  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’

    My thoughts:

I really enjoy reading books about the Old Testament and the characters within it. A different perspective on something can make us view things and actions in a whole new light and increase our understanding. The story of Moses contains so much and so does the book of Exodus. I think that this piece of historical biblical fiction has really caused me to rethink and relook at those stories. I really enjoyed it! Definitely a series I’ll be following!

The author does an amazing job of bringing the Book of Exodus to life too in this story! Although this is a fictional re-telling of what could have happened, the author provides a strongly researched tale with a real sense of authenticity .

  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’

The story of Moses confronting Pharaoh and leading the Jews out of Egypt is a story most of us know. But like all historical fiction, it always teaches me something new.

In the end Pharaoh loses big time. Ms Contreras also brought insight into just how the suffering of the Egyptians might have played out. I’m looking forward to the second book of the Tell of My Kingdom’s Glory series.

There is extreme research and historical facts in the book. So much so your brain can get on overload, when you try to read it as fast as I did. I will be going back and reading at my leisure and taking the time to soak all of this incredible knowledge in that Sonya Contreras brings to the table with Until My Name is Known. The book includes maps and a very large glossary at the end as well as other research information

  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’ REVIEW

This book is set in 2450 BC in Egypt. Today’s historians wonder how the Old Kingdom of Egypt fell. This story is a fictional account which ties in things with scriptural accuracy to create an adventure that will capture your attention from the first chapter. This book is intended to be a fictional reference to the book of Exodus, and how Moses may have felt as he followed God’s leading.

The book also includes a reference map, a glossary, and references to other books, as well as a little teaser for the second book in the series. I think this is going to turn out to be a great series to read. If you enjoy historical fiction based on scripture, you will enjoy this book. Personally, I love to read books where the author tries to imagine how people in the Bible may have felt.

  • BOOK REVIEW FOR ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’ BY SONYA CONTRERAS

As someone who loves history and enjoys historical fiction, I was curious what my opinion would be with reading my first Biblical fiction novel. Until My Name is Known by Sonya Contreras drew me initially out of curiosity, and then held my interest through descriptive narrative and detailed 2nd-person conversations. I enjoyed the opportunity to look at Moses’ journey in leading the Israelites out of Egypt in a very personalized way.

I had assumed Until My Name is Known would be a quick read; I was wrong. But if you are ready to sit down and drink in abundant details, it’s very well written. It also is a nicely analyzes the complexity of human nature & God omniscient blended in ways that personify Moses, Zipporah, Aaron, Pharaoh & others (based on how they view God).

  • SOME OF THE BEST HISTORICAL FICTION I HAVE EVER READ

Sonya Contreras has written a book that can really put you in the story of Moses and the Jews leaving Egypt. This biblical fiction story is accurate in the events that took place, as in biblically sound, but focuses on specific characters who went through those amazing times by telling you their story. She draws you in quickly with her knowledge of history and life in those times, painting a visual image in your mind. As you read on, you feel as though you are a part of the story and living it with the people. It’s fantastic historical fiction!

  • GRIPPING AND FRESH VIEW OF EXODUS

Reading Until My Name is Known I was really impressed by the level of commitment Sonya has shown the Book of Exodus and although this is a fictional re-telling of what could have happen, the author shows a love and desire to bring to this book, research and a sense of authenticity to bring the readers into this re-telling of Moses, not from when he started out as a baby, but as an adult and facing a task that he felt at the time,he wasn’t the right person.

Even at the end, there was an inclusion of a map, glossary, and amazing list of books to reference and throughout the story itself, I felt like Sonya really brought the story of Moses and the Exodus to life that toward the end, I found myself anxiously waiting for book two to see how she will continue this series.

  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’

Filled to the brim with excellent information, this book is one that you can easily tell has been thoroughly researched and that the author put a lot of time and effort into it. It is interesting how it got me thinking how God does change ones life and yet for some people that is a negative thing because of the choices that they make. I enjoyed the story line and how it was told from several peoples point of view. I enjoyed the fact that this book was a little different from the books that I normally read. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

  • LITFUSE BOOK REVIEW: ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’ BY SONYA CONTRERAS

I liked a lot of aspects of this book. Biblical fiction really is one of my most favourite genres, and this one was accurate, and enjoyable. The account of Moses and the Exodus out of Egypt has been coming to my attention quite frequently, and so it was great to read another “retelling” of it. I appreciated the variety of characters and their point’s of view through out this book. They were good characters, for the most part, there of course being the ‘bad’ characters, like Pharaoh who was more frustrating than frightening, and the vizier who I very much disliked.

I wish we could’ve seen more of Zipporah in the very end. I was expecting her part of the story to get wrapped up, but perhaps that will continue in the next book of this series.

  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’ BY SONYA CONTRERAS #BOOKREVIEW

I used to think that I didn’t enjoy reading about history, turns out I really do as long as I can relate to it somehow. Sonya uses historical and archaeological records to tell this story about the Hebrew’s exodus from Egypt. She does this by allowing the reader to know the view points of several of the characters, thus making them feel as if they were a participant during Moses’ time in back in 2450 BC. I was captivated so much by the story that I could not put it down until I was finished reading the whole book!

Enjoyed the book – clearly Sonya does tremendous research and that is her passion! • GOOD DEBUT NOVEL

Until My Name is Known is the first book in Sonya Contreras debut series, The Tell of My Kingdom’s Glory and it is a good book. As my regular followers know I am always interested in reading books from brand new authors and that one of my favorite genres is Biblical fiction because of all the history. Sonya Contreras writes with authority about the bible, Egypt during biblical times, how the different religions were structured, and how the hierarchy was structured. The book has the right balance of fact and fiction to keep the book interesting. I enjoyed this book and felt like I was there watching things unfold as I read. I liked that the book told the story from the different points of view from Pharaoh to the slaves. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Biblical Fiction, you will enjoy this. I look forward to reading more from Sonya Contreras.

  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’

Until My Name is Known by Sonya Contreras, is a Biblical fiction. Contreras takes the story of Moses and how God wanted him to help bring the Jews out of Egypt and turns it into a story that is intriguing. Her descriptions allow the reader to actually “see” and “feel” how Pharaoh’s people may have felt during the plagues that befell them. She brings more characters into play, which allows the story to be more understandable. The men had families, but we don’t read about these families in the Bible. By adding the families in, Contreras reminds the reader that these men were indeed part of a family. She gives more meaning to their daily lives. It’s not just based on how they honored God.

  • INTERESTING LOOK AT THE ISRAELITES’ LAST DAYS IN EGYPT

Until My Name Is Known begins just after the Lord speaks to Moses in the burning bush and goes through the crossing of the Red Sea. Rather than solely focusing on Moses, Until My Name Is Known also follows several Egyptians and Israelites. I’ve pretty much always thought of the Exodus through Moses’s perspective, so it was nice to get a picture of what other Israelites and the Egyptians may have been thinking. While there are many, many characters in Until My Name Is Known, I never once became confused about who was who—Contreras handled the multiple characters expertly.

  • DISAPPOINTING READ

While the story is historically accurate, I had trouble getting into it because of the author’s lack of sentence structure variation, which is an indication of telling rather than showing. Also, several times through the book, I questioned the choice of POV character. Instead of making the characters come alive and be “real,” these POV choices in most cases made them wooden and static. Finally,I like to see a strong spiritual thread in fiction. But it needs to be such an integral part of the story that it flows naturally out of the characters. having it spelled out for the reader, even to the very end, is redundant and frankly insults the reader’s intelligence. In the end, I do appreciate the author’s research and how she wove it into an historically accurate retelling of this story.

  • REVIEW: ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’

Sonya is passionate about retelling the Exodus story in a fresh way, through a variety of Egyptian and Hebrew characters, and showing God’s faithfulness throughout. While it didn’t quite pull me in as a work of fiction, there were parts that I did enjoy. Zipporah gives voice to man’s questioning of God as she struggles with a God who would require such a mission from her husband. And then there’s the age-old problem of pain and suffering, reflected in Aaron’s question, “Will anyone seek God, if he doesn’t know he needs God?” Overarching theme of God’s constant faithfulness.

  • BOOK REVIEW: ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’ BY SONYA CONTRERAS

I think the best movie version of the Exodus story is Cecil B. DeMille’s “The Ten Commandments” starring Charlton Heston as Moses. I think, so far, the best book version is this one. Ms. Contreras has done a magnificent job of bringing Moses and Pharaoh to life and their clash of wills. She has also done the same with all the supporting characters giving them their own unique identities. The story begins after the incident with the burning bush and takes us all the way to the crossing of The Red Sea. Even though you know the events that are going to happen let me tell you this is one very exciting book. Ms. Contreras has done a great job with her research and her skill is evident in her presentation as a story rather than a message. Until My Name is Known is a wonderful, interesting story.

Deb’s Dozen: Moses called by God, Zipporah left behind, but God’s Will Be Done.

Until My Name is Known by Sonya Contreras retells the familiar story of Moses from the time he saw God in the burning bush until he led the Israelites across the sea bed to safety—but with a twist.

Contreras personalizes Moses in a way I’ve not seen before. By starting at the burning bush, we see a Moses who has lived contentedly in the desert for forty years. He and his wife, Zipporah, and their sons, Gershom, have tended sheep and lived well. The new baby, Eliezer, is growing strong and healthy. When Moses comes back with the incredible story of the bush and the mission God has given him, Zipporah scoffs—why should God choose him? They’re comfortable where they are, why should they leave? Despite her desire

  • FAVORITE BIBLICAL FICTION BOOK EVER!

This book was so well researched and so accurate both in history and Biblical elements. I learned so much from this book about the Exodus and Moses and it made me want to read the account from the Bible all over again to really remember how amazing it really was!

This book made me understand the historical times, understand how AMAZING God is and was for Moses and the Jews and makes me bow at the feet of God humbled and Amazed at everything he has done! She made the story COME ALIVE for me and put me right there to experience it all – the pain of the Jews, the stress and nervousness of Moses, the anger and stubbornness of the Pharoah and so much more!

This book from Contreras may be my favorite Biblical Fiction book that I have read so far!

  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’

Sonya Contreras utilizes storytelling, an historical event and a Biblical account to give us a novel that takes the reader back in time to the ancient world. What made this novel different for me was the heart of the author and the unique approach to what we read in Exodus 1-15. The novel doesn’t cover everything in the passage as it’s the first book in the series with a second book in the works titled, I Have Called You By Name.

The one aspect of the novel that I most appreciated was pointing out that the plagues were to show the false gods versus The One True God. It was an epic battle for the hearts and souls of those God would call His own against the false gods who weren’t gods at all. The story shows how through the plagues various characters either realized they were worshipping a false god or some would choose to fight against the God of the Hebrew people.

  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’ BY SONYA CONTRERAS

I am a huge biblical fiction fan, so when I was asked to review this book I said yes without hesitation.

This is a different take on Moses, Sonya doesn’t start at the beginning of his life where he is found floating in the basket of the Nile river, she begins her story after he’s killed the Egyptian and has run from Egypt. I found the book interesting like a companion to the book of Exodus as a commentary. Her research is extensive considering the bibliography that she includes at the end of the book. • A GREAT DEBUT NOVEL IN AN EXCITING NEW SERIES BASED ON THE BIBLE!

You can tell quite a bit of research went into this book based on the number of resources she refers to in her bibliography to help us fill in the missing pieces. The best part of this book for me, was seeing it laid out as the 10 plagues of Egypt were called down by Moses and how it simply did just happen in the course of a couple weeks. It shows how far God is willing to go to reach people with each plague getting more darker as Pharoah turns in desperation to the gods of Egypt to counter God’s power.

  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’ BOOK REVIEW

If you went to church as a child, you heard the stories about the Israelites’ time as slaves in Egypt. I always wondered why Pharaoh was being so difficult (and) why God sent those particular plagues. This book answers these questions and more in a fictionalize manner that grabbed my attention from the beginning and held it to the end. The story also shows how each plague was focused in defeating one or more Egyptian gods and showing Yahweh God’s power. One by one, the power of their gods was stripped away until all that was left was Yahweh. While we don’t know exactly what happened to the Old Kingdom of Egypt, Sonya Contreras’ novel does give her readers something to think about.

The account of the Exodus of Moses and the Israelites is probably one of the most widely familiar accounts in history. I like to read fiction stories that bring to life the Bible. To take stories I’ve grown up hearing and tell them in a new way. Even though I know the story of the Israelites leaving Egypt, I found myself unable to put this book down. I was drawn to the characters and how the Hebrews chose to trust God. And it was trusting God that was the theme through this book – and what happened to those who didn’t trust.

  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’ BY SONYA CONTRERAS

Until My Name is Known comes from a new to me author and starts with Moses recounting his meeting with God at the burning bush. The narrative doesn’t stay with Moses, however, and we soon get perspectives from his wife Zipporah, his brother Aaron, and various Hebrews and Egyptians as they experience the plagues God sends to the land.

Until My Name is Known is a readable novel and I certainly didn’t have any reluctance to finish it. I did spot a couple of errors that made it through the editing process, but they weren’t enough to throw the book across the room!

Book two in this new series is called I Have Called You by Name, but I’m not sure if I’ll read it. Until My Name is Known doesn’t end on a cliffhanger and works well as a standalone piece of Biblically-based fiction.

I know a lot of research and thought went into the story and I appreciated that it made me look at a story I take for granted in a whole new light.

  • GREAT BIBLICAL FICTION

On the title page of the copy I received, the author signed the book and wrote, “Read it to see Him!” Reading this incredible story, I did see the way God has worked in history. And I saw his awesome power and his amazing love for his people.

  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’ BY SONYA CONTRERAS

The story of the Exodus is told from a variety of view points in this novel. In doing so Sonya Contreras allows the reader to see and understand different view points. While we tend to think of just Moses and Pharaoh when we read this story, it involved all of the Hebrew, Egyptians, and other nations as they heard about the things going on. I did feel that perhaps there were too many view points and it created a few too many characters.

Readers will enjoy Sonya Contreras research and attention to details. You will be able to get a better view of ancient Egypt than before and enrich the way you understand that historical time.

  • ‘UNTIL MY NAME IS KNOWN’

A story like this is so fitting and this moment in time. It was a good reminder of past and future as well as present events.
