  • ‘UNION WITH CHRIST’ BY RANKIN WILBOURNE

I loved this book from the very beginning, because it reminded me right away that I was saved by God to do things for Him and to be in union with Him. Somehow along our journeys we often forget that. The author discusses how we struggle with our inner voices and the choices we make. We are supposed to be set apart from others in the world, but often that isn’t what Christians are known for. Wilbourne discusses other theologians’ perspective on unity and his thoughts on their perspectives, which was really interesting. Then he begins discussing what comes next after we have unity in Christ – our identity, where we are headed, our purpose, and our hope. Lastly we have to choose Christ daily – sometimes every minute of the day.

The topic of Union with Christ is a complex idea.  The author uses a LOT of metaphors and analogies, to try to make the topic more accessible.  In my opinion, the book was to much explanation, and not enough practical advice.  It was a well written book, but for some reason it didn’t resonate with me, probably because I am a concrete thinker, and as the author says at the beginning of the book, this is a topic that requires imagination.

American churches are suffering from too much religion and not even Jesus. Wilbourne’s book is an important intervention for the spiritual deficit and crisis of a largely absent Jesus in many churches. While numerous churches claim to offer and experience Jesus, too often they are more interested in offering rules, regulations, condemnation, guilt, shame, all stemming from teaching and preaching centered on the Mosaic Law, especially in pentecostal and apostolic churches. When one reads this book, he or she will learn to concentrate more on a relationship with Christ and stray from religion.

“A Prayer for Union With Christ” in the Afterword was encouraging and the best part of the book. Union With Christ is a great book for a new Christian to get started in their walk with God.

I found this book to be very rewarding, and helpful in learning more about union with Christ. I have dog eared several pages to reflect on and reread over time. I think this is an excellent read for those who just feel like there should be something ‘more’ to their Christian walk.

Wilbourne manages to package the sometimes difficult concepts into easy to understand language with practical examples and real world applications for a book that is easily readable and highly practical, yet very firmly grounded in the truth of God’s Word.

This book was so encouraging and insightful. It really focuses on ones relationship with the Lord. I know I have been struggling with my relationship with the Lord so this book is just what I needed. Sometimes a good relationship with the Lord seems unobtainable but this book shows that it truly is not and shows how a wonderful with the Lord really is. After reading this book I felt so uplifted and encouraged. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This book had its ups and downs, for me at least, but overall it was a very well written book packed with some powerful truths that we all need to hear. The author took a topic that can come across as to hard to understand (which in some ways it is) and explained it in a very clear yet intelligent way.

Wilbourne does a fantastic job with a difficult subject. I greatly enjoyed my reading of Union With Christ and would recommend this book to others. Regardless of where you are in your journey of following Jesus this book will prove beneficial and helpful to you. Come plumb the depths of what it means to have union with Christ.

This is a well written book that flows nicely. It’s easy to read, and not stuffy at all. It is an easy read, but not a light read. It’s an in depth exploration into your relationship and union with Christ, and how this impacts your whole life. The author uses a variety of scriptures and ties them in with current life, pop culture, and the like to make his point.

The author, Rankin Wilbourne, in Union with Christ is explaining a simple utmost truth. “If you are a Christian, the Bible says that Christ has united his life to yours, that you are now in Christ and Christ is in you.” Rankin wrote Union with Christ due to his concerns that the church is not enjoying this fact to the fullest extent that it should be. Union with Christ is definitely some of the same ‘ol, same ‘ol for long time believers. I think Union with Christ would be better for new believers, however still a good reminder for experienced Christians.

This is a difficult topic to grasp, and Wilbourne has made a valiant effort to explain such a supernatural concept in terms that our natural minds can assimilate. However, the end result is still a book that I’ll have to re-read several times to properly absorb. Maybe that’s mostly due to the topic itself; we’ve already established that “union with Christ” requires our minds to stretch beyond their earth-bound capacity. Whatever the reason for some of my struggles to connect with this book, it did make me think. And it made me aware of the absolute importance of understanding our union with Christ as much as we are able & letting it transform how we live.

Union with Christ is an easy read about how as believers we can know and enjoy Jesus better in our day to day life. Wilbourne breaks the book down into different sections which allows the reader to better follow and what he is sharing. While not my favorite book on this subject, this is definitely a good resource for folks wanting to go deeper in this area.

This topic of learning to abide in Christ (John 15) or union with Christ has been one that I’ve pondered for most of my adult life. If it hadn’t been for the teaching of the pastors at my church on justification and progressive sanctification, I probably wouldn’t have as good a grasp on this topic as I do. Oh, I’m far from perfect, but it has long been my prayer to realize the truth of Paul’s desire stated in Philippians 3:8–14. This is a full-length book that (at least for me) takes time to read it thoroughly in order to understand and comprehend and apply the truths of Scripture, but it is well worth every minute spent in doing so.

“Everything that happens to us, good and bad, and everything we strive for, can now be interpreted through this new prism—the image of God being restored in you.” Rankin Wilbourne, Union with Christ: The Way to Know and Enjoy God.

The doctrine of union with Christ is, as Wilbourne described, “… not a dusty relic of history or ivory tower pursuit” (p.36). It is central to the Gospel. His book will help us recover this great truth in the church today, “… the one place it most needs to be.”

The first thing I really love about this book is how easy it is to read and understand. I was one of the rare non-fiction books I’ve read where I just didn’t want to stop reading it. I was expecting to have to re-read sections of the book for clarification because it’s such a lofty subject matter, however, the author did a great job in explaining things for clear understanding.

  • ‘UNION WITH CHRIST’ BY RANKIN WILBOURNE

Rankin Wilbourne has written an in-depth book that explores a topic that believers should find exciting, and that is being in union with Christ. The Bible refers to this extensively, yet few probably understand the concept fully. Union with Christ is a book for all believers, but one that the serious student of the Bible would especially enjoy. Although it is difficult, maybe even impossible, to explain a mystical concept, the author has done a thorough job in exploring the subject and his writing is easy to follow. The greatest benefit for me personally is that I’m giving a lot of thought to all that this means and want to go back through this book slowly and in depth.

A great book I enjoyed it. It’s divided into four parts to help you understand more of union through Christ. It helped me understand it a lot better. I am glad that there is a book that helps you explain what Union with Christ is.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

  • ‘UNION WITH CHRIST’ BY RANKIN WILBOURNE

I love the author’s goal for this book – to return union with Christ to a living reality, central to the life of all believers. He paints a compelling picture through images, stories and Scripture about what union of Christ is. There are so many images packed into the book in fact, that I was left struggling to land somewhere with the book. I think the weakness of the book comes in how much breadth it is attempting to address, as well as a vagueness in the application. I was left frustrated with the lack of clear and practical principles of application. In short, this book offers a great look at the centrality of union with Christ to the Christian life, but stalls a bit with helping readers pursue the experience of union with Christ.

This book explains how we are in union with Christ…He is in us and we are in Him. This is the key to finding our identity in Christ.

Rankin’s book is well written, easy to read, and easy to understand. His examples are well documented. The truths that he is teaching are Biblically sound.

There is much one can glean from reading this book, however, I did find it difficult to hold my attention. I think, perhaps, he was so thorough in his examples that he went on a little long. Still there is a great deal of Biblical truth one can learn from this book.

Union With Christ explores the idea of oneness with Christ. This book is not for the light reader, but for those wanting to dig deep for a better understanding of what unity with Christ is all about. The author keeps readers interested with examples and Scripture. This book is a great conversation starter and would be great for book groups who leave time for discussion. Is oneness with Christ really possible? What would that look like today? Pick up your copy and discover Union With Christ.

I would highly recommend this book because of the topic as well as a thorough treatment of the subject.
Rankin Wilbourne does an excellent job explaining what union with Christ is and why it is important. I found Chapter 2 helpful and almost highlighted an entire page because of the good news there.

If you “acknowledge the gap between the inheritance we’ve been given and our present experience of how we see ourselves,” then Union With Christ is the book for you. I don’t know that I have read any book on the subject that answered so many questions that I have been asking regarding the discrepancy between our knowledge of Christianity and our experience of it.

The author’s goal for this book is to return union with Christ to a living reality, central to the life of all believers. Many pastors have left out union with Christ and either preach all grace or all works. Union in Christ means we are in Him, and He is in us. Faith is finding your identity in Christ (pg# 135) I recommend this book to Believers and Seekers.

He uses the illustration of the blind man from Bethsaida, who needed a second touch to completely cure his blindness. That’s where I’m at with this book. It’s long, 320 pages. It’s challenging. It’s not a coffee table book; it’s one that belongs in the “serious study” section of one’s library. It’s not a devotional. This is meat, and you are going to have to chew it.

The book’s strength is its exposition of the way union with Christ affects the Christian perspective on salvation, prayer, spiritual growth, suffering, and a host of other important aspects of life. These thoughts are both informative and encouraging, and are gems worth working through the vagueness and metaphors to grasp.

  • ‘UNION WITH CHRIST’ {A LITFUSE PUBLICITY GROUP REVIEW}

The book is beautifully written, and I love all the examples, the authors he quotes and the ideas that he shares. This is a deep and important book. Yet, this is a book that is often big on theory and short of application. There are great applications, and yet they all have a more theoretical feel to them. Perhaps that is because of the nature of the mystery of union with Christ. Either way, this is an excellent book, and one that I heartily enjoyed.
