Real Women: Leading with Proverbs 31 Values is a must-have leadership resource for today’s Christian woman. Women will be encouraged to develop their God-given gifts and talents in the marketplace as they live out the principles that invite others to embrace the equality-inspiring values they live by. Press Release

Becoming the leader God aspires for you to be

John C. Maxwell leadership coaches offer ten biblical principles for leading in today’s marketplace

1/21/2014 || Seattle: The majority of Christian women are familiar with the example of the godly woman described in Proverbs 31. Her characteristics are most frequently associated with a woman’s place within the home; however, in their book Real Women Leading: With Proverbs 31 Values (New Hope® Publishers/February 3, 2014/978-1-59669-396-8/$14.99), business executives Lisa Troyer and Dawn Yoder assert the qualities of the woman described apply to leaders in the workplace as well. “Whether we are homeschooling children — which truly is a full-time vocation — or leading the board of directors meeting at a Fortune 500 corporation, the Proverbs 31 woman has something to teach all of us.”

Although today’s marketplace is not always a “values-friendly” environment, Troyer and Yoder, who have found their calling in the business world, show how a woman can live and thrive in a “valueless” workplace when living by biblical values and principles. Real Women Leading is a must-have leadership resource for today’s Christian woman to cultivate biblical truth, credible relationship development and practical application into everyday life.  They do so through outlining 10 foundational principles: Understanding people, forgiveness, responsibility, attitude, generosity, resolving conflict, restraint, honesty, planning, and influence.

Women will be encouraged to develop their God-given gifts and talents in the marketplace as they live out the principles that invite others to embrace the equality-inspiring values they live by. Knowing her generation is not the end user of the gospel message, the Proverbs 31 leader will find the initiative to inspire the upcoming generation to view womanhood as a gift and continue the learning process that will impact generations to come.

“Often thought of as the ‘most intimidating woman in Christendom,’ perhaps the Proverbs 31 woman — this skillful, conscientious, creative, entrepreneurial, merciful leader — has been saddled with a false persona of perfectionism and unattainable achievement,” writes Troyer. “The Proverbs 31 Woman is one whose success is predicated on living a life based on values — whether she’s dealing with domestic issues, marketplace opportunities or relationships. Truth is truth no matter what environment we operate/live in.”

“Maybe my attitude came from being raised in a family business and having an achiever mentality, but I didn’t have a domestic quality and growing up. I could not see any way that I could possibly be like the woman in Proverbs 31,” Yoder explains. “Now I see the picture of a woman who is honest, trustworthy and generous. A good steward, she has fun and makes fun, is a good planner and maintains a good attitude. She understands people, prepares for the future, shows restraint and likes to put together a nice outfit. Looking at her this way, she is no longer someone I am afraid I could never be. She is now someone I want to be! The Proverbs 31 woman finds success everywhere she turns because she lives by God’s principles.”

The foreword of Real Women Leading was written by leadership expert and New York Times best-selling author John Maxell. Each chapter gives an example of a biblical woman as an illustration of the principle being presented and concludes with a section called “The IT (Igniting Transformation)Factor,” designed to prompt thought, conversation and action concerning the value focused on within that chapter.

Their practical ‘Steps to Follow’ in each chapter guide women into rich relationships and positions of influence that value their God-given strengths and further God’s kingdom. Suggested Interview Questions

— To what areas of a woman’s life does your book apply — work, church, ministry, home?

— Most likely, all of our listeners are familiar with the Proverbs 31 woman, but for those who may not be, who is this woman, and why should women strive to be like her?

— Many women aspire to be like the Proverbs 31 woman but feel that achieving every one of her characteristics is a daunting challenge, if not an impossible goal. What encouragement do you have for women aspiring to be like her?

— Most associate the Proverbs 31 woman as a godly wife who tends to her home, but you write about her entrepreneurial spirit. What have we been missing when reading this passage from scripture?

— How did you narrow down and choose the 10 key principles that are outlined in the book? Of the 10, which do you find the most challenging personally?

–The common perception of a leader is a person in a position of power or authority, whether in the workplace or church. Do you have to hold a title to be a leader, or as Christians do we have the responsibility to be leading by example constantly?

— How does a woman lead differently than a man?

— As you coach other women on the value of leading others based on biblical principles, is it difficult to “convince” some of your audience that there are practical ways to implement scriptural wisdom?

— You open the book in chapter one by outlining the value of understanding people. In a culture where face-to-face communication is fading due to the rise in social media, do you believe all other values stem from this principle?

— What is the “IT Factor” you refer to at the end of each chapter?

— Can you tell us about your involvement with the Circle of Friends organization?

— If readers only walk away with one thing from Real Women Leading, what do you hope that will be?

Lisa Troyer and Dawn Yoder are available for interviews to promote the release of Real Women Leading: With Proverbs 31 Values. To request a review copy, schedule an interview or for more information, please contact Audra Jennings, audra@litfusegroup.com.

  • BOOK REVIEW: REAL WOMEN LEADING WITH PROVERBS 31 VALUES

I’ve pretty much highlighted and dog earred most of my copy of Real Women Leader with Proverbs 31 Values by Lisa Troyer and Dawn Yoder. I am always on the look out for books that are geared for women in leadership, specifically with a Biblical worldview, which to be quite honest there aren’t as many of these books as you might think.

Real Women Leading is packed with 10 chapters on values that are tied in with women from the Bible, which is a great new way to look at these values for women today.

“Real Women Leading with Proverbs 31 Values” by Lisa Troyer and Dawn Yoder is a wonderful non-fiction read that has the potential to help the reader develop godly and desirable traits. Each of the ten chapters showcase an equal number of Proverbs 31 values as highlighted through the lives of women in Scripture: understanding people, forgiveness, responsibility, attitude, conflict resolution, restraint, honesty planning, generosity, influence.

  • REAL WOMEN LEADING REVIEW

I was very excited to read the book “Real Women Leading with Proverbs 31 Values” by Lisa Troyer and Dawn Yoder. A few years ago I was introduced to someone on the Proverbs 31 team, but I had no clue what that was. Since that time, I have come in contact with many of the wonderful ladies on the Proverbs 31 team. I think it is a ministry that is vital to our society today and modern women.

This book went through each of the values outlined in Proverbs 31. Many of us have probably read that chapter many times in our lives, or heard women talk about it at conferences. It’s nice to break down each quality though, such as forgiveness, responsibility, and attitude. Each quality is also matched to a woman in the Bible. I highly recommend this book. It will challenge you.

  • REAL WOMEN LEADING WITH PROVERBS 31 VALUES

I loved the way the writers did not just explain Proverbs 31 to their readers, they gave a multitude of examples and made it clear to their audience that they truly live this life. I feel much more prepared to face things in my own life with the aid of this book. As a pastor in a small rural church I feel that this book is a great resource to have in my library. This is a resource that can be used over and over in my own ministry. I highly recommend purchasing this book.

Through the examples of notable biblical women, including the woman at the well, Martha, Ruth, Mary of Bethany, and Esther, as well as those barely mentioned, Troyer and Yoder demonstrate the skills of leadership we all must possess in order to lead wisely and well.

If you lead women in Bible Study, ministry or in your career, this is a must-have book to read and keep in your library for future reference.

Some of the things I liked about the book was speaking with purpose. Meeting someone at their needs to get to know them better. Something simple as a glass of water can strike up a conversation. Learning how to talk to people, the right way, without offending them all the time. Developing empathy (something I definitely need to do in ALL situations).

  • REAL WOMEN LEADING BY LISA TROYER AND DAWN YODER

You typically hear of the Proverbs 31 woman when talking about a wife/housewife. I enjoy that because that’s what I am. However, I am also a part-time working mom who runs my own business. I absolutely loved this perspective on the Proverbs 31 woman in the working world. I think these 10 values not only work in the working world, but also when you’re doing ministry of any sort.

I am always interested in reading about the Proverbs 31 woman, so this book really appealed to me. It’s about leading with the values of the Proverbs 31 woman. I think any woman would find this book helpful and interesting.

  • REAL WOMEN LEADING

Sometimes I really don’t like the Proverbs 31 woman. How can I live up to those standards? You know I’m not going to be weaving and dying cloth or going out to the fields. Besides which, I’d be hard pressed to find a field around here.

By the time I finished this book, Dawn and Lisa had me convinced that we all can be Proverbs 31 women. It all boils down to values. With these Proverbs 31 values a woman can integrate her faith into her life regardless of whether she is in the work place, at home or out in her community.

So now, I don’t have to be irritated by the Proverbs 31 woman. I can be that woman.

  • WE NEED MORE WOMEN LIKE THIS TODAY! REAL WOMEN: LEADING WITH PROVERBS 31 VALUES BY LISA TROYER & DAWN YODER

Lisa Troyer and Dawn Yoder understand the core values of the ”Proverbs 31″ woman better than just about anyone else in ministry I know. And BRAVO to them both for having the courage to step out in faith and presenting this book to a world that does not openly welcome this particular subject.

So often today, you hear the word “submissive” said with disgust or derision and that’s just not how it was meant to be.

And so often today, you hear people talking about the “Proverbs 31″ woman being out-of-date or totally unrealistic for “today’s woman” and that just isn’t the way it’s supposed to be either.

Lisa Troyer and Dawn Yoder understand that. They understand the Proverbs 31 woman and who she is supposed to be. They also relate many wonderful tips and guides and suggestions for how “today’s woman” can find a way to implement God’s character and values in their own lives.

  • REAL WOMEN LEADING

After the first few babies arrived, I never expected to do much outside of our home. I had no idea I would be spinning wool or creating things to keep my family warm, or use those things in a marketplace setting.
I feel like I am gathering things from afar. This year as my husband decreased his pay in order to keep the ministry afloat, I generated income almost matching what his pay cut equaled. Not bad for someone who doesn’t have a “real job”. But it has been a great struggle to find balance. Homeschooling high school students, packing lunches and sending elementary students off in the mornings, and business trips, not to mention all the “mission trips” this year, has left me feeling stretched thin.
I was able to find good advice in this book.

  • REAL WOMEN: LEADING WITH PROVERBS 31 VALUES BY LISA TROYER AND DAWN YODER, ©2014

Two chapters stood out to me as paralleling ~ the first on understanding others. A reference given is from Dr. Henry Blackaby in his book Experiencing God, which I have studied; a reminder of the necessity of seeking God: I am to “see where He is working and join Him there.” ~ and a chapter on the value of honesty. The words we speak are like seeds. An example given is “I’ll pray for you.” Good intent, but will we remember? Pray right then.

Attention to planning and the results of a Spirit-led life ~ being intentional about staying in God’s Word.

Real Women Leading with Proverbs 31 Values will be a resource you will want to return to.

  • REAL WOMEN LEADING WITH PROVERBS 31 VALUES BY LISA TROYER AND DAWN YODER (REVIEW AND IPAD MINI GIVEAWAY!)

I’ve always been fascinated by the description of the “capable wife” penned by King Lemuel in Proverbs 31, a message given to him by his wise mother. So I was really curious to see how this woman’s description would be used in relation to women leaders. In Real Women Leaders, Troyer and Yoder explore the values shown in Proverbs 31 through the example of women of the Bible, among them Martha, Ruth, Euodia, Syntyche, Abigail, Lydia and Esther.

I enjoyed reading about these women, all of whom I already studied in depth through my worship and personal Bible study. The book’s layout includes snippets of the both authors’ personal stories, examples of modern women who display Proverbs 31 values, and the IT factor at the end of each chapter that includes questions and summary points meant for reflection and action.

  • REAL WOMEN LEADING WITH PROVERBS 31 VALUES (BOOK REVIEW)

Who better to teach me about leadership than my model/nemesis, the Proverbs 31 woman? But Real Women Leading with Proverbs 31 Values isn’t JUST about the Proverbs 31 woman. Rather, it took the values she embodies and applied them to types of women as exemplified by other women in the Bible: the woman at the well, the woman taken in adultery, Martha, Abigail, Esther, and five others. From these women, you’ll learn how to apply to your work and home life ten corresponding values like honesty, restraint, and generosity.

“…I believe it’s helpful and important to pause and reflect every now and then about what aspects of our lives are healthy and what are some parts we need to work and pray through. We’ll never achieve the perfect woman status this side of heaven, but I know seeking and striving towards that, as with these values, is a great place to start!…”

  • While I am not in a very high leadership position, I really enjoyed this book and think that most women would find it helpful and encouraging. As moms, we are always in a leadership role and often times it takes us into other areas where we need to lead like mom’s groups, homeschool groups, church ministries, etc. This book is a great resource for encouragement and how-to type tips and ideas. I definitely recommend reading this book.

  • REAL WOMEN LEADING

The Proverbs 31 woman, who is she and how can we as women in 2014 measure up? Most women that have read about this mystery woman say that it is virtually impossible to live up to that standard. This book is a God send for this very idea.

  • REAL WOMEN LEADING #BOOKREVIEW #GIVEAWAY

I don’t work outside the home, but I needed this book. I needed their wisdom. There just aren’t that many older guiding women that I know who can help me in my role as a wife and mother and this book though it talks more about “the marketplace” and women still touches on how we as women can lead by example. I don’t think we have to work outside the home to do that. We can lead our children, we can lead our friends, we can lead women we come in contact with if only for a short moment. This is a book that is going to stay on my shelf for years and I will be taking down often to read through or just read sections of. A sincere thank you for writing this book from me to the authors. Bless you.

  • BOOK REVIEW: REAL WOMEN LEADING WITH PROVERBS 31 VALUES

The authors of Real Women Leading believe that Proverbs 31 contains core principles that every woman should embrace in their journey with God. By exploring these principles along with the lives of Biblical women, we can grow into the women God intends us to be — not cookie cutter women, but the unique person God intends.

I think this is a perfect resource for your women’s ministry and believe it would be great as a book study for your ministry team. It will help you define and focus your ministry, as well as grow the relationships among leadership.

  • “LEADERSHIP VALUES”

This is a thought-provoking, convicting study. It has made me think and work on things, and is something I want to start again and do more in depth. I think this is an invaluable tool to all Christian women who want to be the best they can be without compromise and settling. I highly recommend it.

  • PRACTICAL AND HELPFUL APPLICATION OF THE ELUSIVE PROVERBS 31 IDEAL

  • REAL WOMEN

Does the Proverbs 31 women bring images of June Cleaver to mind? Does she intimidate you? She doesn’t have to. You can be the Proverbs 31 woman God has described whether you work outside the home, work as a homemaker, or somewhere in between. I find that this book is very practical whether you are leading a team or leading your family. With scripture-based descriptions of key traits of the Proverbs 31 woman that are easily implemented in our every day lives, the book serves as a great reminder of how to strive to be a strong woman of God.

The book is full of practical and personal examples to help you catch what the authors are trying to teach. It also has wonderful review at the end of each chapter to help you think a little more about what they were saying and how you can apply it to your life.

  • LEADING WITH PROVERBS 31 VALUES

I really had a change of heart about the Proverbs 31 woman. Instead of seeing what she did as a list of chores, I see her as a woman of character in how she did what she did. Instead, I’m free to do what I think God is calling for us to do and displaying her character instead. It’s a lot easier to avoid comparisons when you are trying to live values instead of tasks that may not fit with the gifts God has given you. – See more at:http://www.happylittlehomemaker.com/#sthash.jiWga7vz.dpuf

  • REAL WOMEN

Right away I was drawn into Real Women Leading.. because I was raised with the view that I could do anything that I wanted to do.

I did not have to get married and submit myself to a husband; instead I could remain independent. The authors relate to this mindset, but they show how being a real woman is not isolating yourself, but rather in using these talents to better those around you. This is demonstrated by inspiring those around you by sharing the traits in this book of a Proverbs 31 leader. When you look beyond yourself you can embrace others and inspire them.

We all were given talents and we all have a different purpose on this Earth. Our society is isolating one another when God tells us to be Proverbs 31 leaders that inspire our future. These principles are given plainly and clearly throughout this book.

For more application the authors offer “The IT Factor” at the end of each chapter. This section is a summary of the past chapter with applicable questions to ponder along with practical application advice.

Real Women Leading is a great resource for all Christian women to be the woman God designed them to be.

  • REAL WOMEN LEADING

    This was an inspiring read.

All women should inspire to be a Proverb 31 women and lead like one.

I liked that the book has scriptures and some details explained behind each scripture.

It also has places in the book to write your specific action steps, that is an added benefit.

This is a good book and will help influence women and help them lead in a biblical way.

I gave this book 4 stars.

I was given a copy of this book by the publisher for my honest review.

  • MAKING THE MOST WITH WHAT I’VE GOT IS OK!

Real Women Leading sets out a very clear path for women to follow. While it does center around biblical teachings, it’s a practical book for women of any background. By relating situations to real people, the book offers insight and advice that can be easily followed. Some of the descriptors really hit home for me. For example, the emphasis on organization went straight to my heart. How many minutes have I wasted trying to find a bank statement or receipt? By taking a few minutes to organize those important papers, I could save myself a huge amount of time. Also, the recommendations for prioritizing were key reminders that I can’t always say “Yes” without a plan of action.

  • REAL WOMEN LEADING WITH PROVERBS 31 VALUES

Now, as I just said, the book really spoke to me about my job outside the home. It shed the deception Satan put on me about my place inside/outside the home and allowed me to start living a life full of these values. Those values are important not only in my workplace, but in my daily life at home – interacting with my husband and children, as well as in the church – interacting with my pastor, my church sisters and others.

Lisa Troyer and Dawn Yoder are going on my favorite authors list.

  • BOOK REVIEW: REAL WOMEN LEADING: WITH PROVERBS 31 VALUES

This book is full of great stuff; I’d recommend it to any Christian woman–whether she holds a leadership position or not. I read the book quickly out of necessity, but this is the kind of book that would best be read and ingested a chapter at a time. I liked how each chapter ended with a section called “The IT Factor,” which gave a review of the chapter, practical advice, and questions for helping the reader absorb and apply the information.
