Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe (Thomas Nelson, February 2015)

What if you could ask God anything? What would you ask? And how would he answer?

Chelsea Chambers is on her own. After a public split from her NFL superstar husband, Chelsea takes a bold step out of the limelight and behind the counter of the Higher Grounds Café, an old-fashioned coffee shop in dire need of reinvention. But when her courage, expert planning, and out-of-this-world cupcakes fail to pay the bills, this newly single mom finds herself desperate for help. Better yet, a miracle.

Then a curious stranger lands at Chelsea’s door, and with him, an even more curious string of events. Soon, customers are flocking to the Higher Grounds Café, and not just for the cupcakes and cappuccino. They’ve come for the internet connection to the divine. Now the café has become the go-to place for people in search of answers to life’s biggest questions.

When a catastrophe strikes and her ex comes calling, Chelsea begins to wonder if the whole universe is conspiring against her quest to make it on her own. After a shocking discovery opens her eyes to the unseen world around her, Chelsea finds the courage to ask, and heaven answers in a most unexpected way.

  • A BLOG TOUR AND BOOK REVIEW

Max Lucado is a prolific author and while I have read most of his non-fiction books, I am fairly new to the fiction (aside from the children’s books). Understandably, when I found out I could have an opportunity to review his new fiction title, Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe, I jumped at it. I am so glad that I did.

Written with humor and a delightful cast of characters, Miracle at the HIgher Ground Cafe is built solidly around themes like forgiveness and the power of prayer in our lives. It was also a wonderful reminder that as hard as we often try we cannot do things alone, but need God each step of the way. It is classic Lucado in that the spiritual themes are so simple yet profound, and yet I also enjoyed reading Max Lucado’s fictional take on these oft times difficult themes. I found the book flowed nicely, was a very quick read and is perfect for a new believer or even those who may be questioning the Christian faith.

I have always enjoyed Max Lucado’s style of writing in his non-fiction spiritual books – it is easily understandable and speaks directly from his heart. So when I found out that he was writing a series of novels featuring heavenly visitors, I was thrilled! And after reading Miracle At The Higher Grounds Café, I was absolutely not disappointed!

Miracle at the Higher Grounds is a delightful introduction to what promises to be a fun and inspirational series of truly well-written tales from Max Lucado.

I highly recommend this book, and look forward to more stories!

  • THIS BOOK IS A VERY HEARTWARMING STORY MAKING YOU WANT TO LAUGH AND CRY ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

Chelsea Chambers is now a single mother, and alone because she is no longer with her husband. She is the owner of Higher Grounds Café which has been passed from her mother’s mother to her, and then Chelsea’s own mother to her. This book is a very heartwarming story making you want to laugh and cry all at the same time. I really loved it. I give this book a 5/5. I was given this book for the purpose of a review and all opinions are my own.

  • ENCOURAGING, INSPIRATIONAL AND ENTERTAINING READ

Miracle at the Higher Grounds Café by Max Lucado is a great story with several wonderful lessons. A café owned and operated by three generations of women is at the center of the plot of this immensely enjoyable read. Chelsea is picking up the pieces of her life after separating from her husband. She takes on the café and begins to see miraculous happenings almost right away.

This is a beautiful story with likable characters and lots of life lessons about forgiveness, loss and servanthood. I have already recommended this novel several times and will definitely buy several copies to give as gifts. Max Lucado is a first-rate storyteller. His fiction work touches my heart nearly as much as his non-fiction projects.

  • LAVISH BOOKSHELF REVIEW: MIRACLE AT HIGHER GROUNDS BY MAX LUCADO

Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe is a sweet book where people struggle with life, but plenty of angels and family are around to help. At times, I struggle with books like this that suppose the Word of God into modern and hip settings. For example, what would God really say about a son that plays video games? Is Max Lucado’s imagining via the God Blog correct?

Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe is worth a read. It’s not a definitive work of literature. It’s a nice book with a clear message. It’s the message that Chelsea, the main character, must learn: You are never alone with God.

Disclosure: I received this book complimentary in exchange for an honest review, however I was under no obligation to provide a positive review.

Okay so I love coffee. The fact that this takes place in and around a Cafe with coffee made it a must read. Well and the fact that it was written by Max Lucado. We love Max Lucado around our house. I fell in love with the book and the characters and found myself seeing myself in a lot of this. I mean, how often does someone else see something that we’re too busy or too worries or too stressed or too whatever to notice about our own selves and our own life. Chelsea is like that. She’s not “seeing” what is really going on around her. It takes a wake up call before she can see what she truly has to be thankful for and realize just how much God really is looking out for her.

Great book. Go grab a cup of coffee and a copy of the book and settle in for a great read.

You might want to make sure your coffee pot is working or that a coffee shop near you is open while you read this book. I just love the name of the cafe and wished that there was a place near me that was similar to the Victorian house/coffee cafe as in the story, as I would prefer it much more than the chain store types. Max Lucado has come up with a very interesting story about forgiveness, faith, and reconciliation.

This novel introduces Chelsea, who has been very publicly humiliated by her NFL superstar husband. She is trying to start her own life separate from him, but she has a lot of obstacles in her way. Fortunately, she has a bunch of heavenly beings looking out for her, including a guardian angel who is on a mission to help support Chelsea in her decisions.

This book is an easy read and it was the type of book I wanted to keep reading. I enjoyed it and would love to read more fiction by Lucado in the future.

It might just the the ‘reading mood’ I’m in- you know what I mean- only certain books will really grab you. others will leave you with the blahs, but this book took 3 chapters to interest me. It is totally appropriate for pre-Easter reading, with it’s good versus evil, and the importance of prayer. It is a very quick read, with enjoyable characters that read true to life. You may find yourself wishing you had such a coffeehouse in your town! When the characters learn to let go and ‘let God’ you will take away the same lesson, so important to remember this Lenten season as we remember God’s grace. This is also a great book to give as a gift!

  • MY THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS OF THIS BOOK

I was presently surprised when I first started reading it that it immediately drew me in and held my attention from the beginning to the end. Who knew you could put a modern day twist on the tale of It’s A Wonderful Life. We can all relate to the sensationalism of Sports heros, love for coffee, a new love for cupcakes with a twist. There you have a basis for a seemingly old story with a new modern day twist to it.

I like how Max draws you into the different lives of people in the coffee shop. Chelsea Chambers comes home to run the shop after the passing of her mom and her separation from her High School Sweetheart and NFL superstar husband. After a slow start, a stranger comes to the Cafe’ seeking work and then when the God Blog shows up on a mysterious router business starts to boom.

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUND CAFE

I enjoyed reading this sweet little story. It is a very fast read that is well written, which makes it flow really well. Chelsea opens her grandmother and mother’s old coffee shop, she struggles at first, but when some mysterious people bring a special router for internet service to the shop, the shop’s success is turned around. This story is made up of a wonderful cast of characters whose faith will give even the biggest skeptic a little hope. I have been going through a rough patch in my faith lately, and while, honestly, this book didn’t fix it, it did help a little bit. If you are looking for an enlightening, faith-filled story, that will give you hope, then this is the story for you.

  • Recently, I had the chance to check out new fiction novel, Miracle at the Higher Grounds Café, by Max Lucado. I had never read anything from Max before, but have heard many MANY people sing his praises, and he has over 120 million readers(!!), and frankly this sounded like just the book for me to try! I found it to be a very addictive and quick read, the main characters were wonderful. Though admittedly I did find a few places to be a little ‘too christian’ or even just cheesy. But overall, it’s a really good read that I would definitely recommend. I have already passed it along to a friend who loves Mr Lucado’s books, and she will continue to pay it forward.

What if God had a blog?

That’s the premise behind Max Lucado’s new novel, Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe. When Chelsea reopens the Higher Grounds Cafe, she doesn’t realize she’s at the centre of a spiritual battle for her neighbourhood. She’s just trying to make a life for herself and her two kids after separating from her husband, an NFL star who squandered their money and cheated on her.

Business at the cafe is going okay… until Chealsea gets slapped with an unexpected IRS payment. It would take a miracle to make that payment. And that’s exactly what she gets when two strangers show up to install a “router” and the only website accessible at the cafe is called the God Blog. Suddenly, the cafe is packed with people looking for answers.

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE BY MAX LUCADO WITH CANDICE LEE AND ERIC NEWMAN

I’ve always loved Max Lucado’s imaginative narratives that run through his nonfiction and children’s books. When you see his name, you know are going to be served a great story coupled with a biblical lesson. MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUND CAFE is his first novel, and while I don’t know how much was his actual writing vs the co-authors, the story does not disappoint. From the first pages, it had the feel of an old movie in the vein of IT’S WONDERFUL LIFE or other classic angel movies with a “techy” twist for today. Perhaps plans are already in place to make this a movie. If not, Hallmark take notice, this would be make a heart warming family movie.

Typical Max Lucado, sickly sweet, over the top, and sure to draw thousands of readers. A God Blog, a coffee shop, and a broken family are all about to intersect. Chelsea separates from her husband after his infidelity, takes their two children, and reopens her family’s coffee shop, The Higher Grounds Cafe. Things aren’t smooth sailing though; with hardly any customers she can barely keep the shop open. And to top it off the IRS hands her a bill totaling $80,000+. Chelsea needs a break. Little does she know that God has sent her guardian angel down to watch over her.

The author does an amazing job with the character descriptions and the story line! You will cry and laugh throughout the book. I was able to read the book within four hours.

This is a great Christian fiction book and I highly recommend it! Their are some twists that I didn’t expect however they are a part of everyday life now so it fits perfectly with the book!

At just under 200 pages, Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe is an easy-to-read novel that packs a powerful punch! I quite enjoyed delving into this character-driven novel that serves to remind us that God is always with us, and that there is a whole other realm operating around us. To be honest, and I’ve said this before, I know there are things in this world like divorce and broken families. That is a reality for far too many people, some of them near and dear to my heart. When I read a novel, I read to escape. I want to escape to a fake world, a world where the people are real, with real struggles, but who persevere. I want to read a novel in which the people are real, but they aren’t sinning. And they aren’t going further into sin. I don’t want to read about who slept with who, who had an affair, who is having an affair, and who is living, walking daily in unforgiveness because that is what sells books. I want to read about people who struggle but still choose the good.

  • I had never read an adult novel by Max Lucado but have read several of his non-fiction books and children’s books. I always enjoy his writing and figured this one would be no different. I love reading Christian fiction because I am always lifted up by reading about others overcoming their own struggles. This book was also heart warming and uplifting. The characters are so wonderfully developed. The cafe is where you wish you could go. It is in an old Victorian style home. The cafe is so warm and inviting even though it is filled with imperfect people each searching for something more in their lives. This book is hard to put down because you just want to continue reading it. I definitely recommend picking up a copy!

  • THIS BOOK IS MAKING ME HUNGRY + REVIEW — MIRACLES AT THE HIGHER GROUND CAFE

Lightly written with plenty of chuckle-inducing moments, Miracle at The Higher Grounds Cafe still packs a punch on the spiritual front. Spiritual themes of forgiveness, the personhood of God and prayer are skillfully interwoven. A clever device is used to show how God wants to have personal relationships with his creation. Lucado also emphasizes that once prayers are sent up, they linger like a heavenly aroma. The book also gives a glimpse at how things on earth must look from the spiritual realm. I especially loved the scene where the angels are rejoicing when a character accepts the gift of salvation. Fun characters, inventive plot devices and mouth-watering cupcake creations are icing on the cake (pardon the pun!). Miracle at The Higher Grounds Cafe is definitely a must-read.

  • WONDERFUL FAITH FILLED NOVEL!

I would recommend this exhilarating novel to anyone who enjoys reading novels that have a Christian message portrayed throughout. I have read many non-fiction books by Max Lucado but this is the first novel by him that I have read and let me tell you, he can write fiction and non-fiction. I really liked how he was able to describe the scenes as if I was watching them happen and how he easily mixed the perfect amount of faith based concepts in. I liked how this one included angels and how it illustrated that they are ever so present helping us through our everyday tasks. I especially connected with the notions of God answering people’s questions and like most people sometimes I wish we had a way where we could ask God a question.

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE, BY MAX LUCADO

I’ve been a fan of Max Lucado for many years and have some of his Christian Living/Inspirational books on my shelves. I presume most of my readers have read at least one Max Lucado book, but this is a great introduction for anyone who hasn’t. It isn’t a heavy read, the chapters are short, and I finished it within a day.

Yes, it is cliché at times. There’s the skeptical pastor and the child who believes. And yes, maybe it is a bit preachy especially in the replies and advice the many enquirers receive. But the characters are intriguing, especially Manny. We learn who – or what – he is at the start of the book, and it’s fun observing him getting to grips with life on earth. Overall, it’s a cute book to read and there are most definitely worse ways to spend a couple of hours.

  • MIRACLE AT HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE

Other than his Christmas novels he has written, I don’t recall reading an adult fiction novel by Max Lucado before, but I liked this one.

I did think the book could have been longer. The chapters were too short and ended abruptly, and the reader isn’t given much time to get to know the characters before the book is over, but I liked the plot, characters, and setting.

This isn’t t he first book to be written that has an angel in human form, and I like the idea. It worked well for the book, and the authors did a good job of writing him into the story.

Obviously, God would never have a blog where He answers questions, but it was a neat idea.

Overall, this is a cool little story and shows through fiction how much God cares about each one of us and is involved, but I did think it could have been deeper and been developed more.

Granted, Chelsea Chambers is not your usual coffee shop owner—she’s inherited one from her mom and grandmother along with some “to-die-for” recipes. She’s also inherited a coffee shop well bathed in prayer.

When all her best work and planning still aren’t enough to allow her to succeed and to pay her bills, God sends her some help in the form of a somewhat clumsy but talented barista named Manny.

  • A FUN READ WITH A SMALL-TOWN FEEL

One of my favorite movies is “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and this book is similar in that an angel is sent to earth to provide guidance to a family in crisis. It’s a quick and fun read with a small-town feel that will have you believing in second chances and never giving up hope. As a former single mother, I enjoyed watching Chelsea’s journey to independence and self-confidence. Life was overwhelming at times, but the journey was worth the lessons learned. And during a time when Chelsea felt nobody cared, she saw the signs that God was with her all along. It is a comforting thought for all of us.

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE

Once I read a bit about Miracle At The Higher Grounds Cafe I couldn’t wait to get my copy. Once I received it I couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed the story. Chelsea finds out that her husband of 13 years had cheated on her. He was a NFL superstar so the public knew all about it. She moved back to Austin to open up her families cafe. Only to find that her mother had not been paying the taxes and Chelsea needed to pay what was due or they would take the cafe and that was also her and her two kids home. When Manny falls (and he does fall) into Chelsea life as help for her Cafe things seem to change …. You will want to read Miracle At The Higher Grounds Cafe to see what happens.

  • I loved that we get to see some of what’s happening in the spiritual realm, from the importance of prayer to battles between angels and demons going on around humans while they’re unaware. It reminded me of Peretti’s fiction, but with more of a lighthearted view. I would highly recommend this novel if you like something more unique or need to be reminded there’s more to life than what we can see and that God loves you, so really I think everyone would enjoy it!

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE

Max Lucado’s latest release is the fiction book Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe, and I was amazed at how much I enjoyed this book. Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe is not like any other fiction book you have read, it is a creative uplifting story. Most of Lucado’s books are non-fiction and even with the switch of genre Lucado has continued to teach through his writing.

Miracle at the Higher Grounds will show you the power of prayer and how so many things can be at work even when you don’t see them happening around you. In this book you will find that although everyone has questions all of your answers can be found in Christ.

I love this book, you may be thrown off as it starts, but it will pull you in completely.

I received this book complimentary from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE

As a pretty fast read, a lot happened in the story. Not only was there the main story of Chelsea trying to find the new direction of her life with her children, but there were a lot of side stories. I think the author did a pretty amazing job of giving even some of the more minor characters a pretty in depth character history. I was impressed that even with a LOT of information being given, the story had a really nice smooth flow to it. I find that sometimes when the current story depends SO much on what happened before it started that it can sometimes feel weighted down while informing the reader, but I didn’t feel that way at all with this book.

I absolutely love the cover of this book. It’s beautiful. To a coffee lover, such as myself, this made me want to sit down with a cup of good coffee and read uninterrupted. The colors, the font, and the cup of coffee were beautifully designed on this cover.

I liked watching the real-life struggles between husband and wife, Sawyer and Chelsea. Throw in the children who are affected by their parent’s every decision and this scenario is probably a typical one that many face in these days.

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUND CAFE BY MAX LUCADO #REVIEW

I recently read my first Max Lucado book! I have to tell you I’ve been missing out! This tale centers around the recently seperated Chelsea, who is trying to rebuild her life. She ends up running her mother’s coffee shop and is really struggling. Enter in her guardian angel Manny and things start shaking up.

I loved the way Lucado wrote about spiritual warfare within the context of a contempory fiction/romance novel. It was so unexpected and wonderfully done. I had just myself finished reading in Daniel about this very thing – when the Angel wasn’t able to come to Daniel for 21 days until Michael came to help. I think often times we forget that angels are fighting a spiritual battle that goes unseen by human eyes. This was a reminder of that.

  • A NEW INSPIRING BOOK FROM MAX!

What if you could reach out and ask God just one question and receive a direct answer from Him? That is the miracle that happened at the Higher Grounds Cafe.

Chelsea Chambers, finds herself the owner of the Higher Grounds Cafe after her mother passes away. The cafe is old-fashioned and in dire need of a makeover. Unfortunately, along with the cafe she also inherited the debt her mother left behind.

Realizing she needs help, she hires Manny who proves to me God’s answer to her prayers. She also receives another answer to prayer, the God Blog. But you’ll have to read the book to learn more about that.

I loved this book. It is a short read but packed full of blessings. I highly recommend reading it.

  • MIRACLES HAPPEN EVEN AT THE LOCAL COFFEE SHOP

When I first picked up Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe, I didn’t realize that I wouldn’t be able to put it down.

The plot challenged me to look at my own circumstances through a different light, and to acknowledge that God and his angels are constantly fighting battles for me–most of which I am unaware of–on a daily basis.

After re-reading the last sentence, I need to let you know that this IS a light-hearted read. It just happened to speak to me about some of the issues I am dealing with currently. Several of the characters are down-right hilarious with their “outfits” and quirks throughout the story. I don’t think I’ve smiled so much while reading in quite some time. • WHIMSICAL STORY WITH A SPIRITUAL PUNCH

Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe is a whimsical and cozy novel that nevertheless packs a significant spiritual punch. My reservations about a novel from Max Lucado were quickly put to rest as I settled in for an enjoyable reading experience. Not only is this author’s reputation fully deserved but his versatility is impressive.

Chelsea Chambers was a natural leading character and she had a wonderful supporting cast. I had a doubt or two when I realized one of the characters was an angel but Manny the clumsy, Star Wars loving angel quickly won my heart. I had several good chuckles because of his antics.

  • REVIEW + GIVEAWAY: MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE

An unusual and quite unique book that I greatly enjoyed while reading, but like even more as I reflect back. My reviews are usually based on how a book affects me, and this one hits a home run. A beautiful example of the power of story. Max is a wordsmith. He has an exceptional, God-given ability to communicate spiritual truths by painting pictures through the written word. This is not a long read, but it doesn’t need to be, for Max shares volumes in only 184 pages. It may seem like a predictable, lighthearted fantasy on the surface, but there are untold hidden depths. This is a story that could possibly impact new believers, seekers, and seasoned Christians alike. I hope we see more fiction from Mr. Max. Highly recommended.

  • GIVES YOU AN INSPIRATIONAL LIFT IN YOUR OWN LIFE AND THAT OF WHAT A REAL COMMUNITY SHOULD LOOK LIKE!

This is one of my favorite novels from Max Lucado and hope he plans on extending this into a series. I love the many inspirational ideas that stem from what happens when the entire community is involved including the local pastor. People will soon realize that God is a lot more concerned about the little things going on in their lives than the answer to a bigger prayer they might have in mind. This would make a wonderful Hallmark Channel movie and hope that this is not the last of these novels from Max Lucado. I’d rate this one an unbelievable 5 out of 5 stars and a Reader’s Discussion Questions are included at the conclusion of this novel.

I was so curious when I saw that Max Lucado had come out with a fiction book! I have only known him to write some seriously good books, some of which I read on a daily basis, but they are definitely Non-Fiction!
Anyways, when I saw the book cover, and that it was written by Mr. Lucado, I knew instantly I wanted to read it! I’m very glad I did!! I’ll admit, the beginning made it a tad bit difficult to keep reading… BUT, I’m so glad I didn’t give up because it got soo much better!!
While Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe is fiction, Mr. Lucado did an excellent job of sharing how a very real situation (spiritual warfare) is happening all around us and our prayers are ever so important!! It is such a cute story and one that would benefit all who read it!!

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE, A HEAVENLY NOVEL BY MAX LUCADO, A REVIEW

I have yet to read a Max Lucado book that didn’t draw me in and keep me interested until the very end. Miracle at the Higher Grounds is a light look at the spiritual warfare that we go through in everyday life.

The Higher Grounds Cafe, and with a little help from her guardian angel, Manny, she seems to be doing well… until the spiritual warfare kicks into high gear. While the God Blog brings in tons of new customers who want to ask God a question and get it answered, it also draws the attention of the demons that would see her fail. As Manny, with the help of a bunches of other angels, fight the battle to save Chelsea’s marriage…. she learns a few lessons from her ailing father, her own past and her longtime neighbor and friend, Bo.

Can she get the answers she needs?

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUND CAFE

MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE is a cute story. At first I was disenchanted as Mr. Lucado started the book with major backstory. But once the information dump was over, the story picked up and grabbed my interest.

My son asked me if this was nonfiction, since that is what Mr. Lucado is known for, and I told him no, this is fiction, but it is showing us the very real-spiritual battle that goes on daily in the world that we can’t see or comprehend. I absolutely loved the way Mr. Lucado portrayed this, and even more, I liked the spiritual truths that he shared in the book.

I could say a lot more, but I don’t want to give away any spoilers. But even if you don’t like fantasy or sci fi, give MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE a chance. It may be fiction, but this is not sci fi or fantasy

Max Lucado is one of my favorite non-fiction writers. I own ten of his books. But this is the first work of fiction of his I have read.
This book had a lot of things going for it! Many of my boxes crossed off.

    An unusual twist – check
Takes place in a coffee shop – check!
    Great likeable characters – check
    Quirkiness – check
    Satisfying ending – check

This is a very sweet, but powerful read. And the love story – not what you expect. I found myself loving the unusualness of this plot. It definitely kept me wanting more.

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE BY MAX LUCADO | #BOOKREVIEW

Coffee house cozy and uniquely uplifting are the best way I can describe Max Lucado’s new fiction title Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe. From their seats in heaven, angels have an amazing view of life on earth and of the “light” emanating from holy places and people. One of those places just happens to be San Antonio’s Higher Grounds Cafe. Preparing for it’s grand reopening this Victorian style home turned cafe was established on the principles of hospitality and prayer. The cafe’s new owner, Chelsea Chambers, hopes to start a new life apart from her adulterous husband, former NFL superstar, Sawyer Chambers. What she can’t see is the sinister darkness that threatens to envelope both Chelsea and the cafe. Her dire circumstances require divine intervention.

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUND CAFE BY MAX LUCADO BOOK REVIEW & BLOG TOUR + GIVEAWAY

I was hooked on this book from the very first pages. I felt really connected right away to the story, maybe because it was set in Texas, maybe because my parents were business owners or maybe a little bit of both. I felt like I could have been a patron at the coffee shop sitting there with my cup of coffee watching this story all unfold. I couldn’t put it down. This was a short book and a very quick read.

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE BY MAX LUCADO WITH CANDACE LEE AND ERIC NEWMAN

Lucado and his co-authors have created a light and entertaining novel. Don’t we all wish communicating with God were as easy as logging into a web site? Wouldn’t we like to have a guardian angel who makes lattes and loves Star Wars movies? The novel is great entertainment but I would not take away any theology from it.

  • UPLIFTING STORY

With a mix of coffee, faith, pastry yumminess and a tale of redemption, Max Lucado Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe takes place in the backgrounds of San Antonio where newly separated Chelsea reopens her moms’ coffee shop while trying to make sense of the chaos that had become her life.
The story is very whimsical though at times sometimes, the interplay between Chelsea and Manny, her newly hired employee whose all thumbs and left leg, seemed to come across convoluted during various moments in the story.

  • BOOK REVIEW: MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE BY MAX LUCADO

I wasn’t sure what to expect with the first fiction offering from Max Lucado. One of the reasons I love his non fiction work is his ability to paint such descriptions when sharing a principle. I confess, I found Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe a slow start and I was a bit skeptical about the plot. I was sure as I started it would be a bit cheesy and like most movies with angels in them.

Here’s the thing, the story picks up and becomes a sweet read with characters to root for. The angelic aspect wasn’t cliched and the little “quirks” Max Lucado created Manny with were humorous. The “miracle” was high-tech and creative.

I believe this fiction work is a solid start for an author with an amazing track record. I hope to see more fiction from him.

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE

My Thoughts About The Book: I am a huge Max Lucado fan and have loved every book I have ever read. This book is a little different from the others I have read and I loved it even more. The story is delightful. The characters are awesome and you find yourself falling in love with Chelsea, her staff, her special angel, and her family from the very beginning. This was one of those books you don’t want to put down once you pick it up and you are disappointed once it ends. This is a great book and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a exceptional feel good story about love, forgiveness, and the power of God.

  • INCREDIBLE STORY!

This book may be a fast read, but the story and the trust contained within will stay long after the final page. I loved the ending and what transpires. The words conveyed of Chelsea’s journey thus far and the hope of what was to come as a result of protection, love and reconciliation and God’s angels was touching and relevant.

This book was so incredible that I immediately started telling others of the impact and wonder contained therein. A must read!

  • NEW FROM MAX LUCADO | ‘MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE’ AND IPAD GIVEAWAY

I have been a fan of Max Lucado’s devotionals for years. They always seem to inspire just what I need at the time. I think this new Christian Fiction book is just what society needs right now. I love the premise about a blog where you can ask God questions. I think the interactions with the characters are so endearing, especially with Manny. His enthusiasm for Star Wars was hilarious!

I really thought how the theme of divorce was weaved through the spiritual story was perfect. It wasn’t an in your face preachy type of story. Divorce wasn’t even the main theme but it was addressed in a very delicate way along with forgiveness. These are often hard topics to tackle especially in fiction, but here it was done beautifully.

  • INSPIRATIONAL READ

Although I am a big Max Lucado fan, I was a bit skeptical about his first fictional work. I was afraid it might a bit hokey or heavy handed. I was pleasantly surprised. Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe was a fun and inspirational read. You really cannot help but cheer on the characters.

While this complimentary book was provided for review by LitFuse Publicity Group, no other compensation was given. All remarks are my personal and honest opinions.

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE

WoW, is all I can say. What a phenomenal book. Max should write Fiction more often.

This book knocked my socks off I read it in one sitting. One could only wish there was a coffee shop like this where they live.

I would be at it every day watching what God was doing in every ones lives.

Chelsea is one of the best characters I have meet in a long time.

I could not put this book down it may be small but it is mighty.

I gave this book 5 stars two times. I highly recommend it.

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher for my honest review.

  • WEEKEND BOOK REVIEW: MIRACLE ON HIGHER GROUNDS

I love the concept of asking God for anything and he answers. Lucado does a fantastic job of taking the realities of technology and plugging readers into a world where they understand how to virtually connect with God. Not only does he connect the reader, his main character is an example of the struggles and questions each of us face in our daily walks with Christ. Excellent book, I cannot say enough good things about this book!

  • MIRACLE AT THE HIGHER GROUNDS CAFE

For anyone who wants a spiritual fiction story, light hearted reading with a happy ending, incorporating the best of popular culture: blogs, angels, and coffee- this is the book for you. It would also make a good gift idea placed in a gift basket with a bag of coffee and a mug or with a coffee shop gift card for a good friend.
