The Proposal at Siesta Key (Avon Inspire, May 2015)

A young Amish woman, yearning for freedom, crosses paths with a handsome Mennonite celebrity in a deeply moving tale of friendship and self-discovery—the second installment in the unforgettable New York Times bestselling author’s new Amish Brides of Pinecraft series.

Penny Troyer rarely disobeys her parents. In the years since her sister’s tragic death, they’ve wanted nothing more than to keep her safe…even if it means never leaving the house.

But tonight, she’s bending the rules because Michael Knoxx, the most famous member of The Knoxx Family Singers, a traveling Mennonite Evangelical family —is scheduled to speak. Penny has heard of Michael—how he lost part of his leg in a terrible accident and uses the experience to inspire others—and knows she must meet him. So, for the first time ever, Penny stands up to her parents and goes out on her own.

Though he speaks about living life to the fullest, Michael knows he needs to take his own advice. Life on the road is grueling and Michael wants to slow down, to rest…to perhaps meet someone who sees him as a man, not just a celebrity. So when a twist of fate allows him the chance to stay a little longer in Pinecraft, Michael knows God is showing him a new path, especially when he discovers how much he and Penny Troyer have in common.

But new friendships can’t stop time. Soon, Michael’s time in Pinecraft will be over and he’ll be back on the road. Her time with Michael has brought her happiness, but will she be able to follow her heart? Or will she be faced with the one thing she’s sure she’ll never have the courage to do?

  • A BLOG TOUR AND BOOK REVIEW

It is another fantastic read from prolific author, Shelley Shepard Gray. Once again, Gray brings you into the world of the Amish with a wondefully described book, delightful characters, and twists and turns, with a little romance thrown into the mix. This is the second book, in The Amish Brides of Pinecraft, and I truly felt it was a delightful, quick read. Perfect for any road trip, sitting on the beach or even reading on your deck with a glass of cold lemonade this summer. Penny and Michael were such great characters, and I look forward to reading book 3, when it is released.
I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up.

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’ BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY

The Proposal at Siesta Key is the second in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft Series by Shelley Shepard Gray. While I did read the first book, you don;t have to read the entire series to enjoy just one of the books. I love reading Amish books as they a light easy read and a nice change of most of the books I read. This particular series is staged in Pinecraft, Florida. This is a perfect summer book to read at the beach or pool.

The Proposal at Siesta Key is about a young Amish woman who has been sheltered most of her life after the horrible death of your older sister. Her parents are afraid to let her go but Penny is determined to fight back and live life. She goes and gets a job at a local bed and breakfast and falls in love all in one summer.

  • GREAT SUMMER READ!

What a fun summer read~ I am enjoying this book. It grabbed my attention from the very first line.

Penny and her family live in a adorable little town called Pinecraft, Florida. I liked that the author gave a map in the front cover. It looks like a perfect place to be. Yet~ Penny has been a sheltered young woman for way to long and is busting out at the seams. A tragedy in the family taking the life of her sister in a horrific way leaves her parents smothering her to death. She just has to break free and live. This book is all about her having the courage to break free from the control and fear that her loving but over protecting parents have placed her under. Penny decides it is time for all of them to move on in healing.

She goes to work for a Bed and Breakfast and finds herself caring for a popular Mennonite singer/evangelist. He is a little arrogant and high thinking of himself. She is trying to not be smitten in the least. Only time together turns the tide and they become more than friends. The only problem is that he will be leaving soon. Will she have even more courage to follow her heart?

I really enjoyed seeing how this book deals with fear in a healthy and healing way. I was given this book in exchange for my honest review. Although this is the second book in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft~ it was not necessary for me to read the first book. Great Book!

  • LIGHT AND EASY RED

In the second book of the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series, Penny is learning to live after a lifetime of being sheltered. Her sister was kidnapped and killed when she was young and her parents haven’t let her out of their sight since! Now that she is in her 20’s, she’s ready to get a job and meet some people. When she is hired to care for a missionary “celebrity”, Penny finds herself falling for him.

Shelley’s books about the Amish life in Pincraft, Florida are interesting and easy reads. There isn’t really any depth to them, but they are a great book to pick up for a relaxing, no-brainer afternoon. The characters are cute and the plots are simple.

Thank you, Litfuse, for sending this book my way. As always, this is my honest opinion. Here’s to many more.

  • REVIEW: `THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’

The Proposal at Siesta Key opens with author Shelley Shepard Gray’s depiction of Pinecraft, Fl. The reader is destined to feel at home while following the places portrayed in the novel. It is the second in a series, “Amish Brides of Pinecraft, Fl.”
This second novel had some unexpected twists and turns I was not expecting. Shelley Gray considers some serious issues; such as death of a loved one. However, I believe, in some ways, this novel could help heal the reader of inner turmoil from the past. This is my opinion, not necessarily that of the author.

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’

Having previously read a few Shelley Shepard Gray books in the past I was excited to get my hands on this one. I have been reading a lot of Amish fiction lately, yet this book still stands out to me. Penny was such an enjoyable character to follow along with. I really enjoyed reading about her and being a bit of introvert myself I found myself pleasantly relating to her initial shyness, especially around Michael. I really liked how she chose to love him for who he is and didn’t let his disability get in the way. The courage these two display is beautifully portrayed and all of the side characters are every bit as enjoyable to read about. I absolutely loved the Inn! If you are an Amish fiction fan, a Shelly Shepard Gray fan or just looking to try something new I really recommend this book!

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’ BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY

I enjoyed reading this Amish fiction book. This is the second book in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series but can stand alone. I loved the setting. Pinecraft is a special area in Sarasota, FL, where the Amish go to vacation. The beach nearby is Siesta Key. The main characters in this book are Penny Troyer and Michael Knoxx. She is Amish while he is Mennonite. They meet walking down the street and at his concert. He is part of the Knoxx family and they travel around giving speeches and concerts. He lost part of his leg in an accident and uses his story to inspire others. Penny is grown but stuck at home being treated like a child by her parents. After losing a sibling when she was younger her parents are overprotective and will not let her do anything. Penny and Michael have a chance to get to know each other better when Michael has to have surgery and is stuck in Pinecraft for weeks. Penny gets hired at the local bed and breakfast and ends up helping take care of him. They develop a close friendship and talk about a lot of different things. I like how he tells her to make the most of each day. The characters and plot were unique and well developed. It held my attention from the beginning and I could not stop reading. It was a somewhat light but good book. And I really want to go to Pinecraft now. Highly Recommend both books in the series. This is one of my favorite authors and I have read most of her books.

  • AWESOME READ

As I have said before, Shelley is on my top 5 favorite authors and she has done it again!!!
Just like the previous novel, I really enjoyed the story! This book has certainly kept my interest into reading to see what happens next!
I enjoyed the strong friendship that developed between Michael and Penny from their basic day-to-day interactions. I also liked how each character began to notice the little details about one another as they forged their friendship and it began to blossom into a mutual attraction. Their raw emotions being shared and honestly painful stories brought both of the characters closer as trust began to form in their bond. This gives me hope that I may find someone with whom I can be completely honest with and share my innermost concerns and feelings.
While The Proposal of Siesta Key dealt with some heavy topics, all were treated with dignity and respect and were not over-dramatized. Michael’s mission and Penny’s new found freedom were the main parts of the story, as was their friendship. All in all it was a light-hearted read that made me want to visit Pinecraft again, just so that I might have the chance to run into a few of the “characters”again!
If you enjoy Amish romance I would recommend this series to you!

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’ BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY | BOOK REVIEW

This was a fantastic book in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series by Shelley Shepard Gray. The characters are the type of characters that you can relate to. I will admit that Michael grated on my nerves just a little. I liked him by the end but he came off a bit arrogant at first.

I love how quickly these books read. They have a nice flow to them that keeps the reader engaged. Also, though this is the second book int he series, I felt that it could have easily been read as a stand-alone.

I feel like the author has done a wonderful job with describing the community of Pinecraft. I feel like I have a good handle on the location of homes and places. That helps me visualize things while I’m reading this series.

    Overall, five stars.

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’ BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY

The Proposal at Siesta Key by Shelley Shepard Gray is the second book in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series. This is a stand-alone novel but, I think you will enjoy this novel even more if you read the first book in the series.

I love being introduced to new characters and at the same time touching bases with characters from previous novels. It’s like seeing and old friend you haven’t seen in a while.

At the same time the whole Pinecraft, FL makes a unique setting for the Amish and Mennonite community as it’s like being in a whole new world among them within the pages of these novels. It’s very refreshing.

Shelley Shepard has an amazing ability to make the characters so real. The things that happen to the characters are realistic and their reaction to situations is also heartfelt as it’s probably the same thing many of us would do in the same situation.

Penny a 24yr old is an interesting character and had a lot of heartfelt depth to her. She has been so sheltered since the tragic death of her sister. Penny wants freedom to be who God intended her to be and to find her way and future outside in the community without her parents smothering her and treating her like a child.

Michael a very humble young man who, despite his circumstances has overcame a lot in his young life. The relationship that him and Penny build is fun and something that both of them needed without ever realizing it or even seen it coming. They both just sensed that they needed more and were growing dissatisfied with their lives.

Then I have to mention two characters from the last book in the series. Beverly and Eric and what happens to them was something I didn’t see coming in the first book. It was great to get acquainted with these two characters again.

I didn’t want the story to end. Now the hard part is waiting for the third book in the series!

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’ BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY

Gray has penned a most unusual journey to Amish love! I’ve never read a story of Amish and Mennonite people in such a predicament, but Gray sets the scene perfectly. Even though Michael and Penny find themselves out of their elements, you can relate to to their feelings with Gray’s colorful and detailed descriptions.

This isn’t your typical Old Order Amish story, and if that’s what you want, this book may not be for you. If you’re willing to dive into a creative, modern story with people of strong faith, however – then The Proposal at Siesta Key is a must-read.

  • ANOTHER GREAT AMISH READ

This story will take you to Florida, where the skies are sunny, the days are warm…but not everything is quite as rosy as the weather. At least not for Penny and Michael.

You will find 2 people who have some changes in their future…the question is, how will the change affect them, and those they love?

Another wonderful Amish story from Shelley Shepard Gray, she never disappoints.

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’

This was a very easy read and very predictable with a lot of fluff to it. I wasn’t quite as into it as some of Ms. Gray’s previous books as it just really did not have much depth to it. Not that it wasn’t an easy and decent read but at times the characters seemed distant and I really did not get involved in the story like I like to. I received a copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion.

  • A GREAT STORY

The Proposal at Siesta Key is a wonderful book, part of a wonderful series. Shelley Shepard Gray writes with much authority on The Amish, Pinecraft, Florida and the areas around it, Mennonite faith, and traveling. Her knowledge of Pinecraft, Florida and the areas around it is amazing. She is truly an expert on this community. As I read this book, I felt like I was there in Pinecraft and Siesta Key experiencing the sights along with our characters. Such vivid and detailed descriptions. As I stated, I read the first book in this series so it was great to see the sights from the first book and to see new sights. Also I enjoyed meeting new characters/friends but also getting details about my “old friends” from the last book. So many fun and interesting characters make up this book. I enjoyed all of them. This book addressed violence in an Amish Community, which isn’t common to read about in Amish Series and it was a reminder that bad things happen to everyone, no one is immune, but what makes it different is in how we respond to it.

This review is for the book The Proposal at Siesta Key by Shelley Shepard Gray. This is the second book in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series. I have read the first book in this series, and I really enjoyed it. The community of Pinecraft is a bit different from other Amish communities you may read about in other Amish fiction books. My Thoughts On The Book: Loved! Loved! Loved this book, but then I have yet to find a Shelly Gray book I did not love. She has such a way with her characters and her story lines that make you feel as if you have fallen smack dab in the middle of the story. This story feels like Florida and makes you want to go there immediately. I truly believe that this was my absolute favorite to date. Although this is the second book in the series Amish Brides of Pinecraft you don’t miss out on anything. Penny and Michael are the best characters ever and I was sad when the book ended. From the moment I began reading I never put this book down. This is definitely a 5 star book and if you are a fan of Amish life/romance books this is a must read.

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’ # 2 BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY AND GIVEAWAY

I enjoyed reading about Penny’s story with her new job at the Inn and taking care of her new friend Michael. I felt sad to hear about Penny’s childhood and the tragic events that happened to her and her family. I liked reading how courageous Penny was in making more life decisions and her friendships with others.

Michael was a famous Mennonite man who traveled with his family sharing his story about his faith and his accident that cost him his leg. He ends up in Pinecraft Florida where he meets Penny and others who touch his life.

This was a great heartwarming story that I really enjoyed reading! I would definitely recommend book 1 and book 2 of this series. If you purchase this book you can also read a sneak peek of book 3 at the end of the book.

Once again, Shelley Shepard Gray has won me over – with another Amish Brides of Pinecrest story…

I love how Shelley creates wonderful, true-to-life characters that I can identify with. She shows the reader that everyone has issues; it’s how her Amish folk handle their problems – with faith and hope – that make a difference to me.

The Proposal at Siesta Key revolves around the Orange Blossom Inn, as well as the community of Pinecrest. You’ll meet Penny Troyer, a grown woman who still lives at home with her parents, and Michael Knoxx, who travels with his family, speaking to groups and witnessing of Jesus’ love.

If you read the first book in the series, then you’ve already met Beverly Overholt, who runs the inn. Beverly received some disturbing news in The Promise of Palm Grove…

In this book, Ms. Gray writes in her usual gifted way about Penny Troyer, a young Amish girl who has been sheltered by her parents her whole life. She decides to attend an evangelical meeting of the Knoxx family. Michael Knoxx lost part of his leg in an accident and spends his time giving inspirational talks along with his family. Michael and Penny both want something more out of life then they currently are experiencing. At the expense of disappointing their families, both decide that now is the time to spread their wings and have a life of their own. It is heart-warming that they find that they can do this together. Shelley Shepard Gray’s Amish stories are always an enjoyable read — and The Proposal at Siesta Key is no exception.

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’

There is something so appealing about the characters that Gray develops. As I read the book, I couldn’t help but feel a connection to them. Both Penny and Michael have experienced a loss in their lives, but for each not only was the loss very different but also the way that they and their family coped with the loss. As readers, we get to watch them journey further in the healing process as they meet and grow close to each other, developing friendship and later realizing it is something more.

I liked that the book was more about the story’s characters and what was going on in their lives, rather than being about them being Amish. The themes of love, loss, and healing are universal, the fact that the characters are Amish seemed to be more of a backdrop for the story than a focus.

  • BOOK REVIEW: ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’ BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY

Penny and Michael are interesting characters. Penny has been very sheltered due to the tragic death of her sister, so her defiance of her parents is not extreme — she just wants a normal life with friends and fun outings. I could sympathize both with Penny’s parents’ need to protect her and Penny’s need to move on from the tragedy that has defined their lives. Michael has also been shaped by tragedy, but in a different way. The loss of his leg led his family to reach out to inspire others to build new lives after tragedy. It’s no wonder that Penny is drawn to Michael and his family. But Michael’s life isn’t all roses, either. Thus, it is fascinating to see Penny and Michael attempt to meet in the middle of their lifestyles to come to a new way of life that works for both of them.

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’

I love reading this book because it is so entertaining and relaxing. I also loved reading more about the characters in this little Amish community in Pinecraft. It was fun watching Penny break out on her own and blossom into a caring and beautiful young woman, and the apple of the handsome Michael Knoxx’s eye. And I appreciate the way Ms. Gray weaves Trusting God and living the Christian life in the everyday lives of the characters. This is a fantastic read, and one you will truly enjoy!

  • BOOK REVIEW: ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’ BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY

Welcome back to Pinecraft. Penny is a highly sheltered young lady that wants to break free and be an independent person. Michael is an Evangelist and a disabled person who just wants to be seen as a person. When these two come together whole new worlds open up for them. Ms. Gray has given us real people in Penny and Michael and watching them grow individually and then together is a real treat. The Proposal At Siesta Key is an exceptional story with exceptional characters that you care for and so want them to get together.

  • LITFUSE PUBLICITY: ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’ (AMISH BRIDES OF PINECRAFT BOOK 2) BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY

I’ve been finding that I don’t enjoy romance books much anymore – I think that comes from losing my husband and no longer having my own romance – but this book, for some reason, was different and had me feeling much more than the romance that was brewing between Penny and Michael. I now would love to take a trip with my children to Florida, in the fall or winter, and visit Pinecraft – I want to walk the quaint streets that Penny does and feel inspired to live life, the life the Lord wants us all to lead. While firstly being an Amish romance book it was even more so than that – it was truly inspirational, and for one who does not like tropical climates, to have me feeling the sand between my toes, smelling the ocean and feeling the sun on my face.

  • ALWAYS OVER MUCH TOO SOON! BUT THERE IS HOPE THAT MORE IS COMING SOON!

(Sigh!!) That is what I do whenever I read any of Shelley Shepard Gray’s Amish novels. First, because they are so exceptionally well written that I simply forget where I am for the duration of the time it takes me to read it (in one sitting), and the other because I am so sad that it’s over too soon! One day I can only hope to make a visit to the Amish town of Pinecraft and view the places Shelley describes in her book at the conclusion. What a charming place it must be where the pace of life is much slower and a bit more simple than the rat race most of us face. Truly it is no wonder so many come to visit and end up making Pinecraft their own home!

I am loving this series and I am happy it is releasing quickly, because I am not a patient person. I do want to say, these books really are not stand alone novels. Knowing the back story of the previous books will be key to really enjoying each of the new books. I mentioned I am not patient and there is a character development I am itching to see finalized. Normally I am bad about loosing interest when a story is left open, but I am impatiently waiting for book 3. Great read. 4.5 stars from this reviewer.

  • RETURN TO ORANGE BLOSSOM INN

Back in Siesta Key Florida and the Orange Blossom Inn, we meet a very sheltered Amish woman, about to spread her wings. She has been very protected by her parents and now at 24 years of age she has decided to venture out into the world, much to Mom and Dad’s chagrin.
A really good and fast read and I am hoping for more of these visits at the Inn.

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’ REVIEW

The Proposal at Siesta Key is a sweet, easy story that I could read over and over again. Shelley drew me in right from the start and I wanted to keep flipping page after page to see how the story unfolds. I can not wait for the next installment of the series.

The relationships built throughout this book really draw you in. As a parent, I can relate to Penny Troyer’s parents who want to keep her safe and close. Yet, you can understand Penny’s desire to be free and make relationships of her own. I can also relate to Michael and his disability. He struggles with the desire to please his family, who have been through so much, and his desire to be free. Michael wants to please God as well and it is sometimes difficult to know what plan God has for you. Shelley does a wonderful job creating depth in these characters and the tension she adds makes you want to keep reading.

The Proposal at Siesta Key is very encouraging and full of wisdom. Shelley has a phenomenal way of interweaving the truth of “life is not easy” while also reminding us to cherish each moment we have because we can never get that moment back.

I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars. Grab your coffee and banana nut muffin and join me in Florida at the Orange Blossom Inn! This is one book you will want to read again!

I am enjoying getting to know the characters in each story, but especially the main character, Beverly. Will she end up with Eric and will he become a mennonite or will she become English? In this book, Penny and Michael both are both affected by circumstances that keep them from living their lives to the fullest. It was good to see that each one was considerate of their family without being disrespectful while trying to find their own path in life.

When one thinks about where the Amish have established communities, you rarely think of Florida. However, there is a thriving Amish community in Pinecraft which is located in Sarasota, Florida.

I love writers who can bring the region that they are writing about the life. Shelley Shepard Gray is one of those writers. While I was reading The Proposal at Siesta Key, I felt like I had been transported there.

The Proposal at Siesta Key is the second book in the series but it is easily a stand alone. It is a good clean romance that will warm your heart.

  • ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’ {BOOK REVIEW}

Some moments that made me giggle definitely included when Eric’s girlfriend ran out of the Inn. The way she vividly described the scene made me laugh! I cried learning why Penny was so sheltered and secluded and I cringed learning how Michael lost part of his leg. All of the characters have something that they must overcome and come to terms with. Including the Inn’s owner(or manager?)’s niece who shows up unexpectedly.

You’re going to love these characters as much as I do. Trust me when I say this.

I’m not sure how much of the story to tell you, but both Penny and Michael have to stand up to their family with what they want to happen in their lives whatever that may mean. It’s a great learning experience for them both and hopefully the reader will take away a lesson or two.

  • AMISH IN FLIP-FLOPS!

I have read two or three Amish books lately with a setting in Pinecraft, Florida. It has been both eye-opening and refreshing to read about Amish and Mennonite life there. I can just see the young people in their traditional attire walking around in flip-flops! Shelley Shepard Gray takes the freedom of the beach a step further by featuring a character who is somewhat of a Mennonite celebrity. I can honestly say that is not something I would have ever imagined.

Both Penny and Michael have experienced tragedy in their lives so when they become acquainted, they immediately sense a bond. Michael is especially attracted to Penny’s innocence and caring personality. At an age when most people their age are already married with children, Michael and Penny have not had a chance for courtship or love because of family expectations. They meet at a time when each of them has grown dissatisfied with their lives and are yearning for independence.

  • AS SWEET AS THE COVER!

The Proposal at Siesta Key was as sweet as the cover, just as you might expect from author Shelley Shepard Gray. Actually, it surprised me because I tended to side with the parents, not with the young people in the book. This contradiction made me wonder if I’m turning into an old fogey. I liked the fact that the book is different than the traditional Amish romance. Since the characters are located in an English tourist town, it made the whole story seem more “normal.” There were some loose ends that I wanted to see tied up by the final page. Hopefully Shelley will bring those characters back in future stories!

  • REVIEW + GIVEAWAY: ‘THE PROPOSAL AT SIESTA KEY’

Reading a Shelley Shepard Gray story is pure pleasure, and I have eagerly anticipated The Proposal at Siesta Key. This is technically Amish fiction with strong romantic elements, but its strength is in characterization, relationships, and a vivid sense of place. Penny Troyer expressed a gem of godly wisdom when she said, “Sometimes, the hardest path to take was the only path worth walking on.” That reminds me of another nugget I once heard, “You’ve got to get out of the boat to walk on water.” As a person who loves her comfort zone, I can nonetheless testify that those expressions are so true of life. I enjoyed the easy reading of The Proposal at Siesta Key and recommend it to fans of character-driven stories with sweet romance.

Over the years, I have read many Amish and Mennonite romance novels and they do get a bit predictable, but Shelley magically avoids all the typically cliches to give us readers a wonderful romantic novel. Overall, The Proposal at Siesta Key is a fast-paced romance that I couldn’t put down until I read the entire novel.

We all deal with life’s hard blows differently. In The Proposal at Siesta Key, Penny’s family deals with their loss by wanting to keep Penny close by. When she has the chance to break free, even for just an evening, Penny’s life starts to go down an unexpected path.
I thought that this book was interesting! I’ve noticed it in some of her other books, that the secondary characters are well developed, and I like that she brings back characters from the other book/books in a series, making it like you are a visiting friend and catching up on all the happenings. This book is a sweet story that also does a great job of dealing with loss and moving past tragedy.

  • AMAZING AMISH BEACH READ!!

What is not to love in this Amish fiction book?! If you loved the first book in the series, then the obvious conclusion is that you will love the second book. It follows up with the same characters and you get to meet new ones. I knew as soon as I picked up the book and was reminded of where I left off in the first book. This book could stand on its own if you have read the other book in the series because it casually mentions the information that you might have missed in the first one but not so much that it is repeating everything if you have read it. That is a super hard balance to try to get which is only successful because the author had great writing.

She is now ready to “spread her wings” so-to-speak and defy her parents’ wishes enough to make her way in the world. As Penny grows into her new life, she meets Michael, an evangelist who tours with his family to speak about the Lord and to share his story of struggle and triumph. During Michael’s time in Pinecraft Penny and he grow close, as close as “friends” could be, but once Michael’s time comes to an end will they be able to take their budding relationship and turn it into something more? Or is just being friends all they’ll be able to agree too?

  • First of all, I have to say that I love the texture of the cover of this book, as well as the pastel hues. It’s a rough matte texture, and the oval on which the title is printed is slightly raised, and smooth. The story itself is well written, and enjoyable to read. It is easy for me to relate to each of the characters. And I like watching the growth in both Penny’s and Michael’s lives.

I will definitely plan to go back and read book one of the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series, and look forward to her next one in the series.

  • ANOTHER HIT FROM SHELLEY

I enjoyed this next installment in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series. It is fun getting to know the characters and watching them find their match. This book mixes both Amish and Mennonite cultures as Penny, who is Amish, goes against her parent’s wishes to get to know Michael, who is a Mennonite. Her parents just want to keep her safe and mean well. As always the author does a great job of describing the town of Pinecraft and all the scenes so you feel as if you are right in Florida with the characters. I like how Shelley’s writing just seems to flow making the book read quickly. She grabs you on page one and before you know you are so engrossed you lose a day and the book is over. If you are a fan of Amish fiction then this is a book for you. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
