{More about Stealing the Preacher}

A cowboy who wants to be a preacher. An outlaw’s daughter who wants to change his mind.

On his way to interview for a position at a church in the Piney Woods of Texas, Crockett Archer can’t believe it when he’s forced off the train by an outlaw and presented to the man’s daughter as the preacher she requested for her birthday. He’s determined to escape–which would be much easier if he could stop thinking about Joanna Robbins and her unexpected request.

For months, Joanna had prayed for a minister. A man to breathe life back into the abandoned church at the heart of her community. A man to assist her in fulfilling a promise to her dying mother. But just when it seems her prayers have been answered, it turns out the parson is there against his will and has dreams of his own calling him elsewhere. Is there any way she can convince Crockett he ended up right where he was supposed to be?

With her signature blend of humor, history, and lively western romance, two-time RITA Award finalist and bestselling author Karen Witemeyer delivers a Texas love story sure to steal your heart.

  • DELIGHTFULLY FUN READ!

Witemeyer’s story is full of very “colorful” characters that you will absolutely fall in love with. The preacher (Crockett) and Joanna are such fun characters to get to know and their love story is tender and faith filled. This was a surprisingly delightful read that you will enjoy!

  • STEALING THE PREACHER

STEALING THE PREACHER is the second book in Ms. Witemeyer’s series, the first being Short-Straw Bride, I’ve been looking forward to reading this book for awhile. It lived up to my expectations. I laughed out loud in the first chapter, and fell totally and completely in love with Joanna and Crockett by the seventh. One has to love a book that has an outlaw kidnapping a preacher for his daughter’s birthday—and the preacher yielding so completely to God’s call, no matter where it might be. I loved Silas (Joanna’s father) and I loved Jackson (a twelve-year-old man-child). Totally fantastic, wonderful book. LOVED it

  • LITFUSE GROUP: “STEALING THE PREACHER” BY KAREN WITEMEYER BOOK REVIEW

From the first few pages of this fast-paced historical romance, I was drawn in. I had a conception of what the story would be, and was I ever wrong! The characters are absolutely delightful–I love Crockett and Jo as well as Silas (I don’t think you can find better names than these!). The story has its ups, downs, twists, and turns, but the charm of the story is never lost.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author but I’d heard really good things. I have to say—I chose this book because I fell in love with the cover! Who wouldn’t see that nearly impish grin and not feel intrigued?!

I somehow just knew this book would have the right amount of humor in it but was pleasantly surprised at the overall theme of salvation. I will definitely read more from this author in the future!

Daily yielding and surrender to the leading of the Lord evident, the protagonists choose to exemplify strength and perSERVErance. Revealing true character and compassion, I especially like Crockett’s deliverance in clarity and a humble way to those he serves. Outward appearance definitely reflects the inner heart of man. Karen Witemeyer’s characters are approachable and resilient. A story to reflect on beyond the written page.

  • FUN HISTORICAL READ!

I found myself immediately drawn to this book because of the cover, and title, after all I couldn’t imagine what “Stealing The Preacher” might entail, but I have to say it was the attention grabbing story that kept me turning the pages to see where and what would happen next! I loved the lively conversations that literally brings the story to life. I also enjoyed the historical feel of the story! Fans of historical fiction that enjoy stories that provide more than a few laughs along with several smiles, a lively cast of characters and a nice, inspirational romance will find themselves devouring “Stealing The Preacher” in one sitting, I know that I did! An unputdownable read for me!

  • CAN’T GET ANY SWEETER HAVING A COWBOY AND PREACHER ALL ROPED INTO ONE!

Historical Christian Westerns are one of my long time favorite genre’s. Taking you back to a much simpler time, Karen Whitmeyer has done an exceptional job at pulling at your heartstrings in this novel. I love the way she uses the situations in this novel with Silas and Crockett almost like God pursing a lost sheep. All along the way it isn’t so much what Crockett says, but the actions he does that reaches out to the hardened heart of Silas and offers him a glimpse of the life his former wife had prayed so long for before she died. I’d rate this one a 5 out of 5 stars and finds its home along with my other Karen Whitmeyer novels. Welcome home Stealing the Preacher, welcome home! A must read for all western romance fans!!!

Karen Witemeyer’s style is vivacious and the perfect antidote to hum drum evenings (Forget the telly, move over John Wayne!). • STEALING THE PREACHER BY KAREN WITEMEYER – REVIEW & GIVEAWAY

If you’re looking for a fun book to add to your summer reading list – don’t miss Stealing The Preacher by Karen Witemeyer!

Stealing The Preacher is western romance at its finest!

The book is funny – the plot is engaging – the characters relatable. I liked the grit of the preacher, the strength of the heroine, and the devotion of the father.

The story carries a strong gospel message throughout – and gives new meaning to the saying, “be careful what you wish for!”

Giving readers a clever plot is half the battle in fiction. Veteran author, Karen Witemeyer does just that in her latest rip-roaring “western,” Stealing the Preacher. Narrating the story of yet another one of the popular, good-looking Archer brothers, Crockett is the man of the hour and the red-headed Texan Joanna Robbins is the girl who captures his fancy.

  • STEALING THE PREACHER

First of all, I LOVE this cover. I am so glad Bethany House decided to change it! And Karen Witemeyer is at it again with her awesome, humorous writing style. As I read Stealing the Preacher, I fell in love with the people of Piney Woods, and was really hoping that Crockett would decide to change his mind and be their new preacher, especially since he was so different from most preachers, and he identified with these people so well. With all of the twists and turns, and the adorable, unique characters, why not come on board with the rest of us and enjoy this wonderful summer, and well really, anytime read from Ms. Whitemeyer and Bethany House. You will sure be happy you decided to try this one. And while you are at it, check out the other books by Karen Witemeyer.

  • Stealing the Preacher is the second in a series, but it works well as a stand alone book too. The premise is a bit silly, but it does manage to tie into the larger story eventually.

There are days I can’t imagine what it would be like to have lived a hundred years ago and the way they did things. But people are still people with all their quirks, flaws, and talents and this story does a good job of showing you the people. With a few twists along the way you’ll find Stealing the Preacher to be a fun read.

  • INSPIRING STORY

Stealing the Preacher’s core themes were the importance of listening to God, being patient, and being willing to allow God to direct your steps. I appreciated the spiritual aspects of the story most of all. But I also adored Crockett as the hero and the love he felt for Joanna because of her caring heart and her desire to serve others. He treasured that more than just her pretty face. I thought that was a wonderful theme as well.

I believe this story illustrates very well how good men want someone who will be partner for life in all ways, and that woman needs to be someone they admire. That’s an admirable message for aspiring young single ladies who want to win a good man’s devotion. Flirtation and temptation are not the ways to accomplish that end. Very well done.

  • BOOK REVIEW: STEALING THE PREACHER

Stealing The Preacher is populated with interesting characters — from the endearing young boy who has staked his claim on Joanna’s affections, to the conniving woman who hopes to make Crockett her husband and the former Texas Ranger turned sheriff who is determined to catch the long elusive robber. The romance between Crockett and Joanna is fraught with misunderstandings and a near lynching! But the tone of the book is generally lighthearted. A quick read, it is perfect to tuck into your suitcase or pool bag.

    Recommended.

To be honest, when I began the book I thought it was somewhat ridiculous. I thought that the plot was completely defying credibility. I believed that the pastor, Crockett Archer was too perfect to be true. I thought that the rancher-kidnapper, Silas Robbins was an ill-tempered, cantankerous man. His daughter Joanna seemed like a spineless, shy young woman who let life happen to her.

However, as I read on, I began to change my mind. Pastor Archer turned out to be an amazing man of God who could preach powerful sermons but was also at home working as a cowhand. Silas Robbins actually was a loving father who turned out to be a man of great integrity. Joanna Robbins was a delicate looking young woman who had a spine of steel. Witemeyer drew the story together into a book that was enjoyable.

I enjoy a book with humor and odd twist and turns. This book is definitely in that category. The author writes of the characters of this story taking a path they have cut for themselves and shows how God leads them onto a straight path putting them on the path He had intended for them all along. This story has all the things I yearn for in a good book. There is reconciliation, trust, faith, love, romance and much more to keep your attention to the very last page, wishing to stay with the characters a while longer.

  • STEALING THE PREACHER

I have been a fan of Karen Witemeyer since her very first novel and have read each and every one of them. I can’t think of anything I don’t like about them except the fact that each one comes to an end and I am forced to wait for the next one to be published. “Stealing the Preacher” lived up to my expectations and provided several enjoyable hours of reading as well as reinforcing my decision to make sure to obtain a copy of all future novels by this author.

I loved the idea of the reformed outlaw who decided to kidnap a preacher off the train for his daughter’s birthday. Silas did not realize that the primary reason she wanted another preacher for their church was to help her bring her father to salvation. Little did Silas suspect how that one decision would affect the lives of himself and his daughter.

Who in the world robs a train and steals a preacher? Silas Robbins! A story that will have you laughing at the improbability of this happening, and crying at the tender moments of the story. Definitely not a boring hysterical, historical novel. This story was a breath of fresh air with the quirkiness of the characters, and the way they all joined together to make a story. • PREACHING TO MY SOUL!

A dash of intrigue, a great bit of romance and full on unabashed faith keeps this story going in page turning fashion from start to finish. I absolutely loved this story -perhaps I was in the need of a preacher man – but those who don’t revel in God’s glory probably would feel too consumed by the verses being recited throughout. I cannot wait to see what is next from Karen Witemeyer and I am definitely going to get to reading her previous novels sooner rather than later.

Stealing the Preacher was just what this reader wanted: a sexy Christian cowboy and a fantastic romance that offers unforgettable characters rewarded with redemption, it’s going on my Best of 2013 list without a doubt.

  • STEALING THE PREACHER BY KAREN WITEMEYER

I absolutely adored this book! I have loved each of Karen’s previous four books especially Short-Straw Bride, so not only was I already in love with this author but the hero of this book, Crockett, was one of my absolute favorite characters in Short-Straw Bride. Two facts that made me super excited for the release of this book! And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I loved every part of this book and think it might even be my favorite of hers!

  • The whole premise of this book is funny. It is filled with romance, but really it is just comical. I always enjoy a good southern book set in one of my favorite times and this one was no different. The setting being in Texas helps, too. If you are looking for a fun, easy-to-pick-up-where-you-left-off book this is a great one.

  • STEALING THE PREACHER

Once again, Karen Witemeyer has written a sweet, romantic, and at times laugh-out-loud funny novel. Stealing the Preacher is the sequel to Witemeyer’s delightful Short-Straw Bride, telling the story of Crockett Archer, one of my favorite characters in Short-Straw Bride. However, you definitely don’t need to have read Short-Straw Bride to understand and enjoy Stealing the Preacher—this book definitely can function as a stand-alone title.

  • A DELIGHTFUL LOVE STORY

Stealing the Preacher is a quick, fun read that could have you alternating between laughing and crying. This story set in 1885 Texas involves a preacher, outlaws, competing women, and more. Love, faith, and fun all play important roles.

The characters in this engaging story are people I would love to know. Joanna has a strong faith — although she has trouble believing in herself. Crockett is driven by a passion to preach — but he finds that God’s plans are not what he expected. Jackson is a young boy who just needs a little loving guidance. And Silas — well, there’s a lot to learn about the man under the tough exterior.

  • “STEALING THE PREACHER” BY KAREN WITEMEYER

I thought this was a fun little read. An action packed kidnapping, an unexpected love story! What’s not to like? Towards the middle of the book, it got to be a little predictable but I expected as much. If you are a fan of historical fiction, this is a nice light read. This is the first book I have read by Karen Witemeyer, but I was not disappointed. I will gladly read any more of her books! I rate this book as 4 stars! :)

  • STEALING THE PREACHER

I recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction or is just looking for a good story. I found the character development to be very good and believable, the description of the scenes was also done very good as the author really pulled you into the story. Pick up this book and see what happens between Joanna and Crockett and if love will conquer all. This was the second book telling the story of the Archer Brothers, I am looking forward to the next installment. 5 stars

  • UNUSUAL PLOT & LOVED IT!

The first thing that really stood out to me about this book was Joanna’s quiet spirit and her total love of God. I love a heroine that has quiet dignity yet her love for God shines through and Joanna is all of this! Even when another girl is after the Preacher she adores, she keeps her dignity and faith in God. Loved it!

  • “STEALING THE PREACHER” KINDLE FIRE GIVEAWAY AND AUTHOR CHAT PARTY {6/18} WITH KAREN WITEMEYER!

Stealing The Preacher is a charming and delightful book. This book is fun and has a very different story line. I just loved reading it. To start the book off with the preacher getting kidnapped and then how it ends is just perfect. I adored the character of Jo and hearing the thoughts in her head. She reminded me that we all are self conscious and we don’t always see ourselves as others and God does.
I really enjoyed the fact that the main back ground story was about her father’s salvation. Despite the fun, romance, and even trouble that was always in the back of my mind. The author worked it in seamlessly. If you are looking for a fun and sweet book but with an even deeper meaning look no further!

  • JUNE BOOK REVEIWS

This was an excellent book, and I didnt get in the beginning that it was the sequel to Short Straw Bride, this book was excellent! I enjoyed reading the escapades of Crockett trying to win over Joanna’s father by showing him who Jesus is though his actions.

  • AS COMFORTING AS CHOCOLATE

Karen Witemeyer’s books are as comforting as chocolate – her writing silky smooth, the romance delicious, and the heart of it all too good to resist. She has the Christian Historical Romance genre down to a sweet science. And might I add that the covers her stories are “wrapped” in are so lovely and enticing? (I’m glad that Bethany House went with this cover – with the pretty pink and chocolate dress, the soft background colors, and the connection with a piece of the plot, which is always fun!)

  • THIS AMAZING BOOK IS A “KEEPER”!

I absolutely adored “Stealing the Preacher” by Karen Witemeyer! This second book in the series chronicling the lives and loves of the Archer men named for Alamo heroes is wonderfully humorous and addresses serious spiritual matters. Crockett Archer has left home to pursue the life of a preacher. On the train ride to his audition, he is sidetracked by the father of a pretty redhead who is praying for her local church to be brought back to life and salvation for her father.
