Unsinkable Faith: God-Filled Strategies to Transform the Way You Think, Feel, and Live (David C. Cook, April 2017)

For many people, remaining optimistic and feeling positive about themselves and their lives is a constant battle — especially when circumstances are difficult and life is hard.

For others, negativity is something that only sneaks up from time to time, yet still wreaks havoc in their hearts. Regardless of the root causes, once pessimistic thoughts permeate our minds, our feelings and emotions begin to control us instead of us controlling them. Eventually it doesn’t seem possible to stay positive, happy, and full of joy, and negative thought patterns shake our faith, causing us to sink emotionally, mentally, and spiritually over time. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Despite what storms roll in, hearts anchored in God don’t sink. When we change the way we think, we can change the way we feel and live, even if our circumstances remain the same. Intentionally embracing the opportunity to experience a transformed heart and a renewed mind opens the door for a changed life, because a positive mind will always lead to a more positive life.

In Unsinkable Faith, author and Proverbs 31 Ministries speaker Tracie Miles offers hope for women who struggle with negativity. Each chapter explores Tracie’s and other women’s personal stories, showing how they rose above their circumstances by transforming and renewing their minds. Unsinkable Faith is a breath of fresh air for anyone longing for a heart full of joy, an unbreakable smile, and a new, more optimistic perspective on life. This book will equip you to:

—Replace pessimism with positive thinking by becoming the captain of your thoughts;
—Learn how true joy and happiness are based on choice, not circumstances;
—Overcome unhealthy habits of negative thinking by intentionally implementing three easy mind-renewing steps;
—Stop feeling hopeless and pitiful, and start feeling hope-filled and powerful instead; and
—Discover that when you change the way you think, you change the way feel, and in turn you can change your life completely.

Transform the way you think, feel and live

Tracie Miles helps readers develop an unsinkable faith through all circumstances

3/23/2017 || Seattle: Thoughts are powerful and at times cause us to feel and act in ways we wouldn’t normally. In fact, they can become so powerful that if left unchecked, they end up controlling us rather than the other way around. When our thoughts and feelings are largely negative in nature, those pessimistic ideas infiltrate our lives — and our faith — making it increasingly difficult to live with joy. In Unsinkable Faith: God-Filled Strategies to Transform the Way You Think, Feel, and Live (David C Cook/April 1, 2017/ ISBN: 978-0781414364/$16.99), Tracie Miles offers practical, life-changing strategies for those who struggle with negativity, leading them to discover how the transforming of their minds can transform their lives.

For some individuals, remaining optimistic about life and feeling positive about themselves are a constant battle. It may even become a battle that seems hopeless, particularly when life is hard and circumstances are difficult. For others, negativity is something that sneaks up from time to time, catching them off-guard. In either case, once dark thoughts permeate the mind, it becomes challenging to see the light. Even with the knowledge that negativity doesn’t come from God, it’s difficult to escape wondering, Is it possible to develop an unsinkable faith that carries us through life with a hopeful, positive attitude, no matter what?

In the midst of a painful divorce, Miles was faced with a barrage of negative self-talk. As she cried out to God through her pain, she sensed Him drawing her nearer. “It was a turning point for me to lean harder into Jesus instead of letting this situation shake my faith,” Miles remembers. “I invited Him to help me transform my thoughts from negative into positive so I could transform and reclaim my life.”

Each chapter of Unsinkable Faith explores personal stories from Miles and others, showing how they were able to rise above their circumstances by transforming and renewing their minds. These inspiring stories illustrate when a person’s thoughts and attitudes improve, their lives do too — even if the circumstances remain the same.

Unsinkable Faith is filled with Biblical wisdom and insight as well as recent scientific findings in support of what Scripture has said all along: It is possible to transform our lives by transforming of our minds. Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out” (The Message).

Each chapter comes to a close with “Strategies for Transforming Your Thinking,” which includes a section for mind-transforming personal reflections that will help the reader begin to identify their thinking habits and practically implement tools for positive thinking into their own lives. Also included are mind-renewing scriptures and a powerful Chapter Challenge to empower the reader to change from the inside out. Unsinkable Faith will inspire readers to embrace God’s truth as they discover His tools for a more positive and optimistic outlook. Rather than sinking mentally, emotionally and spiritually, God’s truths and a positive mindset make it possible to live a life of joy, peace and happiness.

    Did you know you have 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts a day? I was reminded of this recently while reading Unsinkable Faith by Tracie Miles (www.traciemiles.com). Reading her book reminded me how important my thought life is to my overall emotional and physical health.

    Tracie Miles has grasped a profound truth in her book, Unsinkable Faith. That truth has set her free from her past, the lies she has believed when she has looked only at her circumstances, and the lies the enemy has whispered into her heart and mind that burden her with guilt and shame. What is this truth? The powerful truth of God’s word!

    The last few years has brought some stuff that otherwise could have cause me to want to run for the hills, but this book reminded me that I have to cling to Him and He will guide me through as He has done so many other times before. Life is not always going to be good but God always will.

    I highly recommend this book and give it a huge thumbs up!

    This book came at a time in my life that I really needed it. I am currently dealing with a disability that I have only had for 3 years now and also a disease that is constantly changing so I have also been dealing with a mild case of depression. This book helped me to focus on the positive and not the negative. Great book.

    Tracie suggests the reader use a journal to place your thoughts to questions asked in each chapter. It can be your own personal journal or you can purchase one at Tracie’s website. Tracie also lists positive memory verses for the reader to ruminate on while reading the book, and after.

    Miles’s book shows practical ways to deal with negative emotions. There are numerous stories, by the author as well as other women, which are likely to be very relatable to the reader.

    I really enjoyed how Miles discussed crushing ANTs — automatic negative thoughts. The process for doing so is to notice the negative thoughts, reject the negative thoughts, and replace the negative thoughts. She gives examples on doing this, as well.

    This book was just the things I needed to read, too often we allow feelings of acquaintances hold us back from the life that God intended us to lead and this book addresses how we can rise above self doubt and negativity and lead fulfilling, bold lives. Speaking from personal experience and stories of other women this book is such an encouraging and insightful read that really resonated with me. I highly recommend it!

    Turn on the TV, its bad news. Scroll through your newsfeed- it’s complaining and fighting. Politics, motherhood, what’s to watch on TV or what’s in a drink at Starbucks… everywhere we look people are complaining about something. Seeing it all can really weigh us down… add in real life issues that actually aren’t going well… well, it really is truly very hard to stay positive!

    I would recommend this book to anyone who is ready to change and transform their thoughts into more like Christ and they’re ready to grow your faith. It was very eye opening to read how many thoughts we think per day and how 80% are negative. I loved how real and transparent Tracie Miles was and how she shared her personal life story.

    Life seems to come at us in waves, at least for me. There are periods of calm (the normal day to day routine), excitement (weddings, new babies, first homes, new jobs), and periods that are full of storms (cancer, lost jobs, … insert yours here). Unsinkable Faith is about “finding joy in the everyday.” It isn’t about avoiding the rollercoaster of emotions that come with life. It is about how we choose to react in those situations. Are we going to become bitter when life doesn’t go our way or are we going to rest and rejoice in the life we have?

    Wow, what an awesome book! My entire life I have dealt with negativity, worry, anxiety, fear, and pessimism. From page one of this book, I immediately knew the truths inside would transform my life. Tracie’s honest sharing about the breakup of her marriage made her message all that more trustworthy – she’s just gone through one of the worst events a woman can go through, and she is still able to overcome those negative thoughts and feelings with the power of the word of God. What a testimony!

    I loved this little book that focuses on being positive. Now I will admit that I am not a negative person. I’m pretty positive and cheerful, but this book really spoke to me as it focused on choosing happiness. It also had a theme of self-forgiveness that ran through it (one of my favorite themes, if you know me!). Each chapter was very easy to read, with examples and stories, along with Bible verses and activities. My review copy was an e-book (thank you!), but I think it is a compact little book that you can leave lying around, just waiting to be discovered!

    This review is for the book Unsinkable Faith by Tracie Miles. This is a great book, because it is so easy to have that strong, solid faith when things in your life are going well. Often, when a tragedy happens though, you start to sink. Your attitude goes south and you don’t feel peace or joy anymore. But the author sets out to show us how to get through those patches without getting bogged down with a pessimistic mind-set.
