Trust My Heart (Waterfall Press, October 2016)

Grant McAllister arrives in Murphy, North Carolina, with one aim: to sell his inherited property and leave as quickly as possible.

The big-city lawyer has no interest in his late, estranged grandparents or the dilapidated mansion he just acquired. After his high-profile divorce, he should be avoiding perky reporters, too. But Jami Carlisle is honest, funny, and undeniably appealing.

After breaking up with her safe-but-smothering boyfriend, Jami is determined to ace her first big assignment. A story about the McAllister estate is too intriguing to ignore—much like its handsome, commitment-phobic heir. Thanks to her digging, the pieces of Grant’s fraught family history are gradually fitting into place, but also upending all his old beliefs.

The two draw closer as they share their dreams, until misread signals and misunderstandings begin to test their trust. But in the unspoiled beauty of the Smoky Mountains, there’s healing and forgiveness to be found. And for Grant, this unplanned detour may be just what’s needed to finally guide him home…

Trust My Heart is the perfect book to pass a relaxing afternoon with a cup of coffee. I loved the small-town, charming setting and Carol brought it to life skillfully. I found myself rooting for Grant and Jami, and the story has just enough of a tinge of intrigue to keep the pages turning quickly. This is a quick and easy read that provides a satisfying story while weaving Christian truths throughout.

The characters are so fun and lovable. You become their friend(or really don’t like them) and cannot wait to find out what happens next. Or at least, that’s what happened to me! I loved this book and couldn’t wait to read the next page and the next. Also the adopting of two dogs. Swoon. Who doesn’t love dogs? And rescuing is amazing. That’s how we’ve gotten all of ours! Nothing not to like about this book.

Easy to read and follow, with lovely characters. The characters are full of life and depth, with well written personalities that draw you in. There’s just enough conflict to keep you interested, but not enough to make you feel anxious or stressed. A nice read for stressful periods to help calm you.

Trust My Heart by Carol Post is such a sweet and easy read. I enjoyed the characters, and love simple romances like this one. Although, I wish the book would have been longer. However, if you are looking for a good weekend read this book is for you. This is the first book I’ve read by Post, but it certainly will not be the last.

This clean, down-home romance has a made-for-TV feel. Jami, Sam, and Holly seemed as real as my own girlfriends. There was a lot going on behind the scenes, and sometimes I felt like I was on the emotional roller coaster that Jami and Grant kept riding. The trite theme of “opposites attract” was in play, but it worked well in this scenario. A hopeless romantic would cling to this book and finish it in one sitting!

I always like to read books by authors that are new to me. When I read the synopsis I thought this would be a good book to read. I found that Trust My Heart was a sweet romance. I liked that it was light and fast to read. The town was well described and made me feel like I wanted to be part of it. I think this would be a book many people would enjoy.

Whenever I get my hands on a romance title, I worry that it’s going to be the same ol’ thing. Girl meets boy- acts shy. Boy meets girl, acts like he doesn’t care. Both deny feelings and become annoying before a happy ending. That wasn’t the case with this one. Well, maybe it was… a little- but it was good!

I was drawn in because of the heroine’s name Jami. It is rare to see my own name in a book. After I decided that the book description sounded good, I wanted to read Trust My Heart! The two main characters, Grant and Jami, seemed like real people. Both had flaws (oh boy–don’t get me started on Grant!) that were realistic. However, they also had endearing qualities that were genuine and felt true to life. I love novels that draw on my emotions, especially if there is some humor, and Trust My Heart includes a good bit of humor!

I don’t read Christian romance novels very often (or romance novels of any kind actually), but I was intrigued by the plot line as the synopsis held a little bit of mystery within the book. Trust My Heart is a very sweet read; it holds layers of nostalgia, loss, hurt & sadness–but it also holds hope. And the combination of those elements helps bring depth to the conflicts, storylines, and character development–especially main characters Grant and Jami. For more information about the book, please read the author’s synopsis.

This was a light, sweet story that I read through quickly. It had elements of romance, some fun, quirky characters, a lot about faith and forgiveness, and a couple of contemplative thoughts. The characters, while not incredibly deep, were enjoyable to read about. The town setting was well described and fit well what I know about the town (I lived close to it years ago). I was a little frustrated with the immaturity of one of the characters, but sadly, there are people in the world like him. The elements of faith were deeply woven throughout the story, but didn’t come off as preachy. Overall, this was a cute little book that I think a lot of people will enjoy.

Trust My Heart is an impressive contemporary romance with the small-town setting of Murphy, NC vividly conveyed. A humorous secondary storyline involving Bernie and Hank, two quirky supporting characters, added depth. It has a solid spiritual foundation and is a story of forgiveness/second chances – and the characters reflect that, however much we might want to be on the receiving end of a second chance, the extending of it is not always easy. I would have liked more dialogue and action rather than so much dwelling on thoughts, but the story is enjoyable overall. I hope there will be more Murphy, NC stories in the future.

I was excited to have the opportunity to review a book set in my beloved state of North Carolina. Tucked away in the mountainous area of Western North Carolina, the areas surrounding and in Murphy conjur up beautiful sites that travelers and native North Carolinians totally love. Mountains, streams, rivers with white water rafting, picnics, beautiful trees and wonderful fresh air and great folks to get to know.

The supporting cast of characters really made the story.  Bernie’s antics were just hilarious, and Jami’s friends made great back-up people.  I’d love to read their stories, too.  With such colorful characters in the background and a strong setting, Trust My Heart puts me in mind of the Mitford books.  If you love Jan Karon’s work, definitely give Trust My Heart a try.

Trust My Heart by Carol J. Post is a story about Grant and Jami, two people who have been betrayed and hurt in the past as children, and neither has come quite to grips with what to do with the pain. Both have commitment and serious trust issues for different reasons. With the help of some busy bodies, Grant and Jami’s budding relationship hits some major road bumps along the way to true love. Miscommunication and not taking the time to have a real conversation had me wanting to smack these two upside the head. However, I felt for both of them and the author had me understanding where they were coming from. The misunderstandings added a depth to the story and to Grant and Jami characters that made their love journey all the richer by exposing the extent of their pain and the ending was all the sweeter because of the trials.

Jamie’s and Grant’s characters both were well drawn. Each is damaged and has flaws.
I really enjoyed the pacing, which was a nice mix of quickly transpiring events and slower contemplative scenes. And the setting is described beautifully. The novel is a really easy read — I read half of it in one setting. However, it doesn’t shy away from issues of faith and forgiveness.

  • ‘TRUST MY HEART’ BY CAROL J. POST

Trust My Heart by Carol J. Post was a sweet story. If I am honest, this book isn’t very memorable to me. I enjoyed it, but it was so much like so many other books I have read. There was nothing that made this book memorable to me which I hate saying because it was nothing special for me I know that other people will totally love this book.

Carol’s life sounds so interesting. I’m sure it trickles over into her books. New author to me and her book sounds like a great journey. Thanks for opportunity.

  • Vicki McCollum says:

Carol’s book sounds wonderful as does her life in North Carolina. Looking forward to reading the book.
