The Ringmaster’s Wife (Thomas Nelson, June 2016)

An ounce of courage. A split-second leap of faith. Together, they propel two young women to chase a new life—one that’s reimagined from what they might have become.

In turn-of-the-century America, a young girl dreams of a world that stretches beyond the confines of a quiet life on the family farm. With little more than her wit and a cigar box of treasures to call her own, Mable steps away from all she knows, seeking the limitless marvels of the Chicago World’s Fair. There, a chance encounter triggers her destiny—a life with a famed showman by the name of John Ringling.

A quarter of a century later, Lady Rosamund Easling of Yorkshire, England, boards a ship to America as a last adventure before her life is planned out for her. There, the twenties are roaring, and the rich and famous gather at opulent, Gatsby-esque parties in the grandest ballrooms the country has to offer. The Jazz Age has arrived, and with it, the golden era of the American circus, whose queen is none other than the enigmatic Mable Ringling.

When Rosamund’s path crosses with Mable’s and the Ringlings’ glittering world, she makes the life-altering decision to leave behind a comfortable future of estates and propriety, instead choosing the nomadic life of a trick rider in the Ringling Brothers’ circus.

A novel that is at once captivating, deeply poignant, and swirling with exquisite historical details of a bygone world, The Ringmaster’s Wife will escort readers into the center ring, with its bright lights, exotic animals, and a dazzling performance that can only be described as the greatest show on earth!

  • ‘THE RINGMASTER’S WIFE’

Wow! Kristy Cambron has done it again and blown me away with her historical, romance novel, The Ringmaster’s Wife. Kristy has a beautifully written historical, romance! I love the duel timeline of Rosamund Easling and Mabel Ringling. The story of these two women beautifully and creatively are intertwined and at one point they cross. Kristy has spent time researching and paying attention to details that bring to life not only the historical setting of her story, but her wonderfully developed characters as well. This is one of those stories that readers will not want to put down. I would recommend this story to readers that enjoy Kristy’s other novels, as well as those that enjoy historical, romance.

  • ‘THE RINGMASTER’S WIFE’ — KRISTY CAMBRON

What makes a novel you read one that you would call great? Is one that touches your emotions? Is it one that helps you grow? Or one that takes you away from your mundane life and transports you into another place? Or maybe you learn something? Some books can actually do more than one or perhaps all of the above. It has been a while since a book I was reading touched me to the point of tears leaking from my eyes, but this one did. I got to know the characters, some fictional, but also some real people so well that when they hurt, I did too. I have never been to a circus, not even a midway, and I was not sure how well I would connect with the story. But people are people no matter the background, circumstances or lifestyle and Kristi did well to bring that to the reader. And we all experience the same feelings and emotions, and do well to remember that we are all neighbors, even if we do not live next door to each other or see each other regularly. I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to my readers and friends.

  • ‘THE RINGMASTER’S WIFE’ BY KRISTY CAMBRON WITH #REVIEW

Kristy Cambron is an author I have really enjoyed. Her books delve into a whole different world and bring the readers along for the ride. This one was no different and just might be my favorite, though I would be hard pressed to decide between this one and The Butterfly and the Violin. While she pens a novel set in a certain time period, she also swaps timelines, normally going back and forth between two stories set many years apart.

  • BOOK REVIEW: ‘RINGMASTER’S WIFE’ BY KRISTY CAMBRON

Cambron has deftly woven the legacy of Ringling Brothers circus with an eclectic cast of larger than life circus performers, freak show cast members and exotic animals. The Ringmaster’s Wife by Kristy Cambron is a heartwarming and exciting look back at a decadent time in history. The circus is definitely not as popular as it once was in America, but Cambron has carefully researched and creatively imagined what life was like behind the scenes of the “Greatest Show on Earth.”

Who doesn’t love the thrill, sounds and life of the circus? Much lost now on the current generations, I loved how Kristy brought the excitement back around. I recall going as a youngster myself, but only a few of my kids have even seen a real circus. Kristy is excellent at writing dual story lines that intersect. I have enjoyed every one of her novels and look forward to many more.

  • A BEAUTIFUL STORY OF COURAGE AND LOVE

I really enjoyed this look into the lives of the people behind the scenes of “The Greatest Show on Earth”, Ringling Brothers’ circus. With a steady pace and gentle romance, the two time lines of John & Mabel and Colin & Rosamund are weaved together until their stories merge in a delightful way. Colin is strong and confident and I love his steadfast loving belief in Rosamund. Rosamund is beautiful, courageous, and determined. Mabel and John’s sweet romance sets the stage and gives a steady background for the story. Loved it!

This is the third book I read by Kristy Cambron, and like her previous books, Cambron has the skill to transport her readers into her characters’ lives and into a bygone era. The Ringmaster’s Wife is different from many other books I read. I loved reading the parallel stories of Roseamund and Mable’s lives, how they finally intersect, and how they grew together. • ‘THE RINGMASTER’S WIFE’ BY KRISTY CAMBRON

I live only 40 minutes from Baraboo, WI, the original home of the Ringling Brothers, and the winter home of the circus until 1918. When I learned that Cambron’s new book would feature the Ringlings, I had hoped that Baraboo would be part of the story, but the main circus story takes place between 1926 and 1929, and Baraboo is not part of the backdrop. That omission does not detract from this glamorous and yet heart warming story. In reading, THE RINGMASTER’S WIFE, I wonder if we who are too young to have experienced the great days of the circus, wild west shows, and vaudeville may have missed an exciting part of America’s history. Thank you Kristy Cambron for showing us a glimpse of that world and for making it a positive story.

  • FICTION BOOK REVIEW: ‘THE RINGMASTER’S WIFE’ BY KRISTY CAMBRON

Kristy does a beautiful job weaving history with fiction. I enjoyed the wide variety of characters and learning about life in the circus in the nineteen-twenties. The Ringling’s home of Ca d’ Zan in Sarasota, Florida plays a backdrop for part of the story. What fun to read about Mabel’s home and her generous heart. Without giving away anything, I want to say that I loved Rosamund’s story. I loved Rosamund’s story. I am a fan of Downton Abbey. Following Rosamund’s path reminded me of some of Downton’s story lines in the last season, that of adventure and a new freedom for women. Kristy Cambron did an amazing job with research… If you enjoy historical fiction, the circus, or just a good story give The Ringmaster’s Wife a read. It’s a book to be savored and enjoyed.

  • WONDERFUL BOOK SPANNING THE AGES AND THE COUNTRY

I enjoyed Kristy Cambron’s The Ringmaster’s Wife even more than I expected; it perfectly foils the “Eeyoric” rain cloud that is Erik Larson’s “Devil in the White City.” Not to mention, it’s simply an excellent book in general: one I will read and re-read in years to come. Romance, action, and adventure play off each other well in this novel that switches between 1890s’ Mable and 1920s’ Lady Rosamund. While the point-of-view changes were a challenge to switch between at times, I enjoyed guessing how and when the two would ultimately converge. I’ll pick up more details when I re-read the book next, I’m sure.

The main parts of the story take place over a period of a few years with flashbacks throughout giving us a much bigger picture. Scene by scene I enjoyed the book. There were some beautiful word pictures, the setting was fairly well developed, and there wasn’t questionable content (yay!). The characters also started out with promise. Unfortunately, the story didn’t exactly make sense to me. It felt disjointed, as if a bunch of scenes were thrown together to create a partial story that didn’t have much of a plot line I kept waiting for a lightbulb moment to go off and have everything make sense, but that never happened.

Two love stories will make romance fans happy — the fictional relationship between Rosamund and circus boss Colin and the real life romance of John and Mabel Ringling. The Ringmaster’s Wife is also a book that will make you go back to Google time and again — you just have to see the many images of Ca’ d’Zan, the Ringling’s home in Sarasota, Florida.

  • TIME TO RUN AWAY AND JOIN THE CIRCUS IN THIS BRILLIANT AND CAPTIVATING NOVEL. A DEFINITE MUST READ!!!

I was simply captivated from the first three sentences of this novel, which I captured by the quote at the beginning of this review. It really does convey the persona’s we all put on each and every day. The person we allow people to see and the person we are inside. What child hasn’t wanted to run away at some point to join the circus and gain a sense of what really goes on in the Big Top. I absolutely LOVE the historical details that Kristy captured in the Ringling’s home in Sarasota and hope to add this to my bucket list to see this year hopefully! This one was over way too soon and I know deep in my heart, Kristy has managed to entertain the notion in my heart that “faith that when one has no control, there is One who does.”

I loved reading this book, and recommend it highly for fans of historical fiction, especially with a unique and atmospheric setting.

Kristy Cambron is a must-read author for me and her books are must-haves for my shelves. Kristy’s latest, The Ringmaster’s Wife, is fabulous – the cover, the storyline, the characters, the history, everything about it! I loved the two main characters, Mable and Rosamund, and the paths that they chose and how Kristy wove their stories together.

  • REVIEW: ‘THE RINGMASTER’S WIFE’ BY KRISTY CAMBRON

The Ringmaster’s Wife has a sense of family, that in the midst of the enchanting and chaotic existence in the circus, relationships based on kindness and compassion are what really bring happiness and belonging. I appreciated that the author’s words painted vivid pictures of the environments and experiences of the period. The timeline also stretches over a couple decades, weaving back and forth as lives are intertwined and echoed, and facets of the past are revealed.

  • ‘THE RINGMASTER’S WIFE’ BY KRISTY CAMBRON

In The Ringmaster’s Wife, I was hit early with the words and the introduction, yet it was the fluency afterwards, that gradually introduced me to this world and Rosamund’s life changes and choices that kept me reading. I am certain, this will not be the last book I read of Kristy Cambron’s.

  • GARDEN OF DREAMS

The Ringmaster’s Wife is another masterpiece from Kristy Cambron. Here fact meets fiction as the reader travels from Yorkshire to America between 1885 and 1929. The reader becomes immersed in circus life. Bonds are formed with both the people and animals.
Themes such as brokenness, forgiveness, trust, hope, love and many more are all explored.
Another fabulous novel from Kristy Cambron.

  • A SIMPLY MARVELOUS, FANTASTIC TALE!

Cambron’s storytelling style is fluid and easy to disappear into. However, I admit that the time jumping in the first few chapters had my head spinning a little. Whenever I sat down to read, I was completely taken in and I despised coming to the last few pages. After all, who wants a good book to end? But alas, it did. As for the characters in this novel, I grew quite attached to Rosamund and maybe a little more so to Mable. I liked Rosamund’s strength to just step out on her own and I deeply appreciated Mable’s generous, dear heart to those she encountered. These women are great role models.

  • ‘THE RINGMASTER’S WIFE’

The Ringmaster’s Wife is a magnificent tale of life under the Big Top. Cambron expertly weaves together the stories of two women separated by a generation: Mable Burton, who married John Ringling, and Lady Rosamund Easling, who spontaneously leaves her titled life in England to become a trick horse rider with the circus. Rich historical detail brings to life the turn of the twentieth century and the Roaring Twenties as Mable and Rose’s lives unfold.

  • IT TAKES YOU BACK.

I just felt like the story was rushed and there is a ton of back and forth in all different years. I’ll be honest I was getting frustrated with this, usually I like the different time lines but it was like two time lines for each person. I thought it was too much and it took away from the story. I don’t feel like I got to know any of the characters because of all of the jumping around. I thought the history part was interesting and overall a good story. I just wish it had been a bit more organized. Just my thoughts. I still look forward to her novels and I’m sure many will adore this book.

  • ‘THE RINGMASTER’S WIFE’

A unique blend of biography and fiction makes this a truly captivating read. Cambron’s talent for bringing history to life really enhances the story. I was as enamoured with the real life hero and heroine as I was with the fictional ones. And the circus setting makes a magnificent and unusual backdrop for both romance and mystery.
