{More about Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn}

The Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn series (Guideposts Books) introduces readers to Caroline, Gracie and Sam as they gather for a vacation where they spent the summers as children, and follows their adventures as they fulfill their mother’s dream of opening a bed and breakfast. As the sisters heal from their mother’s passing, they bond in ways they never imagined and discover evidence of God’s hand in the unlikeliest of circumstances.

A team of four authors come together under the pen name of Evangeline Kelley to bring the unique personalities of each sister to vivid life and welcome audiences to the charming and historic island of Nantucket, complete with cobblestone streets, quaint shops, ferries, sandy beaches and salty air.

Seaside Harmony

Three sisters, a charming inn, hints of mystery and romance, and a gorgeous seaside setting. Summer reading at its finest!

When Caroline Marris joins her sisters, Gracie Gold and Sam Carter for a Nantucket Island getaway, she has no idea how it will change her life. The sisters stumble upon Misty Harbor Inn, the place their late mother loved so much, and Caroline talks her sisters into buying the beautiful but dilapidated inn. But can free-spirited Caroline stay focused enough to make opening the inn a reality? Hand-drawn old postcards draw the sisters into the mystery of Hannah Montague, the young widow of the original owner. Can the sisters uncover the fate of this woman who disappeared in 1880? As Caroline and her sisters work together to make their mom’s dream a reality, they bond in ways they never expected.

Sunflower Summer:

Misty Harbor Inn officially opens, and Gracie Gold, the middle Marris sister, wrestles with an overwhelming decision. As the sisters learn the day-to-day workings of running an inn, Gracie counsels its first guests, newlyweds whose honeymoon seems to be ending before it begins. Meanwhile, Sam’s discovery of a clue in a secret room sheds unflattering light on Hannah Montague, who vanished from the house more than one hundred years ago. And as Gracie and Caroline welcome guests to the inn, they are delighted to see how God uses it — and them — to deepen relationships and transform lives.

A Restoration of the Heart

The Misty Harbor Inn series has something for everyone: romance, history, mystery and faith

3/26/2013 | Seattle: What happens when three sisters come together in Nantucket for the first time since their mother’s death? Much more than the Marris sisters could have ever anticipated!

The series weaves together the stories of each of the sisters as they progress through their own unique personal journeys. Along the way, readers will discover the wonder of God’s love in the lives of each of his children.

With each installment, readers are drawn deeper and deeper into a mystery right alongside the characters. When the sisters start investigating the 1880 disappearance of a young woman from the house, they find that their family connection to the Misty Harbor Inn goes back much further than they ever realized. They also uncover something they never knew about their own mother. With elements of history, romance and a dash of suspense, Misty Harbor Inn has something for every reader.

In the first book, releasing this spring, Seaside Harmony (April 2013/ISBN: 978-0-8249-3246-6/$13.99) readers meet the Marris sisters as they arrive in Nantucket for the summer and discover their beloved Misty Harbor Inn is not only shuttered and run-down – it’s for sale. Drawing on their memories of their late mother’s love for the stately old colonial house, Caroline convinces her sisters to pool their resources and shared inheritance to buy the inn and fulfill their mother’s dream of opening a bed and breakfast. Renovations at the Misty Harbor Inn get under way, bringing a number of challenges, but as the sisters restore the inn, the old house becomes a place of grace and transformation, both for the guests and owners. Along with repairing the house, Caroline also has to learn how to work on her relationships since her free-spirited and often unfocused ways have a tendency of hurting those she loves.

Readers won’t have to wait for the second release in the series as it will be available alongside the first. Sunflower Summer (April 2013/ISBN: 978-0-8249-3247-3/$13.99) picks up the story from middle sister Gracie’s perspective. The Misty Harbor Inn is the ideal place for a romantic getaway, and the sisters are always excited to welcome honeymoon couples. However, Gracie is especially distressed when one young couple seems headed for a breakup over breakfast. As she wonders if she should intervene, she asks God to show her the way. Helping the young couple helps Gracie make an important discovery about herself: Her sense of responsibility and unadventurous mindset occasionally make her judgmental and unyielding. However, by helping the couple, she realizes that she does have a role to play at the inn and really is needed there.

This fall, the series will close with Whispers on the Dock (August 2013/ISBN: 978-0-8249-3259-6/$13.99), featuring youngest sister, Sam. When Sam decides to enter her mother’s blackberry cobbler recipe in the Summerfest baking contest, she finds that she has a formidable opponent, a past winner who is not above engaging in dirty tactics to keep her title. Can Sam’s burgeoning faith—and her sisters Caroline and Gracie—help her rise above the fray to reach out to this lonely woman? Sam also realizes something we all could use a reminder of: Being around people who genuinely love God makes her love Him, too.

Between the entertaining sisters, delightful setting and fascinating guests, readers won’t want to leave Misty Harbor Inn.

The authors invite readers to join them for a Facebook chat on May 9 at 8:00 PM EDT. The online event will be hosted on the Litfuse Facebook page.

  • A CHARMING NOVEL TO BEGIN THIS SUMMER’S READING LIST WITH!,

This is a truly restoration story not only as the sisters work on the efforts to restore the Inn to its former glory but also to restore their own broken relationships in new ways. Hands down one of the best summer reads for 2013. I easily rate this series a 5 out of 5 stars and plan on revisiting the sisters over and over again. This series has found a permanent home not only in my personal library, but in my heart as well. I can’t wait for the final novel and then plan on taking a trip back to Nantucket Island once again to fall in love! Now I want to open my own Bed & Breakfast after reading this!

The interactions of the sisters feel real, as do the underlying childhood beliefs and issues that influence those interactions. As I read, I couldn’t help but think of my own sister and imagine what adventures we might undertake in our golden years.

  • “THE POSTCARDS FROM MISTY HARBOR” SERIES

A mother’s dream becomes her children’s goal in the Misty Harbor series. Her dream was to open a bed and breakfast by the shore they all loved. What awaits Caroline, Gracie, and Sam as they embark on their new adventure? Two books compose this series. “Seaside Harmony,” and “Sunflower Summer,” making for some wonderful summer reading.

Sisters have a special bond, and these three are no exception. Ms. Kelley creates scenes and characters that are lifelike and interesting. Watching the sisters gain more confidence in their relationships was one of my favorite things. Come solve the mystery of the postcards.

  • THE BOND OF SISTERHOOD

I always love books that take me back to my East Coast roots so I knew when I saw that Seaside Harmony took place on Nantucket Island that reading this book would feel like going home. It is the first in the Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn series.

Three sisters return to their childhood vacation spot and see that The Misty Harbor Inn that they used to visit is in a state of despair and has been long forgotten. When they decide to purchase the inn and restore it to it’s former glory, have they taken on more then they can handle? Do they even know the first thing about running an inn?

The thing I loved about this story was the dynamics and relationships between Caroline, Sam and Gracie. They are all so unique but bonded together by their sisterhood and the memory of their mother who adored their childhood vacation home.

A mystery unfolds about a woman named Hannah who was married to the original owner of the inn. The sisters are intrigued by her and want to clear her name because of ugly rumors about her that they refuse to believe. We have to wait until the next book to see where this goes.

I didn’t know until I finished reading that Evangeline Kelley was a pen name for four authors. I was really surprised because if I had known that up front, I would have expected more of a disjointed story but I had absolutely no idea this wasn’t written by one person until the end.

I could feel the sun on my face and the wind in my hair and felt like I was right there on Nantucket island. Seaside Harmony was a bit like a vacation to read. I’m looking forward to find out what happens next in Sunflower Summer.

  • SWEET AND NOSTALGIC NANTUCKET SERIES

After reading the first two books in the Postcards From Misty Harbor Inn series, I can truthfully say that the series would be perfect to read during summer vacation or a long, lazy weekend. These novels invite the reader to join three sisters on Nantucket Island, the location of many happy childhood memories of family vacations there. When they discover that the Misty Harbor Inn is empty and has been allowed to deteriorate, Caroline encourages Gracie and Sam to join her in buying the property in order to open a bed and breakfast. Thus begins the adventure as each sister wrestles with the possibilities and then the process to make the inn their own. Not only was Misty Harbor Inn a dream of their late mother’s but it is the subject of many local legends and mysteries which include a missing widow and the possibility of secret rooms. Intrigued by its mysterious history, the three sisters are determined to discover everything they can about the former residents and what actually happened to them.

  • FUN SERIES TO READ!

I loved watching these sisters grow together as friends and sisters, remember their Mom by buying and restoring the Misty Harbor Inn, and go on a adventure together solving the mystery of the disappearance of Hannah Montague.

This series is also really unique because it is written by four separate authors under one pen name. It was so fun to see what four authors can come up with in a story!

  • POSTCARDS FROM MISTY HARBOR INN SERIES BY EVANGELINE KELLEY REVIEW

I loved reading the interactions between these three very different sisters, and seeing how they begin to grow closer together as they work on the inn. This first book in the series, follows most closely the thoughts and happenings of Caroline the oldest sister, a free-spirited travel writer, and I absolutely love her joy and love of life. In the second book we get to see a glimpse into the second sister, Gracie’s thoughts and life, so I can only assume that in the third book we’ll be learning more of younger sister. I really like the concept behind this book. The mystery and romance surrounding the legend of Hannah Montague really made this story stand out for me, and I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series to find out what happens to the sisters, and what happened to Han

  • A DELIGHTFUL READ FOR A LAZY SUMMER AFTERNOON!

Sunflower Summer and Seaside Harmony, both novels part of the ‘Postcards from Misty Harbor series’, are drawn against the alluring scenery of quintessential Nantucket island. There we meet three sisters who purchase a dilapidated Victorian home with visions of restoring it to its original glory. The historical inn named the Misty Harbor Inn, soon opens its doors to guests as a B & B, a long time dream of their Mum now deceased.
Childhood memories emerge, hopes and dreams identifieds whilst the three sisters plunge into the renovation of the old place with all their heart.

In their sixties, Caroline, Gracie and Sam bring each their own brand of talents to this endearing work of love and it is interesting to discover the three sisters individual personas as well as their perception of each other as they slowly bond again.

I love the homey feeling of the Inn, and would love to visit a place like this. I hope there are more books coming in this series in the future.

  • POSTCARDS FROM MISTY HARBOR INN SERIES

This is a heartwarming story about 3 sisters who loved their Mother and went on a vacation to Nantucket and came across the Misty Harbor Inn that they knew their Mother had loved very much. Of course, it was Caroline who saw the beauty in the place and it took some time to convince her other 2 sisters into helping her restore the inn to it’s former glory.

The only thing I don’t understand about this story is how a woman could be best friends with a man, who’s name is George and he’s always there for Caroline and she does love him but as a dear close friend. George however, wants to marry her and of course Caroline, being dumb, says no. What I don’t get is this: Why would you be best friends with a good man for 30 years and never address the matter?

  • SUCH AN ENJOYABLE READ!

These books are reminiscent of Maeve Binchy. I adored them. Reading about the three sisters and their adult relationship with one another is a beauty to behold. The authors do a great job of developing the individual personalities of the sisters and their strengths and weaknesses making the story more believable.

When I first started to read the first book in this series I was totally in love with it. Who would not want to think about buying an old house on the beach and fixing it up. This series is the result of 4 authors working together to write these books. I want to read more about these wonderful women and their new path in life.

  • THE MISTY HARBOR INN SERIES

I loved that this book brought three sisters together and they developed a great bond.

I also loved how they decided to open up the Misty Harbor Inn and refurbished the place because of how much their mother loved the old place and the great memories it held.

Plus, the mystery! You couldn’t help but want to rush the process of trying to find out the truth.

    I thoroughly enjoyed both books.

  • ENOYED MY STY AT MISTY HARBOR INN

The Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn Series follows the 3 Marris Sisters. It made me giggle a bit as I am the middle of 3 sisters. Some of the characteristics relating to the birth order of each sister sounded very familiar! LOL I am the sensible (ok that could be debated) organized middle sister. My older sister has always been very adventurous, and I am always reining her in, and she is making me loosen up.

  • SWEET, DELIGHTFUL BOOKS!

    Seaside Harmony

I really loved how the author(s) showed these three, middle aged sisters, who are so different, using their individual talents to bring something about. I also liked how they were so close, despite their differences.

    Sunflower Summer

The second book in the series was just as great! I loved the fact that I didn’t have to wait to read the next book after loving the first one so much! lol I really liked seeing the sisters relationship deepen and getting to know each of them better.

  • SEASIDE HARMONY & SUNFLOWER SUMMER

These books were so engaging that I couldn’t put them down! Both books flow seamlessly together, carrying you on a journey with Caroline, Gracie, and Sam. Not only do you get wrapped in the intrigue of the history of the prior residents of the inn, but you also get enraptured with the interesting characters that come into contact with the 3 sisters from private companions to others on the island, as well as inhabitants that come to stay at the inn.

I love that each book sets its main storytelling focus from different characters; starting with Caroline in Seaside Harmony, then Gracie in Sunflower Summer.

  • SEASIDE HARMONY & SUNFLOWER SUMMER

I loved the family feel of this novel. Each sister has their own unique personality giving this story a very realistic feel. Because the sisters are older I found myself easily relating to them. I could easily understand Gracie’s reluctance at wanting to leave her home, but she also needed to reestablish a relationship with her sisters. In addition to the family drama going on they are renovating the inn and if that isn’t enough there is an air of mystery about a former owner. “Seaside Harmony” is the first book in the Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn series and is the perfect way to escape for a few hours. I have always been a fan of Guideposts series and this one promises not to disappoint With elements of faith interwoven with family drama, a hint of mystery along with a splash of romance, I really look forward to my next visit to the Misty Harbor Inn.

  • REVIEW – POSTCARDS FROM MISTY HARBOR INN SERIES

    Seaside Harmony

There is a lot mystery hidden in the Misty Harbor Inn as the sister try to uncover what happened to Hannah Montague, while at the same time they try to remodel the old Inn. Book one in the series is a delight to read and I recommend it to everyone.

    Sunflower Summer

The talented team of writers writing under the pen name Evangeline Kelly has once again written a solid novel full of drama and mystery. Typically, I would never read a book centered on women in their sixties, but the characters are so realistically written that I couldn’t stop enjoying these characters. I do hope the authors will continue the series as I would love to visit Misty Harbor Inn again.

  • REVIEW: SEASIDE HARMONY AND SUNFLOWER SUMMER

When we were in the midst of icy winter and up to our ears in homeschooling, I was offered Seaside Harmony and Sunflower Summer to review. The beautiful covers made these books irresistible, and the stories truly reflect the covers—beautiful, welcoming, and full of God’s goodness.

I love the characters and can identify with them because they, unlike most fiction heroines, are middle-aged. There’s no youthful angst or silliness, just a story about sisters embarking on an ambitious project together with some trepidation and a good deal of courage.

    Seaside Harmony
So busy in each of their lives, three sisters come to Nantucket for two weeks where they vacationed as children. Misty Harbor has changed since their mother brought them for an afternoon tea. Now unoccupied with the gardens overgrown … and a For Sale sign!
Attempting to peek through windows, they are startled by a neighbor watching for trespassers. This will be an unforgettable summer!

    Sunflower Summer
The sisters begin their first season, after a year of polishing, refinishing and refurbishing their bed and breakfast. With ocean breezes and the scent of spring flowers, they are ready as they await the arrival of their first guests, a honeymoon couple.
Beyond sharing their bluff home with guests, their lives become interwoven and blended with each of their giftings.

  • SEASIDE HARMONY BY EVANGELINE KELLEY

What a fun novel to read. I loved reading about the relational dynamics of the three sisters as they are together again after so long. The writing team did a great job of developing the characters. Being one of four sisters, I know the bickering in the novel is right on, as is the peacemaking efforts of Sam. With just a hint of romance and mystery, I want to read the next in the series.

  • As an entrepreneur, I was very interested in their running the inn. Aside from the business running aspects of the book, the story of the history of the inn and it’s missing woman are captivating — and not yet solved, so I’m interested to read more. The sisters are all very dynamic, different and interact well together, making me interested in their lives and struggles.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good book with mystery, good characters, and/or interest in business.

  • Beach lovers, beware! Reading this book causes high spikes in your desire to be at the beach. I could almost smell the salt air while reading, and the description of the lobster served at the clambake made me hungry. For everyone who has ever entertained the fantasy of owning a cute little B&B, this is the perfect escape, and the mystery lovers will enjoy the mystery of the missing Hannah Montague. Also, if you’re sick of reading about sweet young 20-somethings, this is the antidote. The sisters are refreshingly mature. In other words, the youngest is in her 50s. When you consider how many readers of Christian fiction are mature women, you have to wonder why someone didn’t think of this before.

Great novel; clean mystery; soft Christian theme.

  • I felt like I was on a dream vacation while reading these books. This series has everything I love! If I were a writer, this is the kind of story I would love to tell. Sisters, secrets, a stunning bed and breakfast and even a bit of romance. Delightful! I can’t wait for the next book to be released this summer!

  • I agreed to review these two titles with LitFuse almost purely because of the beautiful cover art.

I immediately knew that I wanted to hold these paperbacks in my hands while I read them – and then I wanted to pass them along to my mommy. :D

The way the books are written was compelling, as well. The author, Evangeline Kelley, is actually the pen name of four authors – Patty Berg, Pam Hanson, Barbara Andrews, & Camy Tang – who come together to write this series from the perspective of the main characters, the Marris sisters.

The novels are set in Nantucket. I’ve never been or even thought about Nantucket, but it’s on my short list of places to see now! The setting is charming and whimsical and full of lovely imagery!

  • As I was reading these books, I felt like I was one of the Sisters, and loved their adventures, a bit of bickering, and lots of laughs, and family friendship.
I could almost smell the ocean, and wanted them to buy the inn, and find out the answers to some of the questions and mysteries they stumble upon. Once you started reading you won’t want to put it down. I am so glad that there is another book in this series.

  • Seaside Harmony and Sunflower Summer were great easy reads. Perfect books to take to the beach, pool or on vacation. I loved the easy flow and the beautiful scenery that came alive in my head. There is also a little bit of mystery to the story that flows into Sunflower Summer.

  • My Thoughts on the Series: I loved both books. I read Seaside Harmony first and fell in love with the sisters. Their personalities were so diverse. Their dream to run a B & B in Nantucket to fulfill their mom’s dream really touched a nerve. Once they come together and actually open the Misty Harbor Inn the historical mystery catches the reader and leaves them longing for more. I could not put the books down once I started the first one. This is a wonderful series and I am so glad I chose them to review.

  • First I would like to comment about the very beautiful covers on both these books I loved them! The books themselves were both very enjoyable writting wise and plot wise. They were charming and enjoyable books to read, you know like books that give you that warm and fuzy feeling inside.

  • Reading these first two books made me realize that you’re never too old to make a dream come true . They also made me remember that I shouldn’t take my friends and family for granted because I never know when I will see them for the last time. I also enjoyed learning more of the Nantucket history and meeting the quirky characters that came for visits. Each sister has different talents and were able to use them for the good of the inn and their customers and friends. It makes me nostalgic for the vacations that I’ve taken at the beach or even a bed and breakfast because I love to travel and learn about new places.

  • Ms. Kelley’s writing style is very descriptive and I could almost imagine my toes sinking into that sun-warmed sand and the sound of waves crashing down the beach. The tightness of your nose as it gets slightly burned from a happy afternoon spent at the beach and sticky salt spray sticking to your skin as you trudge home sun sated and happy.

If you can make someone imagine they are in the setting you describe then I call that a success!

  • I have to say that it was so enjoyable to be introduced to three sisters who worked together to fulfill a dream their mother had. Granny M and I both devoured The Postcards from Misty Harbor Inn series. What I found really amazing is that they are written by four different women under one pen name.

Seaside Harmony and Sunflower Summer let’s us get to know the sisters and their background. I loved seeing how the story line would unfold like the petals of a flower. Blooming a little more each day til you find you have a bouquet right in front of you.

  • As with the first book, this book continues the struggles of learning how to get along in close proximity to family 24/7 after not living together for 45 years. I enjoyed the element of mystery with the postcards and disappearance of Hannah. I also liked the description of the decorating details in each of the rooms and the meals prepared. This is a relaxing read that you will enjoy. The antics of Caroline’s dog, Max, also add some lighthearted moments to the story. I really like their crusty neighbor, Shirley Addison, too! She tells it like it is and pulls no punches. All-in-all this tale is a delightful way to spend a day in historic Nantucket.

  • Seaside Harmony: I really enjoyed the storyline’s intertwining theme of restoration: from the three sisters learning to reestablish their family bond and relationships, to making their mother’s dream a reality in restoring the inn, this is a heartwarming story that readers can relate to. An added bonus of including an intriguing mystery and a touch of romance keeps the reader engaged and wanting to continue to follow Caroline, Gracie and Sam’s adventures in the remaining books in the series.

Sunflower Summer: The authors once again engages the reader to follow along as the three sisters’ relationships continues to evolve and change along with the intriguing twists that unfolds from the mystery that is interwoven into the story. Sometimes it is hard for a sequel to maintain the enchantment from the first book in a series, but this is not the case in this book, as the authors seamlessly transports their readers back into the continuation of the story of these enchanting middle aged sisters set on the idyllic island of Nantucket. The reader can’t help but get caught up in the lives of Caroline, Gracie and Sam as they learn to run a successful business together, while working out family issues and matters of the heart, along with the ongoing investigation into a century old mystery.

  • We read five words on the first page of a really good novel and we begin to forget that we are reading printed words on a page; we begin to see images. ~ John Gardner This quote pretty much sums up how I feel about Seaside Harmony. From the very start I was drawn in and in no time I felt as though I was reading about real people in a real place. The writing was so descriptive that I could almost feel the salt air off of the ocean and smell the food that Sam was always whipping up in the kitchen.

  • If you’re looking for a few great books to read this summer, add Seaside Harmony and Sunflower Summer to your reading list!

These books tell the story of three sisters who reunite on Nantucket after their mother’s death. They soon stumble across the mysterious Misty Harbor Inn – a place associated with secret rooms, missing persons, and unsolved crimes!

One sister wants to buy – the others do not. Will long-standing tensions and conflicts between the sisters erupt over time, or will they find a way to work out their differences and draw closer together?

What I enjoyed most about these two books were the engaging, true-to-life characters you’ll meet throughout the book, the interplay between them, and the mystery surrounding the Misty Harbor Inn. These books are perfect summer reading!

  • I admit that it took me a little bit to get into the first book. I’m not totally sure why, though I think it may have to do with all the main characters being older, and therefore, simply not as relatable in terms of life stages. I enjoyed it more after the purchase of the inn, watching as they restore it to it’s former glory, and work out their relationships with each other at the same time.

In Sunflower Summer I thoroughly enjoyed the additional characters of the guests of the inn. They added a lot of interest to the storyline without taking away from the main characters at all.

  • I enjoyed the descriptions of Nantucket, it sounds like a nice place to visit. The women are strong and the other residents of Nantucket are pleasant. In SEASIDE HARMONY the saga continues as the sisters open the Inn. A young couple on their honeymoon are guests and are having trouble in their marriage already. Grace does a good job of counseling them. There’s more on the missing woman from the first book.

I thought this was a sweet novel, a fun read, if you like cozy mysteries you’ll like this series.

  • Normally, I wouldn’t pick up these books to read – it isn’t because they aren’t good but because I really don’t have much in common with the main characters. They are all middle aged ladies, one was a world traveling career woman who never married or had children, one is a divorcee with adult children and the other is a widow with adult children. That being said – one should never, ever judge a book by it’s cover, or in this case cover description. I am now in a waiting process as I can’t wait for more books come out based on the Marris’ sisters endeavors to run an Inn all the while drawn into the mystery of a past owner and her mysterious disappearance makes this more than just your average inspirational book.

  • It is refreshing to read a book that breaks free from the stereotypical young, beautiful heroine whose life’s mission is to snag a husband. In Sunflower Summer, social norms are challenged with the introduction of three vibrant, entertaining middle aged sisters who celebrate the grand opening of their new inn. Sunflower Summer by Evangeline Kelly is the second book of the newly created fiction series, Postcards From Misty Harbor Inn. Finally an entertaining, yet wholesome work of fiction in the Christian genre that is NOT Amish and NOT a romance novel. Each sister has her own personal battles and challenges to face while at the same time contributing to making the grand opening of the Inn a success. The guests at the Inn are just as intriguing and varied as the old inn & life itself.
