The Inn at Ocean’s Edge (Thomas Nelson, April 2015)

Claire’s visit to a luxury hotel in Maine awakens repressed memories, threatening all she holds dear.

In 1989, Claire Dellamare disappeared from her own fourth birthday party at the Hotel Tourmaline on the island of Folly Shoals, Maine. She showed up a year later at the same hotel, with a note pinned to her dress but no explanation. Nobody knows where Claire spent that year—and until now, Claire didn’t even know she had ever been missing.

But when Claire returns to the Hotel Tourmaline for a business meeting with her CEO father, disturbing memories begin to surface . . . despite her parents’ best efforts to keep them forgotten.

Luke Rocco lost his mother under equally mysterious circumstances—at the same time Claire disappeared. After a chance encounter reveals the unlikely link between them, Claire and Luke set out together to uncover the truth about what happened that fateful year.

With flashbacks swimming just beneath her consciousness and a murderer threatening her safety, Claire’s very life depends on unscrambling her past . . . even if her family refuses to acknowledge it. Someone—maybe everyone—is hiding something from Claire Dellamare, and it will cost her everything to drag the truth out into the light.

Finding the love of family in unexpected places

Award-winning author weaves mystery that reminds readers of the bonds that go beyond blood ties

2/20/2015 || Seattle: God promises in Psalm 68:6 He will place the lonely in families, and in The Inn at Ocean’s Edge (Thomas Nelson/April 14, 2015/ISBN: 978-1401690267/$15.99), author Colleen Coble paints a picture for readers of how comfort, acceptance and love can come from the most surprising sources and in the most dire of circumstances. In the first installment in the new Sunset Cove series, Coble introduces us to Claire Dellamore, who — at first glance — seems to have lived an idyllic life. Even to Claire, her childhood seemed like a fairytale, but a business trip to Sunset Cove turns her world upside down.

The minute she steps inside the grand Inn at Ocean’s Edge, Claire Dellamare knows something terrible happened there. Her anxiety runs so deep she has a panic attack, causing quite the scene and embarrassing her father. To quiet her nerves, she goes for a walk on the beach but ends up seeing a woman fall to her death from a nearby cliff. Claire believes she has witnessed a murder, but local police find no evidence of foul play and quickly write off the “nervous” woman’s testimony as less than credible.

Local resident Luke Elwell has reason to believe Claire, though. His mother disappeared years ago, and the local law enforcement never investigated it as a potential homicide. Wondering if this new incident could be connected to his mother’s disappearance, Luke steps in to help Claire solve the mystery. As old family secrets are revealed, Claire begins to wonder if her fairytale upbringing was really an elaborate lie.

As their pasts leave them wondering whom they can really trust, Claire and Luke are drawn together into an unexpected bond. “Some families are born and some families are made,” Coble explains. “God brings people into our lives who can fill in some of our missing pieces and help us grow stronger and closer to him.”

Coble has experienced this principle firsthand. Growing up with three brothers, she always longed for a sister, and in her adulthood, she found one in Diann Hunt. Coble says before meeting Diann, she never knew people unrelated to you by blood could feel so much like family. Sadly, Diann lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2013, with Coble at her bedside. Coble reveals, “My love for and connection with her inspired me to write about complex family situations that extend beyond just the traditional nuclear family.”

Readers’ minds will be captivated by the thrilling mystery unraveled in The Inn at Ocean’s Edge, while their hearts will be reminded that ultimately, their identity doesn’t come from the family they were born into, but from the Lord — and it doesn’t always take blood for love to flourish.

Colleen Coble will be hosting a Facebook party on May 5th at 8:00 PM EST to celebrate the release of The Inn at Ocean’s Edge and connect with her readers. Watch for updates on Coble’s Facebook page.

  • EXPECTED THE UNEXPECTED FROM A STORY WITH GREAT SUSPENSE AND TWISTS!

The suspense of this story kept me guessing as I read. Small pieces of a greater puzzle were revealed a piece at a time, so I could hardly stand to put it down.

Highlights of the book I found as a reader:

*The unique occupations of the hero and heroine’s family really drew me in. Claire’s father is the CEO of the Hotel Tourmaline. Luke’s family owns a cranberry farm and he also works with baby orcas.
    *Two old mysteries interwoven together.
*The sizzle of the romance on the page between Luke and Claire.
*The twists and turns of the plot.
*The beautiful imagery Colleen weaves makes you feel as if you are sitting at the ocean shore.
*The characters come alive on the page with their very distinct personalities.

  • GET YOUR ATTENTION

If you like to read a combination of romance and suspense, you will love the book The Inn at Ocean’s Edge by Colleen Coble. This was one book I could not put down. It was just one tragedy after another and I wanted to know more. The suspense was not extreme but it did grab my attention in different parts of the book. I don’t want to give away too much information so you can solve the murder mystery on your own.

What a great story. The suspense and mystery were spell binding in the plot. I couldn’t put the book down. The author did a great job of creating authentic and true to life characters that you either loved or loved to hate. The story was very fast paced and will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. There was a message of faith in the story, but it was subtly woven in. I enjoyed the romance and the family aspects that the author brought up. It was an exciting read that stayed with me long after I finished the book. Definitely one I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good romantic suspense.

I love the whole idea of this book. There is so much mystery and intrigue. A whole year of Claire’s life is unaccounted for and Luke’s mom’s body has never been found nor have they figured out how she died. And many other little subplots got added in. I truly enjoyed this book.

  • THE INN AT OCEAN’S EDGE BY COLLEEN COBLE AND #BOOKTOUR

The Inn at Ocean’s Edge totally blew me away! Claire defies all stereotypes of an entitled heiress, and I absolutely loved Luke – strong, intelligent, caring, and entirely believable! This is also the first time I’ve seen a character suffering from panic attacks who was depicted realistically, neither inflating nor sensationalizing the occurrences, nor in any way implying that it’s a character flaw or something of which to be ashamed. A someone who deals with anxiety and panic attacks in real life, this was incredibly heartening to me. This story is a thriller, a mystery, a suspense novel, a love story, and a trial of faith all rolled into one incredibly gripping book that held my fascination from intense beginning to devastatingly thrilling end.

  • ALL THE ELEMENTS OF A GREAT MYSTERY

The Inn at Ocean’s Edge is a fantastic mystery story. This book caught my attention right away in the beginning and kept it throughout the whole book. Colleen Coble writes with authority about Hotel/Inn operations in all aspects, police procedures, farming berries, combat, using weapons, and Marine Biology especially with Orcas. I have to say that I learned some interesting things in this book about Orcas, their family setting, and how they live. It was so cool!

  • NOT MY FAVORITE…

I have mixed feelings about this book. It really started out too fast for me. I never got to ‘know’ the main character so to me she was just this young lady REALLY struggling with trying to find out all that had happened to her when she was young.

There’s a lot going on in this book and rather than feel at peace like everything was resolved at the end I was kind sad that so many bad things had happened. Even though there is a bit of a happy ending, it’s not really.

Colleen Coble combines a decades old mystery, twisting suspense and sweet romance in her newest contemporary novel, The Inn at Ocean’s Edge, book 1 in the Sunset Cove series. If you like romantic suspense set in unique locales, you are going to love this book. Filled with great characters, complex plotting and a setting to die for (no pun intended!), this book is a recommended read!

  • THE INN AT OCEAN’S EDGE REVIEW

The Inn at Ocean’s Edge is an edge of your seat thriller that keeps you guessing until the author wants you to know. The plot is edgy and full of twists and turns that keeps this novel moving at a fast pace. From the very first chapter, the reader understands that something is amiss and with each chapter, a new layer is added that makes the reader want to keep reading until the end.

Coble’s characters are varied and interesting. She uses them to make you rethink what constitutes a family. Coble also creates tension between the characters to make the plotline interesting and suspenseful. The only drawback to this novel is keeping track of the different settings and where they are in relation to each other. I found myself wishing I had a map of the area to look at as I followed the plotline.

If you like suspenseful thrillers, you will love The Inn at Ocean’s Edge. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

  • GREAT SUMMER BEACH/POOL READ

The Inn at Ocean’s Edge reminded me of a V.C. Andrews novel. In a good way :). It didn’t have the graphic depravity & major human faults, though. The connection of Claire to Luke was heart-warming and really necessary to kind of “redeem” Claire’s past, if you will.

The plot itself was excellent. I’m usually pretty decent at coming up with plot twists or guessing the ending but this one caught me completely broadside. She did a fabulous job of revealing information very deliberately so as to make it a surprise. Ms. Coble also did a great job with the setting on the island and it really made me want to visit.

If you are looking for a good suspense novel that won’t mess with your head (in a bad way), The Inn at Oceans Edge would be an excellent start.

  • BLOG TOUR: THE INN AT OCEAN’S EDGE BY COLLEEN COBLE

She is quickly becoming a go to author for me when I am looking for an intriguing, yet clean romantic suspense to curl up with. This book definitely fit that description. I really enjoyed it and finished it very quickly.

This one is a hard book to review without giving away any of the key points of the plot. I’ll just say that it sucked me right in and kept me on my toes. About halway through the book, I thought I had it all figured out, only to find out I was wrong in the end. You all know I love when that happens.

I found the resolution shocking and truly felt badly for Claire. one decision can impact several lives forever. I liked how Claire’s faith kept her grounded throughout her ordeal. The romance between Claire and Nate was subtle, but very sweet.

This book was a surprise. I have read several suspense novels by Colleen Coble and I am used to a good read from her, but I feel she surpassed anything she ever wrote with this novel.

I really enjoyed the many twists and turns the plot took and the surprises I encountered as the plot thickened. I thought the author did a nice job of showing the turmoil that lies and deceptions can create in a family when the truth is withheld or ignored. The suspense built with each event to a thrilling climax. The only negative I have is that some of the events that take place in chapters 39 and 40 were not realistic in my opinion. I don’t want to be specific so I don’t spoil what happens. I still had fun reading and trying to solve the mystery and look forward to the next book in the series.

This is my first Colleen Coble read, and I really enjoyed the writing style. The characters are well developed, the dialogue moves smoothly, and the plot is fast moving. Claire is a strong, independent, and sympathetic protagonist, and I really liked her relationship with Luke.

I also loved the setting of a coastal inn in Maine. The descriptions in this book are vivid and evocative. I love books with a seaside setting, and found that very appealing in this novel.

Claire is very likable – she is very confident, which is why being struck by a panic attack upon her arrival at the Inn. When Claire meets Luke, the mystery starts to build, and it becomes very difficult to tease out who the real bad guy is. The book takes a lot of twists and turns, and it’s a fun to try and figure out how the murder investigations fit together and exactly what happened to Claire, and who is trying to kill her.

  • REVIEW: THE INN AT OCEA’S EDGE

I didn’t want to do the dishes. I didn’t want to go to bed. I didn’t want to finish this story. This is an absolutely intense book. Three stories twist in and out of each other in deceit and tragedy. I enjoyed the intrigue that began at the very first page. There is a depth to the main characters that is sometimes surprising. There are hints throughout to “who dunnit” but I couldn’t figure them out. So many people were hiding things, and there were so many things to hide! Somethings seemed unfathomable. A little honesty would have gone a long way to diffuse the entire situation! Of course, then we wouldn’t have had a this delicious little tidbit of a book to read. ~smile~ I read this over just a few days. That only happens when the book really holds my attention.

I liked Claire. I liked Luke. I liked most of the characters. I liked the surprise hero of the story. I liked this story. If you like suspense books, without too much crime detail, I think you will, too. It was the quickest read I’ve had in ages. It was too good!

The first book of this series lives up to Colleen Coble’s reputation for a great mystery novel filled with suspenseful situations, intrigue and murder. Colleen gives enough information to get your mind working to try to solve the puzzle in the story without giving away important plot information too early. She really is a master at weaving together a good plot and tying all the loose ends up at the end. I’ve really enjoyed reading her novels and look forward to seeing more from her in the future.

  • THE INN AT OCEAN’S EDGE

I have been an avid fan since I read my very first book by Colleen Coble. To date, I have read most, if not all of her novels with intentions to do so if I happened to miss any of them. I can honestly say that The Inn at Ocean’s Edge may just be the best one yet.

In The Inn at Ocean’s Edge, Coble weaves a story with so many unique twists and turns that one could easily get lost along the way. I loved the way she launched yet another surprise just when I thought I had everything all figured out. As always, the story is beautifully written with complex relationships that are challenged by traumatic circumstances but often tempered by faith and forgiveness. The pages are filled with action, drama, danger, romance, and suspense with an added plus of a baby orca that plays a major role in the story.

  • REVIEW: THE INN AT OCEAN’S EDGE BY COLLEEN COBLE

The book grabbed my attention with the first page when a girl witnesses a murder. Who wouldn’t be intrigued after that? But by 2/3 of the way into the book I was predicting the end. I can’t say much more without giving it away. So while it’s a very captivating mystery with a twist and turn or two u can probably predict the end and the romance that ensues. I had a gew “gag me” moments when a certain character starts calling another character a pet name/term of endearment in every conversation after a WEEK of knowing them. Do people really do that? Maybe it’s just me :-P. Overall, good book, and I would read more by this author.

Coble kept us constantly guessing about what was going to happen next. We really had no solid idea of who Claire is until well past halfway through the book. I really enjoyed the author’s use of suspense and felt she wielded it powerfully. The multiple murders that are investigated throughout the story were also engrossing. It was interesting to find out how they were tied together and what they may have had to do with Claire’s past.

I always love the books Colleen Coble comes out with. She is great at weaving mystery with romance and creating interesting stories to keep us turning the pages. I think this has been my favorite Colleen Coble book yet! rom the very first pages we are on a journey with Claire as she tries to figure out exactly what happened to her so many years ago. We get to discover bits and pieces of her past as she discovers them herself and I think that makes this book even more interesting. I also really liked the aspect of Kate’s relationship with Luke and him trying to figure out what happened to his mom. • BOOK REVIEW: “THE INN AT OCEAN’S EDGE” BY COLLEEN COBLE

No one could ever say that this book is slow! In her first morning at the hotel, Claire Dellamare has a panic attack, stumbles upon a baby orca rescue, meets her future love, learns she disappeared mysteriously for a year when she was a child, witnesses a murder and is knocked unconscious by the killer. Wow! This all sets the stage for plenty of mystery to come. How are these events linked to Luke’s missing mother? Why doesn’t Claire remember where she was for a year? As more evidence piles up, including the bones of several murder victims, Claire’s life becomes more and more endangered. This story kept me guessing until the very end, and I was genuinely surprised by the killer’s identity. If you like fast-paced action and mystery, you’ll enjoy this book!

  • THE INN AT OCEAN’S EDGE

THE INN AT OCEAN’S EDGE is the first book in Ms. Coble’s new series, A Sunset Cove. I enjoyed getting to know Luke and Claire. Claire is a typical rich girl who had it all handed to her on a silver platter—on one hand. On the other, she is not at all as she seems. Luke is kind and loving, but suspicious and firm. I loved how he believed whole-heartedly in Claire even though he just met her.

At first I thought this book might be somewhat predictable. I figured out who-dun-it fairly early on. But then Ms. Coble threw unexpected twists in the plot. I had to keep reading to find out what really happened… and what it might mean for Claire and Luke.

The Inn at Ocean’s Edge has an amazingly well crafted plot. The Inn at Ocean’s Edge is full of mystery and suspense. Claire goes missing as a child and when she’s returned, she doesn’t remember anything. Now an adult, she’s having flashbacks no one in her family wants to talk about.

Luke does want to talk, his mother went missing around the same time but Claire doesn’t have answers. I loved the desperation between the two of them.

I thought this was a great read that clearly shows the fallout from sinful choices. I wish Kate had been developed with a little more dimension but overall that didn’t take away from the mystery that kept me turning the pages.
