Tried and True, Book One in the Wilde at Heart series.

Saddle up for a wildly fun ride with the Wilde sisters!

Kylie Wilde is the youngest sister–and the most civilized. Her older sisters might be happy dressing in trousers and posing as men, but Kylie has grown her hair long and wears skirts every chance she gets. It’s a risk–they are homesteading using the special exemptions they earned serving in the Civil War as “boys”–but Kylie plans to make the most of the years before she can sell her property and return to the luxuries of life back East.

Local land agent Aaron Masterson is fascinated with Kylie from the moment her long hair falls from her cap. But now that he knows her secret, can he in good conscience defraud the U.S. government? And when someone tries to force Kylie off her land, does he have any hope of convincing her that marrying him and settling on the frontier is the better option for her future?

Press Release

Mary Connealy invites readers to join her in celebration of new series

Author to host a live web event September 23 in honor of the release of Tried & True

Seattle: Best-selling author Mary Connealy invites readers to join her for what is sure to be a fun-filled evening on September 23 when she will be hosting a webcast. The live online event will celebrate the release of Connealy’s latest release, Tried & True (Bethany House Publishers/September 2, 2014/ISBN 0764211782/$14.99), which kicks off the new Wild at Heart series.

“The last webcast I had was so fun I can’t wait for another one,” Connealy quips. “I’m hoping to know what I’m doing a bit more so whoever is watching and listening to me isn’t primarily motivated to be kind . . . out of pity!”

During the live online event, Connealy will be talking to readers about Tried & True, previewing the next installment of the Wild at Heart series and answering reader questions. Throughout the hour, readers will have an opportunity to chat with other fans, answer trivia about the book and submit their own questions for Connealy to answer during the evening. A number of prizes will be given away to those participating in the discussion, including copies of Connealy’s books and gift cards. At the end of the webcast, the winner of a Kindle Fire HDX will be announced. The Kindle giveaway is being held in conjunction with the Tried & True blog tour being coordinated by Litfuse Publicity Group during the month of September.

“Whenever we ask our authors what their favorite part of the writing process is, they almost always say the same thing: connecting with readers,” reveals Noelle Buss, marketing manager at Bethany House. “In Mary’s case, that includes sharing a laugh with them too — or a whole webcast’s worth of laughs. Mary is one of those people who writes funny because she does funny really well in real life!”

Publishers Weekly’s review of Tried & True states, “Connealy’s style is fast-paced and spritely and sure to keep drawing fans.” This new series featuring the three Wilde sisters is sure to entertain. The sisters fought in the Civil War disguised as men, pressured into fighting by their father, who was crazed to avenge his son, their older brother, who died in battle. After all those years, without being revealed as women, they now qualify for homesteading. That is, as long as they don’t get caught!

The Tried & True webcast will be hosted on Connealy’s Facebook page, as well as the Litfuse Publicity Group website for readers without a Facebook account. Leading up to the webcast, readers can RSVP for the event and sign up to receive an email reminder. From September 8–25, fans can also enter the contest for the Kindle Fire HDX via the author’s Facebook page.

About Tried & True:

Saddle up for a wildly fun ride with the Wilde sisters!

Kylie Wilde is the youngest sister—and the most civilized. Her older sisters might be happy dressing in trousers and posing as men, but Kylie has grown her hair long and wears skirts every chance she gets. It’s a risk—they are homesteading using the special exemptions they earned serving in the Civil War as “boys”—but Kylie plans to make the most of the years before she can sell her property and return to the luxuries of life back East.

About the Wild at Heart series:

Three sisters fought in the Civil War disguised as men. They were pressured into fighting by their father who was crazed to avenge his son, their older brother, who died in battle. After all those years, without being revealed as women, they now qualify for homesteading, with their years of fighting reducing the years needed to prove up on a homestead.

Living in western Wyoming on 160 acres each, with their father owning the fourth homestead, they have a real nice spread tucked into the shadow of the Rocky Mountains, a remote area where they can live as they please and no one needs to notice the Wilde family is made up of three sisters.

They’ve gotten away with it by staying to themselves. They homesteaded in the fall, spent the Wyoming winter mostly snowed in, but now it’s summer and they’ve avoided town. They’ll have to spend their lives as hermits to get away with this.

And maybe they could do that, except they’ve stepped on the toes of a big rancher who wants to drive the nesters off his land. Tried & True will be followed by the release of Now & Forever and Fire & Ice.

  • TRIED & TRUE

Mary Connealy never disappoints. I absolutely adore her cowboy comedies. This one features Kylie, who fought in the Civil War and is using that service to gain the government exemption to her homesteaded property. Enter Adam Masterson, local land agent, who quite quickly discovers Kylie is no man and takes away her exemption. Off to a rocky start, these two are.

I’ve read all of Mary’s books. This one beats them all. It is a super fun read and enjoyable with romance and mystery thrown into the mix!

Tried and True has awesome characters! I totally fell in love with Kylie Wilde!

  • Mary is absolutely one of my favorite Christian Historical Fiction authors. Her books often make me laugh and cry and entertain me through out. For some reason this one took me a while to get into, but as of last night I couldn’t wait to finish it and I’m not sure how I’ll wait for Now and Forever, book #2 in the Wilde Sister trilogy. I’m in desperate desire to read about Mountain Man Indian raised Matt Tucker…

  • TRIED AND TRUE BY MARY CONNEALY

I am definitely excited to see where this series is going to go! I really enjoyed Book One in the new series, Wild at Heart. I like Mary Connealy. She writes with humor and some unexpected twists. I wouldn’t say the twists are earth-shattering and change the direction of the story, but it keeps the story interesting and the reader engaged. I thought I had it figured out a few chapters from the end, but was a little surprised that I was wrong!

The Wilde sisters are each interesting in their own ways. Their father has definitely not treated them like girls so they almost don’t even remember how to live like one. My favorite sister would have to be Shannon, with her dear love for sheep. The things she does for them were quite funny.

  • ANOTHER FUN READ FROM MARY CONNEALY

Mary Connealy’s books always have plenty of humor and hilarity, and in this one with a bunch of girls mingling with the boys undetected, there was bound to be plenty of that! Such a fun book! If you are a fan of very strong female characters then this book (and most by this author) is for you. Although she maintains some traditional values of the time period, Connealy’s female characters are always very strong and capable women.

Aaron is a great hero for Kylie, and it is fun to see the conflict between them work out. This story is a beautiful love story, but so much more than that! It is fun, and has such a sweet story of faith as well. If you enjoy historical Christian romance with a lot of personality, you won’t be disappointed.

This is probably my favorite book by Mary Connealy. Loved the characters and the plot! This is the first novel in a new series and as much as I liked her previous ones, this has been my most liked. The whole women in disguise aspect really makes it fun. The female heroines are just as feisty as ever and the men as brave and bold. If you like westerns/historicals that are comedy filled, this is one you need to pick up!

Mary Connealy is at it again with her unique and outspoken characters that tug at your heart strings. Kylie’s character really drew me into this book. From the very first page I was in awe once again by Mary Connealy’s natural ability to captivate her readers. Like a worm on a hook draws fish, I was caught and reeled in. This book has the perfect blend of humor, drama and sweet romance which is a Connealy trademark. She never disappoints her readers. Her attention to detail and the way she describes each scene in this book made it so enjoyable. Tried & True is a brilliant opener to what I feel will be an amazing series. I can’t wait to read Bailey’s and Shannon’s story! Very highly recommended to anyone that loves great, historical romance!

  • TRIED & TRUE BY MARY CONNEALY

Tried & True is an enjoyable read with a good story line plot that is very similar to stories of the women who actually disguised themselves as boys and or men to fight in the Civil War. Reading the novel, you learn the restrictive laws that were in place against women, directive pertaining to women landowners and those who profited from those rules and regulations. I recommend to historical fiction, drama, and historical romance book lovers to add on their list of novels to read next.

  • THIS ONE TRULY ROPED MY HEART AND TOOK ME FOR A WILDE RIDE OUT WEST!!!

Mary Connealy takes the readers right into the grit of living in the West. You can smell the pine from the woods, feeling the suddenly unexpected thunderstorm all the perfect backdrop to a wonderful heartwarming romance. By far one of my favorite genres to read but not everyone can pull it off so beautifully as Mary does. Her writing style is so rich, you don’t want to put this book down for one minute, which I inhaled in a matter of hours. I can’t wait to see how it plays out in the next book, even though I have feeling which sisters will wind up with who by the end of this amazing series.

  • ANOTHER HIT BY MARY CONNEALY!

Mary Connealy’s books have always been my favorite. I was excited to get to review this book and was not disappointed. I like how Kylie was a woman and proud of it. Yes, she was tough, as any western woman has to be, but she was still feminine. Kylie’s relationship with her sisters reminded me of my sisters and me, as their are three of us. I would be Kylie, even though I’m not the youngest.

“Tried and True” is full of surprises, twists and turns, humor, romance, and life lessons that we could all learn from. If you like romantic comedy’s with some suspense thrown in, you’ll love this book!

  • LIGHTHEARTED CHRISTIAN ROMANCE

I enjoyed Connealy’s trademark humor in this book. Her characters always employ a witty sense of sarcasm that makes the story more entertaining. The plot itself was interesting, although the events seemed to be stretched to fill pages in several cases. It was tempting to just pass off on a few chapters because the same predictable ideas were presented time and again. The comic relief kept things going, though. Saddle up and take a ride in this lighthearted Christian romance!

Three sisters, posing as men, fighting in a war…wow…it happened, but it’s something that you don’t stop to think about much in these modern times. I loved the spirit and the grit of all three sisters and really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed that even though the book takes place post Civil War, there are still themes that run through it that people can relate to today. How many folks have bullying parents or heck, even bullies that try to stop you from living out your dreams? I’m looking forward to the next book in this series. • The romance was great, if fast, as they fall for each other quickly, but fight it since they want opposite lives. There’s a lot of adventure and excitement, as someone is trying to get rid of Kylie and it’s unclear who. • TRIED & TRUE BY MARY CONNEALY #BOOKREVIEW AND #GIVEAWAY

This is the first book in the Wild at Heart Series and I can already tell I am going to enjoy reading everyone as they are released. I enjoy books where I learn something, in this book I now have a better perception of what the civil war did to the people who fought in it. I like how Aaron displayed a true act of friendship by refusing to shoot his friend and by telling him that he would help him hand his old life to God and begin anew. The dad in this story reminded me alot of my father in law and how he tried to control everyone around him. I am curious to see what transpires with him as the series continues.

  • TRIED & TRUE BY MARY CONNEALY

As is always the case with Mary Connealy, I absolutely loved this book! I have been excited to meet the Wilde sisters for awhile now and I am happy to announce that they lived up to my expectations! I loved how very different they all were and they reminded me a bit of the McClellan sisters from Mary’s Sophie’s Daughters series.
Kylie was such fun. I loved how determined she was to dress and act like a woman after fighting as a man in the war. She was a great mix of strong, able to handle almost anything, and feminine that made her a fantastic heroine.
Adam was also was great. I absolutely loved his reactions to discovering that Kylie and her sisters were masquerading as men and his complete disbelief that they had managed to deceive their fellow soldiers for several years.

  • REVIEW – TRIED AND TRUE BY MARY CONNEALY

While I was aware that there were a few women who dressed as soldiers and spies during the Civil War, I never heard of a three sisters doing this, but wait a minute – this is fiction. Similar to her other books, the author uses her great talents to craft believable descriptions of the 1800s, as well as creating memorable characters and interesting dialogue. The plot is definitely an original one and it never gets boring thanks the author’s wonderful storytelling. Overall, Tried and True is a well-written western-romance that voids all the typical cliches of the genre. Look for book two of the series, Now and Forever, arrivving in bookstores in June 2015!

  • TRIED & TRUE BOOK 1 OF WILD AT HEART SERIES BY MARY CONNEALY

I finished this book in one night because it was fun and easy reading!

I loved Kylie’s personality and spunk thru out the entire book. I also liked how she desired to be a homemaker and the woman of her home, instead of taking on a man’s role in the wild west. Aaron made a great hero in this book and I loved his interactions and protectiveness of Kylie and her family.

I would consider this book to be a clean, romantic, some drama, christian fiction. I plan to read more books by this author and hope to see more books about the Wilde sisters! “Tried and True” is book 1 of the “Wild at Heart” series and book 2 will be out in June 2015.

  • TRIED & TRUE

Tried & True is the 1st book in the “Wild @ Heart” Series! Mary Connealy writes fabulous cowboy comedy and this book showcases that so well!
Kylie & her sisters are some tough cookies and so very brave! I can’t even imagine living in the 1860’s, but these sisters serve in the Civil War (appearing as men), and then try their hand @Homesteading too, making it quite humorous at times!! Romance is in the air and adventures await the sisters! Tried and True is fabulous!! A great book to just sit down and escape for awhile! Thanks Litfuse for allowing me this complimentary book in exchange for my honest review!

  • FABULOUS START TO A PROMISING NEW SERIES

Featuring a spunky heroine, swoon-worthy hero, and twisty plot, Tried & True kicks off Mary Connealy’s new western series with a bang. Not only is the romance in Tried & True sweet, but the danger surrounding Kylie is handled deftly—it’s never over the top or unrealistic, and the resolution genuinely surprised me. These two factors combine to make a very satisfying novel. Now that I’ve read Kylie’s story, I can’t wait to dig into her sisters’ stories!

  • I absolutely LOVED this book. I couldn’t put it down. The story of Kylie and her sisters (Bailey and Shannon) living as boys serving in the Civil War & then as men claiming land out West & homesteading as young men (at the insistence of their father) was fascinating. While this book focuses on Kylie, what I truly loved was seeing how each of the young women handle the situation in their own ways. While Kylie was suffering… Bailey and Shannon seemed much more comfortable… even thriving in their lives.
The relationship with Kylie and Aaron? Perfect in my opinion. A great story about truly finding and understanding yourself once you find your perfect match.

The characters were what what made this book for me. I really liked Kylie and her sisters. They all had different personalities, were all unique and fun. I am hoping the rest of the series is about them, I really want to know more!
Aaron, the male lead was also very likable! I liked him right from the start. He did a few thing that I didn’t like but did understand why he did them.

There were lots of cute, fun scenes along with some suspense and mystery. All-in-all a very cute, clean, quick, and very enjoyable read!

I REALLY enjoyed it!!! This is a fantastic new series and I can not WAIT for the next two books! I really loved this whole concept and the way Mary ties everything together!!!! I was blown away by some changes and I LOVE the messages Mary weaves into the plot as it thickens!!! With shocking twists to drag you in further, to funny scenes that almost make your ribs hurt, to a few too sweet scenes for me, but they are filled with that sticky sweet kind of love. ;) Kylie and Aaron are made for each other! From the moment I read this book description I knew I REALLY wanted to read this book and I’m SO glad I did! Fabulous, entertaining read and everything I’ve come to expect from Mary!

  • TRIED AND TRUE BY MARY CONNEALY, A REVIEW

The story line was one I haven’t read before… beginning with women pretending to be men and fighting in the civil war and women heading west, staking claims and pretending to be men so they can get their war exemptions. All of these things were new to me, and I LOVE that! (I really didn’t know men in the war got a couple of years knocked off their homesteading requirements for years of service).
Anyhow, mixed in with this wonderful history lesson is a good amount of humor, mystery and romance. Sure the romance that comes to fruition is predictable from the beginning, but it’s fun seeing how they get there… we also get a peak at romances to come in future books.

Tried and True opens with a great scene that grabs your attention from the get-go and keeps it until the last page! I enjoyed this new twist of a western and loved reading about the characters. Kylie (I love this name!) was a very neat character and greatly developed, as was Aaron. Though a few scenes were entirely predictable, a few others were not and that was nice.

  • GOOD READ

I have read many of Mary Connealy’s books and she has a distinct way of writing in my opinion. This book is very similar to her other books with it’s characters and humor.

This book is a romance with a western flair and touch of humor. I love the front and back cover of this book, the colors are so pretty! I also like the idea about Kylie having fought in the Civil War as a soldier because it really did happen. I think this part of the story line could have been written better and I was a bit disappointed. I don’t think Kylie’s reaction to things or how she handles life is very realistic from someone who went to war. Her story is somewhat believable but the story line with the rest of the book was rather disappointing. Kylie’s character drove me nuts, but I really liked Aaron.

  • TRIED AND TRUE

Ms. Connealy is a very active writer, drawing the reader into the story. I felt sorry for Kylie and her sisters, forced to be “men” to replace the son their dad lost in the War between the States, and for losing the land/work exemption for serving in the Army. I enjoyed reading TRIED AND TRUE. Some of it is over the top and not very believable, but it is fiction . If you like historical romantic comedy, you will love TRIED AND TRUE. Recommended.

as soon as this book arrived I tried to sequester myself away with it and not be bothered. That of course did not work because I am the mommy of 9 children so I had to wait until they were asleep! Once sleep set in I sat on the kitchen floor(the only light in the house that won’t bother them) and read away. By the time I was done my legs and back ached but it was so worth it! I loved this book! I loved meeting Kylie and her sisters(brothers) and seeing how they think they’re good enough to fool all. You would think the battle that begins once she is seen as a woman would be between her and the land agent, but it’s not! He can protect her from land grabbers, he can protect her from his past? Exciting read and I of course love the twist at the end.

  • A GREAT NEW SERIES

Mary has a great start to another series that I am going to enjoy. I think it is cool that Kylie and her sisters served in the Civil War posing as men. How frustrating for them though that their exemption was going to be taken away from them because they are women. Mary did a good job of telling the story of the many women who served in the war under disguise through Kylie’s story. I felt really bad for Aaron going home to find his family all gone, I can’t imagine how that must have felt. It was fun watching the romance blossom between Aaron and Kylie. The characters were very well developed and strong which for me helps the story. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

  • REVIEW: TRIED & TRUE BY MARY CONNEALY PLUS A GIVEAWAY

Kylie Wilde is the heroine in Tried and True. It honestly took me a little time to warm up to Kylie and connect with her. But once I did, I really enjoyed seeing how she viewed the world. I like Kylie and her sweet heart toward Aaron as she begins to get to know him.

Aaron Masterson is running from some very painful memories. I love how strong and morally steadfast he is. I also love how he begins to fall in love with Kylie right from the very beginning.

There is danger in this book as well. There are a few different people who want Kylie off the land. It soon becomes clear that someone may want to hurt her, but who exactly is she in danger from?

  • TRIED AND TRUE BY MARY CONNEALY

I so enjoyed the first installment in this new series by Mary Connealy! There was action, adventure, romance, secrets, faith and family. Each of the three main female was unique and though often at odds with how they viewed life, they were tightly knit together. The choices the characters faced to love not hate, forgive instead of hold on to bitterness caused by the war were profoundly written in the story.
The sequel to Tried & True comes out next year, focusing on one of the other two sisters while having some of the characters from book one continue on in book two, Now and Forever. I look forward to that novel and the third one whenever it is released! Don’t miss these heartfelt and heart-pounding tales!
