A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn (Avon Inspire, September 2015)

A wedding brings together two young widowed parents . . . and gives them a second chance at love.

Emma Keim was heartbroken when her husband, Sanford, passed away, leaving her to raise three young daughters alone. Though several years have passed, her relatives have made it no secret that they expect Emma to remain a widow, mourning Sanford indefinitely. But when she meets Jay Hilty—a handsome widower with three young sons of his own—Emma is delighted to have a new friend who understands her struggles. Still, she is dismayed that her family is so opposed to their friendship—and the idea of it ever becoming anything more. She honors her husband’s memory every day, but is she destined to be alone forever?

Emma’s gentleness with Jay’s boys stirs something in his heart that’s been quiet for far too long. But when his oldest son becomes engaged to a local woman, suddenly Jay, Emma, and their children are swept up in wedding preparations. Witnessing his son’s joy, Jay wonders if it’s time for him to move forward, too, and find happiness again.

Once again, love has come to Pinecraft. But can these two parties of four become a happy, healthy family of eight?

  • OLD YOUNG LOVE

I am a fan of Shelley’s writing and this book was no different. Amish are appreciated so wonderfully, explaining and cherishing their way of life. Here too the author has done justice to the family and children that form the basis of the Amish way of life. The kids are the most important part of a parent life and more so since they have lost a spouse. As ideal parents both Emma and Jay always put their family first and move with the needs of their children.

  • ‘A WEDDING AT THE ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’ BOOK BLOG TOUR STOP AND REVIEW

In A Wedding At The Orange Blossom Inn, her third book in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series, author Shelley Shepard Gray takes her readers back to the quaint Florida community outside of Sarasota where the Amish folks come to vacation and is the perfect backdrop for this charming romantic story!

It is always a delight to sit down and enjoy Shelley’s books, and I have particularly enjoyed this Amish Brides series. Her reoccurring characters are warm and friendly people that you’d love to have as neighbors, and the gentle tales of romance are just lovely. Shelley is a skilled storyteller and readers will feel pulled into the story as if you are right there as a guest at the Inn.

  • ‘A WEDDING AT THE ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’

There’s going to be a wedding, but who will be the bride and groom? There are three couples who may or may not be heading toward matrimony. The main couple consist of a lady and her three daughters and a man and his three sons. Just like an Amish Brady Bunch.

And so the adventures begin. Even though this book is the third in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series, it is a good stand alone read. But it’s better if you read The Promise of Palm Grove and The Proposal at Siesta Key first for background. I especially like the Pinecraft settings as I live near there. I would really like to spend some time at the Orange Blossom Inn.

  • LOVE THIS BOOK, AUTHOR IS BECOMING ONE OF MY FAVS

Author Shelley Shepard Gray has written another great story. Orange Blossom Inn is about a young widow with daughters who meets a widower with sons and they are drawn together by their same problems. Emma finds herself falling in love with Jay but, others in her family did not want her to ever get married again. Why should they both not find happiness again? This is another great addition to her series called Amish Brides of Pinecraft. While helping Jay with his older son’s wedding preparations they start to think about each other. Will there be another wedding in Pinecraft? I give this book a 5/5.

  • WHEN LIFE GETS YOU DOWN…READ A BOOK

Shelley Shepard Gray does a wonderful job capturing the reader from the very beginning. I have not read a book by her that I have disliked. She has captured my full attention from the beginning and I find that I have a hard time putting down her books. I do like that her books aren’t as many pages because then I can read it as a reward in between doing chores (don’t judge me!). By the end of my chore time, I’ve completed the entire book as a reward for mopping and cleaning. So thank you, Shelley Shepard Gray for giving me something to look forward to and for testing my ability to “just say no” when all I really want to do is read one more chapter before picking up that mop! I’m so glad that there’s one more book in this series. I just don’t want to say goodbye yet!

  • ;A WEDDING AT ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’ BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY #REVIEW

This series of books here are one of the few Amish stories I have on my keeper shelf. They are so interesting and different from the normal Amish novel. They are fun people who you like and their stories are not depressing. Yes, bad things happen but the overall bent of the story is not sad.

In this one, the ending of the trilogy, there is a happy pizza-loving Beagle, 6 rambunctious youngsters and you guessed it, a wedding! The two main characters are widowed and I felt such empathy for them. It was hard to see them go through what they did but the prevailing message is hope and joy. An amazing story that makes you laugh and enjoy the life of the Amish in Florida.

  • ANOTHER GREAT STORY

A Wedding at The Orange Blossom Inn is the third book in Shelley Shepard Gray’s latest series, The Amish Brides of Pinecraft and it is fantastic! As a huge fan of Amish Fiction, Shelley Shepard Gray’s books are in my top 10 to read and this latest book did NOT disappoint! In this book Emma Keim and Jay Hilty are both widowed with three children each and of course Frankie the beagle who brings them together in the first place because of his love of pizza. Again this book takes place in Pinecraft with a good portion at The Orange Blossom Inn, the setting for the other two books. Shelley Shepard Gray writes with authority on The Amish, their faith, the communities throughout the US, Pinecraft,FL, and the hospitality industry. I love the setting being in this beautiful inn. I can pictured myself there as I read these books. Shelley Shepard Gray information about the Amish is correct and in each book I have learned more about the Amish that I didn’t know before. I had a hard time putting this book down, the story grabbed me from the start and held on. I found myself laughing in parts, especially those with Frankie, the beagle and crying in others. I enjoyed meeting new friends and learning about old friends from books past. This book can be read as a stand alone because Shelley Shepard Gray’s writing makes it easy to keep up but also not too much to bore those of us that have read the series. I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys Amish Fiction, you will NOT be disappointed! I am excited to learn that there will be a Book Four in this series, Can’t wait!! I give this book 5 STARS.

Although this is book 3 and previous characters are mentioned, this can be read as a stand alone book.

Emma and Jay’s stories are both unique and it’s sweet how they meet and start to slowing blend their families together. I was surprised with the opposition and lack of support they received from family members when they started to date since they are both widowed. Emma’s dog adds a funny but frustrating element to the story. I loved the family togetherness and dynamics.

  • ‘A WEDDING AT ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’ BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY

A Wedding at Orange Blossom Inn is the third book in the Pinecraft Brides series. I have enjoyed reading all of them. The two main characters of this story are Emma and Jay. There were many supporting characters including all of the children they each have. Emma has three young girls and Jay has three sons. They add really interesting side plots to the book. There are complications of course. Emma’s parents and ex in laws do not want her to move on and remarry. A major side plot develops with Jay’s oldest son. He falls in love with the lady who runs the Orange Blossom Inn’s niece. At one point it kind of felt like that plot was taking over the main plot of Jay and Emma. But overall the story worked together. There were many funny moments including one pizza loving dog. I love this series. I recommend reading them in order as most of the character’s stories keep going in the next book. The Orange Blossom Inn and Beverly are the backbones of the whole series. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series which promises to focus mainly on Beverly’s story.

This book is the third book in the series, and the setting of Pinecraft as well as the Orange Blossom Inn is so easy to imagine, and the characters are so easy to connect with. I could easily imagine a dog loving pizza, Frankie was tail wagging adorable, and really made the story for me. Of course the story between Jay and Emma was great. Each one being a widow with children, neither looking for love, but sometimes it’s when your least expecting to find love that it finds you.

  • WEDDINGS AND MORE!

I think I’ve always idealized the Amish because from the outside there seems to be an order for everything and a peacefulness about their lives. However, after reading this third installment of the series, I’ve begun to realize that the Amish have struggles and strife in their own lives as well–it’s just not plastered on the front of every tabloid or Facebook posting as we do in the English culture. The more I read about the Amish, the more I have grown to love their ways, or at least the ways of the characters in these books. I can’t wait for book #4, A Christmas Bride in Pinecraft!

  • SWEET TIMES IN PINECRAFT

I’m fond of Shelly Shephard Grey’s take on the Amish lifestyle. In this latest series I often find myself wondering if this idyllic land of Pinecraft, Florida really exists. And low and behold it does! It just sounds lovely! And Shelley Shepard Gray has even been there and found it so lovely it prompted this series. So in case you’re wondering she’s writing from a bit of first hand experience (that was a good thing for me to know).

  • REBIRTH AND RESTARTING INSPIRATION

I loved this book as much as the first two books. This quaint little Amish town set in Florida which is totally different then normally reading about the Ohio or Pennsylvania setting. The differences in the customs is fun to see. There are colorful dresses and flip flops that you don’t see on the Amish in the northern areas. The interesting thing is when I read a book in those northern areas, people were pushing the people to marry again shortly after their mourning period but in this book, the family didn’t want widowed Emma to remarry. All is revealed through reading the book and I know that you will be as shocked as I was to learn all of the reasons. Of course at the same time, I know you will love all the new characters introduced in this book! Great stand alone book in series!!!

  • A GREAT WRAP UP TO THE SERIES

I have enjoyed the other two books in this series and as difficult as this one was for me to read, the main characters are a widow and widower, this one was also fantastic! Emma and Jay have been a widow and widower for several years and both have three children – Emma has girls and Jay has sons – and Jay doesn’t want to betray his wives memory and Emma’s family and in-laws want her to stay a widow the rest of her life. There isn’t much suspense like I felt in the other two books, if one wants to call the conflict suspense, but it was an engaging, quick read. I think reading this book was a bit cathartic for me in a way to see that there can be life again whether it’s having just a friendship or something more – one never knows what God has in store for us.

  • I enjoyed getting acquainted with new characters in Pinecraft. This a beautifully crafted story, and very easy to follow along.

I found the father’s advice to the groom especially moving: “Try to remember that your time together is a gift, son. A beautiful, amazing gift that was bestowed on you both.” Advice I’d wish to share with each of my children on their wedding days…if those days ever come.

I love to read stories by Shelley Shepard Gray. Her Amish Brides of Pinecraft series is one of her best. I have read three books in the series, the latest being A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn. This selection has two (and a hint of a third) romantic plots going at the same time. I especially enjoyed the interaction between Emma Keim and Jay Hilty. Both lost their spouses and had three children to raise alone. I thought the story was very sweet although the funny antics of the kids and one bratty beagle reminded me of the movie, With Six You Get Eggroll. I enjoyed the way each character played off the other. Usually, I find that stories like this are trite and not too interesting to me, but Ms. Gray keeps the action going and also my interest.

I love the Pinecraft series. The Amish portrayed in this community are a bit different from most other Amish novels. I love Gray’s writing style because she makes it easy to read the book and not have to do a lot of heavy thinking. You can just read for the enjoyment of the book.

I can’t wait to read the fourth book in this series. I’m really looking forward to it.

  • BOOK REVIEW: ‘A WEDDING AT THE ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’ BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY

Love is in full bloom for the Amish of Pinecraft, FL. The main story revolves around the romance of Emma Keim and Jay Hilty, both widowed and raising three kids. It reads much like the Brady Bunch TV series, complete with three boys for Dad, three girls for Mom, and a very naughty dog. It was a nice, breezy read that made me smile. Another storyline involves Jay’s oldest son, Ben, who is experiencing his own romance with an Amish girl who fled some difficulties at home in Ohio to take refuge with her Aunt Beverly, who runs the Orange Blossom Inn. As these two courtships are wrapped up, we continue to watch the slow-burning romance between Beverly and the owner of the inn, Eric. Happily, Eric and Beverly’s relationship will take center stage in the upcoming final book in the series!

4.5 out of 5 stars! Over a year ago, Jay’s wife passed away, so now he and his sons move to Pinecraft, Florida to make a new life for themselves. While waiting for their new home to be ready Jay meets Emma, an Amish mother of three little girls who is a widower too, who is chasing after her naughty beagle. Has fate/God set them on a path to meet and become something more? Or will moving forward be too hard for them and those around them?

  • AN AMISH BRADY BUNCH?

As I read the story, I couldn’t help but compare some of the main characters to the classic TV show, The Brady Bunch. Widowed mom with three girls meets widowed dad with three boys, and . . . well, you’ll have to read the story to see what comes next. Throw in a well-meaning, but trouble-making, beagle and you have plenty of elements for an enjoyable story.

The characters are delightful to meet. The relationships in the story move very quickly, but there is enough development to enjoy getting to know some of the feelings and struggles of the people involved. There are visits from many of the Pinecraft folks we’ve met in the previous stories, including Beverly Overholt in her Orange Blossom Inn.

  • REVIEW: ‘A WEDDING AT THE ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’

Shelley has a gift for making not only characters, but setting, come alive in this series. It is delightful to see characters from the previous two books pop in occasionally, yet this story can stand alone. Interwoven throughout is the Amish proverb – “It takes both sunshine and rain to make a rainbow” – and doesn’t that truly reflect life? The theme of renewal/rebirth is also seen throughout this series, and that’s part of the Christian life that I never want to take for granted. I thoroughly enjoyed A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn and recommend not only this story, but the whole series.

  • A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn is the third book in this series, however you can read this book without having read the first two books. Shelley Shepard Gray is one of my favorite authors. I love reading her Amish stories. Especially when they are set in Florida. All of her books are easy reading and this one is no exception. I could just curl up and read her books all day.
A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn is a wonderful story about falling in love a second time. Two widowed parents meet and discover they can and do love another person after the lose of their spouse.

  • ‘A WEDDING AT THE ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’

I always enjoy books by Shelley Shepard Gray. She has a unique way of making her characters come to life that makes them seem like old friends. A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn is a continuation of Gray’s Amish Brides of Pinecraft series that is set in Florida. The third book in the series, it can easily stand on its own although there is a thread that runs throughout the series that centers on the inn.

This particular volume contains, not one, not even two, but three romance stories and the reader might be surprised by which couple marries first. Although the story features Emma and Jay primarily, their children, the innkeeper, and her niece also play pivotal roles. An then there is Frankie, a pizza-loving beagle who gets into enough mischief to keep everyone laughing.

  • This was a cute story with hints of the Brady Bunch! Prayer and faith in God were important to the story as many prayed for direction. There were some cute romantic moments in both of the couple’s stories. There was some humor, also, as Emma had a beagle who got into lots of trouble!

  • FUN SWEET ROMANCE

Even as beloved and familiar characters pop in to say hello, the characters you will meet on the pages of A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn will also quickly become favorite friends. Amish fiction fans and non-fans alike will be captivated by this warm and charming story of second chances and independence. The series’ theme of trusting God with your life’s path rings true in this book as much as the others, and Gray’s trademark exquisite writing style hooks you instantly and keeps you engaged all along the way.

  • EVERYTIME I READ THIS SERIES, I FEEL LIKE I AM COMING HOME AGAIN!

I was so excited to get this book that I immediately sat down and began reading it. Pinecraft, Florida is definitely on my Bucket List, because each time I read one of Shelley Shepard Gray’s novels using that as a setting, it makes me not only want to visit, but possibly live there. The characters she has breathed life into makes you want to see for yourself how hospitable, warm and loving this community of Amish truly is. While the place is real, we know that the characters are just the ones we have fallen in love with from the moment we began our journey in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft Series

A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn is a delightful story brimming with endearing characters, including Frankie, a pesky beagle with a penchant for pizza. While Frankie was busy thieving food, he also managed to steal my heart, as did the rest of the cast of characters. In this ode to The Brady Bunch, Shelley Shepard Gray delivers a heartfelt story that completely charmed me.

  • ‘A WEDDING AT ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’

There is something very good about a book that can draw you into the story in the first chapter. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary that happened, a silly mutt had gotten away leaving it’s family to locate it. But Shelley Shepard Gray with her straight-forward style and the way that she reveals enough about the characters to pique your interest, pulled me right into her new book. The story is universal, despite the unique setting and Amish characters. Although it is Amish fiction, and their religious ways come into play, at the heart the stories are about people and emotions, something that we can all relate to. Gray does a great job developing the characters in the book and the reader is easily pulled in to the story and the characters.

  • ‘A WEDDING AT THE ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’

I enjoyed reading A WEDDING A THE ORANGE BLOSSOM INN and getting to know the cast of characters. There are several different romances in this one book and it was a guess who was getting married! Beverly and Eric who’s been an ongoing romance since the first book, Emma and Jay who were the main, main characters, or Ben and Tricia who are a new young romance.

I enjoyed the dog, but think Emma could’ve solved all her dog problems by investing in a good leash, or even a crate! But Frankie was a dear even if he did love pizza, wedding cake, and pickles. Not necessarily in that order.

I enjoyed this series immensely and can’t wait for the Christmas novella Ms. Gray is releasing this fall. Great story.

  • FALL READS: ‘A WEDDING AT THE ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’

I guess you can say that this is the Amish version of the Brady Bunch as both the main characters are widowers with three children each. I enjoyed reading the first books in the series (The Promise of Palm Grove and The Proposal of Siesta Key) and I wasn’t disappointed with the third installment. Yes, there were a few cliched moments here and there, but nothing that bothered me from enjoying the novel. Overall, Shelly Shepard Gray once again spins her magic with the heartwarming A Wedding at Orange Blossom Inn.

  • BOOK REVIEW | ‘A WEDDING AT THE ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’ BY SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY | BOOK 3 IN THE AMISH BRIDES OF PINECRAFT SERIES

A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn, the third book in Shelley Shepard Gray’s Amish Brides of Pinecraft series is another wonderful story.

As with so many of Shelley’s books, Emma Keim and Jay Hilty are so very real, so very normal… and oh so interesting!

They’ve both lost spouses and with three children each, the most logical solution seems to be getting married.

But it can’t be that easy… It may be fiction but it’s very true to how reality works. Life simply doesn’t work out that easily most of the time.

Things happen to make it difficult… Unforseen circumstances pop up… Even family can make things rough. Not saying anymore. That’s all you get from the synopsis and I will not ruin the story for you. Read it. I’m confident you’ll love it!

If ever someone asks me for a recommendation of an author who pens great Amish fiction, Shelley Shepard Gray is one of the first names that pops up. Each of her stories gives a glimpse into aspects of Amish life that you might not see in other writer’s novels. She’s certainly one to come up with fun characters. In her latest novel, the name Frankie comes to mind as one such character, and he doesn’t even talk unless you count woofs and burps!

  • ‘A WEDDING AT THE ORANGE BLOSSOM INN: AMISH BRIDES OF PINECRAFT’ BOOK THREE (THE PINECRAFT BRIDES) #REVIEW

In A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn we meet two widowed parents who are just starting to open up the possibility to loving again. Through the book they each have to search their hearts and God’s plan to see if the future holds another love for them. They are met with a little bit of opposition but not by their brady bunch like family (each has 3 kids.) Of course we get glimpses of Orange Blossom Inn and our beloved Beverly the Inn Keeper. I’m really looking forward to reading more of her story in the future.

Overall I just love the Pinecraft Brides series. I so want to visit this town in Florida some day. This book was a wonderful read and I’m looking forward to the next!

  • ANOTHER HIT FROM SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY

Another trip to Pinecraft with Shelley Shepard Gray and another hit book. I enjoyed getting to know Emma and following her on her journey from widow to happiness. We also have Jay going through the same things as Emma and go on their “journey” together. It is nice how the author makes the characters so real and loveable all at the same time. There is even a little bit of humor in this book with the pets and their adventures. I wish I could “meet” the characters in this book when I visit Pinecraft next month, but I will be happy with the “real” residents. This is the third book in this series but it can be read as a stand alone but I am sure you will find yourself wanting to go back and read the other two books.

  • FRANKIE THE EVER HUNGRY HOUND

This book starts and ends with a gluttonous hound named Frankie. A pizza loving, wedding cake loving Beagle. He really can’t seem to help himself. Emma is about to get fed up with chasing him down when he is on the hunt for food. However her chase leads her right to the Hilty family, staying at the Orange Blossom Inn. A young widow and a handsome widower, what isn’t to love about this story. We know there is a wedding, and Emma and her girls find themselves right in the middle of the preparations. A great story that will make you laugh and cry. I can’t wait for the next book. I am so ready for more story from Beverly. I was a bit perplexed about Emma’s parents view of her courting again. It just didn’t seem to follow the “Amish” pattern about widows remarrying. 4 stars from this reviewer.

  • This series turned out to be really cozy and I enjoyed the sweet wisdom shared by the characters. Beverly is such a mainstay who has a great presence in the community. And with six children who all enjoy fun games and egging each other on, there are plenty of laughs to be had. Ben, Jay’s eldest, was great to watch as he matured and became a man. Overall, an excellent book that I was sad to see end–especially since Orange Blossom Inn looks to be the end of the series. A definite 5 star!

  • ‘A WEDDING AT THE ORANGE BLOSSOM INN’ {LITFUSE REVIEW}

I have long been in love with Shelley Shepard Gray and her Amish series. This new one all about the lives of the Amish in Pinecraft and the Orange Blossom Inn in particular is amazing! I’ve read the others in this series(this is book three) and A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn is a charming and funny addition to the series. I loved meeting our two families and learning about their background. I also adore Frankie.

Frankie is a beagle with a tendency towards trouble. He has a voracious appetite for pizza and wedding cake(oh yes I said wedding cake). He also is so cute and loveable that no one can be mad at him for long.

You’re going to love meeting Emma and her three young daughters as well as Jay and his three sons(one grown, one teenage, and one young still).

Pinecraft is noted for it’s Amish and Mennonite population — and I’m not Amish or Mennonite — but I really think I’d love living there among the plain people. My family has been adapting our lifestyle for several years, letting go of bits and pieces, hoping to adapt to a plainer life.
