{More about The Courier of Caswell Hall}

An unlikely spy discovers freedom and love in the midst of the American Revolution.

As the British and Continental armies wage war in 1781, the daughter of a wealthy Virginia plantation owner feels conflict raging in her own heart. Lydia Caswell comes from a family of staunch Loyalists, but she cares only about peace. Her friend Sarah Hammond, however, longs to join the fight. Both women’s families have already been divided by a costly war that sets father against son and neighbor against neighbor; a war that makes it impossible to guess who can be trusted.

One snowy night Lydia discovers a wounded man on the riverbank near Caswell Hall, and her decision to save him will change her life. Nathan introduces her to a secret network of spies, couriers, disguises, and coded messages—a network that may be the Patriots’ only hope for winning the war. When British officers take over Caswell Hall and wreak havoc on neighboring plantations, Lydia will have to choose between loyalty and freedom; between her family’s protection and her own heart’s desires.

As both armies gather near Williamsburg for a pivotal battle, both Lydia and Sarah must decide how high a price they are willing to pay to help the men they love.

Part of the American Tapestries™ series: Each standalone novel in this line sets a heart-stirring love story against the backdrop of an epic moment in American history. This is the fifth book in the series.

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL BY MELANIE DOBSON

When I’m studying my genealogy, it is the Revolutionary War that I find the most interesting and intriguingly this seems to be a lesser time period to find many Christian Historical Fiction novels in, so there was extra interest for me here. In my opinion, Melanie Dobson is an amazing storyteller. To mix her storytelling talents with the best current various author themed series and I’m one happy camper. Much like the Love Finds You series, the American Tapestry books standalone but instead of location, it’s focus is on a time period in history. My first experience was with Janice Thompson’s Queen of the Waves and that was excellent as well!

Often I find that I have to remind myself when I pick up a book from Melanie Dickerson that just because I believe I will read a little before bed,

I always enjoy a good historical fiction novel to transport me back ‘to the day’, even when that day wasn’t quite as desirable as the time we live now.

I really appreciate how this novel stands alone as does the others in the series, so you can pick up any one of them and learn about history.

  • FITTING FOR NOW

How ironic to be reading this story about the American revolution with the current state of our government. The amount of personal sacrifice that happened, even by the future leaders of our country, was immense.

The prologue to the book is Lydia at a 4th of July celebration 50 years in the future relieving the past. So while in some ways I don’t like that the story gives away some of the ending it’s not like we don’t know that America isn’t a colony of Britain anymore either!

And along the way there are hard choices to be made about where your loyalties lie and what it means to truly stand for truth and freedom.

I truly love historical fiction that brings to life the time period and doesn’t just use it as a backdrop for “another” romance.

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL

As with any war, the Revolutionary War made people do things they didn’t know they were capable of doing. Torn between her family and her beliefs, Lydia Caswell finds that she has to make decisions that may put her and her family in danger. All she wants is for this wretched war to end, but she must do her part in making it so, even if it’s the last thing she does.

This book was a different read for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I could not put it down. The ending was a little rushed, though. Other than that it was a very well-written book about the Revolutionary War that stayed true the facts as they really happened, and the fiction that was so creatively written around them.

Full of adventure, suspense and a little romance, this book is a hit! I felt I could picture every detail as I read it’s vivid description. While reading this book, it made me more grateful for what our forefathers went through to provide us with freedom!

  • Last night for some reason I couldn’t sleep and I picked up The Courier of Caswell Hall to read in bed while I was waiting for morning to come and boy am I glad! The book starts slow – even though it jumps right into the story. There is enough descriptive paragraphs in the story to make you feel like you are right there participating in the lives of Lydia, Sarah, Nathan and everyone else in the battle for the Freedom of the Colonies.

This is a wonderful story for anyone who enjoys reading historical novels based on real historical events. Yes, it’s fiction – but loosely based on The American Revolution. I thoroughly enjoyed it! It would make a great Christmas gift for anyone who enjoys history, action and romance.

  • BOOK REVIEW: THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! “The Courier of Caswell Hall” is the fifth book in the series called An American Tapestry. This is the first book I have read written by Melanie Dobson, but it will not be my last! She does an amazing job of intertwining fiction and historical fact. Once you start reading this book you will not be able to put it down. You do not have to read the other books in the American tapestry series to feel connected to Lydia, Sarah and everyone else in the story. I love how the two different stories come together in the end of the book. If you love historical fiction you are going to love “The Courier of Caswell Hall”

  • A FANTASTIC READ!

I have had the pleasure to read a number of Dobson’s books in the past and I have absolutely loved them. The latest, The Courier of Caswell Hall, has certainly been a welcome addition to my historical fiction library to be certain.
If you like American Revolution history, this is definitely the book for you. With well-developed story lines, and characters that will draw you in from the first pages, you will be reading late into the night with this book.It is full of great twists and turns and keeps you on your toes.

  • A FANTASTIC LOOK IN THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR

The historical detail in The Courier of Caswell Hall was fantastic! The uncertainty of the war is displayed, along with how, only some of the people were for the Patriots, others were for the British, and then some who just didn’t care. They were ready for this strife to end. That was all that they cared for. And depending on how one viewed something, could easily tear a family apart. Sons against fathers, brother verses brother. It was a hard time.

It was a wonderfully written story!

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL BY….MELANIE DOBSON

The historical facts from this era were amazing. Lydia was a neat and interesting character and she captured my heart early in the story. I had to keep reading to see what would happen with her! All of the characters are well thought out and developed so well throughout the story. I love the detail that Melanie Dobson includes in all of her books, just as she did in this one. I found myself so glue to the story I didn’t want to put it down because it was so very interesting!

  • “THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL” BY MELANIE DODSON

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! “The Courier of Caswell Hall” is the fifth book in the series called An American Tapestry. This is the first book I have read written by Melanie Dobson, but I will not hesitate to read any other books she has written. I am a fan of historical fiction and particularly enjoyed the setting of this book, which was the American Revolution. The author has done an excellent job at developing characters with whom we can connect and enjoy reading about. I really like it when an author causes me to give strong thought as to what men, women, and children actually endured during a particular era in our history. The historical accuracy in this book makes it all the more enjoyable to read and the characters are easily envisioned going through their day-to-day activities.

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL BY MELANIE DOBSON { BOOK REVIEW }

I really enjoyed The Courier of Caswell Hall, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a glimpse into the lives of the British colonists during the American Revolution. The story explores how many families found their loyalties to England and the fledgling United States divided between family members, friends, and communities. I really enjoyed learning more about General Washington’s network of spies, and about the privateers they employed to raid British ships to feed, cloth, and arm their own soldiers. Melanie Dobson weaves a wonderful story of the longing for freedom and peace, and the lengths – both good and bad – that people will go to to claim them.

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL

Melanie Dobson puts so much detail into her books, like I’ve said above. I think that’s what sticks with me as I read her books. She can make a topic that seems a little uninteresting become very interesting. She an author I tend to seek out when I know one of her books are about to come out. I have come to look forward to her books because she puts so much depth into her writing. This book required me to pay a little more attention to just because of the time period it was written in, I think. The romance is there, but there’s so much more going on besides that.

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL

The book is well researched and brings out the fear that underlies any spying mission. These girls weren’t trained. They weren’t anything other than society girls yet they put it on the line for a cause. The characters are well developed and the romance takes a back seat to the history which makes it an interesting read. It was a tumultuous time in this country’s history and I’m sure many families were torn apart with different feeling towards how it would all come to play. Ms. Dobson expresses that very, very well.

One of the best books that I’ve read this year!

I enjoyed immensely—it was every bit as good as the last book that I read in the American Tapestries series.

As a matter of fact; The Queen of the Waves made it into my top ten books of 2012 and The Courier of Caswell Hall will most likely be in my top ten for 2013.

American Tapestries is an excellent stand-alone series that I suggest for fans of historical fiction.

  • UNLIKELY SPIES AND ROMANCE

Historical fiction is a genre that I am coming to enjoy more and more, and this was my first journey into this particular time period. The history lesson woven into such a compelling story filled with rich characters made for a very enjoyable read. This is the first book I’ve read by Melanie Dobson, but I hope it will not be my last. She hooked me from the very beginning with a touching prologue that gently invited me into the story of Lydia and Nathan. The twists and turns of so many joys and sorrows held my interest to the last page.

  • GOOD HISTORICAL FICTION

This story was more of a historical novel than a historical romance, but it was still a good book. There were two different stories that came together at the end. This story had its sad moments and it’s enthralling ones. It wasn’t my favorite book by Melanie, and I love many of her books, but it was still worth reading. If you love fiction set during the Revolutionary War and tales of bravery, spying, and such, you will enjoy this book.

I can’t say much without giving away a major plot point but I didn’t like what happened to a certain character and the fact that it was just kind of brushed aside by the other characters in the story. Still, I liked the book and will look forward to reading more from Melanie Dobson!

  • The Courier of Caswell Hall” by Melanie Dobson served as my introduction to Summerside Press’ “American Tapestry” series. History and love share the stage in this story set during the turbulent American Revolution. The plot brims with historical details and give a new perspective on the turning point in our nation’s history. Overall, I enjoyed the abundance of history and Dobson’s descriptions of the beautiful Williamsburg area. There were times in the beginning of the novel when the plot seemed a bit stilted by the emphasis on historical facts; and while the narration flowed well, the conversation felt stilted. Fortunately, once the historical foundation was laid, the plot became more emotionally engaging and the characters became more dimensional.

  • REVIEW: THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL

I’ve enjoyed books by Melanie before, so I was expecting this to be another great read, but I was surprised at the depth of characterization, historical detail, and emotion found within its pages. The Courier of Caswell Hall is an interesting and moving read that captured and held my attention from the first page, but it’s not a light read. Yes, it’s a beautiful and touching romance, but Nathan and Lydia’s love story is secondary to the themes of divided loyalties, courage, deceit, sacrifice, and the realities of war.

My favorite part of this book was watching Lydia’s values change. She has grown up as a die hard Royalist her entire life, but once she met Nathan and saw what America was feeling and fighting for, her thoughts on the subject began to change. People change every day and certain circumstances can put certain things into perspective. Lydia only knew one side until she met Nathan, and I loved how Dobson used that to twist the entire story and to take Lydia, and myself, on an amazing adventure!

Intricately written, The Courier of Caswell Hall weaves those known by each other into a fine tunnel of espionage so closely connected yet far apart. The intrigue heightens as Hannah is determined to find out the secret Lydia has been hiding. She is a danger to her whole household as she manipulates and leaks out information. How Lydia longs for the days before the war when she and her friend, Sarah, at the neighboring Hammond Plantation, spent time together dreaming of Sarah and Grayson at Caswell Hall and Lydia and Seth at Hammond Plantation with their children free to visit between the two estates. But it is merely a dream now. The price of freedom isn’t free.

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL.

The Courier of Caswell Hall is a window into the intricacies of being an entire family caught between loyalty to The Crown (which promises security and yet oppression) and allegiance with the Rebels (who promise freedom and yet also pain.)
It is so strange, to think of the contrast that a female spy such as Lydia lived with.
She was a gentlewoman, born and bred to refinement. Her spying methods were all rather genteel: listening to conversations, memorizing details, leaving and retrieving notes stashed behind the loose brick in the orangery…. yet the consequences of such actions could be tragic. Stolen property, burned plantations and murder itself through various means were not uncommon if you were suspected to be a Rebel.

My review; This is a story that takes place during the American Revolution. The American Revolution was a fast changing time in our history. This is about 2 women who are friends who both are deeply moved by the war. Lydia Caswell discovers that choosing sides is not as easy as she thought it would be. A decision that she makes one night will change all that she holds dear. She is forced to choose between family and feelings that she has started to feel for someone, she has just met. What will she decide? Will she stay loyal to her heart or her family loyalty? I give this book a 5/5. • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL BY MELANIE DOBSON – BOOK #GIVEAWAY! @LITFUSE #BOOK REVIEW

This is my favorite in the American Tapestries series. The American Revolution is an interesting period in our nation’s history, and the novel has been well-researched. The characters are developed well, and the plot is complex enough to maintain the suspense until the end. The only problem I had with the story was that the institution of slavery seemed to be a bit sanitized. I understand that this was not the focus of the novel, but it always seems to be convenient when the main characters are “good” slave-owners.

Overall, a solid installment in the series and sure to be a favorite among Christian historical fiction readers.

The An American Tapestry has been an interesting series with each book taking place in a different time and location in history. The Courier of Caswell Hall takes place during the American Revolutionary War. I have only read a few historical-romances set during this era, as most books in the genre are set during the 1800s. Melanie Dobson is a wonderful author and she has created great characters and an intriguing plot with her newest release. I was hooked into the story from page one and I finished reading the entire book in one afternoon. The Courier of Caswell Hall is well-written historical-romance and I recommend it to all readers.

  • MELANIE DOBSON BOOK GIVEAWAY! AND BOOK REVIEW – “THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL”

This story is timeless and it is easy to empathize with the characters and become lost in their lives and dilemmas. Melanie writes with such vivid details that the time period comes alive and history becomes real. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it to anyone whom enjoys historical fiction filled with historical details.

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL BY MELANIE DOBSON

What I found within the pages of “The Courier of Caswell Hall” was a story that takes place during the tender years of our countries history that really brought history to life for me. Along with history the author provides interesting characters allowing us to glimpse what they truly believed in. Suspense, danger, romance and a sharing of the characters faith made this a great historical read!Truthfully I don’t really read many stories that are set during the Revolutionary War time period but “The Courier of Caswell Hall” has me rethinking that decision.

  • LITFUSE TOUR: THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL (AN AMERICAN TAPESTRIES SERIES BOOK) BY MELANIE DOBSON #GROW4CHRIST

This book was a pure delight to delve into, besides the Civil War period I enjoy learning more about the Revolutionary War (I think this fascination stems from having relatives who fought in both). Since we’ve been studying the Revolution and George Washington and all that those entail during our homeschool studies this made the book all the more fun. The reader can feel Lydia’s struggle as she wants to do what is right toward her father and what is right for her country and the man she comes to love – Independence or loyalty to the Crown? The book pulls you into the conflict that shaped how our country was governed and into the men and women life’s who were caught in the upheaval.

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL

As I kept turning the pages while reading, various characters whether spies or slaves, Tories or Patriots, intrigued me as to how dedicated the characters were in their devotion toward freedom. Even though both sides had differing views of what freedom looked like, it was how some of them made their choice as to which side they would stand on. Again, I was struck with the cost of war in lives, as well as the cost many people paid for trying to live one day at a time. Many devoted not only their lives, but their fortunes as well to win the war. Please take time to read a well written, passionate book titled, The Courier of Caswell Hall. You won’t regret making time to read!

  • HISTORICALLY RICH PAGE TURNER

With well-fleshed out characters and an intriguing plot, I found this book to be a very enjoyable read! I’ve read some rather disappointing fluffy historical fiction/romance lately so I was glad for this fresh perspective from Melanie Dobson.

  • RIVETING HISTORICAL

The Courier of Caswell Hall is a well-written historical with powerful characters. Lydia’s journey from staunch Loyalist to Patriot spy was intriguing, but my favorite part was how Dobson integrated Lydia’s spiritual beliefs into every part of the story. There was no preaching, no sudden cry for healing or deliverance at the climax. Lydia’s character relied on God and His word for wisdom not only in times of stress, but also in her “ordinary world,” before all the excitement started. Her character arc, the way she changed, was very believable because of her strong faith.

Dobson’s richly-detailed descriptions and deep characterization made the storyline not only realistic, but compelling.

The Courier of Caswell Hall is a great story and I’ll probably read it again.

  • REVOLUTIONARY HISTORICAL NOVEL

I have always enjoyed historical fiction, particularly that pertaining to my own country’s early history. Melanie Dobson’s “The Courier of Caswell Hall” presented me with an entirely different look at the Revolutionary War than I have experienced in other novels. In it I found a more personal look at life in Virginia during that crucial period for our nation . It was a time when friends and neighbors and even family members disagreed on where to place their loyalties knowing their decisions could separate them from those closest to them. It was a time when their loyalty could cost them everything they owned or even their lives. And sometimes that loyalty was not rewarded as expected but taken for granted or even misused.

  • LOVELY ROMANCE MIXED WITH HISTORY

I have been to Williamsburg, VA and it is truly beautiful and I can only imagine what it really must have looked like back then during the war. Times were difficult for both men and women but I think women had it worse because they were left to their own devices as to how to survive the war. So, I can see where things like this might have happened. We are only human after all and being a woman, we can be just as passionate as men but in a different way.

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL-THRILLING INTRIGUE AND ROMANCE IN COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG!

The Courier of Caswell Hall offers a thrilling combination of action, history, mystery and romance. British soldiers, runaway slaves, gorgeous plantations, and secret messages come together to capture your full attention. The characters were memorable and admirable- except for Major Reed (dastardly villain you’ll love to hate) and Hannah Caswell (a villain at just 15 years old!). I thoroughly enjoyed their back stories which added a wonderful richness and depth to the book. I was completely in awe of the Patriots with their bravery and selflessness and found myself holding my breath more than once when the British made an appearance! I was also charmed by the way Melanie Dobson wove actual historical events and people into her fictional story.

  • LOVED IT

This book took me a bit to get into. It may be, perhaps, because I was still living in the world of the last book…does that happen to you? :) Anyway, once I got into it I couldn’t put it down. Lydia and Sarah made such wonderful female characters and I loved seeing a different side of the American Revolution. I truly learned a lot about the war and that is why I love historical fiction. I am hoping to read the rest of this series and possibly using them when my daughter gets in high school. Plus there is a love story which was great. I cried and laughed and genuinely loved this book.

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL

The last thing Lydia was expecting when she snuck off to admire British ships in the moonlight was a man. But find him she did, and with her discovery, an entire network of spies, couriers, coded messages, disguises, and operatives. The secret network may be the only thing that wins the war, but Lydia’s allegiance lies – by association with her family – with the crown.

Lydia’s wavering allegiance to the crown made the story for me. Her uncertainty between what she was told was right and then her startling belief to the contrary got my attention and kept it throughout the entire book. Danger, action, suspense, forbidden romance, and espionage run rampant through the book, and whether or not this genre is your cup of tea – it was a very enjoyable book to read and a perfect recipe for a relaxing evening.

  • BOOK REVIEW: “THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL” BY MELANIE DOBSON

The Revolutionary War and spies! This is the recipe that Melanie Dobson has created for us in “The Courier of Caswell Hall”. Up until this point the colonies had never cried out for independence before so this was a premier event. Not everyone was keen on the idea of independence, after all it was treason and punishable by hanging. So there are the Loyalists to The Crown, which promises security but maintains English oppression) and The Rebels who promise freedom with the possibility of hanging. Lydia’s family are Loyalists but she manages to fall in love with a Rebel and then acts as a rebel spy. Danger, action, adventure suspense thriller all rolled up in a very exciting read. On top of all of this there is the romance.

  • ANOTHER WINNER BY MELANIE DOBSON!

I am a huge fan of Melanie’s writing. Each of her books transports me to the location and time of the story she pens and this one did the same as previous works I have read by this incredible author. The characters in the book make some good and poor decisions on behalf of their families and things don’t end as some would hope, however, there is love in the pages. Characters use deception for what they deem to be the right cause. Freedom comes at a price and our decisions impact our lives and those we love.

  • AN UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE

The Courier of Caswell Hall is a well-written book that shows the human side of a war that is so important to the United States of America. It speaks to the reader to turn inward and examine when to take risks for one’s beliefs. What I enjoyed about this particular story is that it shows the conflicted feelings and the fear that loyalist colonists felt during the Revolutionary War. Dobson shows the difficulties that people on both sides had in this well-researched novel. This was a time period in our nation that is rich in events and stories and Dobson makes them come alive. I felt that I really had a sense of the bravery and courage that Lydia had to draw on as she tried to live her life in a way that was God honoring and that followed her personal beliefs.

  • BOOK REVIEW: THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL

The historical aspects of The Courier of Caswell Hall are spot on — from the military maneuvers to common customs to slavery in the colonies. I found all of this fascinating and learned quite a bit as well. The characters are very well-devoloped and realistic — from dedicated patriots, slaves, British soldiers to loyalist citizens. Their emotions, motives and actions portray the nature of both sides of the American Revolution. Historical figures and events are included to give this novel a feeling of truth. The great sacrifice by our founders to achieve freedom is profoundly portrayed; a great lesson for all Americans today.

  • This book was not what I expected. It was filled with such a wonderful story that really brushed up my history lessons. I really am not sure how accurate or how much is based on actual historical events, but it seemed extremely likely that it could have been very close to real. The story grips you and makes you want to continue reading.

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL

In The Courier of Caswell Hall, Melanie Dobson takes the reader into the Revolutionary War. I felt like I was at Caswell Hall while the British soldiers wreaked havoc on the surrounding community, with Sarah as she risked her life to save men held captive by the British, and hiding out with Nathan as he longed to deliver an urgent message. Dobson does a wonderful job of pulling the reader directly into the action.

I enjoyed The Courier of Caswell Hall more than I expected to—more than I’ve enjoyed a book in quite a while. A word of caution, though: read with a box of Kleenex nearby!

  • THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL BY MELANIE DOBSON

I have to say that when I read the prologue it was so beautifully written (I read it with tears streaming down my face) that I just knew the rest of the book couldn’t measure up to the high standards I had already set. I was so very wrong and so thoroughly pleased. This was a beautiful story of love and loss, hope and strength, devestation and yet, beauty. I felt like I was IN the story fighting along side of Nathan, Seth and Grayson. Delivering messages with Lydia and Sarah. The Revolutionary War was brought to life within the pages of this book. When there was death I cried with those left behind. When there was even a small victory I rejoiced along with them. I don’t think I have ever read a story that has evoked such emotion in me. The Courier of Caswell Hall is a book that you will want to read again and again. It will take you on an emotional journey that you will never forget. I VERY highly recommend reading this book!

This book really pleasantly surprised me! I went in expecting a book that was good but not anything to spectacular, but that expectation was quickly and efficiently shattered! This book was SO good!
One of the things that made this book so great was the way that the author showed just how hard life during the American Revolution was for the colonists. I never really thought about just how difficult it would be for some to choose which side they were on! And it really must have been a hard decision, one that you could never be sure the consequences of!
I also really loved all of the characters and how real they were. Everyone from the main characters to the minor were all written so believably and you could really see exactly where they came from.

  • “THE COURIER OF CASWELL HALL” BY MELANIE DOBSON

This is the best historical fiction I’ve read since the last time I’ve read a Melanie Dobson novel. There’s just something about this author who is able to transport me completely to whatever time and place she chooses. Her unique perspective helps to set her books apart from others; The Courier of Caswell Hall focuses on the many roles women played in the Revolutionary War – and I don’t mean from inside their kitchens, either.

I loved Lydia’s story. I can’t imagine just how scary it must have been, knowing that to choose a side and lose, all principles aside, could mean the loss of your family’s security and social standing – things which mean little eternally but which can mean a great deal as you live through their loss.

  • GREAT HISTORICAL FICTION

A full cast of characters both real and fictitious blend together seamlessly to bring the Revolutionary War to life.

Lydia pulls a mysterious stranger from the river, who changes her life forever.

The main plot of the book is greatly enhanced by the subplots, and the many secrets that come to light over the course of the book. I loved the realistic-ness of the setting and story, and it made sense that Lydia and Nathan wouldn’t see each other too often, as it was a time of war. So their interaction was limited, but that actually made a lot of sense to me, considering the circumstances.

  • LOVE THE HISTORY

I love any story that has to do with the Revolutionary War. I love the brave stories of people fighting for their freedom from the king and I enjoy reading both sides, Patriots and Loyalists. In any case as soon as I saw the cover to this book I was excited. There is a lot of history within the pages of this book which I enjoyed and the characters are realistic to the time. The horror of having your house set on fire by the opposing political power and living your daily life completely unsure about what to do next. Lydia is in a bad position because most of her family is loyalist and the other are considered rebels. What does she do?
I love how the story plays out and reading about the spies, their plans, and their hiding places. There were some clever people who figured out how to be spies.

Historical fiction lovers will enjoy this book, though at times it is a bit slow.

  • HAS YOU BY THE PROLOGUE

Dobson’s writing had me by the prologue–which usually doesn’t happen for me. There was so much going in the prologue that it made me want to know how those characters got to that moment. By the end of chapter 1, I knew I had to keep reading. I finished this book in one sitting. It was seriously that great.

There was so much depth and richness to this book that I felt as if I was watching an HBO series about the history of America, such as the series John Adams or even the movie Lincoln. Dobson does a fantastic job at creating a plot that involves powerful women that helped form America and its history.

I enjoyed reading this book. One of my favorite time periods to read about is this time period. I think Melanie did very good job with the history part of this book.
