanne Gist novel always pulls me by the throat into the story. It’s descriptive, sometimes even funny, charming, beautiful, paints a picture in your mind’s eyes with so few words needed.

Babs Book Bistro I enjoyed the fun read.

Janet at Along the Way Love on the Line is well researched and the story is full of believable and lovable characters. I highly recommend this one!

Net’s Book Notes What a fun read! The story moved along quickly with just the right blend of romance and adventure between this telephone operator and Texas Ranger.

Roxanna at The Jolly Blogger Dee is a super talented, engaging writer.

Shonda at The Knowlton Nest I was absolutely fascinated with the quaint functions of the switchboard in this book. I was also amazed at the amount of research and intricate details the author included about birds, shooting events, outlaws and Texas Rangers. She weaved all this into an adventurous story.

Christen at Mom, Writer, Crafter, Coffee Drinker Deeanne Gist’s Love On The Line was an amazingly fun read full of excitement and adventure! You won’t be disappointed!

Chrystal at Self Employed Writer If you like love, mixed with a bit of history, and a side of adventure, I think this is a good curl-up-with-a-hot-cup-of-tea book.

Crystal at Cinnamon Hollow I immediately became engrossed and didn’t want to put it down.

Lydia at The Overweight Bookshelf This book (as is typical of Deeanne’s stories) was an absolute joy to read! The definitive voice in the historical edgy inspirational romance, Deeanne takes the seemingly ordinary and turns it into the extraordinary. Humour, drama, and sizzling romantic tension-this story has it all! The gloriously descriptive nature of her writing gives you tunnel vision when you put the book down and have to return to reality because it is so easy to become absorbed in another time and place.

Musings By Lynn I love the fiction of Deeanne Gist. She knows how to tell a great story, with well-rounded charactization and attention to detail. In Love on the Line, Deeanne brings to life Brenham, Texas in the early 1900’s.

Katie at Legacy of a Writer Love on the Line was a fun and some-what suspenseful read.

Julie at My Kansas City Mommy Deeanne has done it again. This book – Love on the Line – is an exciting and fun read. I was fascinated by mulitple aspects of this book – the Texas Rangers, train robbers and old-time telephones. It was so much fun to follow the storyline of the main couple – Luke and Georgie – wondering if they would end up together (I won’t be providing spoilers though – so no worries). This has been one of my favorite books by Deeanne Gist.

Brooke at I blog 4 books Deeanne Gist has done it again. I fell in love with the passionate, independent Georgie Gail as she tries to change the community and resist any possibility of falling in love. Luke Palmer is equally intriguing, and I loved getting to know him! The historical themes were intriguing – particularly the developments related to the telephone system in town. While I’m not crazy about animals and sometimes found the quest to save the songbirds annoying (sorry!), Georgie’s quirky personality overrode my dislike for the birds. Love on the Line is the perfect blend of romance, history, and suspense and will keep you hooked from the very first page!

Julee at Mommy’s Memorandum Gist is a great story teller.

Pam at Daysong Reflections As usual, Deeanne Gist has done her research and her story about Georgie Gail, a rural switchboard operator rings true.

Andi at Radiant Light What a great, great book! When Deanne writes a book you feel like you are right there! Georgie is quite a character and I just loved her!

Joan at Book Reviews from an Avid Reader Love on the Line is an enjoyable read. There is just the right mix of history, romance and adventure to keep one eagerly turning the pages. And there is humor thrown in from time to time to keep it light.

Marissa at The Review Stew Love on the Line was a great historical fiction novel! I love the independence of Georgia Gail, the telephone operator and how she loves and prides herself on her independence in a very difficult time period for women to be independent and work! I am a huge advocate for women’s rights and being a strong woman so I loved this part of the book the most! 🙂 But I am also a huge romantic so I loved the romance in this book between Luke, Georgia’s knight in shining armor and Georgia! I love that he accepts her independence (eventually!) and loves her for who she is! Their adventures were fun to read about and watch them grow and learn together!

Marg at Simply Shop and Save I enjoyed this book and would recommend it as a really good light read fiction novel.

Cara at the Law, Books & Life With Love on the Line, DeeAnne Gist is back with a collection of delightful characters.

Kemi at Homemaking Organized Blog This was a light quick read with Deeanne’s usual touches of humor. I enjoyed the historic insight and the opposites attracting and wishing they weren’t element.

Tammy at Tammy Is Blessed This was just a really fun book to read. I found the telephone operator thing to be fascinating, and hey, how can a Texas Ranger going undercover not be fun?!

Pattie at Fresh-Brewed Writer I enjoyed the story of Georgie and Luke. So much historical detail in the millinery plot, as well as a lot of great bird information and a few cultural details about the advent of the telephone industry in rural areas. And a nice love story as well. 🙂

Jennifer at Mrs Q Book Addict If you’re looking for a historical read with a bit of town gossip, and romance be sure to give this one a try.

Angela at All Grown Up?

Sheila at Showcase Sisters Overall, the Characters themselves were very realistic and the story is believable. Part of this is due to Gist’s masterful writing and part of it is due to her use of real occurrences weaved into the storyline.

Suzanne at Clicking Her Heels Deeanne Gist is quickly becoming a leader in historical fiction. With characters who are quirky and fun, Gist captures your attention and pulls you into the story and immerses you in another world.

Melanie at So Many Books.. So Little Time Enjoyable and light read that was hard to put down!

Tiffany at A Cozy Reader’s Corner ReviewsThis historical Christian fiction is not only humorous and romantic, its clever and well written.

Kelli at The Zen of Motherhood Deeanne Gist’s Love on the Line (Bethany House, 2011) is a stay-up-too-late, can’t-put-it-down read. Gist delivers an excellent plot, marvelous setting, and the most swoon-worthy hero, I’ve happened across in quite a long time. If you enjoy well-done historical romance, you won’t want to miss Love on the Line.

Kat at Reviews From The Heart A heartwarming and wonderfully fun love story soon develops between the two if only they could avoid getting their own lines crossed. I just know my readers will enjoy this fun adventure of the old fashioned version of telephone romance and therefore rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars.

Nora at Finding Hope Through Fiction Deann doesn’t disappoint. I learned so much about this time period and what it took to be a switchboard operator, all the while Deeann gives the reader fun information without bogging them down. This novel has all the winning combinations for me! This story was just plain fun! I highly recommend it!

Jacque at Good Family Reads This is another fun fast read from Deeanne Gist. If you loved her other books I’m sure you’ll find this one just as fun.

Lauren at 5 Minutes for Books Love on the Line by Deeanne Gist is an enjoyable, light-hearted story.

Michelle at Healing Hearts book review blog I enjoyed [Love on the Line] thoroughly and can’t wait to read Gist’s next book.

Michelle at Life in Review I very highly recommend this book! The writing is excellent. It’s fun, fresh, and full of great characters that will stick with you.

Beth at MBT Ponderers Author Deaanne Gist’s latest novel, Love on the Line , sets an independent heroine and a just-as-strong Texas Ranger hero against one another. The plot involves train robbers, the early days of telephones — and animals’ rights.

Linda at Christian Book Reviews Deeanne did a fabulous job relating to and keeping me interested and engrossed in the story, ending it with a shocking twist! Her meticulous research payed off in being well-versed in the times and intricately written details of the different circumstances, such as hitching a horse to a cart, setting up the wiring for the telephones, or hunting down the elusive train robber and his cronies. Not only was this a fun read, it also includes a lot of history, suspense as to the identity of the train robber, scouting him out, and Georgie’s interactions during her mysterious and dangerous encounters. Get a copy and enjoy a little fun down time!

Suzanne at Cows and Lasers and Everything in Between Love on the Line by Deeanne Gist has been one of the best fiction novels I’ve read this year.

Danielle at The Happy Wife I particularly enjoyed the unique setting for this book. The story line was intriguing, though I had figured out much of it before it was revealed. This did not make it any easier to actually put the book down though, as there were pieces that I had not figured out and I wanted to confirm my theories

Ariel at The Librarian’s Bookshelf This book surpassed my expectations.

Patty at Broken Teepee I really enjoyed this turn of the century tale. Learning about the early development of the telephone was really interesting as was learning about the exploitation of song birds for women’s hats. Such blatant destruction for the sake of fashion is just plain wrong. Ms. Gist’s characters are likable from the leads to the ancillary townspeople. The love story developed in a slow and true fashion and was entertaining to watch happen.

Melissa at Bibliophile’s Retreat Gist brings romance, comedy, adventure, and action together with well rounded characters in this novel. The plot is constantly buzzing along keeping readers turning pages.

Book Reviews By Jenny There was plenty of action while still having romance entwined throughout it. The book will keep you wondering and intrigued.

Mel’s World with Melissa Mashburn It is absolutely beautifully written, the characters, their stories, the details surrounding them are so rich and deep that you begin to feel like you are sitting right there with them. You can hear them speak, see all the little details of their appearance and at times even smell what it must have been like for the character at that very moment. Deeanne has an incredible gift of gently guiding the reader to come right in to the pages of the book with her.
