No Safe Harbor is a great historical romance and perfect for fans of the genre who enjoy suspense as well. The main story line is of a naive Irish lass who goes to New York and lands herself right in the middle of Irish political fanatics. Turns out the brother she is looking for is one of them.. and his arch enemy just happens to be the main protagonist’s love interest. Perhaps it sounds predictable, but it certainly was an enjoyable story that I recommend, and I can’t wait for the second installment in the series!

I loved this book. Once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down. I loved the writing and I loved everything about the characters! This is a must read!!!!!
Elizabeth’s use of metaphors makes for vivid, picturesque descriptions that fit the scenarios to a ‘T.’ The Irish brogue adds to the realistic storyline, as well as the in-depth descriptions and inner thoughts of the characters. Without the luxury of electricity, walking at night was dangerous, even deadly. Add the explosive intermingling of the women at the boardinghouse at times, especially between Cara and Deidre, and the story is ripe for suspense and intrigue. We aren’t privy to the reason until clos

I can’t resist a man who says, “Upon my oath.” If you are nodding your head right now, you NEED to read No Safe Harbor. It’s full of suspense and mystery with a twist of romance. Perfect recipe for a good read!
From the start of the book, we meet Cara, and we fall in love with her, and her innocence. Although at some points I wanted to shake her and tell her to stop being so niave! Elizabeth Ludwig, the author, takes painstaking efforts to really build up the characters, and create Cara’s world. It really helps us to realize how Cara is feeling and empathize with her.
This is one of those books that I requested to review and when it came, I had doubts about it. However, those doubts were unfounded. I enjoyed the book, a lot. The book is suspense, which is right up my alley, but it is different from most suspense books I read because of the time period. It is set in the late 1800′s, just a few years short of 1900, so there was no modern police and detective work, but I still liked the book.

I found myself swept into the story. The mysteries regarding Cara’s brother and Rourke’s father kept me guessing, and I couldn’t wait to figure out who was really calling the shots. I also enjoyed the romance between Cara and Rourke, as well as the relationships Cara built with the others in her boardinghouse. No Safe Harbor is well written, engaging, and full of intrigue.

I am a huge fan of the suspense genre, but honestly I did not know the genre existed within the Inspirational market. No Safe Harbor was an easy read, that took me just a few days time to get through. This was definitely a page turner. I was unsure of Rourke the whole novel, was he going to disappoint Cara in the end? Or would things turn out the way she hoped since she had fallen hard for him? It was a fun ride to see what happened all along the way as we meet other characters and find out not everyone is who they seem.

No Safe Harbor kept me on my toes wondering what was going to happen next. I really found it interesting to see what new York was like in 1897 and the trials a woman traveling alone has to go through. The descriptions were so vivid that i felt as if I was really there. It makes me really appreciate the times we live in now for the most part. One way times were better is that more people had stronger faith and trusted in God. This book really taught me that sometimes what you are seeking with all your might isn’t always what you need or really want and that you have to trust in God for the right path. Divided between family and love and needing to decide which is the right path would be a hard situation to be in. I fell in love with Cara and Rourke and their chemistry and faith.
No Safe Harbor is a historical romance with a large dose of suspense. In fact, although the romantic aspect is excellent, the suspense is a prominent component of the story. A major theme of the novel is vengeance and the negative affect it has on all involved when they don’t turn it over to the Lord.
No Safe Harbor is definitely a page turner with several breathtaking scenes. I didn’t want to put it down until I reached the end. Definitely a MUST READ in my opinion.

I was drawn into Cara’s story from the very first chapter. I fell in love with her character and was eager to unravel the mystery of her brother’s disappearance with her. Concerned for her safety, as well as her heart (which might be trusting the wrong man), I eagerly kept reading. Once I reached the middle of the book, I was completely trapped. I couldn’t put the book down until I’d finished the book … around 1 am. The book had several plot twists that kept me guessing and the final chapters were very intense. I loved the ending! It gave a satisfying conclusion to the mystery and the romance, with just enough intrigue remaining to keep me looking forward to future books in the series.

Ludwig does a wonderful job, particularly towards the end of the book, of keeping the tension high and the pages turning.
Elizabeth has woven a tale full of twists and turns that keep you turning pages, and just when you think you can trust Rourke she has you think again. Cara is someone you fall in love with. Her innocence and determination are endearing, at the same time they become frustrating. I found myself wanting to shake some sense into her for fear something would happen to her.

Cara has a tough beginning in her new adventure because he didn’t know anyone, and her brother had told her not to trust anyway. I enjoyed Cara’s character; she was sweet and vulnerable, not like most of those in the boarding house she was staying in. And she did a wonderful job taming Rourke! He just seemed to melt at her very appearance. The vivid description of New York in the 1890’s was very interesting and it was nice to see NY in another era.
No Safe Harbor is a historical story with a little suspense and a neat little romance to go with it.

I fell in love with Cara from the get-go. She is one of those characters that is full of vulnerability yet tough and independent. She was able to set out on a journey to a new country in search of a brother she thought dead.
Rourke is one of the characters that is devoted to seeking revenge but you still can’t help but root for him. He has an idea of who Cara is yet he still wants to care for her and wish her identity away. I really liked Rourke in this story and found myself hoping for him and Cara to be together. Hoping for him to be wrong about her brother and hoping that things would work out for them all.
No Safe Harbor is another one of those stories that..
What I loved about this story is that it has everything, there is definite mystery involved as Cara begins her search for her brother, meets Rourke Walsh and is he someone she can trust or someone that she should run away from? She takes the plunge not realizing he may have ulterior motives. There is a blooming romance but is she really safe with him? This book had you guessing who were the good, the bad and the ugly, seriously. I kept on second-guessing myself, that Rourke was trustworthy and then decided nope he wasn’t. It was a bit of a conundrum.
Elizabeth Ludwig has created an interesting first novel in her series Edge of Freedom with No Safe Harbor. The chapters are not lengthy and the style is easy to read. The novel is in the genre of fictional historical romantic suspense, and it is set in 1897 in New York City.

“No Safe Harbor” is a very exciting book. One that will keep you flipping pages trying to find out what will happen next just as fast as you can read and flip. “No Safe Harbor” will keep you asking questions…
This book has the flavor of an old fashioned mystery- a heroine with a hero she doesn’t know if she can really trust and characters with unexpected affiliations. The Irish revolutionaries add an element of uncertainty and fear to the story along with an interesting historical perspective.

The historical aspect of Irish/American relations at the turn of the century was fascinating … I did enjoy the story and I do look forward to the rest of the Edge of Freedom series.
A great historical suspense with plenty of twists and turns keeping you turning the pages.
No Safe Harbor is a wonderful book set in the late 1800’s in New York City. This is a story full of mystery, intrigue and attempted murder. I loved the setting and the characters and how they intertwined throughout the story! There were several twists and turns and unexpected events that kept me reading till the end! The descriptions in the book were very descriptive and the characters were quite believable. It was difficult trying to figure out what was going to happen as the story continued. I really enjoyed reading it!
Historical prose is a tricky business. There’s a fine line between “accurate” and downright boring. Sometimes historical novels do bore me because of their “dry,” overly-detailed capacities but with this novel, I was thoroughly enchanted.

Elizabeth Ludwig begins the “Edge of Freedom Series” with a suspenseful adventure in the pages of “No Safe Harbor.” An intricate web of revenge and lies captures and holds the reader until the end. Action is interspersed throughout the novel, but really picks up near the end.
This story has all that I like in a book. It has intrigue, romance, and most importantly reconciliation with God. The author uses Cara’s kindness and vulnerability to protect her from the bitterness Rourke has felt since his father’s murder. I feel as if this is the most critical part of the story.
God will heal his children if only they believe and trust in his will. There is a Way. God has a plan!
I highly recommend this book.

Loved this historical fiction novel with all of the Irish names and dialogue! Just enough history to keep the story flowing, but much more focus on the characters and the search for Cara’s brother Eoghan, by more people than Cara even realizes. Mystery, intrigue, keeps you guessing who is on the up and up and who needs to be watched.

Elizabeth Ludwig gripped me from page one, with enough suspense, romance, and accurate history of the 1890′s and the plight of the Irish so that I couldn’t quit reading.

Cara, Rourke, Amelia and other characters were well developed and easy to get to know. My absolute favorite aspect of the book, though, was that of Cara’s Irish heritage. I loved hearing the references to her homeland, to searches through Ellis Island to trace immigrants, and the brogue fairly jumped off the page and into my ears. My great-grandmother once traced my ancestors back to Ireland in 1632, and I’ve always wondered what their journey – earlier though it was – must have been like.
From the first few pages, I was instantly intrigued. I loved the details the author included about Cara’s arrival to Ellis Island, the process for admittance to the United States, and all of the emotion that evoked.
I thought No Safe Harbor was an interesting combination of historical, romance, and suspense–all three aspects were done so well! I anticipate that the next book in the series will be just as good and look forward to reading it next year!

I absolutely adored this book! Cara is sweet, homely, and strong. She tries her best to find the brother she thought dead and I cared about her character. The actions she made were sometimes confusing, but in the end I rooted for her. I fell in love with Rourke. He had a hard past, but that doesn’t stop the compassion that shows when he’s with Cara. Sometimes the plot moved at a slow pace and I had to skim, but other characters kept me intrigued. I wanted to know more and see how everything ended. The mystery aspect captivated me, not knowing the actions characters will make and the plot falling into place was my favorite part. I could see what the ending was before I got there, but it still had me guessing.
